Reviews for Carat Vitalhotel Monschau Eifel

Review 1:No tables available during breakfast whereas 1/3 of the dining room was not used. Having to wait 10 minutes for eggs and coffee to be refilled in a buffet shows lack of organization. Still water was not available during breakfast so when asked for a small bottle, we were charged 2.5 €.

Review 2:Nice and clean location close to Monschau city centre, good breakfast, good price/quality range. Staff at reception was very friendly

Review 3:In the bathroom it was smelling like a public WC. There was a brown stain under the toilet. The staff was OK, but when we said about the smell in the bathroom they only shrugged the shoulders. The location is near the bus station, close to the town, but not into the town.

Review 4:The room was big and comfy. The breakfast is diverse, a lot of food to choose from.

Review 5:Dirty carpets, sauna not working, no slippers/bath robes available. Bathroom not clean, odd smell. The buffet is not refilled as it should. If you come around 20h00, you will have to deal with the left overs. Not enough tables for 2 in the restaurant. Odd setup of tables, waiters and people keep bumping into each other.

Review 6:It's within walking distance of Monschau centre. Quiet at night. Friendly staff. Food is good (if you are in time)

Review 7:Not a 4-star, rather a 2-star hotel. Sauna did not work, not a spa hotel for sure. The pool is small. The room was extremely small, barely sqeezed in 3 beds for 4 people.

Review 8:Monschau:)

Review 9:We were travelling with 3,5 months old child. The waiter in the restaurant was so kind and helpful and reserved a special table for us for breakfast. Hearty breakfast and dinner. very good location, 5 min walk from Monschau center

Review 10:Some of the staff was not so friendly, specialy the older blond lady in the restaurant. She was maybe wright but she can better approach the guests with a different, nicer, tone.

Review 11:Location, near to the centrum but quiet, atmosphere, super breakfast. Very good hotel we want to go back there.

Review 12:Limited opening hours for the sauna. Restricted use of swimming pool due to local issue Long wait to order a drink at the bar, no apology from barkeeper on his eventual return. Lack of tea &coffee facilities in rooms.

Review 13:Good sized rooms, Decent breakfast Very helpful reception staff

Review 14:Wifi is NOT available in all guestrooms. We had to go to the lobby for proper connectivity. The saina was cold when we tried to use it at 20:00. Hotel staff was nit cooperative solving these issues.

Review 15:This hotel is clise to the centre of Monschau so one doesn't have to drive to explore the very nice and cost centre. The rooms of this hotel are very comfortable and clean. Beds are okay and the bathroom is perfect for younger people but maybe difficult for older guests. Breakfast was excellent. The swimmingpool was nice and clean

Review 16:We had two rooms on the ground floor almost next to the lift. We asked for quieter rooms, but they were not. On Saturday night a group of six 7-9 year old boys were allowed to play tag in the reception area and in the corridor..we complained and the reception staff tried to sort it out.. We also had a very bad 'toilet' smell in one of the rooms, which seemed to come from under the floor, on and off.

Review 17:We have stayed in this hotel before and were happy to be able to book it this time. We liked the pool and the choice of food at breakfast, we also had our evening meal at the hotel. Some reviews suggested you had to go early to be able to get the food - it was a buffet - we went early but actually the food was continuously replenished. The dining room was also pleasant.

Review 18:No complaints

Review 19:Very nice hotel, very good facilities. A very short walk into Monschau. Hotel is clean and tidy, whilst we stayed it was buffet for breakfast and evening meal which gave you a good choice, All good

Review 20:The bathroom in out room needed some renovation, the room however was clean.

Review 21:The town is amazing and just a short drive to the National Park, the Concert in the Castle was wonderful. There was a wide selection of foods for breakfast.

Review 22:Pillows too soft and small. parking needed to have a drop off area before car taken to public car park

Review 23:breakfast and overall excellent value. Pool and sauna.

Review 24:Parkingplace of the hotel was open for everybody which meant we had to park somewhere in along the road.

Review 25:Easy to reach location just outside the village. Comfortable room, good breakfast.

