Reviews for Peppers Bluewater Resort
Review 1:Slow check in. We did arrive early and were advised that we had to wait until 2pm as our room was not ready ( we arrived at 1:30pm)... Not unreasonable to ask. At 2:20pm we came back. Slow acknowledgement by staff to say they were looking into our check in. The room was NOT ready. We decided to not worry about having the sofa made us as my 3!kids managed to sleep in the queen bed. Also kitchen was very inadequate . Lovely kitchen but hardly any utensils. It took some time going back and forth with staff to get everything we needed. They were however apologetic and hit it sorted. For a four star you do expect everything to be perfect!
Review 2:Amazing location and very comfortable.
Review 3:Not enough staff to deal with the number of guests arriving in the afternoon. Only one person manning reception with a queue of 5 people waiting. Also very limited free wifi. Only place we stayed in in NZ that was so limited.
Review 4:Nice spacious and comfortable room.
Review 5:This place cuts corners everywhere, and the result is bad service. This may or may not relate to the fact that this Peppers is advertised for sale through the real estate agent in Lake Tekapo. Here's a list: 1. Really bad wifi. We had five rooms, and only one wifi code per room (for ONE device, and only 100MB of data). Staff were unapologetic about codes that didn't work, and we weren't the only ones who complained. Extra wifi cost a minimum of $10, of course. And there's no free wifi in the lobby. 2. Hot water runs out. One of our party had no hot water for an evening shower. When she complained she was told that the gas cylinder could not be replaced until morning. 3. Pay in advance policy. For anyone booking as a group (eg five rooms), the whole amount has to be paid in advance. 4. We were charged $40 for sheets for the sofa bed, even though the room was advertised as sleeping five people (and we put them on ourselves). 5. No hangers in the closet, but plenty of peanuts and dust bunnies that cleaning staff didn't vacuum up. 6. The "donate a tussock" scheme is a scam. When we were checking out we observed grounds staff filling a large skip with fully grown tussock and planting new ones. The "donation" is just a means of getting guests to pay for grounds maintenance. This was our last stop in a South Island tour. In every motel we stayed in we found friendly staff, great facilities, good wifi, excellent service and value for money. Not here. Our recommendation: give Peppers a miss.
Review 6:The rooms are nicely done up and the location is close to shops and restaurants. The staff are as helpful as they can be under the circumstances, and very patient with the poor decisions at management level that detract from the overall experience of staying here. The restaurant is excellent.
Review 7:I feel sick with the house keeping in this resort, bloodstain were found on beddings (pillow covers and quilt). I couldn't image a four star resort hotel will let it happen. Very disappoint with the customer service they provided. The front desk guy replaced the covers and quilt (but a smaller size one), and asked us to talk to the duty manger in the next morning, because nothing else he was able to help at that time. He promised us he would report everything to the duty manager, so I thought the duty manager would as least follow-up this issue when we checked out. However, the duty manager pretended nothing had happened and didn't show any interests to follow-up with us, even we checked out with her. I would say if we don't raise the problem again with her, she won't do anything at all!!!!
Review 8:Good location and view.
Review 9:Our room was filthy with stains down the front of the fridge cupboard and food on the skirting's.
Review 10:The staff were great and it is in a great location
Review 11:Room was not cleaned properly - hair on ensuite floor, carpets not vacuumed. Very small room. Problems with wifi. Only only cup provided for tea and coffee (for a couple).
Review 12:Many sky channels on TV
Review 13:There was nothing that I disliked about the place just the wi fi wasn't limited
Review 14:The place was close to everything and liked the view of the lakes from our apartment. The food was execellent.
Review 15:Limited free wifi. Bedroom area small. Couldn't book in for dinner. Advise booking in advance.
Review 16:The apartment was very well equipped. Lovely spacious living area upstairs.
Review 17:Our family of 5 (3 teenage children) loved our 2 night stay at this Hotel. It was very, very comfortable, & clean, & had great views. Great location.
