Reviews for SKYCITY Hotel Auckland
Review 1:double beds were small and not very comfortable
Review 2:Location is excellent accessible to shopping, food, public transport, sightseeing etc. Skytower view of Auckland was priceless.
Review 3:The hotel has limited options for kids with no pool or spa pool. I was least impressed with the preferential treatment of Asian guests who were invited to jump the queue at checkout while the rest of us lined up and waited our turn.
Review 4:Perfect inner city location with easy access to the entertainment hub of Auckland. Fresh, roomy, modern decor with a classic spin. Huge array of dining options literally at the front door and nearby. Reasonable parking fees. Despite being inner city, rooms were peacefully quiet and very relaxing after a day of travelling. All they needed was a bath and I would have been in heaven.
Review 5:Shower was making a funny sound. You have to go up to two lefts to get to your room. Parking was to expensive have to pay everytime you take your car out.
Review 6:It had a nice big bed.
Review 7:That Sammy's kitchen and bar closed early now. Also that the rooms were cleaned in the afternoon and not the morning.
Review 8:Loved how our room was connected to the smokers courtyard.also loved how clean every where was even with renovations going on.
Review 9:The staff member that parked the car smoked a cigarette in my vehicle. I'm a non smoker and my car smelt of smoke. Unhappy about that.
Review 10:Everything was excellent very happy with our stay at the sky city auckland
Review 11:If im being picky, The bathtub was not very clean and the shower pressure was not that great. The key cards were annoying in the elevators it took 10 minutes one time to get up to our floor as the card wouldn't work and we kept going to floors that other people were entering the elevator from
Review 12:The staff were very friendly, efficiant and polite. I was amazed at the service we received. 100/100 to the receptionist. :)
Review 13:Initially given the wrong room, first staff member expected us to return to the room ourselves and collect our bags and take them to another room ourselves. A second staff member came forward and offered to have the bags moved for us.
Review 14:Very nice room, comfortable bed
Review 15:room too far from lift credit card requirement restrictive informed that mini bar to be checked first when booking out
Review 16:comfortable room on booking out I was asked if anything taken from minibar no check was made, my word was enough very helpful concierge service on arrival
Review 17:Only check-out wait, however that is due to the amount of people checking out at the same time. So no problem at all.
Review 18:The service was great. Late check-out is awesome. The facility was top marks
Review 19:We loved everything, the staff were all so helpful and friendly. Everything was there in one place. Plenty of places to choose to eat or have a drink.
Review 20:The construction area was a bother as we didn't get to see the beauty of the inside.
Review 21:Super friendly efficient staff, hustle and bustle of the city right outside, comfortable beds and speedy service.
Review 22:As a rule the staff, particulalry concierge, were outstanding, showcasing all that is good about service in NZ, but it was not consistent. Particulalry so, later in the evening when the staff numbers in the hotel appeared to be very low. At one point the concierge desk and the main desk was being run by one person.
Review 23:Great location and attaching restaurants. Good size rooms
Review 24:I didn't have any bad experience there at all.
Review 25:Overall the staff were very helpful and prompt, the room is quite spacious and the location is really convenience
Review 26:Had a one night stop over as our last night in New Zealand. The hotel has a great location, perfect for our needs....although i am basing this on a very short stay. Staff were great, very friendly & helpful throughout and it was no trouble to leave our luggage at the hotel all day after we had checked out.
Review 27:All the renovations that was happening. The club was booked out both nights we were there so required an entry fee so didn't experience the club there. When I did book the room few months ago, it did state city view but when we entered the room it was a view of a courtyard which was disappointing.
Review 28:Sky City was very central. Everything was walking distance. The hotel room itself was great as I've stayed there before previously when I was young and I was with my family but this time was with friends. The staff were all helpful and very friendly! Handy having free wifi also as other hotels you have to pay for.
Review 29:One day we took lunch. Didn't like it. No enough variety. On taking shuttle in airport we were said that no our booking found but they will accommodate us. We booked two month in advance through booking.com.