Review 26:I slept at 403 and there you have a constant deep humming sound of the swimming pool (one floor up) pumps (or the airco). This should not be the case in 4 star hotel

Review 27:Breakfast

Review 28:We ate in the restaurant on a Sunday night and after starter and main course, we tried to order a dessert at around 9.15 but were advised that the kitchen was now closed and we could not have a dessert. During the course of our meal, we should have been asked if we wanted a dessert as the kitchen would be closing. We only wanted ice creams but were advised that it was not possible. This was very disappointing.

Review 29:Swimming pool

Review 30:There is nothing I didn't like.

Review 31:Great hotel near the beautiful town center. The room was neat, large and cosy. The hotel was luxurious and offered a lot of great facilities. The breakfast was marvelous.

Review 32:Evening buffet is open from 18:00-21:00, but as of 20:00 you may end up with empty plates... No special atmosphere in this very large and functional hotel, but we knew this before (as we have stayed there for the 3rd time, to visit Monschau, the forests and the hotel sauna)

Review 33:Nice indoor swimming pool and sauna, decent breakfast, and good dinner buffet (but don't turn up after 20:00 as much will be eaten by then...). Correct rooms with functional furniture. Friendly staff at reception. Good value for money.

Review 34:Private parking was blocked in 3! places with cars on 2 slots. I was told in the reception that these cars were photographed- I hope they were fined as well.

Review 35:Location, swimming pool, dinner and breakfast. Very nice and polite waiters/waitresses.

Review 36:kitchen closes at 9PM everything in town was closed at 9PM for dinner stars are subjective, was in spain 4 days earlier and a 2 star matched this 4 star no minibar (in room 420)

Review 37:vip parking for our 2 oldtimers in front of the door american hamburger chain was only 45 lm away :-) extensive breakfast buffet free wifi

Review 38:THERE WAS NOTHING NOT TO LIKE !!!!

Review 39:EVERYTHING!!!! GREAT LOCATION,ROOM, FOOD & STAFF. HAVE STAYED HERE B4 & ENJOYED IT, SO WE RETURNED AGAIN. HAVE ALREADY RECOMMENDED IT 2 OUR FAMILY & FRIENDS.

Review 40:Breakfast might be a problem, be in time to have a table and struggle a bit to help yourself at the buffet. Elevators work in a strange way, but they work. Parking: you have to pay for it, but it is not expensive

Review 41:This is a nice hotel, very closely located to the old little centre of the city and with nice rooms and swimming pool annex sauna. Wifi did not work correctly in the room, staff was helpful and tried to help in the best possible way.

Review 42:Nothing really, pretty good on the whole. Breakfast spread was a little disappointing - looked to be a lot of food but not much choice. Ask for a room away from the lift - I was right next to it and it was noisy.

Review 43:On site parking - not easy to find in Monschau. Easy walk to town centre, just 5-10 minutes. No-hassle good Wi-Fi (despite the red herring of a notice in the room saying to connect with a cable.) Delicious potato soup in the bar. Overall very good value.

Review 44:Lady at reception could not advise on what to do in Monschau, said there is only hiking and cycling routes and that is all to do there. Thereby we almost missed the un-describable charm and beauty of this lovely town with all its quint little shops and the market with the sand sculptures and handcraft! Unfortunately the bathroom floor smelled of urine, not washed properly.

Review 45:Buffet and breakfast very good! Hotel is well situated. Young bartender was very knowledgeable about what to do and see in Monschau and surroundings, speaks perfect English as well.

Review 46:Bed pillow cases were not clean and had been used could smell sweat on them .the bathroom fluorescent light starter was faulty so it could not be switched on as it stroped

Review 47:Food buffet was vey good also the breakfast

Review 48:The restaurant and food are fit for purpose but not as good as you might hope for in a hotel such as this. I'd stay again but I'd only do B&B, not half board.

Review 49:Hotel staff and facilities were everything you would expect from a good hotel. Lovely people and very helpful. Room was comfortable, modern and clean with comfortable beds.

Review 50:Nothing!

Review 51:Rooms large, clean, and comfy. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast immense. 2 minutes walk from a delightfully picture postcard town.