Review 18:As a person with a mobility limitation I was shocked to find out that this resort was designed without any consideration of those with mobility limitations. We were forced to park at least 100 metres from our room, with narrow sloping (sideways as well) footpaths, with numerous steps just to get to the door of the complex we stayed in. Once through the shared front door, then there was two flights of stairs to our room, with the stairs continuing on-wards to another room above. When we realised the problem at check-in and requested better parking, or an alternate room with closer access , the attitude from reception was "tough, we're booked out, you should have arrived earlier’. I’m still not sure what difference earlier check-in would have made, as apparently there are no rooms in this complex which have parking adjacent to the accommodation - it would have been nice to know that before I made the booking. This is the first 4-5 star resort / hotel I have encountered that did not have a lift for access to multi-storey accommodation, and did not provide parking (either standard or disability) adjacent to, or with easy access to accommodation rooms. I am surprised I would need to ask about these things before making a booking – I certainly will in future!Had it not been 7pm, and at the end of a long, tiring day, we would not have stayed in this complex due to the attitude at reception, and the disability unfriendly design of this 4-5 star place.I couldn't use my small, low centre of gravity mobility scooter anywhere in this resort / hotel, due to the steps and dangerous slanting footpaths. Good luck if you were trying to use a wheelchair or a large mobility scooter!
Review 19:Paid for a deluxe lakeview room as this was the only room available at the time I made the booking. The view was fantastic, the bathroom was spacious and well set out, bed was comfortable and furnishings were relatively new and modern style. Full kitchen looked good until I looked in the drawers for utensils - good thing I hadn't planned on cooking as there was not sufficient equipment to do much more than heat up a meal. We did meet one very friendly, helpful staff member in the car parking area, who was ferrying luggage from the car parks for other guests. He was most understanding of our problem, and did his utmost to assist us. I wish I could remember his name, so I could personally thank him.
Review 20:Small room with no outlook. Building evacuation alarm went off at 6am due to someone having a hot shower. Not impressed!
Review 21:Location was great but the rooms with a view must have been very expensive.
Review 22:No coffee cups/ spoon but jug kettle available so not sure how can make coffee ?? Was very small room wasn't told so and also said free internet but was provided 100mb...
Review 23:There was only one bathroom downstairs for 5 people. The outside air conditioners made a low level noise in one of the bedrooms when trying to sleep.Wifi wasn't free, but also wasn't working when we were there.
Review 24:We booked a two bedroom apartment with lake views, which did not disappoint. The lounge area upstairs was very spacious, It was close to Tekapo Village with all the facilities and the Hot Pools. The reception were very helpful and knowledgeable about activities.
Review 25:Staff location buildings area
Review 26:Our superior mountain view was over other chalets and of a car park with big coach in! Very unapologetic deputy manager who offered a measly bit of cash back. We paid 450 dollars and it was such Poor value compared to others inNZ. The place itself resembles a concentration camp and the area lacks character and you could just aswell save your money and stay in a cheap motel closer to the lake.
Review 27:the room is so small and walls are too thin we can hear the neighbours side and above us..horrible experiwnce ...no room space at all for moving
Review 28:location is near to only supermkt
Review 29:The restaurant was too busy, and we had to get a take-away meal.
Review 30:We liked the spacious room, and the views. Also the free laundry was valued. The staff were all helpful and friendly.
Review 31:Very small room ,no view whatsoever. The restaurant was booked out so had to make other arrangements.
Review 32:Great location close to Lake etc .Room was modern and clean with nice bathroom.
Review 33:Their booking system imported from booking.com seems not work very well. Our room rate includes breafast, and they were not able to find it...
Review 34:Spacious room, nice view.
Review 35:No internet. Noise level from upstairs kept us awake until 1.30am and woke us at 6.00am. Doorbell rang in both apartments at same time and people upstairs kept ringing it. Bottom bed sheets were not tucked in well.
Review 36:We had a superior room which turned out to be three floors up. On entering the building it was like entering a rundown stair in a tenament building on a rundown housing estate. The only thing missing was the graffiti. The doors and walls were dirty looking and full of scuff marks. The room was tired looking although clean. Reception staff were not very welcoming. Restaurant menu was unappealing to us.