Review 30:The stuff is very friendly. Good breakfast. Location is easy.
Review 31:Lights above our beds were not working they said they would fix them the next day and this did not happen. Also we purchased movies pack but could hardly watch them as had a bad connection got our money back but as it was our first night I thought that it would get fixed it didnt
Review 32:Close to everything walk distance to the Viaduct.
Review 33:Couldn't adjust room temp as this was hot and stuffy. The air conditioner was loud and I think broken.
Review 34:The staff were very helpful and friendly. Good location.
Review 35:Thought the alterations going on could reflect in costs...room 190 was too far away from lifts for husband with walking stick...view room window was of building roof..doorstop caused a lot of tripping and sore toes, should be different colour
Review 36:Close to city and easy parking...liked the 11am check out
Review 37:No bad experience at all
Review 38:The room was clean and tidy and although there were others occupying other rooms, we found the rooms very sound-proof. Also the ladies who were in the corridor to start cleaning the rooms said 'Good Morning' before we could say it. Other hotels we've stayed in, they just ignore or don't even smile.
Review 39:price of room. average facilities for premium rates. totally over priced. We booked room 6 months out. And due to a concert in town the room rate increased over 100%
Review 40:location
Review 41:Too many tour groups crowded in small reception area. Facilities in room bit old
Review 42:Location , value for money, Free WiFi, friendly staff, spacious common area upstairs
Review 43:the staff of reservation or reception muddle the reserved rooms account from 6 rooms to 3 rooms. the booking's order is 6 rooms, the reception insisted 3 rooms only when we check in on 19 Nov 2015.
Review 44:I expected something quite special for $500 room. From our expereince that type of room is between $200-350, so quite dissapointed. There was not even robes provided.....
Review 45:This is not really a dislike. After our first night our room wasn't cleaned somehow. we had put "do not disturb" tag the night before cos we were sleeping in but when we left the room at 11am, we put the "pls clean room" tag. When we returned at 4 pm, it wasn't cleaned yet. Later at about 5, someone came to ask if we needed fresh towels etc, so they knew the room wasn't cleaned. Anyway no problem, we are clean people, haha, so the room was still clean.
Review 46:We stayed three nights Location fantastic Staff helpful friendly knowledgeable Rooms pristine Quiet rooms Big and Comfortable beds Air conditioning could auto switch to heater too. Cool. There's some renovation going on downstairs, but it was well managed.
Review 47:The staff treated my group and I like children (I am 27 and my group were all in their 20's too). They looked down on us and were not overly helpful forwards us. We were asked and called multiple times to complete payments that had already been taken care of. It was all just handled really badly.
Review 48:After the jackhammers started I spoke to concierge who were very rude - on checkout I was offered 20 per cent off...
Review 49:Leaving. Jackhammers started at 5am waking me up
Review 50:Nothing
Review 51:Location is best. Casino in hotel and tower next door saves a lot on travel cost otherwise. Staff helped us a lot with weighign our luggage as we were flying next day, to make sure we were not going to be charged at airport. Good food places around. Room was good for family of 4
Review 52:that guests still have to pay parking fee(very discounted price but i still feel hotel guests should be free)
Review 53:location and price. That the room temp can be adjustable.
Review 54:major renovations going on at the time, it was noisy and could hear them at midnight in our room...we were not notified of the renovation on booking. We were also charged for room service which was not ours (this was refunded tho)
Review 55:Good location and good room facilities.
Review 56:That there weren't enough clubs like club 21. Need more so people have a variety to pick from & enjoy the entertainment & dancing.
Review 57:The hospitality of the staff. The cleaning staff deserve two thumbs up for a great job of keeping rooms in tip top shape.
