Reviews for Grand City Hotel Berlin East
Review 1:not good value for the money. Firstly, I requested non smoking room. it was ok. but there was strong smoking smell in corridor. Secondly, the parking costs 10 Euros a day. but if you go to the city with your car you must pay, get exit ticket, then return back and get enter ticket again. so finally it costs more than 10 Euros a day. Thirdly, WiFi connection. it is not free, it is 5 euros a day. if you pay for two days, you get 1000 MB. So if you are watching movie for examaple, you lost your MB and finaly you got no internet at all again. like in ice age. you pay for MB. and pay very much. My recomendation - just find normal hotel with free wifi and free parking (it is really possible if you are searching carefully), and it will cost you less than this.
Review 2:I liked modern rooms in this hotel, wich is quite clean. the location is very good. there was tram station not far from the hotel.
Review 3:I did not enjoy our room. It looked outdated, the carpet and upholsteries were stained and smelled and the bathroom had a horrible odor. We also were mistreated by the staff several times during our stay.
Review 4:There was nothing specific that I actually enjoyed in the hotel.
Review 5:Very cosy and big room, pretty clean and warm, stuff is nice and educated. Just 10 minutes far from Frankfurter allee and less than 15 from Boxhagener str (Friedrichshain) and 15 from Landsberger allee S-bahn. Beds are cosy, is silence and you have privacy, bathroom clean and big. And the price is the best a bargain!!! Trully recomend it if you such for a place nearest F'shain, Kreuzberg Mitte.
Review 6:We could here everything from the next room and the hall - it was hard to fall asleep with the snoring neighbors... Hotel blocked 60 euro on our card as a guarantee without any prior notification.
Review 7:Spacious clean room, good price (we paid 94 euro for two nights).
Review 8:We had some euros on the table near the bed and when we came back it wasn't there anymore... It was just a few euros but seriously... This is just unacceptable. Then we also had a problem with the key and we couldn't get in our room so we went down to the reception, the staff was a bit rude being like ''is this really your room miss ?'' well you know what, yes it is, and f- you, Sir.
Review 9:The location, the clean bathroom, the great beds, the calm, easy access to the metro and the trams.
Review 10:The pillows is too soft. The save did not working, and asked the reception for nothing and the bar in one week ,only one day I saw it open.
Review 11:I like the bathroom, heating, lift, parquet(floor) and the ventilation and the room
Review 12:Location isn't great or particularly central. Booked a double and despite being moved to a different room we still got two twins. They charge for water wifi and breakfast which as an entirety is a bit of a joke. Beds, TV are really out of date.
Review 13:Friendly staff. Decent facilities.
Review 14:Wifi connection was very bad. Could not use it in room. Staff was not smiling and very helpful. I have requested a double bad but they gave two single beds. They tried to get breakfast price additionally even I had this price including breakfast. Parking was possible with 10 € / day
Review 15:on previous stays at this hotel the room had carpets which have now been changed to laminate. Also there used to be a small kitchenette which is no more. My personal preference was the carpeted floor and the kitchenette.
Review 16:spacious, clean rooms. Friendly staff. Nice continental breakfast.
Review 17:Bad smell in the room, telephone was not working, bad lighting in the room, wather in the bathroom (it was boiling hot or ice cold) breakfast room was to small (cant find free table) at check in they wanted to charge us for free wifi (5eur) at check out they wanted to charge us for breakfast that was already included in the price
Review 18:Almost nothing
Review 19:Staff didn't really give good recommendations of places to eat/ drink/visit. They were very unenthused. Hotel far out of Mitte/Berlin Centre.
Review 20:Decor in bedroom. Option to have clean towels each day. Bar and other amenities in hotel Good transport links
Review 21:Front desk female staff unhelpful & unfriendly. Smiling could go a long way...as though asking them anything seemed a chore .Even getting room keys not working..they made you feel it was your fault!
Review 22:Was easy enough to get in to berlin centre but staff did not seem to want to help with directions etc to anywhere... Room was comfy enough.
Review 23:The staff aren't the friendliest. There is no fridge in the room. All the t.v channels where in German.
Review 24:The bedroom and bathroom where spaceful. The room was clean.
Review 25:Had to wait 45min for my room to be ready. No free wifi (it's 21st century).
