Reviews for Copthorne Lakefront Hotel & Resort

Review 1:The beds are rather small, there is no other cutlery than spoons, the shower/bath and curtain was dingy and could do with some updating, alarm clock went off every morning at 6am even when we re-set it, quite pricey considering and wifi wasn't free

Review 2:Our room had a lakefront view, Our beds were reasonably comfortable and bedding was clean, the tv has sky and the hotel was in a good location

Review 3:did not get our room cleaned for second day staying. when arrived room not so clean v dusty. no air conditioning and rooms v hot particularly bathroom

Review 4:Very unpleasant experience. They did not respect their customers at all.I made the booking one month in advance, yet when I arrived, the stafftold me that they didn't have a room for me and I have to stay inanother apartment which is further away from downtown. They didn'tgive me any discount or upgrade. Even worse, at the apartment (CopthorneHotel & Apartments Queenstown Lakeview) they arranged for me, theygave me a room that was really dirty and old, with the same amount ofcharge! That was really shameful! When I complaint, the staff said thatif I didn't like the room I can cancel my booking. So irresponsible! It's impossible to find another available hotel to stay in holidayseason! I had to argue with them to finally change to a better room.During the whole process, the attitude of the staff at the apartment wasreally bad. Will never go back to this hotel and the apartment again!

Review 5:None.

Review 6:Location, ambience and good food. You have a very good chef who cooked the best meal that I have tasted in all my visits to hotel restaurants in Singapore and overseas. Make sure you have him around when we make our next visit. Yes you also have a very helpful, polite and informative Duty Manager at the front desk. It is very important to have a smiling staff when you enter the hotel for the first time to check in. It makes for a pleasant stay. I cannot remember her name. She has a Thai name.

Review 7:Was not impressed by the $10 per night parking charge. May put us off staying again, especially since the car park was mostly empty

Review 8:Very comfortable bed and extremely handy location without being in all the noise of central town

Review 9:- room "with a view" was supposed to be a view on the lake, but was on the roof of the other building of the hotel - you have to pay for the WIFI in the rooms, and you are very limited in the lobby, which is a shame when you pay a high price already (it was the most expensive room we had in NZ and the only one without a free wifi)

Review 10:Large, comfortable and clean room

Review 11:Probably not a common issue but bedroom lacked a ceiling fan

Review 12:Jr suite was quite nice, good bed & linen. Lounge area and bathroom also pleasant. Views were excellent also

Review 13:We had a junior suite, which was fine but very very dated, the bed is way past its best.Certainly not worth the money we paid. A microwave was provided, also a dining table and chairs, but no crockery or cutlery!

Review 14:Lovely peaceful location great view from the balcony. Staff very helpful

Review 15:The time limit on the use of the spa, 45 minutes from getting the key to return the key only gave about 20 minutes in the spa, maybe should be an hour given the distance from reception.

Review 16:views from private balcony were lovely. Breakfast very good but could have been a bit less expensive.

Review 17:We had a series of poor experiences with the staff in the bar/snack area. Part of our lunch order was not delivered despite our having reinforced with the lady what we were ordering. Her supervisor then blamed us for not ordering correctly and finally told us that the lady was tired after a long day, possibly causing her to get our order wrong. Another less than satisfactory experience with a bar person when ordering a drink in the evening reinforced the problems. In a hotel of this "quality", this points to a decided lack of staff training. No guest should have to justify why we did not make a mistake to get it rectified.

Review 18:The front-desk staff were really good. Although the room was a little tired it was perfectly adequate. The view across the lake was spectacular.

Review 19:Room 1512 was advertised as a lake view room & priced accordingly. It wasn't a Lakeview room & nothing like the pics on your website.

Review 20:View of lake from bar & location

Review 21:Beds, we booked a double room which in the past has been a queen size bed and ended up with 2 x double beds which were not very comfortable. one was soft other wasn't too bad

Review 22:Location is excellent, bar facilities and staff were very good. Restaurant menu was very good, Check in/out very professional

Review 23:Room was old and dark. Bed too soft. Carpet needs to be changed. When we checked in the desk clerk told us our room was newly refurbished but we believed someone changed it. Integrity is important. On checking out i asked the clerk if it was a refurbished room and he said yes. Don't lie.

Review 24:The view of the lake.

Review 25:On going construction and the business like attitude of the front desk.

