Reviews for Hotel Schottenhof
Review 1:Although I was near the main train station, I was not disturbed by any noise which might normally be associated with this location. The cleaning staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast had good variety and the staff at that time was friendly as well.
Review 2:the bed was not very comfortable for me (too soft)
Review 3:The location is perfect, the staff is very kind, the breakfast very good and with a lot of choice (both sweet and salty)
Review 4:The location was perfect for us as we arrived by train with suitcases. Good walking distance to centre of town. Eating and drinking places close to hand.
Review 5:Breakfast was ok, but very simple. Room was clean, but bathroom was very old and toilet didn't work.
Review 6:Location is good and it was easy to find. Nice restaurants nearby.
Review 7:The window curtains were unable to fully block sunlight in the early morning. The hotel is besides a busy traffic road so that car noises could be heard clearly during night. The choices for breakfasts were limited.
Review 8:The location is excellent for people to travel with trains. The family room is old but big enough for four people. Hotel staff were friendly.
Review 9:Bed is a bit soft already and possibly time to change.
Review 10:Have stayed in this hotel 3 years ago and I was happy with the facilities so I booked again. Hotel is very near the train station which is main criteria since I go daily to Frankfurt for the exhibition. Staff are very friendly and helpful, breakfast is adequate and room is next to excellent.
Review 11:noisy (street side window..) small room (single) with tiled floor and old bathroom interior
Review 12:near Haubtbahnhof some nice bars in the area actually good (free) Wifi
Review 13:It would be nicer to have more choices at breakfast, eg like fried or scrambled eggs, or fresh fruit
Review 14:location was great, and the staff were very nice and helpful
Review 15:Rooms were very basic , bathroom was ok even if the shower was small. Paint on the walls flaking extractor fan for kitchen outside bedroom window smelly and noisy. Cleaner had no respect for guests entering the room at 8 and 9 am even when you were not supposed to be checking out until 11.30. Breakfast was poor very little meat or bread very poor. Did not rate this hotel as value for money the worst 300 euro i have ever spent.
Review 16:It was Karneval in town and there were many people in the street singing loudly late at night. I was waken up at 2 o'clock in the morning. I think it is the same every weekend.
Review 17:Location was great. Just right outside of the central station. Very good quality of the free Wifi.
Review 18:The wifi wouldn't connect. The staff were very helpful in trying to solve the problem but it wasn't solved.
Review 19:Close to transportation and a short walk into the city.
Review 20:Lift is too small can't accommodate more than one person, and very old , WiFi works only in lobby , not working in rooms , although published to be included in the room rates . very small lobby area and uncomfortable place to sit .
Review 21:Location was just right , close to public transport and some shopping, new extension of rooms are good , old ones are very poor and old fashion .
Review 22:The lift was too small to fit our cases in. Breakfast was supposed to finish at 10am but when we went there at 9.30, there was almost nothing left and they were pacing up....staff eventually bought some things out but only after we had words with them. Rooms were also not clean. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.
Review 23:The lift is really small, and hard to fit suitcases and a pram in.
Review 24:Enjoyable stay and the family room was a good size. The wifi was a bit slow in our room.
Review 25:The bathroom window was large, untinted, and on the 2nd floor where we were, directly looked out on to the main road. In the morning, you could watch the traffic building up as you sat on the throne. I suppose the drivers in their vehicles could also see you at your business. A little disconcerting.
Review 26:Our scheduled train to Mainz was cancelled, so we arrived very late at night. The gentleman at reception was snoozing, but waiting for us at the desk, bless him! The hotel has an elevator to reach the upper floors. The room was quiet. The bed was a little lumpy, but OK. Continental breakfast was just fine. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 27:There were cockroaches in the bathroom, we told to the recepcionist and did nothing, even got an apology... The breakfast wasn't so good, they didn't have even fruit
Review 28:The location, 15 min walking to the centre
Review 29:Décor just a little dated, elevator teeny.
Review 30:My daughter lives in Mainz. We moved to the Shottenhof when her apartment became too small for our group. The hotel was chosen for it's location. However, it proved to be a nice hotel and we will return. Great for comfort, nice breakfast area, fair price.
Review 31:It had a tile floor but they did not bother to clean it - lots of dust balls. A rather small room. We stayed there one night. Moved to Hotel Hammer right accross from the Bahnhof but actually a very nice hotel.
Review 32:under the beds the dust is in big quantities and the shower handle was broken and the water does not go when you have your shower from the bathroom and the window lock doesn't close and so many things...
Review 33:location is near the railway station.