Review 58:The lobby is very hard to find,no reception people on valet parking, many people walk around the valet parking place, no free parking provided
Review 59:Location is good
Review 60:the service at the canteen was actually quite poor there is this one lady that has been there for years she is an islander she needs to go for people skills training I found her very rude there is no need for that. Check in staff at reception the Asian guys I also found them very rude, Question when booking for a room on the form they ask you what is your eta to the hotel then you tell them you arrive at so and so time hopefully when you arrive there is a room waiting for you I know check in is at 3pm but it still does not take 6 to 8 hour before they take you to your room. There is one gentlemen there he is Maori and he has help us both times in trying to get a room for us so we can rest. He deserves a gold medal I cant recall his name and on both occasion this year and last year he helped us out. I wish I could recall his name and I have offer for him whenever he comes to Rarotonga I will take him under my care and treat him like royalty. Apart from that is was a great holiday but we are still considering whether we will come back to Sky City, This trip we spend 6 days the trip before 4days and a few years ago we travel quite frequently to sky city.
Review 61:it was convenient for us as we don't drive while in Auckland so the shop were walking distance. The rooms were execellent. The cleaners were absolutely nice. I am in the tourism business and I know how and what it is like.
Review 62:my friend and I had lunch in one of your restaurants, we send the first attempt back, meat was tough vegetables cold, their second attempt was no better, we paid but did not eat our meals, very disappointed
Review 63:Rooms very well appointed and clean
Review 64:Check-out was an in-efficient process as had to wait about 20-25 minutes at reception while staff checked minibar (along with about 10 other people waiting for the same to be done). There must be a better more efficient way of organising check-out.
Review 65:Clean and comfortable. Great location.
Review 66:Pleasant rooms with excellent internet access, sufficient amenities. Hotel is close to (walking distance) excellent restaurants, entertainment areas. Parking was a major plus.
Review 67:Parking. We self parked and when we left the parking garage the ticket was $75.00! I took it to the garage manager and he reduced it to $20.00. But that being said, there's really no direction from the hotel as to where you should be parking. They do offer valet parking at $40 a day.
Review 68:I liked the fact that you could stay within the hotel complex for restaurants and the casino.
Review 69:Casino did not have enough tables to play with a smaller money value e.g. 3 card poker smallest bet was $10 a hand also a lot of the poker machines we felt were dated
Review 70:When we arrived we got up graded which we think was value for the money we paid
Review 71:Massive renovation works going on. Booking.com did not make us aware of this. Sky city advised they knew of this but did not make us aware on booking. Even earplugs were handed out by staff members.
Review 72:The food in the buffet breakfast, although initially excellent, became old and tired by eight o'clock with rubbery eggs and biscuit like pancakes, to the extent that we stopped using it.
Review 73:The hotel was quiet with everything that we could want, and the staff could not possibly have been more friendly or helpful
Review 74:No negatives came up.
Review 75:Location is fantastic to walk all about Auckland. Easy to find your way to and the casino and bungee always made for something interesting happening even tho I did not partake in either.
Review 76:great stay walked to Vectra arena for concert. Hotel was central, great resturants. parking made easy and great reception staff. We hope to return soon thanks
Review 77:Didn't know prior to booking that renovations in the lobby were taking place, hard to tell where to go, didn't end up going into the casino itself as it wasn't clear or inviting enough to explore the complex.
Review 78:Our room was nice and clean. Expensive for no view but adequate for our stay.
Review 79:Confusing knowing what level/restaurants you can access especially when your tired from long queues and flight. Obviously building work in foyer not good.
Review 80:Liked the view of courtyard.
Review 81:Getting used to the two lift systems, but understand for security ofhotel guests.
Review 82:Quick check ins and check outs, as there were several staff on. Theconvenient car park and $ 20.00 parking voucher. Wide and high accessways to the rooms with walls of windows were possible..
Review 83:I found the room decor a little tired and drab. The foyer gave the impression of a building site. The WiFi in the room was a bit patchy on one of the 3 days I stayed.
Review 84:Excellent central city location with Intercity Bus Terminal adjacent and Airport Bus Stop and Auckland's main shopping street just a short walk away. Reception and Concierge staff were friendly and helpful. The room was pleasantly quiet notwithstanding the central location. I was also pleased about the large size of the room.