Review 26:Would have scored it higher if there was no on going construction during my stay. Rooms were well heated, beds comfortable and the shower water pressure is excellent not to mention that it heats up very fast.

Review 27:Tour buses are constantly parked right in front in main entrance so you have to clamber over luggage and hoards of tourists to get in and out.

Review 28:Great location, short walk from town and with views across the lake.

Review 29:Very helpful and friendly staff. Our room was fantastic with amazing views of queenstown. An easy walk to and from town. I would definitely stay again.

Review 30:staff more interested in Asian tourists. not made to feel important or welcome at all we felt like a nuisance being just a couple of kiwis

Review 31:good location

Review 32:Rude and unprofessional stuff checked us in, it later appeared that he was a manager, was very disappointed as someone recommend this hotel to us, and we deffinately did not get what we expected. Noone cleaned our room, until after 3pm, but on the day of checkout the cleaners were knocking on the door exactly at 10

Review 33:Beautiful view from the room, there is a laundry room to wash and dry the clothes ;)

Review 34:Mass transit accommodation for bus loads of tourists, Charged for Internet usage Charged for parking your car in there car park if you weren't prepared to pay you had to find a spot on the public roads Reception terrible due to having to deal to all the passengers from the buses

Review 35:View from bedroom at rear of hotel

Review 36:Its just out of town so it takes like 10 minutes to walk to places but not really a hassle for us.

Review 37:Very luxurious. Staff were helpful, really great value for money. Comfy room and nice view.

Review 38:Fabulous hotel, great views, ideal for a comfortable trip. Loved the spa pool, great facility. Loved the view. Breakfast in bed was fabulous and great value for money. Bed was extremely comfortable and large. Everyday newspapers. Feels like nothing is too much trouble. Would recommend to friends and would definitely stay again! Brilliant.

Review 39:Tired rooms, tired decor, had to pay for wifi

Review 40:Fred, I think his name was, at main reception was so incredibly friendly, helpful and relateable. I could not fault the staff at all - he was 10/10. Beds were super comfy

Review 41:We had a suite overlooking the lake, it was beautiful, extremely comfortable bed, lovely spa bath, spacious lounge and great tea making facilities. Staff very helpful and close to the town. Excellent stay thank you

Review 42:Renovations ..made directions in lift etc..quite confusing.. not only myself, but some staff had trouble remembering which floor # for correct room..

Review 43:Nice clean good size room

Review 44:When i looked to see what the bathroom looked like, I was horrified and felt sick to see at least 6-7 black human hairs at least 5-7 cm lying on the surface of the bath, when I pulled back the shower curtain. This was very disappointing as we could of stayed elsewhere at a Hotel for less money and with more up to date decor. I felt to shocked to tell staff of this issue when checking out.

Review 45:The view was beautiful. The staff were helpful.

Review 46:When we arrived we were told there were no car parking spaces available and it was forbidden to park in the road. What sort of hotel is that? And despite our cancelling our stay immediately I note that we have been fully charged.Completely incompetent.

Review 47:I moved out rather than stay another night... there was confusion over my room, the staff didn't seem to know what was going on, I moved to a hotel with free parking and free wifi, which was also cheaper and in a better location. The rooms are being refurbished - I get that, they need it... but the room rate should be reflective of that.

Review 48:1. As we got to the room i checked the bed and I found someone's hair. 2. When I called the reception the staff couldn't understand English well 3. The flush was behind the toilet bowl.

Review 49:The view was just amazing.

Review 50:A bit of a rabbit warren to get to the room. The ambulance staff had difficulty with the stretcher getting it into the lift.

Review 51:Loved the view from the big bedroom window and liked that it had a balcony from the living room.

Review 52:Most accomodation offers wifi & internet service free-disappointing to be charged. Also no ladies sanitary bags available in bathroom

Review 53:The prompt service to getting the power point fixed and help with connecting to Internet.

Review 54:Didn't like the shower over the bath. Would prefer separate shower. The electric blanket had a very uncomfortable plastic electrical connection which was in a very annoying position on the bed, thus digging into my husband's shoulder when sleeping. We had to shift it to make it more comfortable.

Review 55:We liked the clean comfortable room with the stunning view.

Review 56:booked weeks in advance with a request for a double/queen bed plus two singles for the kids only to arrive at check in and be told that they dont do that bed configuration. had they informed us before check in we would have gone somewhere else. also tge rooms were far too hot to be comfortable.

