Reviews for Mainzer Hof

Review 1:Completely old fashioned, totally not in a nice way. Dark corridors, dark rooms... It really needs an urgent aesthetic renovation.

Review 2:Location (near the river and close enough to downtown). Cleanliness.

Review 3:Entire facility needs updating. Not the best location: it's a solid 8-10-minute walk from the city center, and there is nothing (no bakeries, bars, etc) around it - the hotel is on the edge of the city, somewhat by itself.

Review 4:Hairs stuck on the bathroom walls, a carpet full of huge stains in the corridor... And as I asked for the code for the WiFi I got the answer "it's only for one device! If you want to use a second one, you have to pay extra!" I thought it was a joke, but it wasn't...

Review 5:Free wifi is only for one gadget, and the connection was very bad. The room and furnishing are very old as if you are staying in the last century.

Review 6:Good location, beautiful view of the Rhine river. Good breakfasts

Review 7:The fan in the bathroom was noisy and at about 6 AM a strange noise started, like slow pump. Over time the pump noise got faster and stopped at about 7.15 AM. Not good for sleeping.

Review 8:The room was clean, roomy, had nice furniture and great view of the river Rhine

Review 9:Listing promises free wifi in rooms, but actually you have to pay for any more than one device, which is ridiculously old fashioned. Speaking of which, the whole place is very tired looking and needs a refurb. The "triple room" we booked was actually a double with an extra single bed. The curtains are flimsy and let light in. There's no air-con, but they did provide a fan. The road outside is noisy. Breakfast was poor quality.

Review 10:If you just need a basic room, not too far from the town centre, then it's ok. There's nothing particular to "like" though. The room was a good size.

Review 11:Hotel is worn out. WIFI is free for one device per room only. Breakfast is pitiful for German standards. Very noisy, almost impossible to keep windows open at night (which is very necessary when it's hot because of lack of airco).

Review 12:Location would be excellent if the street wasn't so noisy (traffic, boulevard drunk screaming). Hotel is on the edge of the old and new town. Mainz has a nice atmosphere, probably because of the university.

Review 13:The hotel facilities are very dated and could use a refresh. The beds and chairs were worn and not very comfortable. The area where the hotel is located, while near the Rhine River, mostly residential and there are few close-by restaurants or stores. The hotel is also further from the train station then we thought, making our walk a very long trek.

Review 14:The fellow at the front desk was helpful when we checked in and gave us recommendations for a restaurant and the location of a grocery store.

Review 15:It´s old. Area is noisy and if it´s hot, opening your windows will become a problem. No AC Furniture is very old, didnt care though

Review 16:Good location, big rooms, nice restrooms. You can park at the front of the street (for free) from 9 PM-9 AM, so this is good. If needed there is another parking place, 100 mts ( yards) away but it´s pricer

Review 17:The very un-German punctuality of room availability. We were told our room would be ready for check in @ 3:00 pm. It was 5:30 before we got into it.

Review 18:Location

Review 19:No free WIFI: They make you pay extra if you want it.

Review 20:nice very friendly helpful staff, generally clean, quiet room possible despite very central perfect location.

Review 21:As they have contraction during this period, it's dusty and have cockroach in my room. My room is single room and face to contraction area. Whatever, the staff hard to clean and I still unlucky to find a cockroach on my towel (@.@") ! I think the room face to riverside will be better.

Review 22:Hotel next by river and it's good and relaxing place during evening time.

Review 23:Breakfast could have been better. There is no choice of restaurants nearby.

Review 24:Location close to the river bank at a walking distance from the center and at a reasonable price

Review 25:A bit long in the tooth and undergoing some renovation that can be noisy.

Review 26:Largish room size with lots of light! Great breakfasts and helpful staff! Some fourth floor rooms are equipped with balconies.

Review 27:Internet was spotty and they only provide 1 password, for 1 device. If you have more than 1 device (which most families do), they charge you.

