Reviews for Altstadt Gästehaus Drewes Wale

Review 1:Very cosy room with comfortable king size bed. Convenient with kitchen unit, tea and coffee supplied. The Hotel is in the old town and very close to the town centre, restaurants and shops. Perfect location for sightseeing and shopping.

Review 2:The lack of staff on site; room not cleaned each day; TV placed on a narrow shelf from which it couldn't be angled to give a clear picture when watching from the bed; kettle but no tea or coffee; cash only but no warning anywhere; overall, lack of attention to details.

Review 3:Nice enough room in an old building on the edge of the centre.

Review 4:Missed wifi and didn't like not being able to pay by VISA/Master Card - all due to lack of online facilities. Not up to standards.

Review 5:Liked the atmosphere despite the absence of a reception - but then again we didn't need i e to find a doctor or a special feature in the town. The room was spacy with kitchen facilities.

Review 6:No real problems. There is no front desk, so there aren't always staff available. That suited us, actually, as we prefer to feel independent -- and it's a (well-organized) guesthouse, not a hotel. One thing to look out for is that the electronic code on the front door (which they sent us by mail a couple of weeks before we arrived) is updated from time to time. The letter with our information included a first code and an update code, but the layout was a bit strange and we didn't notice the update code at first -- but it was there.

Review 7:The guesthouse is an old medieval building and full of charm -- just look out for your head against low beams, and your feet on the sloping floors (i.e. the building really is hundreds of years old). The room was very comfortable and included a small kitchen niche, with a fridge, hob, kettle, and basic cups, plates and cutlery. Good bathroom. Located right beside Lüneburg's historic centre. On the same street as one of the old churches, a stroll (10 minutes?) from the Rathaus... We didn't drive, so cannot comment on the guesthouse parking, but be careful on the very narrow streets -- history again! Didn't sample the breakfast so can't comment, but there are many restaurants, cafes, bakeries, and supermarkets nearby (5 to 10 minutes walk for most of these). Plenty of bedding and towels. Extra tea and coffee, toilet paper, etc available on the upstairs landing. Good facilities. Very good experience and good value, would stay here again.

Review 8:Absolutely beautiful guesthouse, centrally located in/near the Altstadt (old town), walking distance to the numerous churches and inner city. Lovingly restored with wonderful attention-to-detail in the foyer and our room. Spacious double room with antique-looking furniture, comfortable bedding, everything clean with renovated bathroom albeit small in our room (1). We even had a tiny kitchenette/cook niche with a 2-burner stove, a kettle and basic utensils for making a simple meal or self-catering breakfast. Small table with chairs makes this possible. No reception on site but we were sent clear directions with a door code and appropriate directions for the car park, found in the street behind the guest house. Absolutely loved our stay, look forward to coming again in the summer and staying longer.

Review 9:Hard to find. Get good directions before you go.

Review 10:Easy walk to all of Luneburg Altstadt activities. Great restoration of 500 year-old building. Good breakfast. Parking provided.

Review 11:Nothing.

Review 12:Perfect situated in Lüneburg oldtown, close to everything, very quiet area.Everything with the suite number 10 is far out. Huge room with its own kitchen, with eating space for four persons, huge bathroom with both tub and separate shower, extra wc, huge livingroom with a kingsize bed and two comfortable sofas, extra sleepingroom with two separate beds. Everything was very perfect in suite 10, you want to stay there for a much longer period than you booked.

Review 13:when its hot its really hot. and old building so you dont get ac.

Review 14:a lovely enviroment in an old brewery. you get a nice pentry with a fridge and ice box.

Review 15:This was our second time in this hotel. Cannot be better. Top quality!!

Review 16:Very noicy and not comfortable

Review 17:Lack of communication regarding checking out of property. All notices in German only.

Review 18:Location very good. Lovely town and accommodation very central.

Review 19:Arrived with ony other guests, no staff. Some difficulty gaining access to room.

Review 20:Location in the historic core of Luneburg.

Review 21:A very nice hotel, clean and tidy and a very fine breakfast.

Review 22:The absence of wifi meant we needed to look for zones in the city.

Review 23:It was so convenient to be able to park our car behind the guest house, a delightful historic building just a stone's throw from the centre and interesting streets. The bed was comfortable, the breakfast great.

Review 24:The room on the ground floor has little light and the hard wooden floors (not carpeted) on the hallway are noisy when guests go to breakfast. Breakfast wasn't amazing either (but they did have lactose free milk which somehow made up for it).

Review 25:Although it was an old house, with high ceiling, the room warmed up really quickly. The bathroom smelled nice, the sheats and towels looked clean.

Review 26:Generally it wasn't a problem that the Guest House wasn't staffed but only being given one pillow each and having to wait until breakfast to ask for extra ones meant my husband had one very poor night's sleep. There were random items in the kitchen area - lots of saucepans for one hot plate and no chopping board and cleaning cloth for example. Also the bath towels were small and hard.

Review 27:Overall was very pleased with our choice of this place and would recommend it to anyone. Loved the location near the centre of Luneburg and the building. Really liked having a small kitchen in the living area with fridge, kettle, china, cutlery etc. which gave us greater versatility. Also liked the very comfortable bed.

Review 28:No staff and some important information (like the phone number one had to call in order to pay) was only in German.

Review 29:Fantastic location in the picturesque old town, everything in walking distance, very Northern German interior, looks lovely and inviting, books by famous German authors on the bedside table, cute launch area upstairs, very helpful owner

Review 30:Construction work in the building opposite the hotel.

Review 31:Beautifully decorated room with wooden furniture (old style). Old house which was modernized. Clean, nice bathroom. Located in a small street in the centre of the town. Small kitchenette in the room.

Review 32:The host was friendly & everything was clean. It was close to the downtown area and the building and flat was lovely. The bed was very comfortable and and the lines were wonderful. The nice kitchen was a great addition. We appreciated the blow dryer as well. Overall-great location, friendly service & wonderful experience! We will be back!
