Reviews for Hotel Grainauer Hof

Review 1:It's a good walk to the train station so better to take the bus but less then 10 euro by cab.

Review 2:Everything was perfect. Booked at the last minute late and was taken care of on the spot. Stayed an additional two n8ghts. Close to downtown

Review 3:The room smelled of cigarette smoke. Parking was tight. The sauna wasn't open until 1500 and led us to believe that in any other circumstances they would have charged us for using it. It was disappointing that the staff told us they were too busy with the restaurant to service us a beer. The place looked lovely and offered many things but unfortunately it didn't all come together that weekend.

Review 4:The breakfast was delicious! Much more than we expected. Our room had a balcony. Good location and easy to find. Charming.

Review 5:early check in (1h) was not possible. With a small dog you cannot book the cheapest rate room, on top you get charged EUR 10 extra per night. This gets very expensive at the end.

Review 6:Hosts were motivated and friendly

Review 7:The pool water from the spa is a bit cold and the sauna does not work in summer, but you don't really have time to stay in the spa in such an amazing landscape with lots to do

Review 8:Hotel placed in a great, quiet place, with a beautiful view of the mountains( Zugspitze), big rooms, clean, with great beds, owner was very friendly and offered us a free upgrade on the room, good breakfast

Review 9:The hotel was far from the train station, do not suggest trying to walk there! Their "reception" hours are posted, 8:00-11:00 am and 3:00 - 7:00 pm. Even though there is a service bell, do not expect service outside of those times. My family need to check out prior to 8:00 am, so we rang the bell and got yelled at by the mistress of the house (yes! she yelled at us) because it was before 8:00 am and refused to check us out. We missed our train because the mistress of the house would not take the 3 minutes (yes I timed it) to check us out. Guess the service bell is there for looks. If you are not looking for customer service, the area is nice, but not close to Garmisch proper.

Review 10:The view from the room was beautiful. The town of Grainau, where the hotel is located, is beautiful and picturesque. The indoor pool is small but nice.

Review 11:No complaints really as my stay there was everything I needed and more

Review 12:Good location for access to Garmish, or the Zugspitze mountain paths. Friendly couple run cozy hotel, with good brwakfast & welcoming atmosphere.

Review 13:Very limited parking. Small breakfast without many options. Rooms overlooking the road can be loud because of road traffic.

Review 14:Great location. Mountain view rooms have a nice balcony overlooking the mountains.

Review 15:Nothing. Everything was great.

Review 16:Best breakfast of all hotels we stayed at in Germany and Italy. Lovely rooms and great pool and Sauna. Hotel has a 4-course dinner available for only 16 Euro per person while we were there. We ate the dinner and it was amazing. I would love to stay here again if I am ever in the same area.

Review 17:the receptionist is not all the time there, so you have to call and wait, sometimes a bit too long.

Review 18:the swimming pool and sauna - i had it for myself and it was amazingly relaxing!

Review 19:No tea/coffee making facilities in room so had to wait for meal times. No iron or ironing board throughout stay although we were told we would get one. Parking is tight!

Review 20:The wellness suite is very nice and is open 0800-2000. Breakfast is continental and offers fried or scrambled eggs to order although there is no other hot accompaniment such as sausage/bacon on offer. Italian waitress at Breakfast was very pleasant.

Review 21:Guests generally need a car to get into Grainau or to the slopes. Otherwise the bus has to take you into the Garmisch train station and connect to the ski train which stops at the slopes.

Review 22:Very comfortable clean, well-appointed room--mine had a good view. Breakfast was excellent. Lovely bar and dinner service was also available.

Review 23:I cannot find anything bad to say, so I will continue to pile on the positives. The pool was great, the arrangements for storing the skies was great, the staff were great, the location was great and the owners were just lovely! :) As they pointed out to us, just make sure to book a car for your stay. It is invaluable and without it you will easily waste time that could be spent in the slopes.

Review 24:We had practiced our German, but our hosts, who were completely lovely, spoke English as well. The service was great, with them going out of their way to help us with every aspect of our trip, from bus-schedules to car-booking to ticket-purchases, when we were lost on day one. The food is amazing as well, so make sure to get breakfast (great!) and also to book dinner at the hotel, which changes the offered dishes from day to day. The price of the four-course dinner was very reasonable and after a day on the slopes it is luxurious to have dinner waiting. Especially since it was so good! :) I seriously doubt you could find a better deal. Value A++!

Review 25:To keep the Wi-Fi free and accessible for all, they had to limit the use a little. Not a problem for me, but had to log-in frequently.

Review 26:Great wellness facility and very hospitable host. View from the place is magnificent.

Review 27:Mr and Mrs Varnhorn are very kind and helpful hosts. They made sure we had a lovely care-free vacation. With a breakfast buffet and a reasonably priced dinner, we were happy and fed. The bus stops right in front of the hotel, which would take us to the surrounding towns and skiing sites.

Review 28:The hotel is family-friendly but maybe not as suitable for very small, busy kids. We have a 5 and a 1-year-old. We felt a little self-conscious when they made noise; most of the guests were couples and older adults who seemed less than enthused with little ones around. Parking was a little dicey. Admittedly we drove in during a snowstorm but we weren't able to fit our standard Euro-sized BMW into one of the last two parking spaces in the Parkplatz. We did find a spot down the hill.