Review 37:The bed was large and comfortable. The bathroom was lovely and the shower was superb. Balcony with stunning view of lake Tepako.
Review 38:The heat pump made noisy to sleep bed room and living room during sleeping. No other facilities e.g. swimming pool, sauna, free internet.
Review 39:good location
Review 40:Room size and under stairs type location--mostly we felt mislead from the website and would not have booked this type of room B'fast charge too high and tried to charge us for a full b'fast when knew this not right
Review 41:Locality
Review 42:I booked a one-bedroom villa with lake view in Peppers Bluewater Resort because of its lake view and washing machine in the room. Indeed there is no washing machine in the room, the staff said they don't have any and "blamed" Booking.com providing wrong information!!! The view of our apartment is really below expectation, it is better to go out and see the Lake Tekapo instead. Most of the facilities did not work very properly. The heating system is either not worked or takes hours to get the room warm. Unlike other accommodation we stayed in NZ, the electric blanket is not ready to use, we have to place in the bed by ourselves. The cleaning is terrible. We are shocked that the oven in our apartment is full of grease and dirt.
Review 43:WIFI was not free and this let them down. Nearly all motels/hotels have free WIFI.
Review 44:Nice location. Good units and kitchen. Well situated. Staff helpful.
Review 45:Lots of banging and bumping from adjacent/upper rooms. Basin in bathroom cracked. We had a small room with no view, that wasn't a problem, we expected that. However, room wasn't really up to the "Peppers" standard I'd experienced in the past. For the price, it was pretty ordinary.
Review 46:Good location, good value. Heated towel rail.
Review 47:We got there at 3pm and the room was still not ready, not cool. Check out time was 10am, didn't know what took housekeeping so long to clean a room. Soundproof was bad, could hear next door talking.
Review 48:I would not say it was bad but was rather disappointing for the money. Facilities provided were very minimal. Why have a kitchen when hardly anything to cook with and why have a dishwasher when only 3 of each piece of crockery. Bathroom tiles and windows could have been cleaner. Walls were marked.
Review 49:One of the smallest rooms I've stayed in . Bath room was almost bigger than bedroom. Very over priced for the room we got. Also no WIFI, not even in the lobby.
Review 50:I'm sure room with views would be nice...however not the one we were allocated
Review 51:No instant coffee so we used the coffee machine with capsules aftergoing through 5 of them as we couldn't work it out we find in verysmall print we were going to be charged for them. I complained thoughand they said we won't be charged.
Review 52:Very flash we were in shock over how nice it was for $143 by far thenicest accommodation we've had on our 2 week trip so far
Review 53:The room was very small. We have stayed at many high end hotels and this was by far the smallest and there was no out door space. Would I consider staying there again, the answer would be no.
Review 54:Good walking distance to the resaraunts
Review 55:No WIFI available when I was there.
Review 56:Great location for Lake Tekapo. Only stayed one night. Room had a decked area where you could sit out on and see the lake between the buildings in front.
Review 57:Smallest room we had in NZ and one of the more expensive Although the place was not very full we were given a room right at the back looking onto the rear chalets
Review 58:One of the few places available in the region Quiet Car parking directly outside
Review 59:I do understand that we booked standard room still the room size was very small. This resort is not in a city like Melbourne or Sydney where there is space constraints hence they could have made a till bigger room. It's definitely not value for money. Also, there is no window in the room. Really disappointing. Strongly recommend others not to stay here. Not worth spending about $200.
Review 60:The property is in a good location.
Review 61:got 4-5 huge flies inside, disgusting steak smell spread all over 2 level villa, awful oven really dirty, seems never cleaned first hotel i've ever been to that leaves smelly rooms to guests
Review 62:paid extra for lake view, worth it
Review 63:Lake view was the back side of a building across the road unless you stood at the ranchslider and looked to the left or right of that building, very disappointing. Food was excellent and wait staff were friendly but the service was terrible. It took 20 min for our wine to arrive after ordering it but it sat on the bar for most of that time. 2 hours for a simple 3 course meal and we had to ask for dessert menus as we were tired of waiting. Wait staff doubled at reception which explains a lot.