Review 26:Room was spacious, clean and with good sound isolation. Good location, only 15-20min from Alexanderplatz.
Review 27:A bit noisy at times; take your ear plugs for a good sleep!
Review 28:Nice, spacious, clean room with decent sized private bathroom. Excellent view of Berlin city. All in all: really good value for money.
Review 29:Should be 1bed for two ppl, but we had two beds pulled up together, so they were splitting all the time. We could hear every word our neghbors were saying. And no wifi.. And room service workers didnt even waited for an answer, just opened the doors and started to come in.
Review 30:Nice view from window from 13th floor
Review 31:Lack of free wifi. No free TV chanels.
Review 32:Even though check in time is 3pm we were given a room at 9:30am without any additional fee. It was absolutely awesome! Room was big and spacious.Heating units worked perfectly and could be controlled.
Review 33:The carpet was dirty, seemed like was not properly cleaned in years. Bathroom had pee stains in the toilet when we first got in, makes you wander how and what they actually cleaned. Shower gel finished during my shower... and only one little soap for two persons for our entire stay. Hotel is on the opposite side of the city you want to be, around 20 min from the center and 10 min walk to the M tram. Not much around. Wifi is not free... for a 4 star hotel I find this ridiculous. TV was from the 1990, not so many channels either (not an issue for us). No coffe/thee in your room. You can ask for it for free, but we found out the last day so quite disappointing.
Review 34:Rooms are spacious and quiet (we stayed on the top floor). Staff was helpful.
Review 35:in the standard rooms, the wifi is not included. I had to pay 5 euros a day and the signal was very bad. I had to go into the hall to use the Internet. There is a bar in the groundfloor, but the service is too bad.
Review 36:Cleaning.
Review 37:Hotel had recently changed name without changing the signage. Taxi drove around 20 minutes to find it, finally we saw an A4 paper over the previous sign with the new name. at 11pm the lobby was a madhouse of people trying to check in, teenagers running around etc. I needed to extend my stay by one night but rather than keeping my name on a waiting list, the desk clerk said check again in the morning. Nothing was available then, so I had to find another hotel for the second night with just a few hours notice.
Review 38:Finding a few pizza boxes on top of kitchenette More to do with last people in room However cleaners should have seen them as well
Review 39:2 mins to tram stop 10min to Alexanderplatz Staff knew where to eat out and places to go Breakfast pentiful and enjoyable
Review 40:Chose a business room as internet was essential but the higher rate didn't include internet. I agreed to pay the €5 fee but it didn't work. The didn't have tea/coffee facilities. The room did have a sink and microwave but nothing to use in them - pointless facilities. There was no light in the ceiling and the one table lights didn't work. I was fumbling around in the dark trying to find the light switches.
Review 41:It was clean.
Review 42:The vending machines for beverages required proof of age for beer, which didn't accept either mine or my wife's credit card as proof. If you leave the windows open it can be very noisy at times as the hotel is facing a main thoroughfare.
Review 43:The hotel is located close to tram stops that make it easy to reach any location in or around berlin. The room was very spacious also.
Review 44:This hotel shouldn't be 4 stars at all !!! Slow service, old furniture, carpet bad smell in the corridor, paid internet, paid breakfast...etc
Review 45:Nothing interesting
Review 46:I stayed at this hotel in September 2015 for 6 nights. I paid all theamount before the stay and I had the unpleasant surprise to find outthat an additional amount of 175 Eur has been retained from my bankaccount. Nobody told me about this additional amount, they just took itfrom my account upon arrival, having my credit card details! I havecontacted the bank to see what can be done. So be careful! Even if it isa cheap hotel, they charge you extra, for whatever amount they wantwithout even tell you!!!
Review 47:It's a bit shabby but perfectly functional. The staff are a bit unfriendly to start with, and room service does not exist in the classical sense unless you're ordering food I imagine.
Review 48:Really close to the tram, which once you've worked out is pretty convenient. A good base for exploring the city.
Review 49:First we need to wait over 2 hour at the reception to check in (we arrived at 13.30) they told us "check in" was at 15.00 but we were checked in at 15.50 after asking them 5 times. The location is poor, nothing much around, it takes about 25 -30 min to get to the city center by tram. The hotel is old, the room was OK (at least it was clean), no free internet and much more..... so If you are looking for 4* hotel book something else as definitely the hotel is not a 4*.
