Reviews for Arkadenhotel im Kloster

Review 1:Loved it all!

Review 2:Everything was great, lovely, adorable and charming. The staff was excellent and friendly and gave really great service. The place was simply wonderful! The location is also great!

Review 3:I like large pillows and the beds only had one flat pillow per person.

Review 4:Great location within easy walking distance of the old city, friendly staff, quality updated rooms

Review 5:The bathrooms & shower are really small, This wasn't a problem for me but I could see how it would be for a larger person.

Review 6:Phenomenal staff, especially the staff at breakfast. I was treated like a member of the family by all staff during my 8 day stay. The location is excellent too - walking distance to the tourist information center and the majority of the sightseeing locations. The cleaning staff is fantastic as well.

Review 7:No free parking on premises (paid parking). 10-20min walk to the central attractions, depends on your perspective.

Review 8:Room was very nice, new walk in shower with waterfall head. Good buffet breakfast. Walking distance to old town. Family size rooms.

Review 9:A bit far to walk to the city center and railway station. Need to take a taxi.

Review 10:Luxurious feel within the room and of the place in general. Nice view of a "castle court" from window.

Review 11:The room was very small, but could have been OK for a night or two, if there had been no problems with the hot water in the shower cabin. Water was running all the time - it was very hot and the bathroom was full of steam. We had to close the door to the bathroom to sleep. Even though we told it next morning nothing happened. We told it again in the afternoon and still nothing happened. Next morning when we checked out we told them again and we got the answer, that the knew it but could do nothing !! After we have left we got an e-mail from Booking-com. The hotel had informed that we never arrived and we had to pay the full amount. We then told Booking.Com that we had just checked out an paid all when we left.

Review 12:The breakfast was the very best. Location was wonderful, breakfast super and the staff in the breakfast room were kind.

Review 13:The shower was very hard to use. The water temperature could not be controlled and randomly went from cold to VERY hot. I would not recommend for children.

Review 14:The location, staff, cleanliness and overall feel of this hotel was really good. I felt safe and welcome.

Review 15:Great location (we had business in Nurnberg, which is not that far), beautifull room, clean , good and versatile breakfast, and for an great prize. We were even a bit concerned, since the price was so good, that there wood be a catch, but no, everything was just as promised, and as review by others.

Review 16:Very modestly priced hotel located in a former (???) monastery, only 10 minutes walking from the town center. Super-friendly staff at the reception & no problem with having no breakfast in the hotel (a few cafe's nearby offer varieties of breakfast). Parking at the hotel site costs 12 euro/day and is absolutely worthy.

Review 17:I can't really complain about anything except that the size if the bathroom was very small albeit pristine. We did have difficulty connecting to wifi the first night. The issue was resolved the nextorning when Michael reset the modem. Thanks Michael!

Review 18:First and formost, Michael and Caroline were tremendous with communications and recommendations for our trip to Bamberg. The breakfast buffet was great and I loved that they served Prosecco! The location was close to old town center but not so close as it was extremely quite. The staff were so friendly and charming!

Review 19:Had booked a double room, we had a single room converted into double room, see picture 11 and 12. when I pointed out the discrepancy between booking info and actual room the manager was very rude.

Review 20:Good location, nice breakfast buffet & friendly staff in breakfast area

Review 21:A bit of a walk uphill, but nothing major

Review 22:Really big room which is unusual for Europe, in a very quite location yet still very close to the major attractions

Review 23:A little more attention should be paid to the cleaniness.

Review 24:The hotel is located very close to the main attractions. Breakfast buffet selection was good.

Review 25:The cost for a child's breakfast is a high. My 9yo eats a few pieces of bread and conducts but is charged as an adult.

Review 26:Beautiful hotel- our favorite of the whole trip. Large, well appointed rooms. Incredibly comfortable beds in rooms with lots of natural light.

Review 27:I paied my accomodation on sept.15 and the hotel still owns the amount blocked on my credit card today sept30th...How can a hotel allow itself to block ( temporarly steal) your money for its own business of earning interests?Very bad habit!

Review 28:The hotel is fine but I am giving a bad score due to their policy of blocking other people's money

Review 29:very loud church bells in the morning - but well it actualy is a Kloster than one should be prepared for it :)

Review 30:great localization - 400 meters from the old center of the city, nice comfortable rooms, helpfull personel, great breakfast!

Review 31:Parking is expensive - as advertised. Bathroom lovely and high tech but very small.

Review 32:Rooms modern and clean. Location very good for centre of town and also quiet.

