Reviews for Hotel Edelweiss

Review 1:We just loved how hospitable the owners and staff were. They were without a doubt the most friendly and helpful hosts we have ever met in all of our travels.

Review 2:New year eve party since food and animation were average for the price.

Review 3:Cosy atmosphere, great outdoor jacuzzi, nice personnel, good breakfast, location. We felt good in this hotel.

Review 4:Susanne, the Manager, is fantastic. Very friendly and service oriented. She went out of her way to be helpful. We also enjoyed a nighttime excursion they organized up the mountain with a traditional dinner and walk back by torchlight.

Review 5:no double bed, small tub in bath that you can't get shower without touching to shower curtain. No fridge or table in the room and not any refreshment ( tea or coffee).

Review 6:location,staff & service

Review 7:Just that we specifically mentioned we have one baby travelling with us but they disallowed us a babycot. The time we went, there was a problem with their system. So, wrong info was given and delays happened.

Review 8:Love the place. It feels like we're staying in a lovely 100yr old house. Love the deco. Love the classical feel. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 9:The bed mattresses are too soft and there is a sign in the toilettes warning for potential damage charges of 200 Euros.

Review 10:The corner rooms are comfortable for a family of 4 and offer great views to the valley. There are all the necessary services for a nice ski holiday like ski room, shuttle bus, parking in front of the hotel, etc.

Review 11:The owners are very accommodative and make you feel home The property has all the important ammenitiws which one looks at a 3-4 star property. I loved the view of the Titlis Alps from the rooms.

Review 12:THe staff, facility, location everything is superb, they have a pick up and drop facility since the location is a little uphill , so tuff to carry luggage , make sure u call dem from the station. And dey will arrange a pick up also

Review 13:The walls were very thin and I could hear people above me and either side of me which made it difficult to sleep.

Review 14:Lovely hotel in the centre of Engelberg. Fantastic views from the large balconies. Hot tub on the terrace was amazing! Great breakfast and very friendly staff. Good, spacious, clean rooms.

Review 15:A truly wonderful place to stay. The staff were very friendly and always happy to assist. We were even picked up and dropped off at the train station to avoid pulling heavy luggage up the hill. A very memorable stay, thank you.

Review 16:From the beginning to the end, this place, the people , the service was top class. Amazing family atmosphere and the kinndness of the hosts and all staff was exceptional.

Review 17:Old Furniture, a lot of people drink wine in everywhere in the hole day morning ,afternoon and midnight , it's very strange thing !!

Review 18:Value for money is good, hotel is little bit old.

Review 19:The hotel has an old history, but it requires some renovation. The overall comfort in the rooms was relatively low, when compared with the costs.

Review 20:Engelberg is a superb Alpine destination. The mountain view from the Hotel was great

Review 21:There was a lot to dislike. Owner hugely unfriendly - there was amistake in booking and according to her it was all my fault. She beganher rudeness as we walked through the door. There were no toiletries inthe bathroom - not even a bar of soap - only a message saying thatguests would be fined sfr200 if there was water on the bathroom floor orif swimming costumes were hung up to dry in the room. There was a kettlebut no tea, coffee, milk or cups - only (another) sign threateningguests not to make or consume food in the room. By the way thethreatening signs were only in English! The room looked like ithadn't been decorated since the 70's - it had a light fittingthat my 98 year old mother in law had had in her living room sinceI've known her. And breakfast was like a scene from Fawlty Towers. We were not allowed to sit where we wanted - next to the window with thebeautiful view - despite all the tables being empty. They were all"reserved". We had to sit as far away from the view aspossible - on the naughty table! Our room number was sellotaped to thetable to make sure we sat there! The best bit? When the guests arrivedwho were allowed to sit next to the view did sit down, one Japanesefamily decided that the sunlight was too strong and pulled the blindsand curtain shut so no one could see the view!! It would have beenfunnier if we had watched this all on television rather than having topay through the nose for the experience.

Review 22:The one thing that was great was lying in the hot tub on the terrace inthe early evening looking at the stunning view of the Alps. Amazing.

Review 23:No regrets at all

Review 24:The ambience of the Hotel is really excellent and we get a personalized service from all staff including the owners which has flattened us and especially Mr.Felix he was so helpful and took the pain to drop in his personal car when we informed that our train was about to start in another 10 minutes. This type of attitude will create an impression and we shall remember and cherish this always

Review 25:This hotel is fantastic and incredibly comfortable. The host, Suzanne, goes out of her way to provide assistance and ensure your stay is wonderful. Her knowledge of the area is first class. We had to leave early (6.30am) and she got up to provide breakfast and coffee and then drove us to the station as it was raining. When I called her a short time later (as the trains were not running) she arranged a taxi so that we could get to Lucerne to meet our connection. The rooms and views and facilities (and hot tub!) are excellent. I hope that we return and we will certainly look no further than Edelweiss. Thanks again.

Review 26:Staff and owner were very helpful. Arrived late due to missing train and Felix was particularly helpful, allowing my family to eat in town before being picked up. Hotel has a lot of character and dates back to 1904. Great mountain views from balcony.