Review 85:make sure you ask for a king bed if you want one at reservation otherwise system gives you twin singles. happened to us and friends and front office blamed booking.com. staff were able to change rooms for us but if hotel is full this may be a problem.
Review 86:well located in the city and walkable to all we wanted to see and do. very clean.
Review 87:Rang three times from 3.45 till 5.30 for extra milk. Finally arrived at 5.45. Staff person who checked us in obviously didn't want to be there.
Review 88:The refurbished rooms are nice. Beds comfortable. Location was great for where we were going
Review 89:I went to a conference at Sky city. The accommodation was just across a bridge. Excellent. So close and convenient. Conference centre was superb also.
Review 90:No help with our luggage to our room when we arrived. When I asked that my swipe card was not working to get down through the lift from the foyer of the hotel to the casino and all I was told is to use the stairs. Otherwise someone can help me to access the lift to check what was wrong to my room access card. On the last day I have booked and paid for a shuttle to the airport on 1/11/15 at 4pm and on arrival to pick up our bags to be picked up. We thought we could bepicked up infront of the casino but being told unhelpfull to take our bags and walk across the street to catch the shuttle from some places. Anyway a lovely porter heard us and told us to wait right infront of the casino and he will get the shuttle to come and pick us up there. The lady and a young guy in the front area where you picked up our bags didn't have any customers services
Review 91:Easy access to the fun for playing in the casino any time
Review 92:With the Parking we came through the casino as we didn't realise so was a bit confusing. And unfortunate their was a bit of renovations going on at the time
Review 93:Easy access to get to great restaurants around us! Comfortable beds!
Review 94:There are too many homeless people right outside the hotel. It doesn't feel safe when you're walking outside. Sky city need to do something about this.
Review 95:We had a problem with a porter leaving someone's luggage in our room and the service from the duty manager was fantastic.
Review 96:A surcharge of 2% on all credit and foreign debit cards is a rip off. The quoted prices should be raised by 2% so that they are not deceptive.
Review 97:An excellent location from which to visit the sky tower. We greatly enjoyed our meal in the revolving restaurant and the view of Auckland.
Review 98:Parking was a bit confusing as was trying to find the place. But still it was ok.
Review 99:I liked how comfortable it was. A very nice place to stay and lots of friendly staff. Full of night life and entertainment. You will never get bored.
Review 100:the bed was the most uncomfortable that we have ever slept in and we have slept in a lot all over the world
Review 101:loved the location, services, restaurant and staff all great.
Review 102:Not applicable.
Review 103:Personalised service was excellent, made to feel welcome and looked after throughout entire stay. Absolutely loved every minute.. Thank you Sky City for a memorable stay.
Review 104:The shower the head needed some attention I could not move it. It needed to face out rather then facing down.
Review 105:COMFORTABLE BEDS.Location of Hotel and discount if you are Casino card holder.
Review 106:The room was a bit cramped and old bathroom facilities, small bathroom, mold on the shower/bath glass panel
Review 107:Location, provision of toiletries, and hallway decore/ chairs/lamps etc. Views
Review 108:Would like to have more bathroom amenities eg shower cap etc. Some china required in room. Option of delivery of newspaper to room.
Review 109:Staff very pleasant and helpful. Rooms comfortable and spacious. Central to all city concert venues.
Review 110:For the price I paid, I did not expect to see yellow stains on bath and stains around edges of bathroom floor. There was no green tea in selection.
Review 111:I stayed in room 188. The bed was very comfortable. Had lunch at Rebos, delicious.
Review 112:The room needed a good clean, everything (particularly the bathroom) needed a good wipe down as built up grime evident on all the fittings, tiles and door.
Review 113:Good location. Nice quiet rooms with comfortable beds.