Review 50:The room was OK
Review 51:Bed is not comfortable, location is far from center. smell something in bathroom. Some cleaner is not really go to clean room.
Review 52:Business center is really useful.
Review 53:Besides being a 4 stared hotel, the room didn't have airconditioning/ free wifi/ frigobar/ lcd Tv. We stayed morethan 2 days and during these period the floor of the room was nevercleaned; one day we were taking a shower and there was no gel, becausethey forgot to fullfil the recipient; there was a terrible smell comingfrom the shower tubes so we had to keep the bathroom door always closed;one day the cleaning team woke us up at 9h40 A.M. to ask if they couldclean the room (incredible!). All the rooms had a door conecting toother room. Of course this door was locked, but as you can imagine youcould hear everything your neighbours were saying or doing. Horribleexperience! Not to mention the lack of sympathy in the reception.
Review 54:It has very few of what we can expect from a 4 stared hotel andprofessionals.
Review 55:The internet was very expensive, 5 EUR for 24 hours starting from the first log. There was bad, noticable smell from the drain in the bathroom.
Review 56:The staff was nice, the breakfest was good, tram stops and markets are around, we received triple room instead of double so it was spacious, rather quiet.
Review 57:Having to pay for wifi and being so far out. Clearer woke us up each day as they would come to clean the room at 8.30am and one day our room never got cleaned. Called reception and asked for towels as our room didn't get cleaned and never got them.
Review 58:The comfort
Review 59:Terrible location, restaurant closed and nowhere to get decent food nearby. Baconless boring breakfast with lukewarm orange juice and very hard to find a table. Not allowed to use stairs and elevators take forever to arrive. Door nearest elevator locked so a long detour is required to enter the hotel. Room too hot at night and too noisy outside to sleep with open window. Uncomfortable beds with terrible pillows. Noisy fan in bathroom and lights that take forever to turn on plus a loose toilet seat. Huge room with nothing in it... no minibar/fridge, only one chair, only one piece of paper to write on, broken light bulb at check-in, ancient tiny television with terrible signal, no way to make a cup of tea/coffee. Not even a single drawer. Not what I expect from a 4-star hotel.
Review 60:Parking facilities
Review 61:Difficult to locate the entrance! Not sure if its holiday inn or not because they have two branding!
Review 62:Very clean room! Things get fixed by itself without telling them!
Review 63:It is not explicit (from its Booking's reservation page nor on local signage) that GCity Hotel and Holiday INN have same reception desk, so signage can be optimized so that you are not searcheing for the entrance for checkin ;-)
Review 64:The hotel mentioned fitness room on their website but it was 100% disappointment. You could see no one took care of the equipment. Many of them were broken and there were not much possibilities for exercising. The staff was mainly sour and one of the male workers seemed to despise us just because we were women? We were surprised that there are still hotels that doesn't have free wifi!
Review 65:The room was nice, clean and big. The price was very fair.
Review 66:Reception was in fact in Holiday Inn (Next door but same complex) which advertises free wifi but we were charged. Location is very poor and hard to find first of all. It is a few train rides to the city centre.
Review 67:The room is fab. Literally the best thing about the place.
Review 68:Reception was understaffed. Staff were friendly and helpful, but too many guests for too few staff led to queues, and one awkward customer caused a huge delay at a time when only one receptionist was there (9am in the morning). No organised queuing system and no attempts to prevent people from queue jumping led to chaos and grumbles when a second member of staff finally arrived. Vending machines had credit card slot, but used it only for age verification - unless you have significant amounts of money in coins, this rendered the machines useless. Cash machine on site was not working. No corner shops or supermarkets nearby. Wifi was slow (which is disappointing considering they charge for it).
Review 69:Huge hotel comprising two high rise tower blocks with bar, restaurants serving high quality meals, vending machines, comfortable, clean rooms, windows that can open, aircon, room service, and superb value for money at the price I paid.
Review 70:Overall it was alright. However, wifi and TV didn't work properly. Some parts of the hotel will need redevelopment soon.
Review 71:Good breakfast, friendly staff
Review 72:Sterile environment. No free Wi-Fi, and the TV in the room was so old with poor picture (maybe not that important) but in general hotel looks outdated and in need of a facelift!