Review 28:The location was very close to the Rhine River, shops, dining and laundry.

Review 29:Bathrooms have a bad odor due to ventillation of plumbing I guess.

Review 30:Hekpful staff who changed my room to a quieter one and repaired shower hose. The breakfast is excellent value with a good variety.

Review 31:Freindly Staff. Neat and tidy little room for 1 person. Very clean. Value for money. Close to the bus stop which will take you to the main Maiz station. Also well situated to the old Mainz City which is a lovely place to walk around.

Review 32:Low quality facilities. There was no Plan B when the lift broke down. Very tired decor. Limited TV stations. Very cramped bathroom. No ironing board.

Review 33:Friendly staff Clean facilities

Review 34:Old hotel with old facilities, including the (tiny) room with a tiny and very old tv (with only 2 non-german speaking channels), and especially the bathroom: does not transmit comfort nor creates the best impression. Noisy (early morning) cleaners. Only 1 free wi-fi code per person: either the phone or the computer. Almost absence of wi-fi in the lobby. No coffee/tea in the room. Lack of a bar/restaurant, place for dinner Sauna is in the middle of the gym so forget the relaxation part.

Review 35:Good and free wi-fi in the room. Sauna (only between 5 and 9 pm) and gym. Friendly staff. Always hot water. Great room view to the river. Good location. Chilled but empty lobby. Enough sockets in the room. Heating working properly.

Review 36:No Hotel Parking. But good and affordable underground Public Parking. WiFi was slow and low reception.

Review 37:Staff is very friendly, Breakfast and nice firm Bed.

Review 38:You have to pay 4 euro a day for the WiFi connection, which is bad but not too bad. However, that's restricted to one device only. If your family members each has a device in use, you will be pissed. By the way, when we arrived the receptionist could not find our booking in their system. Luckily they did have a room available. Might be wise to call before arrival next time.

Review 39:Everything's just fine except the WiFi.

Review 40:Parking was the only hassle we had.

Review 41:We stayed here for our Honeymoon. We requested a certain room through bookings, and the Hotel granted us the room we requested, which was a room with a view. We even got a free bottle of Champagne on ice from the Hotel. Having stayed here before, we knew what to expect. We really enjoyed ourselves.

Review 42:Very bad hygiene. Fungus in the bathroom. Body louse in the bed that wefound the next day after my face and arms were covered with bites. Notall the staff was helpful and kind. Internet not working properly anadyou have to pay for that.

Review 43:Nothing

Review 44:Helpful staff, small but neat gym room, clean rooms and common areas, decent breakfast, WiFi is paid but not expensive and works well. It's a bit further from Hbf than other hotels but it's worth the trip.

Review 45:There was no iron in the room. I would have had to pay for a late check out. I didn't like the two twin beds put together, it has a crease in between the mattresses, but that's common. WIFI could have been free.

Review 46:I requested a room with a view of the river....they made it happen. It was beautiful. The staff was friendly, the breakfast was good too. We didn't pay for wifi because they had a T-mobile Hot spot. The bathroom was spacious. We had a tub and a shower. My wife loved the make up mirrors in the bathroom. We felt like we had privacy. I would stay there again for sure.

Review 47:No sound isolation between the rooms. Lost sleep because of the neighbour's usage of bathroom.

Review 48:Excellent location near the river and very friendly staff.

Review 49:No parking at hotel - had to park car in public parking No free wifi Towels old and worn TV small and old - very limited channels Bathroom small and cramped with cheap shower curtain No power outlets near bed for iPhone/iPads

Review 50:Close to city center and river

Review 51:When man wanna use WiFi, man need to pay it. That was not free of charge.

Review 52:The room is very clean and comfortable. It is wide for 2 people and the preis is valuable for the facalities. Next to the hotel, there are river Rhein. It is near to Mainzer Dom.

Review 53:The staff Mr. Patrick was really nice to my friend and I, we enjoyed our stay there. I will definitely come back again and recommend this hotel to my friends!

