Reviews for Waldhotel Sonnenberg

Review 1:The staff was not very accommodating, they were nicer to German speaking customers. The breakfast buffet lacked fresh vegetables. We expected a more extensive breakfast from a hotel in this price range. All in all we had a nice time but we left with a feeling that the price was not in line with what we got.

Review 2:The short hiking trail behind the hotel was nice. The view on the valley is definitely the strength of the place, so was the indoor pool with a view!

Review 3:I wished the WiFi is faster and consistent without frequent log in, also two pillows should be in each bed

Review 4:Excellent location with good views and excellent trekking from the hotel, excellent breakfast, we loved the quality German bread

Review 5:The room didn't match the description of the one we booked, it was very tired with stains on the carpet and the balcony was cut out of the roof and filthy with moss growing. The staff were stand-offish. The salad bar was almost empty for the evening meal.

Review 6:The view at the front of the hotel was fantastic. There was a large choice for breakfast. The evening meal was okay.

Review 7:Lovely position up on the hill with wonderful views down the valley. We had a large room with a balcony where we could sit after dinner and watch the sun go down. Well laid out bathroom. Staff were helpful and the food was delicious. Lots of parking. I would definitely return for a longer stay.

Review 8:Rooms could use a little refurbishment and could be equipped with quieter fridges.

Review 9:Excellent location for hiking, biking and exploring the Sauer valley but also venturing further afield to Luxembourg and Trier. Lovely views from room. Top notch restaurant offering very good value for money. Ample breakfast and friendly staff.

Review 10:Walls are thin. One can hear almost everything from neighbouring rooms. When we stayed there was a sick child next to us who was crying and coughing all night long so that we could not sleep at all....

Review 11:Nice location. Wonderfull views. Very good breakfast. Great swimming pool and sauna.

Review 12:A bit hard to find. Our GPS sent me up two wrong roads. We then followed signs, but got lost a bit again. It's probably not that hard to find, I just didn't find it quickly.

Review 13:Location, at the edge of the woods with guided walking routes. The pool was heated. Great views. You should stay for vacation. One day not enough

Review 14:We stayed for dinner and that was a mistake. The restaurant is beautiful overlooking the valley but the food is very standard with French fries from the deep freezer.

Review 15:The room, very large and balcony overviewing the valley. Luxemburg is only at 5 minutes by car. The breakfast is good.

Review 16:1980s decor. Couldn't find entrance to pool - looked closed off - not really a big problem.

Review 17:Lovely hotel and surroundings. Food and service good. Mountain view.

Review 18:Wanting to charge me extra for a room looking over car park to watch my vehicle! Even though I'm a returning guest so will be looking elsewhere in future.

Review 19:Location, friendly owners.

Review 20:Could do with air conditioning in summer as rooms are very hot n stuffy. In spite of booking.com quoting 16 euro for an extra bed for our kid, we were charged 35 by the hotel! Reason cited: "all prices cannot be communicated on booking.com". That was most unfair! At breakfast there were flies happily swarming the cold cuts.

Review 21:Location is excellent overlooking the valley and hiking routes just behind. Spacious rooms and balcony.

Review 22:Nice views, great staff, excellent place for walking

Review 23:interieur kamer is aan vernieuwing toe

Review 24:ligging, uitzicht Vriendelijk personeel Lekker eten voor goeie prijs Zwembad en sauna

Review 25:Internet is awful

Review 26:The view was gorgeous. The rooms spotless and I mean spotless. The breakfast was perfect. Each meal a table reserved for each guest. A super value.

Review 27:Two single beds put together.

Review 28:Everything!

Review 29:Can't think of anything negative to say

Review 30:The navigation don't know the address. Too bad,

Review 31:Location food and swimmingpool

Review 32:location and room with balcony to enjoy the view. Excellent food. lovely stay

Review 33:Were not allowed to sit at the window, to enjoy the wonderful view, as we were allocated a table towards the back of the restaurant. Non residents seemed to be able to sit at the window tables.

Review 34:Lovely location and friendly and helpful staff. Very comfortable room. Great for walking.

Review 35:Some errors made by the staff: first a wrong room was allocated, later our reserved table was given to some else.

Review 36:The nice location, large room with beautiful view on the valley. Restaurant was nice for dinner and breakfast. Excellent location for walking in the forest.

Review 37:There is really notthing that we did not like.

Review 38:The staff was very friendly and helpful. We have an 11-month old baby and everybody was kind and understanding. From the hotel you can make a nice walk in the forest and it is quick to make a trip to Echternach (L). The pool is big enough and from there we had a nice view. The restaurant is quite good. A place to come back!

Review 39:Nothing

Review 40:Staff very friendly rooms very clean staff go out there way to help you great swimming pool area, great base to visit Luxembourg nice ride there on motorcycle, very good will return next year Thank you

Review 41:starting to show it's age a bit.

Review 42:Top location. Excellent (new) sauna, nice pool. Great food. Comfi beds. Start walking trails from rear door, from short stroll to multiday hikes. If in the area, we'll be back.

Review 43:Too expensive for such an old infrastructure. the men of the family were unkind. The food.

Review 44:Proximity with a fantastic walk in the Eifel park. Swimming pool (although a bit old infrastructure). The women of the family are kind and smiling.

Review 45:The downside of the whole stay, which was to celebrate an anniversary, was the appalling service in the restaurant for our evening meal. Wewere shown to our table on the balcony……and that was it, the waiterdisappeared! There were only two waiting staff, one covering the beergarden and the waiter we had, who it turned out was evidently moreinterested in serving the large group of bikers sitting inside. Wewaited for about 20 minutes before even being asked what we would liketo drink and a further 15 minutes before the drinks arrived. Our foodorders were taken, but no wine list offered – we had to ask for that –followed by a further 30 to 40 minutes for our food to arrive. In themeantime the waiter did come and ask if I would like another beer, buteven that only arrived after my wife had gone inside to ask for it. Thefood, when was served, was pretty bland and nothing to be impressedabout (we can say this as my wife is a Chef by profession). After afurther wait we eventually managed to secure the dessert menu, but thewaiter never came back to take the order. After waiting for about 20minutes or so, my wife went inside to find him and asked if he was goingto take our order, to which he replied that he would be thereimmediately; but never came. The final straw was that after – yes, another 20 minutes or so of waiting we got up and left.In fairness they did ring the room and offer to bring dessert up at no cost to us, but by this time it was nearly 10.30 so we declined and when on checking out we mentioned it to the owner, she gave us a bottle of complementary peach schnapps. Nevertheless, it has definitely put us off staying there again.

Review 46:The location was picturesque enough with plenty of access to walking andbiking trails, or if like us you like driving, some pretty spectacularroads. The room we had was clean, albeit a little dated, with its ownbalcony overlooking the valley and town of Bollendorf. The hotelswimming pool was a welcome relief after a day’s shopping in Trier andthe restaurant has a beer garden and nice balcony on which we had ourmeal. The breakfast waitress was particularly helpful and laid up atable on the balcony on request, she also constantly checked if weneeded more coffee etc.

Review 47:Pool should be open later and earlier especially when the sun goes down at 10pm.

Review 48:Good hiking right out the back door. Nice terrace after the hike and good regional dinner.

Review 49:For the WIFI access a passcode is needed, the validity of this code appeared to be anywhere between 2-12 hours. Confusing system that doesn't work well.

Review 50:comfortable rooms, good typical German kitchen, nice assortment of breakfast items, beautiful surroundings, gorgeous views.

Review 51:almost everything

Review 52:the pool was open only until 19:00. the Wifi was very weak in the room.
