Reviews for Johan Hotel & Spa

Review 1:No shoes for SPA at room. So how should i go for SPA if i don't have them in room, I don't see why should i ask essential things if it is called SPA. You can hear everything whats going on in corridor, bad doors, doesn't keep any noise... SPA is really small area and Turkish bath is cold...

Review 2:good breakfast

Review 3:Staying here for the second time. Still enjoyed its exceptional location near the historical center of Kuressaare! Outstanding modern design of the building (of its contemporary part), good rooms, lovely personnel everywhere! Private parking (driving to it can be a little bit tricky but still manageable), very stable and fast wifi, rather rich breakfast (crowdedness near the buffet area needs some design solution though). Also I used their spa and some treatments and really enjoyed it at much as well! Hope to visit this place again.

Review 4:The room was quite old and had a weird smell. ALso, the bathroom was not the cleanest. And no new towels were provided when asking to clean the room. I therefore had to go down to the reception myself to ask a new one. Would make sense that you get at least one new set of towels/bathrobe for a 4-night stay.

Review 5:Pancakes at the breakfast buffet were amazing.

Review 6:However all hotel in general is to contrast in bad way and it is very contraversial, because we stay in old part of the hotel building and it was not worth the price: bathroom was quite terrible, space in the room was so little, bed was very uncomfortable. Recommendation - book rooms only in new part of the building.

Review 7:Staf is excellent, breakfest and spa procedures - as well.

Review 8:Spa was quite small, could stay there for 15 minutes and got bored. Also the outside pool was so small, although in picture it seemed to be quite big.

Review 9:Best breakfast I have had. Food choice was incredible.

Review 10:Room stinks, sheets where dirty (even bloody), booked treatment was cancelled few minutes before start. For that price there are much-much better options in Saaremaa.

Review 11:Paper thin walls, you could hear every word, that includes snoring. Double bed is actually two singles put together. Room was a bit damp and nowhere to hang wet towels etc.

Review 12:Good location, SPA was small but ok, outside pool was nice. Breakfast was good.

Review 13:Hotel has 2 buildings - old and new. The old one stinks as old stuff, the rooms are small and dark. Old furniture. Uncomfortable bed. No hair-dryer.

Review 14:The spa area is very good! Children friendly. Location is quite central. Nice breakfast.

Review 15:Family room windows are right at the noisy tavern yard which was opened till 2am and people were screaming even till 3am. Ventilation system was whining. TV had only on channel available. No fridge were we could keep babys food. This was all to much for the price we paid.

Review 16:Friendly staff, didn't want to make them unhappy with problems we met.

Review 17:Two years ago we had a room in the new part of this hotel, which was really nice. Now however, we had a room in the old part, which was terrible. Outdated small rooms, noise ventilator, mold in the shower, ... At night the room next to us was having a party all night (literaly until 7am). As the sound insulation is really bad, we called the reception. Hotel staff was not able to get them to open the door, so we had no night rest at all! Really unacceptabel!

Review 18:I've stayd in this hotel in June 2015 in family room with my kids. The room is not at all family friendly, overpriced and hotel staff has negative mentality. I've booked family room, but the beds were old and matress from extra bed was missing - so I could not use it, when needed. Windows covereings where to short to cover entire window, door was not soundproof. They call themselves a SPA Hotel, but we had only one set of towels for entire family and there is no place to dry them. The double bed was not a double bed, but two single beds with very old matresses and you can hurt yourself (as my wife did), because you do not expect any solid frame in the middle of the bed. Stuff was slow and incompetent. Wall between rooms are thin, no extras in the room - not even a hairdryer This hotel does not match the images on the website. The h otel is not cheap, overpriced and it's not worth payingthe price . I will not come back. If you still decide to stay there, DO NOT PAY when you check in - this is the first thing they will ask you to do, when you enter. And you will not get your money back, even if you are seriously right to have it.

Review 19:There was no place where I can dry my towel and other staff, so if I would stay for more then one day it would be a disaster. Also there was no hairdryer in my room. I think it is unexceptable in SPA hotel.