Review 27:In all my trip in Sweiss, it is the only hotel that retired the amount of the night from my card before I did the check-out... very weird.

Review 28:Nice big hotel but with familiar treatment and very nice staff. If you arrive late and don't want to walk, its buffet dinner is very recommended as probably it is the best option in the town.

Review 29:The price. Having said that it is a Switzerland problem with the strong currency. Very few things are cheap in Switzerland.

Review 30:Very friendly and helpful staff. Nothing we asked was to much. We were also given a free upgrade on our room.

Review 31:Carrying luggage up stairs Small room, no sitting space Reception should have explained wifi not working well in corner room High price for off season

Review 32:Friendliness of staff, breakfast View

Review 33:The staff was incredibly friendly and made us feel so welcome in their lovely property. They even arranged to pick us up after a long day of hiking. The hotel has a wonderful view of the town and the surrounding mountains. Loved sitting on the private terraces that let you soak up the magic of Engelberg. Nice breakfast, too. We look forward to a return visit.

Review 34:Loved the old world charm, large family room was fantastic, wonderful views, good breakfast, helpful staff. If you are arriving by train, call 5 minutes before you arrive and they will pick you up with their shuttle service. The small pool on the terrace is wonderful!!!! Very happy, would highly recommend.

Review 35:Its a bit far from railway station and involves climbing up a small switch back, so people just take note of this though the hotel arranges for pick up if you inform them (just confirm)

Review 36:The property architecture is very beautiful. The staff is amazingly helpful. I got upgraded to a big room whose balcony opened to beautiful views of mountains. The breakfast is decent and helps in a expensive place like swiss. Would recomend

Review 37:Carpet is a bit old.

Review 38:Owner are taking care of the business operation. They really care about you individually. Staffs are experience and helpful. Location was not a problem to go to ski. The Hotel van is very convenient. Only take 5 mins to the chair lift. Hot water is also great.

Review 39:Room size was too small for a family of 2 adults and 2 kids. kids bunkbeds were almost a forcefit into a double room. No tea/coffee in the room, which is unusual. Breakfast spread was limited.

Review 40:Friendly staff, excellent views.

Review 41:Prices bite on everything due to Swiss franc vs euro this spring, so the hotel may be busier when the ratio becomes more adequate.

Review 42:Hotel values its 110 years of history, and this is the most important feature all throughout the facility. The owners are present and service is very personal.

Review 43:Nothing at all.

Review 44:Incredibly friendly and helpful staff, really nice, relaxed atmosphere and very comfortable throughout. Didn't have kids in tow on this trip but would definitely return with young children as they are especially well catered for. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts, can't recommend Eidelweiss highly enough.

Review 45:a bit off the center so for ski inc rental etc dependent of the shuttles operated by the owners, you cannot use engelberg's free ski bus service. however the shuttles were very convenient and frequent enough.

Review 46:the owners are great good facilities and the kids loved it

Review 47:The walls were very thin and you can hear easily into the room next door.

Review 48:Amazing staff, very helpful. The evening babysitting and playrooms were great to keep our 3 year old hyperactive toddler busy

Review 49:Nothing bad! Everything was excellent! Thank you Susanne, Peter & the rest of the staff.

Review 50:The best hotel staff we have ever met, incredible friendly and helpful. The lovely owners Susanne & Peter are very hands-on, driving guests to the slopes, feeding the fish tank with the children, arranging activities, movie nights, saying hi to every guest at breakfast etc.

Review 51:Rooms are a little dated but clean and well kept. Hotel up a hill which can be slippy!

Review 52:Old worldly, friendly helpful staff, hot tub, lifts to ski lifts and train station etc

Review 53:The hotel location is perfect! It has an amazing view from the rooms and from the breakfast room. There is a dining room and lounge area with a fireplace, ideal for warm nights after the cold day-excursions in the surrounding mountains. The room was warm, spacious and very clean. The staff was very friendly, helpful and very pleasant people! A big advantage is the outdoor jacuzzi on the balcony - a must do! :) Thank you very muh Edelweiss, we will be back!

Review 54:The million dollar view from hotel room balcony. Just like the one from a postcard. Friendly management who will go out of their way to make your stay comfortable - Even picking you up and dropping you off at train station.

Review 55:Staffs are very nice and friendly. We have a room with moutain view and balcony. The room is spacious. The breakfast is good. We'll come back there again for sure when we get back to Engelberg!!

Review 56:The rooms seemed to have very thin walls however it is part of staying in a very relaxed family environment.Decor is basic but comfortable.

Review 57:We were 2 families travelling together for a ski week. We arrived to a few days incredibly thick snow which was no trouble for the hotel. A free daily shuttle service to the slopes was greatly appreciated. The staff are all above friendly and nothing at all is too much trouble. The feeling in the hotel is very relaxed and friendly and guests are all very friendly in the bar area etc which is lovely. The children were even allowed to go in the hot tub too.The food is tasty and very fresh and the New Year menu and evening was very special.