Review 64:Staff were helpful, room was clean and comfortable, FOOD WAS EXCELLENT
Review 65:1. slow check in speed, long waiting; 2. WIFI is not working 3. the attitude of the check in duty manger when we complain about the non working WIFI 4. there is a pair of dirty socks on sofa 5. @ 2.30am, we was waked by fire alarm and need to leave the hotel room and standing in the cold opening area which is just the contruction error for the building when someone take a long/hot shower at night.... horrible, avoid it!!!
Review 66:the balcony with water view
Review 67:Noisy Air Con. unit (not our room ). Much noise and vibration on outside wall. We got about 3 hours sleep. This was reported to reception, which was acknowledged, but no compensation was suggested.
Review 68:The weather
Review 69:The place was filthy-heavy dust and grime everywhere including urine on bathroom floor and dirty shower. Told staff who promised to clean up but did nothing. I'll never stay with them again!
Review 70:Reasonable location
Review 71:Room needed a good clean, mildew on the bathroon ceiling, alarm clock not working, no teaspoons to make a cup of tea, only 1 hot chocolate sachet, the room was supposed to be the deluxe room, would hate to see the standard room. And a staff member who did not seem interested in my comments
Review 72:The standard room is ridiculously small, cant even open your suitcase, luckily we could upgrade to a bigger Apartment, had to pay NZD 90 more per day. Nice Apartment, huge space...was perfect. Fist day they forgot to clean, called them and staff came to clean, but we had to tell them what to do and after cleaning the entire apartment was smelling as one guy had a really bad sweating odor. Looks like no management of housekeeping. Next day they cleaned but again very basic, carpet was dirty, still hairs in bathroom etc. Far too expensive for what you get. for NZD 290 per day should be a perfect place. No value for money
Review 73:Good location, could upgrade with pay to bigger apartment
Review 74:Generally The room was clean but I found few dark hair on the mattress ;/ Paid wifi (20NZD for 24h)
Review 75:We had the room with lake view and the view from the balcony was superb. The room was big enough. The bathroom with bath and shower. Very good toiletries. Amazing staff (especially Irish guy :) Free laundry.
Review 76:The breakfast was disappointing. It took a while to be seated and the buffet had been wrecked by a previous coach party. We had to ask for clean plates, bowls and replenishment of food. Overall a really unsatisfactory experience given the quality of and cost of the resort.
Review 77:Excellent resort with great outlook and facilities
Review 78:No rubbish tin in the kitchen No glass in bathroom to wash your mouth out after cleaning your teeth or taking your pills Doors into unit were dificult to manage!!!!!
Review 79:The position in Tekapo
Review 80:Lighting was quite dull - harder for mature couples. To gt ground floor and lake view we were close to the main road.
Review 81:Good location close to township; very clean; very efficient, polite front of house staff
Review 82:There is no free wifi service, which is common in the whole town, but it's really a problem.
Review 83:We liked almost everything! The location is perfect, the room is clean and well-equipped, and the view there is amazing!!
Review 84:The room was not as booked, when I asked the manager,he told me that a balcony was the same as a deck. we thought we were getting an upstairs apartment with a decent view, not a concrete wall to look at. the décor was rough and there was bare wiring hanging out of the tv system. the door safety chain was broken off as well. all together very disappointed with the managers response and the quality of the apartment.conmpared to other peppers we have stayed in, this was a bit of a dive...
Review 85:The smallest, darkest, 'no view' room possible. Air cond unit wyned outside my room all night. The people in Unit upstairs stomped around till after midnight, my light fitting rattled each time they moved. The view from my thin window was out to 500 grey boulders, nothing like the website bragged about. Wifi down the whole time I was there. When I checked out the Receptionist asked how my stay was and when I said awful, she never spoke to me again, obviously not able to engage if things aren't OK. Don't book room with A on the end of the numbet
Review 86:Location is gorgeous, the website talked up the views
Review 87:That when we had a damaged car as a result of the extreme winds and we needed to return home and therefore cancel our return booking (through bookings.com) that we could not get a refund and were charged the full price.