Review 33:Not handy for public transport (2 busses or bus and walk- easier on return). Long walk round to entrance, No apparent facilities. Room hot because at top of hotel. I was expecting luxuryy but it wasn't like a guest house, though they'd give you breakfast. Far too expensive- However nice breakfast was, an extra E19 made stay very expensive.

Review 34:Nice breakfast- but we had to pay extra- E9.50 each. Water in room. Nice quality bedding.

Review 35:No Wi-fi. Parking fee is grossly exessive - in fact, it is a rip-off!!! Bathroom is tiny - need to be a gymnast to use the toilet. No tea in the room.

Review 36:Location. Good breakfast. Comfortable bed. Staff tried hard to address issues.

Review 37:It was 102 degrees on the day we arrived, with no air conditioning oreven a breeze that came into our large window it was uncomfortable.! Iam still working with Booking.com to resolve my double charge. Ioriginal booked a quad room 5 days b 4 arrival w/ an AmericanExpress card. The next I received an email saying I would need to use aMC/Visa. I followed the link and booked again, but this time I hadthe option of booking a triple which is all we needed. The next eveningwhen I was reviewing the hotel again it showed I paid for my originalrequest and the triple. So when I "cancelled" the quad, it nowwas approx 68 hours b 4 check in (72 hour cancellation policy). I wascharged the 85% cancellation fee for the quad. I immediately emailed thehotel and Booking.com. Once at the hotel the manager was not helpful atall saying it was Booking and she that could not change the fees I didnot authorize the quad room with my mc! I am in the process of workingw/ getting the charges reversed. Beware if u have to"rebook"!

Review 38:Breakfast was wonderful and worth the price! The hotel was very clean!

Review 39:The room was sold as suitable for 4 people. If your children are older than 12 or tall/large, they would be very challenged to sleep in 2 on the sofa bed. Excellet to sleep for 3 though. Being a monastery obviously there are church bells right above your head which start ringing at 8 am.

Review 40:The room was in the monastery wing with a view on the internal courtyard, very suggestive. A very nice atmosphere, though with a slightly disjointed feeling as the hotel operates in two buildings, one with reception/administration and a very generous and rich breakfast buffet and whereas the rooms are in the building opposite. Not a big deal, just as a description.

Review 41:Even if very close to Bamberg centre, this hotel is not easy to find at first stage. It's not comfortable to reach the hotel since there are stairs and rise to climb, but this is not a big deal if you don't mind walking. The only point I was a bit disappointed is that I've accidentally spotted my sheet but they haven't changed it even if we had to spend 2 more nights there. Moreover, they haven't cleaned up our room on our last day. By the way, the hotel and the room is clean and this Hotel has been a good choice.

Review 42:The hotel is very close to the centre. Very clean, silent at night and comfortable.

Review 43:The only thing that could have been better is if there had been a fan in the room. There was no AC and it was very hot.

Review 44:Helpful staff and lovely facility. The location was convenient and quiet.Very nice breakfast as well.

Review 45:Having to pay extra for parking!

Review 46:Good sized room in a historic building. The walk to the town is steep, but this was okay for us. Great breakfast. Best wi-fi I've ever experienced in a hotel.

Review 47:It was extremely hot weather and unfortunately there is no airconditioning in the room.

Review 48:Perfect location in a walking distance from the old town, very generous breakfast - with proseco. Very frendly and helpful staff.

Review 49:It was more like a youth hostel than a hotel.Very loud ,tiny bathroom and situated at the top of a hill.No air conditioning

Review 50:The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.Breakfast was excellent.

Review 51:Need to walk a bit uphill from the town centre to the hotel. Room was hot with no electric fans available.(early July)

Review 52:Great breakfast with high quality delicious choices, breakfast hall is grand. Convenient on site parking.

Review 53:It was a bit difficult to find the hotel in the evening it is better to take a taxi from the train station.

Review 54:Historic environment without a nice garden and well decorated spacious rooms, very well presented breakfast.

Review 55:There was no a/c in our room, which, given the fact that it was >90 degrees Fahrenheit outside, was a big problem. Maybe that was just the room we were in, I don't know. Also, a minor annoyance was that we were required to buy breakfast (about 10 euro each, and there were 3 of us) as part of our room. This was not stated in the terms, and though we probably would have bought it anyway, it just seemed like a backdoor way to increase our room rate by 30%.

Review 56:Room was well equipped (except for no a/c) and clean, staff was very friendly and helpful, location was great, fast and free Internet was included. We were also very generously given a late checkout, which was solid.