Review 34:We have a child in a wheelchair and the elevator was TINY. Would not suit an adult in a wheelchair. Very hard to move luggage up and down. Not close to old part of the city.
Review 35:Close to the railway station. Nice tidy room. Free wifi. Great breakfast. Very helpful staff.
Review 36:We made the reservation for non-smoking room. But they could not find our reservation and finally we got the smoking room, so we had difficulty sleeping because of the odor. The room is very dull, has nail on the wall waiting for the picture to be hung. The decoration of the room is ugly. It is very expensive and it is not worth the money.
Review 37:Great location, very close to the train station.
Review 38:everything else!!!!!!! one staff member helped with our heat problem. the others could not be bothered. very bad bed. felt the springs all night. just didn't sleep for two nights. should have left after the first night stay. just the lack of concern for our needs as patrons. totally concerned about petty things. we stayed on our honeymoon in january and liked. this time was a mistake. live and learn. my wife was not too impressed with the bugs in the bathroom. i think they are the permanant guests. why leave.
Review 39:location
Review 40:Somewhat tired furnishings.
Review 41:Proximity to train. Pleasant breakfast offering. Breakfast area is bright with walls of windows facing street. Courteous staff. Large white bathroom. Spacious and very clean room. Nice vibe.
Review 42:We were in the 4th floor and all the 3rd floor is a smoking-permitted area. We open the window because it was very hot, but just under us there was somebody smoking and all the smoke came into our room, so we had to close the window. I thing that the smoking area should be in the upper floor, in the 5th.
Review 43:Very good location, very comfortable and clean room, good breakfast as well.
Review 44:I felt the springs of the bed in my back, so the matress should be changed.
Review 45:The hospitality of the personel, all of them are very nice. The breakfast is good.
Review 46:Empty beer bottles on the terrace were never picked up and bathroom needed some TLC. Sunday evening clerk was more interested in chatting with his friend than helping; he sent me to a restaurant across the street that was closed.
Review 47:The location was really good for train travelers. Nice breakfast buffet.
Review 48:Everything! The breakfast was wonderful!
Review 49:The bed is too soft!
Review 50:The location is quite good!

Review 55:near the train station, restaurants, shopping and laundry facilities
Review 56:Near the train station and Ubahn. Good breakfast
Review 57:Location and staff were very good.
Review 58:Lack of storage - drawers enabling me to fully unpack my suitcase.
Review 59:Location of the hotel to the centre of town and the Hauptbahnhof
Review 60:Needed fans or a/c because it was very hot
Review 61:All was good
Review 62:Very good location and calm atmosphere

Review 66:NICE FRIENDLY STAFF
Review 67:near train station, easy to find.
Review 68:nothing
Review 69:Close to the Mainz train station. It met our need for basic accommodation while traveling through the area by train.
Review 70:The hotel located to crowd noisy traffic area
Review 71:Behaviour of the management was excellent. And the owner was very nice and cooperate .
Review 72:no internet in room, small and old lift, small room
Review 73:staff nice, available to help if needed
Review 74:Staff variably helpful, some rude.
Review 75:Breakfast very good
Review 76:The WIFI signal was so weak that I could not use it in my room. I had to sit in the hotel lobby to connect.
Review 77:Terrible Wifi noisy in the morning
Review 78:Near to the railway station Breakfast included
Review 79:elevator is small, no enough space for kinderwagen.
Review 80:position is ok.
Review 81:hotel is old. small rooms. WiFi unusable
Review 82:location is central, close to main train station
Review 83:Tiny elevator, very slow WiFi.
Review 84:Friendly staff, wonderful breakfast, quiet, close to train station, the river and the Old Town section. Also, we arrived very early and they let us check in to our room at no extra cost.
Review 85:I changed reservation via phone but the staff did not put it in the system correctly, so I had to pay the 5 nights of my previous reservation instead of the 4 nights I really stayed at the hotel, I think this is really poor costumer service!! --> Always request confirmation per mail if you change your reservation via phone
Review 86:The location is very close to the main station
Review 87:Rooms too noisy - lack of double glazing in city centre location, too much noise between rooms Decor not good esp in bathrooms - needs updating Breakfast poor - coffee and tea unpleasant Quite expensive compared with competition
Review 88:Beds comfortable Location excellent Staff friendly and accommodating
Review 89:Poor room, not so clean Bad smell (smoke) in the room. The probably saythat all rooms are non smoking even if they are not
Review 90:Easy to park outside, no charge after 8 pm Nice breakfast
Review 91:The hotel is a bit of a walk from the main town which make shopping abit challenging.