Review 73:Close to public transport
Review 74:Tourist Hotel. (extreme big) Big room, but nothing special. Carpet not really clean. TV from the 90th (not really important, but looks strange in the room)
Review 75:Staffs, really friendly and helpful. Breakfast, fantastic. Big room, and nice bed.
Review 76:Meal menu in the bar was limited and over priced.
Review 77:The hotel was very clean, our bedding and towels were changed daily. Breakfast was good value at €9.50 each. Tram station within walking distance, with a 5 person day ticket €6.90
Review 78:The staff wasn't keen to answer questions, we needed to pay for wifi which was slow. The bathroom was relatively clean, but there was blight at some places.
Review 79:The room was spacious and the hotel was close to public transport stops.
Review 80:The hotel was really designed for coach parties staying a night or two. If staying a week as we were, there were a lot of extra costs on top of the basic room rate. Breakfast, if booked in advance was a whopping 16 euro per person (though only 9 if booked at check in!) and the WiFi was 5 euro a night per device. The temperature in Berlin that week was over 30 degrees and the window would only open a crack and there was no aircon. This, and the almost flat pillows, made for uncomfortable nights. (the lovely receptionist tracked down the one and only fan which at least moved the hot air around).
Review 81:The hotel was on a tram route so it was easy to get to main areas. It was a good price for the basic room. The room was a good size. Staff were pleasant (but often busy as it is a large hotel!)
Review 82:Check in takes too long and it's too basic for a 4 star hotel
Review 83:The staff is very friendly and helpful. Gave us ideas of places to visit and how to get there.
Review 84:Horrible old TV, no option of channels. We tried to order the TV dinner one night to relax but since we called 5min before 11pm,wich is the limit to order, they didn't serve us.But we were still in time!! Very unpleasant. And it's quite a 20 to 25min journey to Alexander Platz, where basically most of the attractions are located nearby.
Review 85:The hotel was clean and the room we stayed in was big and quiet.
Review 86:We've made a reservation on this hotel by booking and when we arrived they checked us in Holiday Inn Hotel (which is in the same place - they have the same reception) and we didn't have wi-fi not even in the reception. Hotel facilities are not for 4 stars and the hotel does not look as it should given the price. It is not a modern one; it is an old hotel acutely
Review 87:In about 15 min u can arrive by tram in Alexander Platz
Review 88:Very hot room and no airconditioning. Surly, unpleasant reception staff - only interested in upgrading to a suite when we complained about the heat and noise - only interested in selling an overpriced breakfast package. No free wifi (what hotels don't offer free wifi) - they want 5E a night and it costs E10 a month for a house in Germany. Blatant robbery. No facilities in the area like a restaurant or shops so the hotel charges bandit, robbery prices for a poor breakfast and hot bottled water in the unairconditioned boiling hot room with limited window opening. Hotel is so far out of city that the maps they give don't have their hotel or M13 tram route in the map zone. Too hot to leave the window closed. Too noisy to leave the window open.
Review 89:Cheap price.
Review 90:Staff, especially the person with the night shifts.Though when we checked in, that person was not very welcoming and hospitable as well.. We had a connecting room, and very loud and noisy neighbours. Therefore my partner and I called to reception to complain about this. The receptionist told us to come in the morning to swop rooms. In the end we got new neighbours and we decided to stay in the room. Next night same story, at around 5AM loud Indian music. It kept us a wake for the 3rd night in a row. So we called down again, but it was our own fault we didn't switched rooms etc. HORRIBLE. Tell your staff it is RUDE to say that to a guest. This gentleman did not even come up to the room and asked our neighbours if their music could go down in volume. Wauw. In the end we checked out at 6.45. We were/are NOT satisfied. At all.
Review 91:Breakfast
Review 92:Reception staff attitude. Location of the room which is in other building without any guidance of help to reach in. No any facilities stuff in the room or bathroom rather than one bottle of water was hot not good to drink and on tissue box in the bathroom. No fridge. No air conditioning or even fan since the weather was too hot.
Review 93:Clean room and bathroom
Review 94:When we arrived we found a cockroach from our room. The staff was a bit tired and didn't offer any refund. We got another room but it wasn't any better. The bed was extremely hard. We tried to buy an upgrade to get a better room but the staff told us the beds are the same in all of the rooms. The hallway/restaurant was noisy at nights. The cleaning staff was noisy in the mornings. There was no airconditioning. The hotel was like an apartment complex from Soviet Union. Did not enjoy our stay at all!