Review 57:We were told that we had booked breakfast upon checking out when we noticed a breakfast fee on our bill, which my husband and I said we had not booked, and we had purpusefully not eaten the daily 9 euro per person breakfast because when we asked at check in if breakfast was included in the room we had been told no, that it was an additional charge. So we didn't eat it in the hotel because it was a pretty simple German cold cuts menu anyway. But, we were then charged it for our whole stay, and told we could not be refunded since "we booked it" which we didn't. Not a huge amount of money, but very poor customer service.

Review 58:If you don't want breakfast, stress so when you register as they will charge you extra (without telling you)

Review 59:Location; setting; history; spacious room; parking next door (extra charge - but street parking at the door is free overnight, so if you get a space tell reception that too so you don't get charged)

Review 60:We were two friends sharing and so wished to have two keys to the room, as we didn't spend the whole time together. We were told there was only one key, so asked if we could leave it at reception during the day. We were told (by the owner!) that we could, as long as we were back by 11pm as the night porter would be there until that time that evening. When we arrived at 10.45pm we found we were locked out and had to sleep on the floor of my friend's daughter's room in the university. When we saw the owner she was very rude and unapologetic, but finally agreed not to charge us for that night as long as we told booking.com all was OK!

Review 61:The shower was very nice and modern, the room clean and not cramped, the bed (but not the pillows) comfortable.

Review 62:When we arrive I asked if I could park the car in the parking lot. The friendly guy just said "Yes, sure". He didn't mention the price. He also said that breakfast was included in our booking... and again forgot to mention the extra price. That was very disappointing.

Review 63:Generally a beautiful old building, we had very nice rooms and enjoyed our stay.

Review 64:Parking barrier didn't open correctly and closed almost on top of previous car. Shower recess very cramped without soap tray.

Review 65:Breakfast provision and service was excellent.

Review 66:Could be a problem with a wheel chair and also with parking. The Hotel car park is small and charges €12 a night. There is plenty of parking which is free but you will have to walk a bit. Do not let this put you off a great place to stay, we wished we could have stayed an extra night.

Review 67:This hotel more than exceeded our expectations and is excellent value for the money. A down hill walk to a great town centre with wonderful buildings to view and plenty of places to eat. The breakfast was the best we have had so far on our three week trip around Poland and Germany.

Review 68:Room was really small. I am sure, this wasn't double room, as we booked. So, rooms at third floor, with windows at the street, are not good: small and noisy. Be carefull with open windows at 8 o'clock at the morning: the "alarm bell" can shock you! Closed windows can help a little.

Review 69:Easy check-in , friendly staff, own parking, very good breakfast.

Review 70:Parking was awkward and expensive.

Review 71:Small but modern and comfortable room (much smaller than shown in the booking.com pictures), friendly staff, 10 minutes walk from all major sites/ restaurant areas

Review 72:The only small downside would be the parking space which costs 12,- eur in the hotel parking. But should you find a parking space in the street after 6 o'clock in the evening, parking is free for the rest of the night.

Review 73:We were a group of three friends and we've occupied a room at Arkadenhotel im Kloster. The hotel is really close to the center of the town and to the different attractions of the city like Michaelsberg. The staff was really welcoming and friendly. The room was clean and we've had the most comfortable beds :) We had the wonderful view of a bridge decorated with pots of blooming flowers. The breakfast was delicious with home-made pastry and Prosecco. My friends and I had a very pleasant stay at the hotel. We would definitely come back and I warm-heartedly recommend it to anyone visiting the city of Bamberg.

Review 74:Bamberg is not really flat so elder people may find difficult to go from car with bags to their room

Review 75:Very nice stay with a great breakfast and clean room. Professional staff and good instalations

Review 76:Heating pipes were loud all night long regardless of the fact the heating was on or off. My wife couldn't sleep...

Review 77:clean, quiet hotel, good breakfast, comfortable bed

Review 78:Room lacked basic furnishings, bathroom was tiny compared to the room itself. Bathroom fan continued for hours after being switched off. Woke up at 6am due to no blackouts on curtains.

Review 79:Location and breakfast. Although breakfast was good, it lacked variation.

Review 80:Not much English is spoken or understood. Parking is 10 Euro which is ridiculous, and the free parking is very limited. Have to pay for breakfast whether you eat breakfast or not.