Review 52:The hotel is still acting if it,s the 70th. Monschau has a lot of buildings/hotels/shops closed/for sale. It's outdated.

Review 53:The surroundings/area

Review 54:Only one lift can get busy

Review 55:A very pretty building (not the normal boring hotel building!). A great location in Monschau, and also for travelling around the region........Don't forget to check out Aachen (Especially Cafe Nobis).

Review 56:The room wasn't fit before 3h20 pm ! The sauna was defect ! No rice and pasta in the evening buffet !

Review 57:Swimming pool ! Breakfast !

Review 58:lot of people (hotel with many rooms)

Review 59:The swimming pool the breakfast

Review 60:Location at walking distance to the town Parking facility Swimming pool

Review 61:- very limited TV channels .

Review 62:-nice pool - excellent breakfast - room just ok .

Review 63:Nothing

Review 64:Excellent location near the centre of town. Did not get charged for car parking which was a bonus.

Review 65:I think the menu could have a more of a variety. Tea and coffe in room

Review 66:Location of the place was amazing

Review 67:Great sauna, excellent breakfast

Review 68:I did not like the pool.

Review 69:Very friendly and helpful staff. Well located hotel that serves an excellent breakfast. I would thoroughly recommend it.

Review 70:Room was of 3 star standard. Clean but not 4 star.

Review 71:Good location with parking 5 minutes walk to the town centre.

Review 72:Buffet meals good but a little tepid later in the evening.

Review 73:Excellent bar service with fair prices and friendly staff.

Review 74:Good location within walking distance of town centre. Good evening buffet great value. Very good breakfast included in price.

Review 75:No Roses in the room... they are only in the hotel photos...

Review 76:Facilities, Swimming pool & Sauna, Very good Free Internet

Review 77:Location, Staff, Room

Review 78:just wonderful

Review 79:Great all round. Breakfast choice superb.

Review 80:Pillows,just too flat and no extras available when asked!!!!!!!

Review 81:Lovely stop over Hotel for us,ticked all the boxes. Wonderful breakfast.

Review 82:No tea or coffee making facilities in the room, had to wait for breakfast for a drink.

Review 83:We had trouble with the car, the staff were very helpful in recommending a garage, and arranging for the car to be looked at, as my husband and I speak only a small amount of German. It was also nice to be able to have a swim and sauna, very relaxing.

Review 84:The pool is rather small. No free parking. No shampoo or conditioner, just one type of soap in dispenser. No fresh juice and not much fresh fruit for breakfast.

Review 85:This is not a 4 star hotel, staff was unfriendly, the checkin took over 30 min with the hotel empty, the facade was being renovated so the view from the room was blocked, air conditioning was not working well, on sunday breakfast was until 10:00, at 9:45 they were vacuuing the room - not the best way to start a relaxing sunday... There were no towels available in the indoor pool. They accept dogs in the hotel, and i love dogs, but now when they are fighting outside my room at night.. For the price go for another hotel.

Review 86:hotel was clean Do

Review 87:Front of the hotel covered with scaffolding and sheeting obscuring views from the room. We were moved to a room at the rear of the hotel on the 4th floor but this was close to hill meaning that we were required to leave the room lights on at all times

Review 88:The assigned room (4th floor) at the back had a view to a blind wall barely making light in the room. Its a bit run down with outdated facilities which for a 4star accomodation i find a bit on the bad side. Parking on premise is 7 euro which is not mentioned at check in, wifi only available in lobby / restaurant .

Review 89:Breakfast is good, so is location.

Review 90:No coffee/Tea facility in the room. The pillows are not good and its flat as a sheet!.

Review 91:location is perfect!.. to park the car and walk into the town!.

Review 92:What a great place to stay. The breakfast is just amazing and we loved the pool facilities. We will be sure to go back someday! Friendly, helpful staff! Thanks.

Review 93:Room is dark, old and definitely need a renovation!

Review 94:Location is great, a little outside of old town, within 10 min walking takes you to small little beautiful town. The swimming pool is clean and nice, breakfast has lots of choices and wifi is fast and stable. Outside are has kids playground and beer terrace. Very nice and will definitely stay again!