Review 29:The hotel was immaculately clean. We have a fairly low tolerance for dirt and this place would've passed a white glove inspection. The breakfast buffet was delicious...cheeses, pastries, breads, fruit. Dinner was lovely, too. We have two very small children. When they wouldn't sit through dinner, they gladly let one of us eat in the room. We are English speakers. We were easily able to converse with the staff.

Review 30:The wifi didn't even work in the public places on my computer. Ideally, one wouldn't need to worry about that in such a lovely, mountain setting, but some of us can only travel if we can bring work with.

Review 31:It was quiet, but not too far from everything (the towns are so small that it's easy to get around by bike, on foot, etc.), the bus also stops right outside the front door. Friendly, helpful staff. It's no 5 star resort, but it's clean and a great value.

Review 32:Great food! Breakfast selection was great. Dinner is a good value for the quality - food was EXCELLENT! Swimming pool and sauna was clean and enjoyable as well. Great location - near both Garmisch as well as the Zugspitze. And there is a bus stop directly in front of the hotel. Staff was super friendly! Wireless internet worked fairly well in the room as well as in the public areas.

Review 33:I have travelled a little around Europe but little did I know that Germany had such beautiful mountains...And grainu is a perfect place for hiking, trekking and mountain climbing...its lovely with a lush green forest, beautiful paths, stunning mountains..all perfect!!!

Review 34:The room we stayed needs a renovation. Bed was unconfortable. Heavy unidentified smell in the room. If the hotel is full, parking could be a problem. This was our case, but the owner was very helpful.

Review 35:Good breakfast, very good attention, and very spacious room.

Review 36:good access to Zugspitze ski area and nice pool facility. also known as fantastic dinner.

Review 37:Decor and furniture is old, needs updating. Curtains need replacing etc. and re-decorating. Room was not attractive.

Review 38:Great location. Nice, helpful staff.

Review 41:Wi-Fi could be better, but that's not a big issue

Review 59:Not enough parking for the volume of traffic.

Review 60:Nearly everything.

Review 61:I found everything very satisfactory

Review 62:Very cheap 4course evening meals were excellent value. Also excellent breakfast.

Review 63:The step down to the bathroom from the main room was a little awkward.

Review 64:Breakfast that was included in the room price was excellent. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would stay there again.

Review 65:Friendlyness of the staff was great, breakfast buffet was delicious and with a big variety, rooms were good and bathrooms very spacious. It was the perfect relaxing hotel after a day outside in the mountains. We didn't try the sauna and pool but they looked very inviting.

Review 66:Nothing -- it was great!!!!

Review 67:Best place we stayed while in Bavaria/lower Austria. Clean, comfortable rooms, great attention to detail, delicious food, and charming hosts.

Review 68:Very kind staff. Clean and comfortable penzion. Great breakfest selection. Cozy spa. Delicious home-made dinners. Excellent location for all activities in the Zugspitze region. Free parking, bus stop to Ga-Pa and Eibsee (or skibus in the ski season) just in front of the penzion, train station 400m away. Eibsee station of the cogwheel train to Zugspitze plateau & the Zugspitze cable car just 5min away by car and a litle more by public bus, ibid for Ga-Pa. Plenty opportunities for trekking.

Review 69:We spent amazing days in the Hotel Grainauer Hof for the closure of ski season. Hotel is decorated with love to every small detail, even the breakfast serving was presented in a very charming way. Owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. Dining at the hotel was nice as well, especially when sitting next to the fireplace. wi-fi worked fine, sauna and swimming pool were very nice to relax after all day skiing. Parking was available. So, in summary, we enjoyed a lot!

Review 70:Beware of the hot water in the shower. Depending on the time if someone else was using the water it was either freezing cold or burning hot.

Review 71:Great location! The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was wonderful. There was a nice bar in the hotel. Ski/boot storage available. The welcomed our small dog for a small fee. Great view of the mountains. A wonderful place to get away for the weekend.

Review 72:The room was comfortable and as described on the website. We stayed here as a quieter / cheaper alternative to Garmisch. Wifi signal did not reach the room which was dissapointing

Review 73:orientation to customer needs. I was participating in ULTRA run that started early in the morning and in was nice that breakfast was proposed at very early time.

Review 74:Stairs and lack of help with our luggage

Review 75:Cleanliness, Sumptuous Breakfast.

Review 76:Dramatic location at the base of Germany's tallest mountain. Nice owners, great breakfast.

Review 77:Friendly staff, Excellent swimming pool and sauna, clean rooms.

Review 78:Freshly renovated room, Clean indoor swiming pool with sauna Very friendly & helpful staffs

Review 79:Wifi did not reach the room Low water pressure on the shower

Review 80:Friendly staff Nice breakfast

Review 81:Just great!

Review 82:The view of the Alps was gorgeous from our room, which had an enclosed patio. Also, the spa area was well kept, relaxing and inviting.

Review 83:no elevator