Review 58:All good in this hotel.

Review 59:The hotel staff have a unique way of making YOU feel special. The food was excellent. The hotel is in an excellent location with many in-house activities for adults and children. Very reasonable price, cheaper than a similar hotel the the UK.

Review 60:The infrastructure seems pretty old, especially the (tiny) sauna could use a renovation. The hotel provides special facilities for kids, so if you are a couple without kids - I would recommend another hotel - there are a lot of kids and they are noisy. The ski bus was only available to get to the lift - not to get back to the hotel - we were told to take the bus - and since the hotel is on a hill, we had to climb it with all the gear.

Review 61:The hotel is close to the center of the village, the ski room is nice and well-heated.

Review 62:It was difficult to get uphill with luggage (too close from station for taxi), a bit pricy for low season (a bit lower price could attract more guests), no meals available(during off season)

Review 63:Excellent View from room, very helpfu n friendly staff, nice n cosy environment.

Review 64:The hotel has an excellent location which looks over the mountain. Just 15' from the Titlis cable car station and 5' from the Kloster monastery. The staff is very friendly.

Review 65:Nothing

Review 66:The hotel is fantastic. The view from our room is mindblowing. The owners of the hotels as well as the staff was extremely helpful and the hospitality was extra ordinary.Must stay in Engelberg.

Review 67:Room amenities were spartan, but clean and geared to sport.

Review 68:The generous old fashioned space, the generous and knowledgable staff and owners, the quality of the kitchen, breakfast and dinner which is unsurpassed in this location, sport room amenities. They could be asking much higher prices.

Review 69:Absolutely exceptional service and high quality hotel. Exceeded all our expectations. Staff addressed us by name immediately and throughout our stay. Great location. We loved our room and time there, can't wait to go back....

Review 70:Nothing except -some improvement will help for matress & Pillow quality (too soft and basic quality) -Breakfast inclued only one or two options for vegetarians (my mistake i did not mention this to staff, they might have done something about it)

Review 71:Everything -My son(8 years old) loved the kiddy facilities -Very helpful and great staff/owner. Location cannot be better -Even in rain, just go an sit in balcony or terrace, value for money.

Review 72:That we could only stay for one night!

Review 73:Friendliness of staff - hotel owners have time to speak to you and make you feel so welcome. Amazing family room with breathtaking views. Outdoor areas for children (just a shame the weather was not great when we stayed).

Review 74:Location is phenomenal. Owners are available to help and are very enthusiastic about sharing their home with you even though it a larger hotel....it gives it a guesthouse feel. Offer activities for kids and families while staying there. Trip to traditional swim meal up in mountains and hike down with torches was something to always remember. Staff very accessible and willing to go above and beyond to help. Breakfasts were lovely and was nice to have a warm options each day.

Review 75:Even on a monday, HUGE crowds going to the top of Mt. Titlis. A small price to pay for the beauty of the mountains.

Review 76:Incredible views. Wonderful owners and staff who take a personal touch just to the right level. Close to the mountains and all they have to offer in a quite traditional village. Amazing.

Review 77:Furniture is bit old fashioned and rooms and bathroom too!

Review 78:It is one of the best hotels with best staff I have ever seen! Owner Suzanne is so friendly and cooperative. She organised a wonderful birthday surprise for my son who turned 9. Hats off to all the staff at the hotel.

Review 79:The pillows are to flat and bed a bit hard. Breakfast had limited variety but I wasn't bothered.

Review 80:Excellent location worth the uphil 5mins walk. Breath taking views from the room which makes up for all the shortcomings.

Review 81:The breakfast choice was limited.

Review 82:The staff was very friendly with always a smile on their face... Helped us tremendously even though we arrived very late at night The hotel was very pretty and very well located. We enjoyed our stay

Review 83:The room was warm and didn't figure out the window shades until the next day.

Review 84:We enjoyed the excellent location... walking distance to shops and restaurants. The views from our room was exceptional. Our boys loved the activities room with XBOX and games.

Review 85:Room a bit small even for superior room.

Review 86:Very family friendly hotel. Kids loved Trampoline, x-box, fuseball options in their spare time. Location is very close to station (5-6 mins walk) though a bit uphill. Pleasantly surprised to have the owner welcome us at the station. She picked us up and also dropped us to the station on check-out, which was quite nice of her. Also helped us with any questions we had about the places to visit. Staff at hotel was also very friendly. Overall, a very good experience and would recommend for families for sure.

Review 87:Overrun with noisy and ill-behaved children. Dinner was horrendous- almost inedible food. Smells musty-mildewy. Decor is dated and depressing.

Review 88:Good wifi, friendly staff.

Review 89:Very warm and welcoming hosts, the treat you like family. This was our third stay and definitely not the last. Very family oriented.

Review 100:Hotel is in hill top, need to climb the hill.

Review 101:Mountain view from hotel, good staff and breakfast was nice.

Review 102:Up slope, tiring to walk up.

Review 103:Free transport from train station to hotel and back to station.