Review 95:The staff at reception is "not totally" what you can expect from an hotel like this. They are just "ok" and collaborative but not very tasteful and courtly. The room was not really well acoustic isolated (but still more than acceptable), and no minbar(/fridge) present.
Review 96:Room was really clean and big, bed was comfortable. The position of the hotel is quite good, close to tram station line M5 and M13 ca 20min from Warschauer Straße and "city center", 30 to 40min from Hbf station.
Review 97:Found some flying insect in the room in the middle of the night even if all windows were closed Old ad small TV - with cathode tube Dirty bathroom No idea how this hotel got 4 stars
Review 98:It offered parking (for 10 euros) Good breakfast (15 euros per person) Nice view for high floor Quiet room
Review 99:There was a leak in the ceiling the last night we were there, but other than that a great stay.
Review 100:Huge rooms, private bathroom. Beer in the vending machines right outside our door!
Review 101:Not good value for money; old furniture and appliances; bad internet that you have to pay for; no mini bar in room; very small restaurant for breakfast, it was very hard to find a place to sit as it was overcrowded;
Review 102:Cleanliness; close to tramway station that takes you directly to some of the hotspots in Berlin; most personnel was very nice;
Review 103:The location was good for transport- very close (less than 1 minute walk) to tram stop Landsberger Allee and about 12 minutes to get to the main strip of clubs and shops. However physically around the hotel there is nothing aside from a kebab shop and some small fruit stalls. If you want to be in the heart of Berlin and roam the streets this location isn't ideal. Also the pillows were hardly pillows ... Stayed at a lot of places on this trip but these pillows were pretty bad .. Folded mine three times over they were so thin. Our main issue was the Internet- be warned that the 'internet terminal' in the lobby is NOT WIFI.. It is two computers which are often occupied. The wifi was not that fast or reliable for paying €5 a day (I was unable to make viber calls without the reception cutting out). But overall we managed.
Review 104:Very close to transport, staff were incredibly helpful; provided directions to anything we needed. The gym access was free and quite a good basic gym. There is a buffet and restaurant available on premesis and while we didn't use them it was nice to know we had the option. Our rooms were kept very clean and beds made daily. Unfortunately our sheets weren't changed and there was a stain due to a spill but that was a minor complaint.
Review 105:There was no fridge in the hotelroom. The internet (wlan) was way too expensive, a 4-star hotel should have this included in their normal fees. Additionally, there was a bottle of water in the hotelroom, but in order to drink it, you had to pay 3,50 Euro. This diminished the feeling of being in a 4-star hotel even more. Water and internet should be included.
Review 106:Nice and spacious room with soundproof walls and windows towards the big street. Nice bathroom. Good connections with public transport due to the Metro station right outside the hotel.
Review 107:lack of 'free WiFi and no air con..the room was very hot and stuffy even with the window open.
Review 108:Cleanliness, it was all brand new and right opposite the tram line.
Review 109:- Except for one very keen member of staff, the other ones were rather rude. -The room could have been refurbished completely not just painted: the TV was at least 20years old and the bathroom looked a bit tired
Review 110:Good location, a 15 minute tram ride to alexanderplatz
Review 111:5 Euro for 1 day is a bit expensive, and wifi is not strong even in the lobby.
Review 112:The room is big, and partially because I am disabled, my room is equipped with special toilet for the disabled.
Review 113:Wifi connection was brutal, 5 euros per day per device. TV was 20 years old and tiny. Told not to drink the tap water. Neighbourhood was not nice.
Review 114:Not much, easy tram ride to better part of town
Review 115:Wifi was unusable and to expensive Staff wernt helpful with the issue about the wifi, would not refund
Review 116:room was clean, good shower Close to tram stop
Review 117:The service at the front desk was terrible. It happened several when it's our turn the staff start to answer phone, helping others etc. We didn't feel prioritized at all and that happened a few times and with different staff. They also keep mistaken us as part of some tour bus groups which obviously was annoying. The room it self was badly isolated, we could hear a lot of noise from other guests. And no mini fridge, no air condition, which could have been nice especially during summer. The location wasn´t too good eihter, it was too far from the city. I wouldn't stay there again.