Review 81:We received an email 2 days before our reservation date stating that we were required to purchase breakfast for each member of our family at 8 euros per person. And if we did not purchase breakfast we would not be allowed to stay at the hotel. Needless to say, we did not purchase breakfast and we did stay, but it was a very uncomfortable conversation with the front desk staff. For that reason I would not recommend this hotel.

Review 82:Good location

Review 83:This time my room was right next to the staircase doors and the elevator and the reception. What made it worse was the fact that the bathroom smelled like sewage and there were bugs all over the room. I notified the management, but the smell in the bathroom was not eliminated at all, neither were the dead bugs all over the bathroom. I'm not happy with the fact that when staying at this hotel, that the guest HAS to eat there. The cold cuts, milk and other dairy products are not cooled while sitting out on the buffet.

Review 84:I love this hotel for its location and have been here many, many times.

Review 85:The hotel put a price on booking.com without breakfast, but dismissed the booking without breakfast, saying that the book is impossible without breakfast. The hotel asked more money, than it was in my booking. The hotel informed booking.com about "noshow" - it was the lie.

Review 86:Location, room, breakfast. Good staff except the receptionist.

Review 87:the location of the hotel.there are many ups and downs n bamberg.so this hotel stands on the hill,so you must every time walk up and down the hill.

Review 88:the room was big and comfortable.the breakfast was good.Mrs.Beck was super.calm, always smiling, polite, helpful.internet was good.

Review 89:The wifi password must be asked for at the "front" desk, which is fine but we didn't realize until we got to the room and found no info. We ordered a double room for 4 guests, and they pushed two cot-type beds together at the foot of the bed between the tv. This was fine, but based on the listing, we did not know it would be like this.

Review 90:The breakfast was wonderful. It was under 10 euro and had a wonderful German breakfast consisting of meats, cheeses, yogurts with toppings, breads and jams, mimosas, coffee and tea. We loved it. The hotel was a great value for the money compared to the surrounding hotels and we would stay here again.

Review 91:I was contacted by the hotel in advance and I was told that booking without breakfast (8.95 euro in addition) is not possible and they advised me to cancel the booking if I didn't want to take it (there was nothing on booking.com about this policy). I don't think this is the nice way to offer additional services. The breakfast was really good, though.

Review 92:Great location; friendly staff; nice breakfast; parking available

Review 93:The wifi was not working at times. There was a funny smell in the room, probably because of a recent wall painting.

Review 94:I liked the location, the price and quality of the service overall.

Review 95:- a bit expensive for it's location. I expected this hotel to be cheaper. - you need to walk uphill to the hotel from town

Review 96:- a walking distance from the old part of town. - very clean rooms - large and tasty breakfast

Review 97:Staff needs to be more helpfull, trying at least to give some tips to guests about parking if you forgot to reserve with the hotel. So, do reserve your parking.

Review 98:Location, just outside city center but in a short distance walking. Very nice breakfast

Review 99:Excellent breakfast, really helpful staff at breakfast. Short walk to great brewery area. A few religious motifs, but you'd expect that if staying in a converted cloister.

Review 100:We always travel with our dog. We never paid for him as much as in this hotel. 45€ for 3 nights! he doesn't cost the hotel anything! he does not shower, nor use the sink, nor towels, no bedding (he sleeps on his own blanket). This was disappointing for us. Another flaw: when in the shower, there is no place to put your shampoo, etc. on.

Review 101:weather was abysmal but that was not hotel's fault Parking not free, availability limited and could be expensive

Review 102:Staff very helpful Gave good advice Location good relative to old town Excellent shower, one of the best Very nice breakfast buffet

Review 103:Exceeded our expectations. The cost was far less than we would have expected for a hotel in this class and location. Good parking. Easy walk to Christmas markets in old town

Review 104:quite noisy: not only that the soundproofing is a bit on the limit, but some customers have been making noise till after midnight and again at 6 am in the moring...

Review 105:Location was OK, pricing was an advantage as well as a disadvantage as it was attracting 'noisy people'

Review 106:slightly spartaneous inside of the Hotel, a bath room with more space would be a plus

Review 107:Location Close to the old town, nice staff, great breakfast venue, and wonderful buffet. Great value for money

Review 108:Some of the staff members were not friendly and inviting during the check-in. We booked a room for a family with 4 beds, however got the 1 king size and 1 sofa, which was very uncomfortable. The bathroom very small – even hard to open the door inside and go in

Review 109:Location was very good! Nice atmosphere, good breakfast, nicely cleaned room.