Review 88:A little worn and run down in places. TVs were very old. No free wifi is a huge letdown.
Review 89:Great views. Fantastic staff who truely understand customer service.
Review 90:The cleanliness needed tidying up, the Range hood was greasy and hand prints on the wardrobe and we left a note explaining, the splashback on the stove was dreadful.
Review 91:No wifi, but i believe they're sorting it soon. Loved everything else.
Review 92:Great comfortable clean apartment. Has everything you need. Lovely views. Fantastic food in the restaurant if you dont fancy cooking in your kitchen & friendly staff. Location perfect.
Review 93:The room felt like a dark prison cell. The window was small and it felt very depressing. It was the standard double room, so it was small as advertised, but it was not a nice room. It wasn't a very private hotel - walking round to another room I could see in nearly all the rooms on the ground floor. Ones facing the lake had big windows. Ones on the back had small windows facing the car park. They charged for the coffee pods, the Internet was expensive for very little data.
Review 94:The location was good, and the bathroom nice
Review 95:Unfortunately our room was not serviced, I phoned reception and was advised it would be done later that afternoon. At 6pm I saw a staff member who didn't know anything about it, and he kindly did it for us.
Review 96:We have never been to Tekapo before and absolutely loved it, especially the scenry, and the hot pools, and the location of the accommodation.
Review 97:Neighbours were screaming at each other and a few of the facilities didn't work that well for the cost of the room
Review 98:Comfortable , clean and beautiful view.
Review 99:Would be great if you had a range of phone chargers for those of us who forget to bring one! Also need improved espresso based coffees!
Review 100:Friendly staff, nice breakfast, lovely cheeseboard, great bathroom and amenities
Review 101:Very, very cramped room. Very firm bed. Expected a lot better for the price. Towels were changed when we did not want them to be -- not on floor as per policy.
Review 102:Convenient location, great breakfast, polite and professional reception staff.
Review 103:There was no Internet available as they were between providers
Review 104:The unit was very spacious and extremely well appointed with lots of space and good facilities
Review 105:I found the menu was a little wanting. Yes it was fine dinning BUT there should be other food available for people. It appears that I have also been over charged for my room. Not sure how I will sort this out
Review 106:The beautiful views, friendly staff only to happy to help.
Review 107:When I checked in they said "you've booked a very small room" and instead of trying to sell the room or perhaps up sell me to one they found better they just kept repeating that same sentiment. The alarm clock was at the wrong time, the shower ammenities were already open and half used, and the blankets stuffed into the cupboard without being folded or looking presentable. Worst was the wifi and mixed messages the staff had about why it wasn't working. It didn't make it better that I then went into town and spoke to a local who had free wifi at their cafe who said that Peppers wifi was always down and it wasn't just a modem issue or because they were switching carriers. When I was asked at checkout how my stay was and I responded that it was just "Ok" there was no follow up question but instead an "Okay good" and then proceed to the bill. I don't like it when people leave and then write a bad review so I asked to provide some feedback however was met by a blank face and someone who didn't really seem to care, hence why I am writing these comments now online. Some of these points should definitely be raised with the housekeeping team because although minor they really added up for me and with senior management regarding the lack of wifi, how this is communicated to guests, and what others are now saying about the resort.
Review 108:The location is convenient and the rooms are well set up.
Review 109:Dirty room- mould on walls in bathroom. carpet stained and filthy, no chairs ( or bedside table(room probably too small though promo suggests a "smaller room".