Review 57:Not really a criticism of the Copthorne itself but more a general failure in all hotel accomodation packages & pricing. The lack of affordable options for a 2 Adult 3 Child family. This outdated notion of 2 Adult 2 Child families has got to change. We're not in the 80's anymore!

Review 58:The staff were extremely accomodating & helpful. Excellent.

Review 59:Not a very cosy athmosphere. Long hallways with low ceilings and no windows make you feel like you're on a boat. Rooms are noisy, escpecially if you're unlucky to have one next to the lifts. Spa was out of order but there was no mention of this when booking. Having to pay another 5 dollars every day for WIFI is very annoying, especially in a fairly expensive hotel like this one, can't understand why they wouldn't add 5 NZD to the rate and make it included.

Review 60:Good breakfast and dining. Clean rooms, comfortable beds. Nice location on the lakeshore, walking distance to town centre (10 mins)

Review 61:Room odour of cigarette smoke, given ground floor with view of car park although booking request was for a floor above ground level. Boiler troubles meant no hot water on first night. Bathroom was grubby with hair on floor and blood stain on the door.Very disappointed with room, however staff did move us to a better room on the second night which didnt smell.Temperature of rooms difficult to set.

Review 62:Staff were helpful and location close to town is good

Review 63:Distance to walk to get to room, which was unavoidable due to renovations.

Review 64:Extremely fast internet, which was also cheap. Free upgrade to bigger room after indicating that we were staying on short notice due to a flight cancellation. Our porter (Thibaut) carried two suitcases each 20kg in weight up an extremely steep staircase. This was very impressive!

Review 65:It was noisy in the mornings as people went past the room with their luggage. We would have liked to have some kitchen facilities including plates and cutlery.

Review 66:Proximity to city centre was perfect. Staff were all friendly.

Review 67:Cold breakfast. Cracked and dirty cup in room. Phone not working Slow to bring clean cups up to our room.

Review 68:Staff member very pleasant and sorry at check out. Discounted the breakfast and made notes of the other complaints.

Review 69:The room looked a bit 'tired' and the carpet could use a clean. And surely is it really ok nowadays for a hotel to charging for using the internet?! (You get 30 mins free in the lobby)

Review 70:The location is great! And the rooms are big (well mine was). Breakfast available was hearty.

Review 71:shower in the bath with a plastic sliding screen, just to small.(i hope the renovations are eliminating some of these bathrooms)

Review 72:When i travel i spend the least amount of time in my room, so when i return from a days activities my room was very clean, very comfortable, and was good value for money.Check in/out very good. I was upgraded to a room with a view across the lake to the mountains which was a pleasant surprise.Apart from renovations that were in progress that the websites never seem to inform you about, and it didn't really affect me i would stay there again. This hotel probably has a lot more to offer than i utilized.

Review 73:A minor point but almost everywhere else I have stayed had free WiFi.The $5 charge was not unreasonable but did not need it as I had data ona Vodafone sim card.

Review 74:After Jetstar flight to Melbourne cancelled we were left to ownresources to find accommodation. Jetstar would reimburse up to $150 soon line search came up with this hotel that was priced accordingly andclose to town.

Review 75:Hotel was in the middle of renovations, the spa pool was not in operation, the main reason for booking here was for the spa pool we used the restaurant 1 once. we ordered before three other tables and were the last to get our food also the entree we ordered came with the mains which we ordered first, then the meal I ordered which was the chicken parmigiana was so raw it was still clucking I come from a chefing background shows they forgot or lost our order and used a very quick method of cooking in my opinion ameteur chef traits we ordered a serve of chips which taste good but over cooked and still not cooked in the middle. Good points Staff were good Our Room was fair with good views but feels like a maze to get to our room The room attendants were great and very polite Personally I won't stay here again

Review 76:Staff were scarce the room wasn't ready, renovations are occurring some rooms are a long complicated course from the lobby, the bathroom was very tired with peeling vinyl and the beds soft and spongy. Finally, i received a wake up call (unordered) at 6am. Overall ordinary. Look elsewhere.

Review 77:Nice lobby and bar. Great location.