Review 110:Mix of elevators, stairs & multiple bldgs make navigation difficult for people w mobility issues. Deliveries & AM street noise made sleeping after 6 hard. There is a charge for parking & not enough spots.

Review 111:Hotel is walking distance from restaurants, churches & landmarks in beautiful Bamberg. Public areas are attractive. Breakfast was great w eggs, lox, fruit, breads, cold cuts etc. Staff = friendly, helpful.

Review 112:The room was small. Compared to other locations the room price was expensive. Your internet location should alert older people that the hotel is on a steep incline. Your parking facility should be included in the room price.

Review 113:the room was clean and the beds were comfortable. the location was nice although it was cumbersome to find.

Review 114:I guess this is a half complaint / compliment. The "optional" breakfast was not optional when I booked the room. -- BUT -- it was a breakfast buffet with an expansive selection that included a variety of delicious and high quality food. Breakfast left me feeling very satisfied.

Review 115:The room was fantastic, and the location is in a quiet area, but is still walkable to the city center / main sights / river area.

Review 116:Walkability to local attractions Spacious and clean room Hospitality Fantastic breakfast which 6 year old daughter dubbed "best breakfast ever"

Review 117:Finding a parking spot near the hotel to check in was a challenge. Staff gave the wrong room due to some computer mixup, and took a while to get the right one.

Review 118:Room was spacious enough, especially the four-person room for my friends (three adults and a baby). Location is close enough to walk into the old town to see a large percentage of the sites of Rothenburg

Review 119:Difficult to drive around Bamberg got lost a few time finding the hotel - should ask for a map

Review 120:Easy to use facilities - self service drinks, clean bathroom and bedrooms, friendly atmosphere, good breakfast. Staff was very helpful - we needed laundry done

Review 121:Found and booked the hotel on my iPhone whilst travelling (don't worry, I wasn't driving at the time!). I didn't expect it to be utterly fabulous...but it was. So tranquil, comfortable and quiet. Fabulous breakfast!

Review 122:Lack of any basic, expected items for a hotel of this price. The roomhad no phone, no safe, no refrigerator or coffee/tea maker, notoiletries (except a small bottle of hair/body wash)--little betterthan a bare room with bed, 2 chairs and a desk.

Review 123:Convenient parking (10 euros), clean, satisfactory breakfast (8.5 euros)

Review 124:There was no wifi during the whole stay. The staff claimed it was due to some breakdown but given that we also couldn't find any caffee or restaurant in the city that would offer free wifi, it was a problem. Despite hanging a "do not disturb" sign on the door and leaving our towels on the rails (to indicate that we don't want them changed), our room was tidied in our absence and the towels changed anyway. The biggest disappointment was that we forgot a laptop cable in the room. We tried contacting the hotel for several days but didn't even get a response whether the cable was found at all. Also, one day we called there wasn't even an English-speaking reception staff member we could talk to.

Review 125:The location is perfect for exploring the beautiful city of Bamberg. The breakfast was ok and everything seemed clean.

Review 126:To find entrance took so much time. Signalization was bad.

Review 127:We had proble in hotel, because of that they sent us to the city centre apartment. Everything was very good. Breakfast was OK, big choises. Personel was helpful. Espacially Murat and Fatma...

Review 128:Extortion: a day before arrival we got demand to pay breakfast or to cancel reservation. Cancellation was impossible that time, so this was simple deception. Rooms were different looking than in picture. Curtains do not give protection from light. Too hot with no aircondition. In whole overprized hotel.

Review 129:Beautiful house.

Review 130:It was very hot while there and no A/C or even a fan. Just a ceiling fan would have helped.

Review 131:Reasonable location, very atmospheric (in part of a still functioning monastery). Room was quite large. Breakfast OK.

Review 132:Our room (quadruple room) was basically without window. There was a very high ceiling and about 3 meters above was narrow window. Room was very hot and no air condition, now fan and not possible open window. Probably it was only room without window.

Review 133:Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Clean and comfort.

Review 134:It is up quite a steep hill though there is public transport if required.

Review 135:A central location within an easy walk to the town center. The room was very large, spacious with a comfortable bed and clean bathroom. The staff were helpful and friendly. Good breakfast. Great views and lovely outside area. Free Wi Fi was useful.

Review 136:Walls were very thin. Easy to hear neighbors and hallway

Review 137:We liked the location and price

Review 138:Breakfast was brilliant. There was a coffee machine in the room, candies on the pillows:)

Review 139:Pillows! Need a little more support

Review 140:Great renovations, and terrific position to walk around old town

The Fine Print