Review 95:- parking quickly full the possibilities to park outside is possible but take care of time

Review 96:- friendly service - a few minutes walk to the old city - very good beds - very varied and good breakfast - good restaurant for a fair price - clean - close to Aachen and other cities - regional information - swimming pool - friendly cooperating night porter if you feel the need to smoke a cigarette very late outside

Review 97:Very average room, needs a refurbishment Some poor facilities eg skittles room not in operation

Review 98:Good buffet in evening at good value for family Great location Great helpful lady on reception

Review 99:No tea / coffee making facilities in the rooms - I expected this facility with the hotel being rated 4 star. bathroom was a little tired and needs a tidy up.

Review 100:friendly and welcoming staff, great location for a simple walk into Monschau town. Breakfast was very good. Very big sauna. Swimming pool was ideal.

Review 101:The hotel is a bit old, it needs some renovation

Review 102:Staff is very friendly and helpful and the location of the hotel is great. Very nice atmosphere during the evening in the hotel's bar.

Review 103:Hotel reseptionist was a bit lazy - we had children and they wanted to go to sleep but bringing an extra bed took several hours.

Review 104:It had a proper sauna and a swimming pool although hotel closed them quite early. It has a good breakfast.

Review 105:Staff were not particularly friendly or competent. No proper restaurant, other than fixed buffet and bar service not good. Facilities poor beyond room.

Review 106:It was very well priced and positioned. Room clean and comfortable. Adequate for one night.

Review 107:Room is just standard, clean and good bed but not great. Carpet needs a good cleaning though. Diner buffet closes at 21:00!

Review 108:Great location just 5 min walk from lovely center of Monschau. Parking space available (if not full). Good swimming pool and sauna facilities. Great breakfast and diner. Nice bar for the evening. Friendly personnel.

Review 109:Our biggest complaint would be the pillows and comforters. The pillows were small/flat and the comforters were small as well. It also would have been nice to have towels in the pool/spa area.

Review 110:The hotel was lovely. We really enjoyed the location (5-10 minute walk to the town). The staff were really friendly and helpful. The pool & Spa area was a nice bonus. The breakfast was amazing - a true German feast! Good overall experience...would highly recommend for a 1-2 night stay.

Review 111:Dirty walls and carpets in the rooms. Smelly corridors.

Review 112:Spacious rooms, Big parking lot (when parking can be a problem at Monschau), Bar open till late.

Review 113:You have to fight for the lift as there is only one.

Review 114:We returned having had a pleasant experience a few months before. Fantastic location, excellent staff, pretty village and ohhh what a breakfast!!

Review 115:In the first room the window could not be shut properly; there was nospare room, they told us,but after a second try with another member ofthe staff, we were given another room; the pillows were very poor (flatpancakes): again we were told there were no pillows left since the hotelwas full (come on??); next day we got two additional pillows however. The watertap in the batthroom had to be hammered on to turn it or toopen or close it; four star hotel is a bit exaggerated

Review 116:Location was excellent; beds were comfortable;breakfast was good, but wewould have liked freshly cut fruit;wifi was ok; good price/quality

Review 117:Parking inside always full but we always get out side road free parking ,but still comfort

Review 118:Its a great hotel I always stay there since years ,always fantastic price great value for small money, Break Fast is Great, free wifi

Review 119:Over priced for what is now a very dated hotel!! Rooms small with no proper lighting. No kettle, coffee or tea making facility in the room. In our sons room the shower controls were hanging off the wall. Would not stay there again!

Review 120:Excellent location in Monschau. Pool and sauna ok. Bar and restaurant good. Breakfast excellent choices of hot or cold foods. Staff helpful and pleasant.

Review 121:Upon arrival the reception was unmanned but there was bell to ring for attention. When we rang the bell the only visible staff were the bar staff who just looked at us but took no action so after about 4-5 minutes wait we had to ring the bell again which did result in a staff member arriving to check us in which was very quick and efficient (possibly due to the fact we were the last guests left with a reservation). No tea or coffee making facilities in the room. No free Wi-Fi (even the big hotel chains have started to realise that this is important) which although I knew this at the time of booking didn't matter for 1 night but would have made me book elsewhere if staying for longer.