Review 92:It was great that the hotel was so close to the main station in Mainz;it eased dragging our 4 suitcases and 2 kids. The family room offered 2separate rooms with a full bathroom with bath. The size of the roomswere big enough to offer space for suitcases as well. We will stay atthis hotel again.
Review 93:Girl 'managing' breakfast room showed no interest in guests. In particular, some guidance on how the unique egg self-serve process worked would have been helpful (Refers to morning 17/12/13).
Review 94:Location excellent for train travellers. Good value for money. Lovely city to visit, and while there don't miss Wiesbaden across the river.
Review 95:My mother and I went to Germany for the 2013 Christmas markets. Our first 2 days we stayed at the Hotel Schottenhof and visited the Mainz and Frankfurt Christmas Markets. We did not rent a car and relied on trains for our trip. This hotel was perfect for the train station and VERY quiet. We arrived early in the day and although our room wasn't ready they held our luggage for us and let us check in early as soon as a room was ready. Breakfast was included and it was wonderful - very complete and fresh! If ever to return to Mainz, that will be my first choice of accommodations. They even have a small lift so you are not hauling your luggage up the stairs.
Review 96:Wifi was very slow and dropped out. Very convenient to the station, but not quite so convenient to old town.
Review 97:The staff were very helpful. When our quad room turned out to be a triple with a pull out sofa bed, the woman on reception arranged an additional single room. Rooms were clean and as expected for the price range.
Review 98:our first floor room was noisy at night as it was right above the street. request a high floor!
Review 99:The room was clean and spacious, breakfast was great, staff friendly, parking nearby, walking distance to Mainz attractions, a great value!
Review 100:Room was dirty. You could write your name on most surfaces. Floor under the bed hadn't been cleaned in weeks. When we tried to showed the desk clerk, he got very angry and stomped from the room. Not at all professional.
Review 101:Location, 1 block from main train station. Included breakfast was good.
Review 102:Missed having a fridge in the room, but not a big deal.
Review 103:Friendly courteous staff. Great location to the train station. Easy walk to shopping and restaurants.
Review 104:The room was very small and the walls had visible signs of wear. There was a musty smell coming from the toilet that was really annoying. The wireless Internet was so slow that you could not even get your emails.
Review 105:Excellent breakfast. Polite and helpful staff.
Review 106:We only spent one day in Mainz, the Hotel offered everything we needed and I would not hesitate to stay there again. We were close to the city and could explore the city on foot. We parked at the Bahnhof Parking Lot just a few hundred feet away from the hotel on the advice of a very nice meter maid and saved quite a bit of money doing this.
Review 107:When we checked in, the receptionist spoke no English. While I was finewith my broken German, I would not recommend this hotel to one whodoesn't speak any German.
Review 108:The location was fine.
Review 109:the lift was the smallest I have exerienced. Apart from that no negatives
Review 110:the location so close to the train station. Our room was spacious and quiet at night. The city of Mainz was wonderful. We would like to retun.
Review 111:The room was clean and well designed for a single person. The breakfast was terrific. Internet connection good. I would definitely stay again and will recommend wholeheartedly to friends.
Review 112:The breakfast was not so good. Very poor, Only a couple of bread, cheese and ham! The room was small and the bathroom not so clean. The hotel was not that cheap to not have these comfort, so I was dissapointed, However, the location is the best
Review 113:The location is perfect! The staff was very kind
Review 114:The room had a musty smell which was difficult to get rid of. Also, thecleaning leaved a little to be desired. There was an empty packet ofcigarettes under the bed but I do not smoke and had been staying therefor four nights.
Review 115:I found the staff to be very friendly and courteous. Also, the location, directly across from the Hauptbahnhof is ideal for travellers.
Review 116:Room was airless. With window open there was still no air flow. Noa/c, no fan. Very small. Not worth the $100+ a night.
Review 117:Very close to the Mainz Hbf train station. Very close to restaurants andwalking tour sites.
Review 118:My room was very nice but it was a pity that it smelt of nicotine.
Review 119:The staff was very friendly and helpful. The position of the hotel isreally fantastic and the rooms are comfortable.
Review 120:Street noise on the weekend.
Review 121:Close to train station, restaurants, shopping, the Dom, Rhein Promenade. "Old City" within walking distance (for most people). The staff was very friendly.
Review 122:There was no kettle in the room, and the sound insulation was a bitpoor- I was there for work, but during carnival, so other guestscoming back late from partying woke me up. I guess this can'treally be helped though!
Review 123:Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and the room and breakfast were greatfor the price.
Review 124:Good breakfast. Handy location close to railway station.
