Reviews for Hosteria Helsingfors

Review 1:1. The food was mediocre - absolutely no choice, flexibility or authenticity. Besides the kitchen not being up to scratch since the food was very poor, it was also extremely limited, serving my wife reheated chicken from lunch owing to salmon being the only main course on our first night and not even being able to accommodate my wife's request for boiled potatoes. Moreover, not once were we presented with authentic Patagonian food, to the extent that we had to request meat and potatoes to be served on our second night, particularly since the food on our first day at helsingfors mainly consisted of chicken roulade and salmon - hardly Patagonian lamb!2. The estancia which we were taken to was merely the remnants of a bygone ranch without there being a single gaucho onsite, no cattle or sheep and just 1 horse and sheep skin which was at least 2 years old. The hike to the Los Hermanos estancia was listed as an activity in an attachment which was sent to us by the hotel prior to our visit. But instead all we found was a derelict estancia in the middle of nowhere.3. Much to our disappointment, as soon as we got to helsingfors, we were informed that the 'boat' which was to take us to the viedma glacier was not operational due to the required maintenance works and therefore this once again proved to be an unfaithful representation of the activities listed both on the hotel's website and in their information paper and further limited the possible activities at our disposal. We were moreover informed that the boat/rib (hardly fit for the prevalent weather conditions) was un-operational all season but again this was not brought to our attention prior to our visit.4. We were further restricted on arrival as the gaucho in charge of rounding the horses happened to be on leave and therefore we were told that there was no way of going horse riding without him on our first day even though we later found out that helsingfors has its own horses.5.

Review 2:The Lodge is in a stunning location and the staff are kind and helpful.

Review 3:The 75 km drive from Ruta Nacional 40 on a very rough gravel road (but it was worth it)

Review 4:The gorgeous location, the friendly and attentive staff, the comfortable room, excellent dinner (and packed lunch for our hike)

Review 5:A rip off and charged extra for Christmas Eve. Provided no hot meal. The price i paid was different to the price that i booked in bookings.com. Very unhappy.

Review 6:Awful food. Couldn't turn down or turn off the heating in the room. Sleep with window open, told me the staff. Way too expensive for what it offers.

Review 7:Hike to the Laguna Azul

Review 8:Absolutely Incredible! A beautiful plane at the endlich of the World:)

Review 9:Personalized friendly service. Beatiful location. Relaxing. Can't wait to go again.

Review 10:it is a long ride from el calafate, calculate 3.5 hours of which 2 on 70km gravel road.

Review 11:Beautiful located with good excess to blue langoon and other tracks Good horseback riding Flexibility to accomodate special wishes like riding with the gauchos to catch a run away bull

Review 12:While we were there (3 nights) they turned off the electricity in theafternoon while everyone else was hiking (our horseback ride was done)so we had to be outside in order to read. This was Ok because theweather happened to be beautiful. But that was not ideal.

Review 13:We will always look back on our experience at Helsingfors as one of ourmost remarkable stays ever because of two things: the truly spectaculargeographical location and the friendly staff. After a 50 mile trip on adirt road (including fording a stream) you come to the estancia--theonly private land at the entrance of glacier national park. You can sitand gaze upon the Fitz Roy range, nearby glaciers, Lake Viedma andabundant wildlife--especially birds. This is primarily a place organizedaround hikers--they lead excursions every day. Horseback rides too. Thefood is very good and the rooms comfortable. The staff is terrific.