Review 78:Unfortunately pictures on website were misleading. Hotel very tired. They are in process of renovations but no where mentioned other than asmall sign in the entrance. Heating in room far too hot, uncomfotable, bathroom venting was so so loud and on a timer clock which came on at5am. Yeh! The corridors hadn't been vacuumed in the 5 days we werethere or the coffee stains spilt on the tiles outside the lift beenwashed but the rooms were clean apart from first day when rubbish onfloor was from previous guests. Overall very disappointing and would notrecommend until they raise the standard and not the price and lets nottalk about the WiFi or lack of. Even the backpackers have free wifi.

Review 79:The location was very good.

Review 80:Crazy having only 30 mins of free wifi in lobby area in 2015! Quite noisy from other guests given multiple bus tours and unattended children running around the lobby area at night

Review 81:Pleasantly surprised given some reviews. Only a short walk down into the town centre

Review 82:Unfortunately the Spa wasn;t working due to renovations - we were looking forward to that after our ski holiday. We were directed to the Millennium which also had power failure with their spa units. Kids SKY would be a bonus

Review 83:Quiet hotel, with good facilities.

Review 84:No heater in bathroom, permanent bathroom ventilation too noisy, no individual desk light and bed (stand) lights; difficult parking during check in and unloading

Review 85:Paying to park car no free wi fi. No exhaust fan in bathroom. Bedroom windows steamed up and didn't clear so I couldn't see the view

Review 86:Nice room

Review 87:No free WiFi, no disposable toothbrush n toothpaste, no free slippers and bathroom was not vacuumed on the second day of our stay.

Review 88:Location was excellent just 10 minutes walk to town centre.

Review 89:We felt like we were in the naughty corner as we had quite a hike to our room due to the renovations. I was also expecting two double beds (as this was what I had booked), and we just had singles - that was disappointing

Review 90:Bed was very comfy, electric blanket a plus, room was spacious for the two of us, and warm.

Review 91:Our wee girl got suddenly ill and vomited all through the bed. The staff were brilliant. We were mortified when it happened but they were very helpful and understanding.

Review 92:I did get a bit lost finding my room but that was probably more my fault as the guy at reception did try to explain it. But had to change elevators and eventually ask some lovely cleaning ladies.

Review 93:Waking up to the sun shining on stunning mountains. All seen from my comfy bed.

Review 94:Quite tricky to get from one floor to another floor to finally get to your room. Would have wanted one big bed instead of two queens. Find the hotel room, bedding a bit old.

Review 95:The location and the view were good

Review 96:For the money and the fact it is supposed to be 4 star I wasn't that impressed. Have stayed in better cheaper 2/3 stars in New Zealand. The radiator, which you need on as it is quite cold, made a racket it all night which woke us a few times. The bed wasn't very comfortable and the room is actually a little dated. I got the impression we had been put in the old wing of the hotel. You have to pay for WiFi if you want it in your room and pay extra for parking ( but there is loads on the street), yet again I have stayed in cheaper hotels around new Zealand where this is included.

Review 97:There location is good, you can walk into town easily. The room was big enough for family of four and shower was good and hot.

Review 98:Tried to extend my booking and was told no rooms available. Checked booking.com for availability and 5 different types left including the one I was staying in so booked online again.

Review 99:Great location, comfortable bed and fairly clean. And they're currently renovating which is great for future stays, little to no noise disturbance and minimal visual signs of building works.

Review 100:The hotel is overpriced as it is need of renovation. It is wrong that accommodation providers are able to charge excessive rates for rooms that are in poor condition. The room rate should be a reflection of what is offered, not just charging the standard rate on every room.

Review 101:It was simply a matter of paying for any hotel that was available, the closer to the town centre the better.

Review 102:Went to the restaurant for a quick bite at lunch time. There was no one and nothing served. As we were in a hurry, we drove out briefly to get takeaways.

Review 103:Reasonably priced, well-located hotel, with parking on the same level as your room.

Review 104:Wi-Fi service should be free. The paid service provided was very slow, unreliable and too expensive. For that reason alone, I would not stay there again. Staying connected is important.

Review 105:I liked the location, the staff, the clean comfortable room.

Review 106:Wifi prices are a disgrace Not notified of construction works made getting to room difficult Rooms way to hot had to sleep with window open most nights

Review 107:Great location and great rooms with a fantastic view

Review 108:Only that big hotels should provide free WiFi as a matter of course.

Review 109:Quiet, comfortable beds, useful desk, table and two chairs, great bathroom, hot water. Accessible, responsive staff.

