Reviews for Hotel Roter Ochsen

Review 1:Mattress was a bit soft for me.

Review 2:A very beautiful family-run Swiss hotel. Free coffee/tea, buffet breakfast included. At the breakfast I was even offered to take enough food with me for my upcoming 6 hrs road trip, which I mentioned to the manager. Everybody is very nice.

Review 3:As many hotelsin Switzerland, this was also relatively expensive. The floors above our room creeked.

Review 4:free coffee. excellent location, excellent room decoration and furniture.

Review 5:No lift for carrying luggage and noisy floor at times

Review 6:Excellent location, between the train station and the lake. The owners helping tendency, advise for the local visits.Cleaned room with privacy for stay

Review 7:There was nothing bad........except perhaps that I couldn't have stayed longer.

Review 8:Everything. Fantastic hosts who couldn't do enough for me. I had a friend from New Zealand and they insisted that I invite her to breakfast as their guest. Cat-lovers will be enchanted by their little beauty. This 400 year old house has been renovated and refurbished beautifully and sympathetically.

Review 9:Closing hour of the reception between 11 -15

Review 10:located very central in town. clean, modern B&B in a historic house. Friendly host and discrete hospitality

Review 11:Nothing!

Review 12:We stayed our first few nights in the Ramada and when we decided to stay 2 more nights in Solothurn we had to move to the Roter Ochsen because the Ramada was fully booked. Were we ever glad we did! The proprieters are great, the room (Junior Suite) is huge and quiet (I don't think there was anybody in the room above us so I can't speak to others' comments about creaking floors. The breakfast is perfect, and the fact that you can make a great cup of coffee for free at anytime of the day is a surprisingly welcome benefit...when you consider the cost of a cup of coffee out!

Review 13:Cannot fault this - service was fantastic (e.g free coffee whenever you wanted it) books to browse etc; rooms wonderful in recent conversion of 18th century building, wifi excellent everywhere. Breakfast very good; bike stored securely. Would love to return for a longer stay

Review 14:Our room was at the front of the hotel. As it was summer we had the windows open which was very noisy at night with buses going past.

Review 15:Friendly, central, clean. Free coffee. Beer and wine available.

Review 16:No elevator, spiral staircase. Room on street (noisy in morning) because better rooms booked months in advance by regulars. Section of town not very desirable. Very deceptive photography on internet. Furnishings less than Ikea quality.

Review 17:Location good for access to town and train station. Owner took baggage to room for us and was accommodative

Review 18:No lift at this digital age, may be to retain the old style

Review 19:excellent location, very close to river and train station

Review 20:It's old building so there is no elevator and I stay top floor

Review 21:Service and room cleanliness is great

Review 22:Owners very friendly and helpful. Solothurn is beautiful, interesting and restful.

Review 23:Helpful staff, relaxed atmosphere, spacious double room, walking distance from the old town.

Review 24:the smell of the hotel after dinner

Review 25:breakfast,location,size of the rooms

Review 26:- no fridge in the room - no elevator

Review 27:+ hotel staff + close to railway station + close to restaraunt area, city center and river

Review 28:Outstanding quality and value for money. Attention to detail. Great atmosphere.

Review 29:No kettle in the room. No iron in the room.

Review 30:Very fair and nice stuff. Clean and compact hotel

Review 31:Creaky wooden floorboards. Bathroom door wouldn't open without hitting sink!

Review 32:Storage for bikes, very helpful staff.

Review 33:No lift. Stair suitable for esperienced climbers. Bathroom extremely narrow.

Review 34:Location

Review 35:The facilities, the silence, the confort.

Review 36:The door was shorter than my husband. :)

Review 37:The ambiance and location. It was close to the friends we were visiting.

Review 38:We love that you can work to town and the train station. The room is large and spacious for three people.

Review 39:Only downside was the lack of a lift, due to the hotel being in a 400 year old house.

Review 40:Comfortable room and bed. Owners were friendly and helpful. Very atmospheric old building.

Review 41:The bed was too soft for me and I couldn't sleep well (twin size). Sadly, this ruined the overall experience. The breakfast was simple, but comparable to other hotel I visited in Switzerland.

Review 42:The location is quite central, but not directly in the main touristic area. But still, all the restaurants, pubs , etc. are in 5min walking distance. The room was clean and properly equipped. The price was cheap. Close to the train station.

Review 43:If you like to sleep with the windows open, the train noise from the station does carry into the room. Absolutely no noise with the windows shut.

Review 44:Great location, nice extra little touches I.e. 2 x different shower gel choices, extra pillows, complimentary mineral water.

Review 45:Noisy floorboards.

Review 46:Very clean. Nicely restored property. Great beds. Near to train station and to the historical parts of town. Good restaurants nearby (try the Austrian wine cellar just around the corner).

Review 47:limited comfort due to old town house (e.g shower cab, no elevator) but OK otherwise watch the cats if you are allergic somewhat frugal breakfast fair walk to parking garage (omit heavy baggage)

Review 48:close to downtown fairly quiet location refurbished and spacious room good sleeping comfort friendly staff free coffee free selection of morning newspapers bio products

Review 49:Breakfast was good with local and organic food, but it would have been nice with more fruit/veggies.

Review 50:Great modern and very clean rooms. Really friendly staff and great location, just a couple of minutes from the train station and old town. Several restaurants next door and a grocery store closeby.

Review 51:Not suggested for disabled: no lift to reach rooms and also steps inside the room to access the bathroom.

Review 52:Room large, clean and confortable. Good and genuine breakfast. Just a brief walk to the center. Staff kind, gentle and professional (I had a missunderstanding about room rate and they solved with fairness). Suggested!

Review 53:While the wooden floors were quaint, they made too much noise when you walk on them. There was no lift and if you got a room on the 4th floor, prepare to do heavy lifting with the luggage. Also, would have appreciated more bread variety at breakfast.

Review 54:The bed mattress and linens were very good. This hotel is located close to the old city center and there are several restaurant choices just next door.

Review 55:Location is okay as it is very close to the centre of Solothurn, but cars may not enter the street (parking is 5 minutes walk)

Review 56:Excellent hosts, nice atmosphere, excellent (local) coffee

Review 57:We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, we definitely would recommend it. Very friendly and helpful staff. Even though there is no lift, they helped us carry our luggage.

Review 58:Very warm welcome. Nice atmosphere. Excellent breakfast. Very well located in the old city. Accueil tres agreable par des personnes soucieuses de l importance de la qualite de leur service. Petit dejeuner soigne. Ameublement soigne et de bon gout

Review 59:no lift

Review 62:Friendly staff Close to shops and river restaurants Big room Flat screen with UK channels included 5*****

Review 63:Free room upgrade. Beautiful.

Review 64:The room is big and quiet, like a home. Adjacent to the river and downtown. Easy to find out different restaurants.

Review 65:good location, nice large rooms, good WiFi in the room.

Review 66:4 levels up only by stairs...

Review 67:Staff, breakfast

Review 68:More like a B&B than a hotel, room a little cold and spartan.

Review 69:Good breakfast, with many organic options.

Review 70:Nobody at reception before 3pm. Not possible to leave luggage

Review 71:Really nice, clean hotel

Review 72:Breakfast, service, close to the train station and city

Review 73:You see the street from the window, not the river. But at least it is not noisy.

Review 74:The hotel is near to railwaystation(5 min). The breakfast was good.

Review 75:There was nothing specific that we didn't like about this hotel.

Review 76:This was a very good hotel. Spotlessly clean. Made to feel very welcome.