Review 110:Very little
Review 111:We changed our nights stay and were told we would get a $81.00 refund / credit. We ere booked for a Tuesday and moved it to Monday. We had to really battle to get this credit back. That should not happen. Very poor service in regards to that - On arrival the lounge was very dirty with someone's toenail clippings under the couch. A cleaner was called in to vacuum the room. We decided to dine elsewhere due to the poor service that night. A second toilet on the first floor would have been ideal for 5 people, or separate a toilet altogether. No coffee pods in the packet, no milk, only enough teabags for 1 cup each. Very slack. Had to ring for more towels. We were booked for 5 people - there should be enough of everything for 5. The information book was dated and old - times for dining were incorrect for lunch. We had an ok view - we should have been upgraded with the disruptions we had. Never mind the weather was lovely.
Review 112:We loved the location, the rooms were nice. Breakfast was very good but could've been a lot warmer. Chef was prepared to organise a take away menu for us for lunch as we decided to move on. We would have liked to stay an extra night but was not too happy.
Review 113:the drive way between units has been designed by a crazy chicken. its ok though because they give you a map...
Review 114:The location is very useful on a trip from queenstown/Wanaka to Christchurch. The restaurants in town are good although they dont stay open that late. The lake and hot pools also help to make the area good. peppers itself is well run, tidy, clean, modern, comfortable, way above av for nz accomo.
Review 115:Cramped, dark, noisy with three air conditioners directly outside humming loudly all night. Take ear plugs and ask for a room with some light. Filled with bus loads of tourists.
Review 116:Clean
Review 117:Has a pod-based coffee machine but no pods! Bathroom is a a bit on the small side. Laundry takes forever to dry the clothes.
Review 118:Nice and roomy villa suite, generally clean with a great location. Within walking distance of the main village and convenient to buy groceries. Guest laundry is free of charge.
Review 119:Our heaters didn't work properly. In one room it was too hot and in the other was cold air. The breakfast buffet was a bit disappointing, no fresh fruit or made to order eggs.
Review 120:The hotel is beautiful, the location is fantastic, everything is nicely set up, has great decor and is very comfortable. Apparently, every room has a great view. Bathrooms are great, shower pressure, fantastic!!!
Review 121:the room was not ready for check in until 4.30pm, not very happy for the late check in. they just said its too busy~~blah, blah, blah, but this is their responsibility to make sure customer can check in at 2pm. we wasted more than 2 hours their.
Review 122:i like the location, staffs are nice
Review 123:Didnt have wifi connectivity. We were told it was due to the windy weather. The next day there was no wind and still no wifi. Not a major issue but something they should look into fixing.
Review 124:The views were great, the rooms clean and staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 125:room is too small with no chair, even no space to put my luggage, wifi can not be connected, not value for this price.
Review 126:location is not bad, bed is large
Review 127:we were given 2 single beds instead of a double. when we let them know, the came and changed bed arrangement but didn't do a satisfactory job. they left the bottom sheets of the singles on and they scrunched up in the middle, which made it pretty uncomfortable. the top sheets weren't tucked in and one of the bed side table was left in the middle of the room...I would have expected a lot more from a 4.5 star hotel!!
Review 128:it was great good location, nice rooms
Review 129:1. Small, shoe-box sized room 2. No view. One very narrow window looking to the rear of the property. 3. The room didn't match the advertised review.
Review 130:The road leaving
Review 131:The heat pump from the room above going all night, sounding like a generator going outside our window, very hard to have a good nights sleep
Review 132:Lovely surroundings, pleasant staff. small room, but OK
Review 133:No TV in bedroom downstairs, only upstairs in open lounge.
Review 134:Great location opposite the lake. One bedroom Lakeview room spacious, upstairs open lounge with kitchen. Very comfortable bed. Walking distance to shops, restaurants and quick drive to Hot Springs. Highly recommended and will definitely stay again!
Review 135:Nothing, perfect
Review 136:We managed to get the free upgrade. The room is big, what ever needed is almost there. The floor in the bathroom is heated. Good to keep us warm when shower.
Review 137:room was a bit small. air-con was a bit noisy. we took our luggage to the reception and was told our room is on the other side. so have to put the luggage back and drive further to get to the room.
Review 138:quite and very convenient to get to the town
Review 139:We had our wedding down there apart from a few incidences I can't complain so that's why there is a 10/10 for every room under whitehead from the 27th August 2015 to 31st August