Review 114:Concierge was a little abrupt and rude. The added request I asked for was not done again. It takes a while for them to answer the phone
Review 115:Great location, fantastic service, perfect for what I need
Review 116:As usual, the parking. Air conditioning seemed pre-set and was difficult to change, but helpful staff seemed happy to assist.
Review 117:Upgraded to a suite, thanks.
Review 118:Renovations continued into evening making dinning difficult - dust, noise etc
Review 119:Responsiveness at short notice. the systems in place in respond to requests at short notice in a professional manner.
Review 120:Unless you're on high floors the views are rubbish and when we did accidentally go to Horizon on Eight we were told in no uncertain terms that it was a private floor
Review 121:Dead easy for going to Sky City theatre - our reason for staying
Review 122:have stayed many times and staff just seem to get better and better. Sky TV very limited channels, esp as so many accomodation options are now offering the 50 channels, if they has this would be excellent
Review 123:staff all we encountered were excellent room - right by the lifts, seemed larger than the normal ones with an excellent view, we hadnt asked for anything specific so were thrilled when got this room. Room service, quick, presented very nicely and tasty, also troley whenb left outside room was collected quickly ie next time we went out to go to our show, trolley had gone. Beds excellent, had just been travelling for 10 days staying in 5 hotels and these beds best - sorry holiday inn wins on pillows but sky city a close second. Wifi excellent signal
Review 124:The waitress in the ground floor restaurnt was most unhelpfull while we were waiting for our taxi we requested two beers a glass of wine and a brandy and ice. She told us that sha could not accomadsye us withib th 15 minute time frame it took the intervention of the Manager. The waitresses manner was then very rude delivering our order. This is not up to the standard of service we have experinced on ptrvois stays.
Review 125:The middle aged Moari gentlmen who greeted us on our arrival on the forecourt arranged the Valet parking of our vrhicle, delivered our bags to our room and arranged for a taci that evening possesses excellent people skills snf provided excrptional customer service unfortunatly I have forgotten his name but he id originally from gisbourn.
Review 126:Having been told that a sparkling bottle of water was used from the fridge and that we had to pay for, when we didn't touch anything from the mini bar or fridge.
Review 127:Location, Variety of restaurants.
Review 128:To have a male tramp off Queen Street entering the ground floor toilets without being challenged by concierge or security. Not acceptable for 5star hotel. Tried to book a room 1 week later--would have thought a reduced tariff would have been acceptable so Not rebooked for further nights as overall too expensive. Parking too confusing even with search screens
Review 129:Very comfortable beds. Quiet rooms
Review 130:Being told on payment of the bill that they had varying rates per night dependant on their occupancy. This increased my tariff by $120 per night for three out of the five nights I was there. I did not pay this as I had not been informed of this process when booking on your site OR on checking in and I challenged it. This is not ok and I would not have stayed there had I known this previously.
Review 131:The convenient location.
Review 132:We stayed here for a night and it was a pleasant stay. Ideal for couples wanting to spend a night in Auckland City to enjoy the Casino and night life.
Review 133:I was interested to watch major European soccer like English Premier League, Spanish league but unfortunately it was not available in that hotels pay channels which was very disappointing for me. I had opportunity to talk some of the visitors there from overseas they also expressed the same feeling like mine.
Review 134:The location was very handy...close to all amenities.
Review 135:Staff response to a request to open my safe took over an hour.
Review 136:Excellent facilities and great service. Central location to public transport and tourist attractions.
Review 137:The hotel is undergoing maintenance right now, and it was very noisy inour room on h1 level. If I had known in advance, I would have requesteda much higher room number.
Review 138:The staff here is absolute amazing. They were able to get us in early toour room as we were relocating to nz and were traveling with over 14pieces of luggage with 2 small children. The buffet was easy and gavethe kids a wide choice of variety in a new spot. The hotel is close toeverything. No car needed!!
Review 139:Staff need to explain how to use cards in lifts....i spoke to 2 other guests who had difficulty working it out as we did...
Review 140:Location plus comfort of room/beds..
The Fine Print