Review 20:Good breakfast, clean and quite good spa, clean room and very fast wifi. Good location. A lot of parking space.

Review 21:Excellently located in the very center of Kuressaare! Wonderful design of the building, good rooms, lovely personnel everywhere! Private parking, stable wifi, rich breakfast. Despite my very short stay, I still had an opportunity to use their spa and treatments and enjoyed it at much as well! Hope to visit it again some time.

Review 22:- dining area too small - You can easily hear your neighbours through the walls - Bathroom cheap or "plasticky" and not the cleanest

Review 23:+ Location + Friendly staff + Good, clean spa + parking next to the hotel

Review 24:This is a SPA hotel. And how SPA hotel may not have hair dryer in the room? It was really cold in the room. Toilet paper was only half of the roll. WIFI was not working in the room.

Review 25:Personal is friendly and helpful.

Review 26:No slippers in the room, or tray for toothbrush, hairbrush, etc in the bathroom.

Review 27:Privacy, cosiness. Such a nice hotel with the "medevial" feeling.

Review 28:Smallish blankets.

Review 29:Room had it's own sauna and basic kitchen appliances. Outdoor pool in SPA area was amazing experience - with millions of stars overhead.

Review 30:All was fine except one small thing- im order 60m2 room, but when arrive late night due tech problems receive offer get for same money 3 times less room. It was late night for me find others rooms in this city with childs

Review 31:Good spa, breakfast

Review 32:In old building we could hear the detailed conversation from next door - noise from corridors. Bad smell all over the hotel. The bed was noisy as well. The selection in breakfast was modest and the hot food was cooled at 10 a´clock.

Review 33:Location. Rooms at new building are quite allright. Knowing that the service and food quality in Saaremaa in general is not the highest level, this hotel is average.

Review 34:Poor Wi Fi connection in old building, a little bit cold water in the pool (but shown like it should be 28 degrees), no hairdryer available in the room (sure, I did not ask at reception)

Review 35:Friendly staff, good breakfast, clean rooms, outside pool and lounge bar

Review 36:1. Poor ventilation of rooms, there is no temperature control (unfortunately, due to the heat it was impossible to sleep at night). 2. Some rooms are equipped with unopened windows (claustrophobia risk!). 3. Poor hygiene measures offers in hotel room.

Review 37:1. Excellent location of the hotel - the old town of Kuressaare. 2. Small and cozy spa. 3. Flexible, considerate and good-natured hotel staff. 4. Wonderful massages ... Excellent quality!

Review 38:Tiny hot room. Couldn't pass the double bed without pain to knees. No hooks for clothes, no shelves or drawers for unpacking clothes. Needed to keep everything in the suitcases. No soap, shampoo only for first shower, not replaced. No new towels without asking for them. No place to dry moisty towels. No hair dryer. I expected spa towels, bathrobe, slippers from a hotel named Spa bot there was none. Towels in the spa were quickly gone and not replaced. Personnel refused to change or upgrade room although there still were two free std rooms and one superior room at booking.com for the same three nights. Payment for the reservation immediately withdrawn. Blame yourself if you book it, and regret when you find out what you've got! Our room had a window few meters over the outdoor bar where there was noise, music and smoking until 11 pm. So we needed keep the window closed despite the heat. We got for the extremely hot room a fan to put at the desk, but this occupied the only one power outlet in the room. Advise that you bring own A/C branch outlets and extension cord. No desk lamp. Unreasonable high cost for our small dog, 15 €/night, although after long discussion got a discount with one night. We did not get anything for these 30 €. In the hotel information at booking.com there is a roof terrace with jacuzzi, but not available without extra cost for reserving the private sauna. And not properly cleaned, and no water in the jacuzzi without such a reservation.

Review 39:Good free WiFi 8/4 Mbit/s. Good breakfast and tasty coffee. Dog was allowed at poolside at an expensive cost

Review 40:Room on the old side, thin walls ie. sound could be heard from neighboring rooms. Wifi didn't work in room (no range). Bed was quite bad with worn out springs. The price for a one-person room of 85 eur per night was steep, even with access to the spa.