Review 122:We arrived just after 5pm and easily found a parking space in the car park. Our room was on the 4th floor at the front of the hotel with a window that fully opened which gave us a view over the car park and the woodland on the flanks of the valley over the road. The road has very little traffic as it terminates a short distance past the hotel making this a quiet location, in fact the noisiest thing was the small waterfall in the stream that runs past the front of the hotel. The room was nothing special but was reasonably sized and clean which was exactly what we required for a one night stay. Other than the room the only facilities that we used were reception (check in/out) and the breakfast room which despite many of the tables being reserved for what I assume was a coach party was large enough to accommodate everybody. Breakfast was fairly standard for Germany with a good selection of cereals, fruit, cold meats, cheeses, pastries, bread, bacon, egg, sausages, juices and hot drinks. The walk into the centre of town is only about 5-10 minutes downhill making the location of this hotel ideal.

Review 123:The breakfast was excellent a great choice of meats, cheese, breads, cereals and fruit and plenty of it. The swimming pool was a very pleasant surprise as it was well proportioned.

Review 124:Our room's bathroom would have appreciated renovation some years ago, and so would we! One of the towels was dirty and clearly used before. Otherwise the bathroom was clean.

Review 125:Swimmingpool and sauna were really nice and relaxing, buffet dinner was very rich.

Review 126:The Reception and Bar staff. When we went to check in we knew we were early and told rightly so by the blond haired receptionist. We wanted to continue to ask if we could bring in our luggage and just use the pool and spa facilities whilst we waited for our room. She took a telephone call in the middle of serving us and continued to chat away, then holding her hand over the receiver and telling us "we can go". This really annoyed me. If she didnt answer the phone, which was so rude in any case, she would have dealt with our request and we would have been on our way. When we finally checked in we had to go up and down 5 times in the lift before they programmed our key properly. Not a good start to the vacation. The restaurant staff were excellent but the bar staff were a little edgy too.

Review 127:The all you can eat main restaurant was very good value. There were so many choices of starters, main and dessert for just 19 euros which we thought was good value for money.

Review 128:The private parking was full. (Thankfully, it was possible to park in an adjacent public carpark for the same price.) The food was expensive. The staff were not always able to speak English or Dutch (the languages spoken by me and my partner) leading to misunderstandings. The atmosphere was impersonal.

Review 129:The location is good, walking along the main street will take you straight through Monschau village. The pool is a great perk. Even though we were staying at a busy time, we had the pool to ourselves for an hour.

Review 130:Cost of wifi. Breakfast v.poor, not worth paying more for. Blockbuster movies didn't work in room all week and no help from staff. Not much else to do in the evenings! Bed very hard, pillows so soft non existent. No safe in room.

Review 131:Food in the bar was excellent. Bar staff were very nice. Good location, town beautiful.

Review 132:The hotel does not offer free WiFi. It is 2013 not 2006. This has to be standard in every hotel nowadays. Just include it into the room price and make the rooms €1-5 a night more expensive. Pillows on the bed where too soft. Not the same quality as the beds. Some lights in the hallway went out during the day, probably to save enviroment (money) but there is no natural light in the hallway so its too dark.

Review 133:Breakfast was great. And the rooms where older but well maintained and really clean. Nice walking distance to the city of Monschau. Parking space in front of the hotel.

Review 134:So easy to stay there! Food excellent, gathering places for familygreat. They were helpful (even though our German wasn't great). Easyparking. It was a great choice to stay at this hotel.

Review 135:No towels were provided for use in the pool or sauna. Customers had to use the ones from their room and get them replaced. There was no tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms.

Review 136:Excellent customer service by Ralph in the bar. Breakfast buffet was very nice. Nice pool and sauna.

Review 137:Nothing really, just choose your time for breakfast carefully as it can be crowded.

Review 138:It was a fantastic location with very friedly and efficient staff. The breakfast was also very good.