Review 110:Major renovations & no indication of this diring booking. Advertised facilities nit available during stay but wanted to still charge for parking & room wifi

Review 111:Location & room view

Review 112:Paid wifi is ridiculous, when most hotels/motels throughout NZ are free. The packages for paid wifi were very expensive and the options not great. Refurbishments made getting to and from the room confusing and almost every time one of us got lost or went the wrong way. At breakfast, bacon was very oily and under cooked and some bread stale.

Review 113:Friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are great with a great view of the lake/mountains. Breakfast was generally good and car parking convenient.

Review 114:They say limited free wifi but it doesn't work...in this day and age all hotels should offer free unlimited wifi in rooms. Also the hotel was been refurbished so no gym or spa facilities available which was bad timing the week of Winterfest...they should have planned better. Breakfast buffet was cold every morning. We enjoyed the other Copthorne die the road much better.

Review 115:Location is a short walk from town

Review 116:Wifi needed to be purchased in addition ($10 a day) Although you could redeem 30 mins per day free from the hotel reception area. Certain areas of the hotel were going under renovation but this didn't cause any problems of interference.

Review 117:Easy walking distance into the main town, and in the perfect location. Lovely room with incredible lakefront views. Room and bathroom were well catered and tastefully decorated. Staff were very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. Amazingly comfy bed, and quiet location- quite frankly I didn't ever want to leave!

Review 118:The bed wasn't very confortable, old wool, scratchy blankets. The heating unit was quite noisy, more from lack of maintenace I believe! The room was on need of "electrical" improvement. Only 2 double plugs available, one in the bathroom and one on a corner on the floor( and they charge gor Wi Fi), so no many options for the kettle or the computer or the charging of phones. Other plugs were occupied by extension cords which were full. Worse housekeeping service I've had in a hotel, one bed was fully made, the other one not, with the bed cover left crumpled on the floor. The beds looked like they were made by a teenager going out in a rush. Toiletries were not replenished and room was not properly cleaned. Room was spartan at best, although the chairs were nice!

Review 119:Friendly staff, excellent location, conference room was quite good.

Review 120:Renovations were taking place which we were not aware of. The spa was closed due to this. The breakfast was cold and was not pleasant as had sat in Warmers for ? Time. On check out the receptionist was unfriendly . The long walk back to the room having to use two lifts to get there.

Review 121:The politeness and helpfulness of the majority of the staff. Cleanliness of the room. Closeness to centre of town.

Review 122:Arogant reception staff our daughters dinner was giving to somebody else so she had to wait for her tea.hunks of butter that was ment to be cheese from night room service. Restraint ladies are lovely only part we enjoyed about the stay

Review 123:Room to far away from entrance two elevator rides and two flights of stairs bit of a pain but hotel is being refurbished

Review 124:The room was great big comfy bed and the bathroom was awesome

Review 125:Room was average and cost more than advertised on website. No spa pool available as advertised on website. Staff very difficult to deal with and kept quoting "Hotel Policy" - not prepared to sort out any issues.

Review 126:Location was good.

Review 127:When I booked my "Relaxing" stay I was not informed of the very distruptive and noisy building work that was happening during my stay. The hotel isn't the cheapest in town, and guests deserve to be treated as guests and not as objects that are solely there to empty their wallets.

Review 128:Good Location

Review 129:furniture in room a bit tired but hotel currently refurbishing

Review 130:Fantastic view from Lakeview room - worth the little bit extra. Staff extremely helpful and courteous. 5 mins walking distance into town which was great.

Review 131:The general condition of the room and its furnishings are old and really need a good renovation job. The finishes in the bathroom does not meet the standard of the class of hotel it claims to be.

Review 132:Convenient location that require walking (we enjoy the walk to go to town\)

Review 133:You have to pay $15 per night for parking when there are 30 empty carparks in front of the hotel. Staff did suggest you can park on the street which I did.

Review 134:Pretty good location. Ask for view of mountains and lake

Review 135:I had booked for a late check out at 12 and the house keeping team kept on knocking at my door twice and then at 1140 one of them knocked and then walked into the room!!!

Review 136:I found the reception and kitchen staff friendly and helpful

Review 137:The bed wasn't comfortable, too soft. Walls too thin, could hear others clearly so kept awake and woken early.

Review 138:We loved the location with wonderful lake view. A quick walk to town centre.