Review 41:Spa was small but nice.

Review 42:The walls are So thin that you can hear absolutely everything from neighboring rooms you could hear every piss drop from the other rooms when they went to the toilet. No ventilation, no air conditioning. Can not open the window, the bed frame blocks it. Single large bed means two wooden frame beds pushed together leaving a 10cm wide wood frame in the middle of the bed. Sheets are short and barely cover the whole bed. The mattress was so worn that it made a horrible sound every time you turned your side also you could hear when someone else turned their side in the next room. The carpet stinks. Absolute ripoff. Never in the right mind worth the 85€ per night.

Review 43:Breakfast was in the other hotel Johan Design Hotel. Spa was quite good (in the other hotel, Design Hotel). Location.

Review 44:The standard room could be a bit bigger, but overall is ok. The bathroom could do with some extra shelves for toiletry.

Review 45:The pool area is not big, but not busy either, therefore very nice if travelling as a couple or family. The Spa services, staff and prices are great. The hotel staff is efficient and friendly.

Review 46:Very small double room. It was a single room with a squeezed-in extra bed. Making up the room was only by straightening the sheets a little, not by making up the bed properly and changing towels. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant once, and it was not good.

Review 47:Good breakfast. Nice pool and sauna facilities.

Review 48:- The friendliness of the staff/management (some were friendly others were quite hostile when confronted with criticism) - Mould in the bathroom (old wing), toilet not thoroughly cleaned and one of the shower doors was missing - In the family room the additional beds were broken It could actually be a good hotel but unfortunately lacks proper management and branding.

Review 49:The spa treatments are good value The design of the new wing The spa (though they should repair the lockers) The location in the city centre

Review 50:Check in time at 1600 is a bit late when check out time is 1200, but that is okay as long as we can leave our luggage. A dedicated space to leave the luggage would be good as we had to leave it in the dining hall.

Review 51:This hotel looks brand new. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. We were there for sightseeing and not for a spa stay, but it's great to have free use of swimming pools, bubble bath and several saunas. The breakfast is really good and with a great selection to choose from.

Review 52:The room was quite small. It was ok, except for the bathroom, which wasn't so clean. The shower was really old and a bit broken. SPA zone was ok for regular hotel, but not if it's called SPA hotel :)

Review 53:We liked the location and stuff was very friendly.

Review 54:staff, meal

Review 55:A little too narrow room and old keys to room

Review 56:I liked the breakfast!

Review 57:the room coresponds for single occupancy only and not for double

Review 58:place, spa, breakfast

Review 59:nothing mind

Review 60:helpfull personal, rich and tasty breakfast , clean and big room, comfortable beds, clean, nice SPA area

Review 61:Air conditioning was not functioning. Room had 26 degrees. Personnel were impolite. Service at the breakfast was unfortunately lazy.

Review 62:Room simple dirty and smell. And old

Review 63:Great and new spa

Review 64:Contacting Hôtel in advance went a bit difficult

Review 65:Nice stylish rooms Good breakfast Comfy Walking distance to Castle

Review 66:We were in the oldest part of hotell, that was not so comfortable.

Review 67:Breakfast Swimming pool

Review 68:Bed did had uncomfortable side borders

Review 69:Pool and sauna

Review 70:No airgontition . Too hot in the room

Review 71:Too hot

Review 72:Close to the centrr

Review 73:thin walls (I mean ... really thin), poor spa. queensize bed = two beds pushed together

Review 74:breakfast and location ok. Price ok.

Review 75:Outside pool was amazing, with millions of stars overhead.

Review 76:didnt work sauna

Review 77:design

Review 78:Problems with the bathroom. Bad smell.

Review 79:There was no fan in the room. Also gown is extra charged.

Review 80:outside pool

Review 81:The room could have been cleaner and more comfortable.

Review 82:Good location, nice pool, tasty breakfast.

Review 83:a peaceful hotel with good location

Review 84:Although the windows were shut you could still hear a lot of noise from the outside which was rather annoying (saying that it was a Friday night).