Review 54:Unfortunate that my room on the 6th floor was close to lift drive mechanism which I could hear clearly until the early hours. This kept me awake.

Review 55:Very good modern city center hotel with very friendly staff. Great buffer breakfast for only 5 euros.

Review 56:Very noising. You can't sleep with the window open (no a/c).

Review 57:Close to the river, the station and congress center. Great breakfast. Cheap internet connection

Review 58:Internet in lobby didn't work. We didn't know it, but we came inthe side door (looked like main door, but was not the main door facingthe river) and missed all the maps/tourist info on the racks.Probably our fault for not looking around but we were tired.

Review 59:You can walk across the street and onto the river promenade. You canalso easily walk to the center of town (5 to 10 min). Mainz has manypedestrian friendly streets - get a map. Staff was very helpful, spokegood engish. We got a room for 3, extra bed was small but adequate. Paidextra $4 for wifi for 24 hrs, which we didn't mind since even withthat room was a good value. Wifi worked great. Was told refrigerator wasnot working but it worked fine. Had wake up call (not all placed westayed has this in Europe. Close to airport. It was on a busy road, butsoundproof windows made it very quiet in our room. A good place to stayon your first day into frankfurt airport or just before you leave. Weended our trip here, and walked along the river, through town, and tooka drive up the river to Koblenz that last 2 days. It was not the ritzbut was nice, good staff, great location

Review 60:we had booked the hotel on the internet because he admitted animals (we have a small dog dachshund), but when we arrived we were told that it was forbidden to take the dog where there was breakfast, but we could not even leave the dog alone in the room .. . then what should be done? Furthermore, only the day after arrival and when we announced that we would not have had breakfast at the hotel, we were told that the cost for the stay of the dog was 8 euro for day, subject to the prohibitions. Evidently it is not a structure suitable for those who have animals!

Review 61:Smell of smoke in room and also strange smell in bathroom.

Review 62:Nice staff, big room with bath. Pleasant sort of place which would be suitable for an extended stay. Retro 80s decor. Great location by artificial beach on Rhine.

Review 63:traffic noise humidity- no ventilation or fan couldn't sleep due to either traffic noise with window open or suffocation due to lack of air and humidity with window closed (after 2am quiet enough to sleep with window open until about 6.30am)

Review 64:view 10-15 minute walk from train station

Review 65:The pillows are flat, no air conditioning.

Review 66:Location, the view, sunrise, room size, cleanliness, good breakfast, helpful staff, short walk to some of the main attractions.

Review 67:As above.

Review 68:A ten minute walk from the KD pier. Convenient and comfortable room. Little old fashioned but not a disadvantage. However sadly missed kettle in room for tea/coffee making but staff supplied mugs hot water on request.

Review 69:There was no air-conditioning in the room, only a fan. The interior of the room was slighly worn. The wi-fi was not free of charge.

Review 70:Breakfast was good but personnel was somewhat slow to deliver. The reception lady was very helpful e.g. by giving useful restaurant tips. The room was spacious and well lit. The location of the hotel was good and the parking hall was nearby.

Review 71:Great value hotel in Mainz. Not a great tourist spot, but good for a night when traveling through. The staff when we arrived was so-so. The morning staff was excellent.

Review 72:I did not have any dislikes. The hotel is dated in its decor but it was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was an extra 7 euro per person but was good in both its variety and quality.

Review 73:Bad smell in the room(cigarett smell)

Review 74:I liked the view of Reine river from the room.

Review 75:The view from the balcony was fabulous. We loved watching the ships sail by and sun set on the Rhine River!

Review 76:Room buzzing with mosquitos made a good nights sleep impossible.

Review 77:It's quite old and not a very convenient location

Review 78:The room is big. You can borrow hair dryer from them.

Review 79:Comfortable room, great wifi and breakfast

Review 80:Not Clean.

Review 81:Needs renovation

Review 82:reasonable value for money