Review 118:They charged us 240 euros for a small, badly ventilated and obsolete room, located far from everything and attended by sardonic, lazy personnel. The breakfast was not included, as it wasnt the wifi nor any facility that should be included in a hotel of such category
Review 119:The breakfast was a tad expensive for us.
Review 120:From the hotel it takes just a couple of minutes by tram to reach Alexanderplatz. The room was very stylish with wooden floor instead of carpet.
Review 121:the staff would sometimes seem quite disinterested at the reception desk to help you. the hotel is actually named the holiday inn and this is not clear from the booking. This makes it difficult to find, its also slightly too far out from the city centre.
Review 122:the facilities were lovely and the hotel felt very welcoming and comfortable
Review 123:- No free wifi - No free parking - No free breakfast - Far from center, and cafes, restaurants - Price cheap, but including all above becames not worth it. There are better hotels in city center for this price.
Review 124:- Renovated rooms
Review 125:We had (my collegue from the UK and I - we are both senior managers in our organisation) had an interesting check out experience. When my college tried to check out for both of us he was treated very differently to me when I dealt with the same customer service person and it turned out that I can speak German (as my mother tongue) but live abroad for a long time. It was about the cancellation of breakfasts we had made and which have not recorded completely. Sure we could resolve it (in German) but it was the attitude which was pretty unpleasant, not the fact that there was probably a missunderstanding which always can happen. We would like to use this hotel for business trips and I appreciate my fellow senior managers being treated well (without me) when we are in Germany for work. Apart from that it was a good experience
Review 126:room was fine and clean, however at the entrance the carpet needs replacing - looks tatty even if all is cleaned well. Breakfast setting: very nice staff always was helpful to provide me with gluten free bread - very nice, twice even before I asked. Most people at the reception were friendly and helpful. Also the people in the restaurant have been very friendly and helpful as well as the Gym was fine
Review 127:No airconditioning, was very warm in the room. Thought it was unpleasant that everybody could Enter hause 3. Long wait at reception in the evening, no Bell.
Review 128:Reception helped me with a travelplan. Reception gave me a spare Key for my room, forgot the key at the office that day.
Review 129:The hotel was booked due to champions League and the check in was smooth. Not the best location and you have pay for wifi in 2015? It doesn't make sense. The fitness center was alright but you had to get a key from the reception which I think was odd. The rooms are spacious and clean but the bed not that comfortable and no extra pillows.
Review 130:Check-in waiting time was 15 minutes. In the shower there was still stuff from other people. And the cleaning crew was shouting at each other in the hallway (at 7AM!!) for minutes and only stopped when i asked for it Worst hotel experiences for many years
Review 131:wifi
Review 132:I advised the hotel I would have arrived at 12pm but I couldn't check-in before 3pm. I had to pay 5euro to connect my laptop to the wifi; how can a hotel be competitive without free internet in 2015?!
Review 133:I booked the hotel the same morning I checked in for a really good price
Review 134:The staff are not rude at all but they are not so friendly either. There is no fridge in the room, instead there are some automatic machines out side of the rooms for buying drink and snack. The room does not look as fancy as it looks in the pictures of the website but still OK. I got a very good deal online, but I would not pay the normal price for this hotel.
Review 135:The rooms are very clean, large and quiet. Room service was very good. The trams M5 and M6 are easily accessible from the hotel which makes it very easy to get to the city center (Alexander Platz).
Review 136:5 euro/day for wifi is higher than anywhere I've been, 15 euro/person for breakfast and the tv was from mid 90's (no exaggeration, it was a Nokia box Tv). Staff were slow and the restaurant was way overpriced. Would not stay again
Review 137:After locking the bathroom door , my friend could not get it open. Housekeeping was prompt in helping open the door. Maybe a good idea to lubricate the lock? The soap dispenser at the sink was not refilled.
Review 138:Room was spacious and bathroom adequately large and clean. We got fresh towels every day.For the price we paid for the room, it was value for money. Walking distance to public transport.
Review 139:There isn't refrigerator The cleaners tried come in the room on morning even we were in the room. That was terrible.
Review 140:Really kind person Clean room and well worked Wi-Fi
The Fine Print
Please note there is an additional charge of EUR 10 per day if you bring a pet.