Review 85:It is situated in the center of town, not far from all the shops and restaurants and sights. Onauto OÜ car rental is only 5 minutes away (25 euro for a day). It was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 86:Broken towel hooks in the bathroom, noisy creaking and squeaking doors. No fridge in the family room. We came primarily because of SPA included, but the hotel SPA is pretty poor: e.g. temperature in saunas was lower than expected; no aroma in the sanarium and steam bath; small and simplistic pool area; number of lockers is very limited (only approx. 10) . There are definitely better options for SPA experience around.

Review 87:Good location, friendly personnel, great breakfast

Review 88:Stuf - no smile at all :( Cost for dog -15 € per nigt, even smolest!!! Same towel for Spa and room. Loud at night, because night club write next building. And we were even in new part of hotel, old part looked terrliblle. Price is hier than other best hotels:(

Review 89:The room standard is too low for this price. Spa is not so good ( more like 3 saunas nad swimingpool, not spa) You can hear everything what is happening in corridor - the doors are not helping at all... Hotel is very difficult to find. No space to put anything in the bathroom.

Review 90:Rooms in the old part are quit small, if you want a double bed remember to request it! Rooms poorly isolated were woken up by noise both from out side hotel and inside

Review 91:Staf was kind and helpful. Rooms were clean. Breakfast sufficient. Overall we were happy with our stay.

Review 92:my pillow was like a stone - big and hard, no alternatives...

Review 93:The place has so much potencial, its a nice cosy place, location is great, silent (considering couple of bigger parties held in the hotel area). I would suggest to hire a consultant to finetune the place :)

Review 94:Locker in the spa is not closed, since the keys are lost or broken locks. In the men's locker room is broken hairdryer.

Review 95:We stay at the hotel very much. Friendly staff, modern interior and a close distance from the town center is certainly a big plus. We have had a huge studio room with private bath. The room is clean, comfortable and very spacious. SPA center is clean. The hotel offers a delicious breakfast and a decent selection of dishes. I recommend to visit the cafe Lokaal. I am sure the cost of meals and an assortment you will be pleasantly surprised.

Review 96:Uncomfortable rooms, noisy, was unable to sleep until 4 am. Causesomebody was singing outside. Closed window didn't help.Very smallhotel for such amount of people.

Review 97:Spa area is pretty good, good breakfast, good location in the centre.

Review 98:The concrete walls looked a bit naked in the corridors (and in some rooms). Some small maintenance work was needed here and there.

Review 99:The spa was very nice. Breakfast was good. Staff was friendly.

Review 100:I am usually very tolerable as concerns accommodation but this time I really feel that I did not get what I had payd for. The room was very poor, small and ugly, there was nothing in the bathroom to put your things on, and although there was a bedside lamp, there was no power point for the lamp. When we arrived, the window was wide open and the room full of mosquitos. The linen was far too short for the bed. Note that the check-in is only at 4 pm.

Review 101:The hotel is located conveniently in the old town.

Review 102:Very basic 2 star room only 8 feet wide. Beds wobbly, noisy. Maid servicepoor. Hard to find due to one way streets.

Review 103:Staff are pleasant and accommodating. Central location

Review 104:The hotel is really nice, staff was excellent. Also the spa downstairs is really good. We stayed in the "old part" of the hotel and though the rooms were clean and nice it was a bit hot there. But all in all it is great value for the money you pay! Great breakfast also.

Review 105:We stayed in the old wing in standard rooms: - rooms were tiny - isolation was non existent: you could hear everything form the room next door (snoring, talking, when someone moved in the bed etc.) - bathrooms were out dated, small and they smelled strange - beds were very uncomfortable and very narrow There was a bar on the other side of the hotel and some rooms were suffering for the noise.

Review 106:- location was excellent - decoration in common areas was modern, clean and beautiful - the superior rooms looked new, clean, bathrooms clean and modern, beautiful but rather small

Review 107:There were no bathrobes in the room (which seems a must in a spa hotel). We got them for 2 euros each, when asked in reception. They wereextremely outworn!

Review 108:Location - in the center

Review 109:Catastrophic service in the restaurant, reworked food, absence ofwaiter, no education. Cold sauna, too cold atmosphere in general affectsthe final impression of a grey and unconfortable hotel.

Review 110:Location, price level

Review 111:The flat with sauna did have probably some moisture in the air, however the general appearance still is more than good.

Review 112:The accommodation did follow our expects, particularly location was excellent which partially is thanks to the size of the city.

Review 113:Family appartment windows face bar, which was working late over the week-end, so we had lots of noise during the night, at it turned out to be a very popular place.

Review 114:Kind personel, good atmosphere, quiet. Excellent spa, almost like a private, as no other travellers used it at that time.

Review 115:Crazy noise from the nearest restaurant for 2 nighgts - absolutely unaceptable for the hotel called Spa! The Captain's Court restaurant was under our windows and we could not sleep 2 nighrs.

Review 116:- Too expensive for the type of hotel, compared to others with similar price (we booked a junior suite, not a normal room)- We wanted to book some SPA treatments but from 3 different emails we sent before our arrival we never received a single answer. - Room dirty - We had the same towels for 3 days although we were leaving the dirty towels on the floor when we got back the same towels were hanging on the rack - Sometimes a smile from the staff is welcome, doesn't cost a penny and can make a huge difference

Review 117:There was a noisy bar at the yard. We had to sleep with earplugs. People smoking and shouting under the window. Would be nice to know about this beforehand. The room was smelling bad, not fresh air. Like somebody had been smoking there for long time.

Review 118:The hotel was nice and staff was helpful.Location really good except the bar in the courtyard.

Review 119:For being a new hotel, the design of the shower is quite stupid and it'salmost impossible not to make a mess :) Included breakfast was poorerthan expected

Review 120:Quite central location. We were in the new building and it was ok. Foronly 6 extra euros you can enjoy the Spa (though it's not huge it'sgood value).

Review 121:Unfriendly staff, bar closed at 23:00, outdated information on rooms(Spa does cost extra, contrary to info)

Review 122:Good beds, good breakfast, central location, wellness area ok

Review 123:Small beds which look like baby beds and even smaller bed sheets andComforter were too small.Rooms have no ventilation therefore smell stail air.

Review 124:Location and welcoming staff at the front desk however room andbreakfast needs improvements

Review 125:I chose this hotel, because the other hotels were either fully bookedor too expensive. The hotel was expensiver than the 4-stars-hotel Istayed the other night. The staff had problems with english and theroom was far away from what you call "cosy" (I had a standard doubleroom). In my booking I kindly asked the hotel for a double bed (theroom is double / twin), but they hadn't arranged it. Despite the factthat the room was clean, it was dark and not nice. The shower wasbroken and the ventilator in the bathroom didn't work properly. So -even if you need an accommodation for only one night, there are manynicer places to stay at.

Review 126:The old section should have far fewer stars than the new section: thereis a communist feel about having no bath mats, one cheap soap dispenserfor both shower and hand basin, sticky tape holding the tv remotetogether (although it didn't work anyway!) and lights that don't work.Dry white bread (along with yummy dark bread, admittedly) and majorcoffee stains in the cups are off-putting elements of an otherwise verygood breakfast. There are very few double beds in the old section, theseneed to be pre-requested. We were told we could push the twin bedstogether, but were not offered any help to move the furniture around tofacilitate this.

Review 127:Great location: close to town centre but quiet. The spa area is low keybut has great facilities: outdoor and indoor pool, whirlpool and variousoptions to heat yourself. It's free if you pay for a more expensive newsection room, but at 6 Euros each per day if you are in the old section, this is still a great deal. Breakfast buffet pretty good.

Review 128:The breakfast, for this price we expected much more.

Review 129:Great location in the centre of Kuressaare. Comfortable rooms. Staff was very helpful and friendly.

Review 130:It was unbelievably dirty - the towels were at least 5 years old and from white had turned into gray and dirty. The room was small for 5 adults, but for 2 nights it was fine.

Review 131:The location is excellent and the price is charming.
