Reviews for Hotel Wittelsbach
Review 1:Breakfast extremely poor, hardly more than a continental breakfast. Fruit juice diluted with water, fruit (apples, only fruit) not fresh and mushy. No variety. Breads ice cold, probably from previous day's bake. Service in breakfast room leaves much to be desired.
Review 2:Location; staff friendliness and helpfulness
Review 3:Parking is not easy to find
Review 4:It offered guest card which you could save money when parking car, free to take a bus and enjoy movie. The waiter is very kind. Only 10 minutes to the bus station and supermarket
Review 5:Front desk staff was very helpful. We reserved a balcony room. Too bad it was foggy this week. Easy walk to old part of town. Car parking is 5 euro per day as available. Good place to stay.
Review 6:Nothing. Everything was just fine.
Review 7:Very welcoming and friendly staff. ideally located within walking distance of the city center. Private parking is available at no extra charge. I booked the room about 15 minutes before getting there and everything was ready by the time I arrived.
Review 8:Way overpriced. Hotel is in desperate need of renovation. Breakfast was OK but limited compared to MANY other 3 star hotels we've stayed at in Germany for the same price. Overall, price is about twice as much as other comparable German hotels.
Review 9:Good location.
Review 10:The walk from the train station is short and convenient, but up a very steep hill, so if you're older or have a physical handicap I might suggest a taxi.
Review 11:Convenient to the train station, close to central part of town, has a laundromat on site. Had a beautiful balcony view, good free internet, clean rooms, and a decent breakfast. Staff was very friendly.
Review 12:It would have been nice to have a small refrigerator to keep some cold drinks on hand.
Review 13:The beautiful clean room, lots of space, high ceilings, comfortable bed. Nice breakfast on the top floor.
Review 14:Interior (incl. rooms and bathrooms) is a bit tired and requires a face lift.
Review 15:Relatively convenient location Good breakfast Friendly and helpful staff Reliable WIFI
Review 16:The room was very nice and traditional. The staff was great. Free bus service all over town with a card from the front desk. The hotel is very close to the town center. Easy flat walk to restaurants. Train station a very short taxi away.
Review 17:Tea and coffee making facilities in our room would have been an added bonus. Decor was a little drab. Reception could do with some cash spending on it.
Review 18:Great location and Franz on reception was extremely helpful and friendly. The woman who organises breakfasts was very efficient and was also friendly.
Review 19:Parking is tight (but manageable). Internet access.
Review 20:Wonderful & spacious suite room. Location (views of mountains & easy stroll into centre of Berchtesgaden). Helpful staff.
Review 21:The staff were fantastic to help with bookings and advice on transport etc. Very very friendly and helpful as well as good English. There is a laundromat right next door so that was great. Views are stunning, location is perfect within walking distance to the centre of Berchtesgaden.
Review 22:We booked a room with a balcony (at a more expensive rate) facing the main street (Maximillian Strasse) which is terribly noisy from morning to midnight. As there was no air-conditioning in the room, we could only open the windows, which led in all the noise from the street. We could not sleep even at night time because of the noise - the traffic as well as from people talking while walking pass the hotel (each and every word could be clearly heard!). The balcony faces houses on the other side of the road rather than the said beautiful mountain view. This really upset our expectations as we were hoping to see what was written on the hotel webpage.- the beautiful mountain view. There was no kettle in the room, not to say tea bags or coffee. We asked the reception for hot water and we received an answer that reflected cultural difference - "you can get that from the tap, but the water is not boiling!" As the first time to Berchtesgaden, we did not find the little pathway near the Railway station to the hotel. We therefore took a taxi uphill. The journey only takes less than 3 mins to arrive , but costs 8 Euros.
Review 23:The room itself was clearly nearly renovated. But the lobby and the hallways remained old and shabby. The hotel offers Berchtesgaden Guest Card at a deposit of 10Euro. The card was very useful because with it all local buses were free.
Review 24:Need to walk uphill from the rail station and quite exhaustive with large suitcases. Our room is on the first floor and perhaps the view from the upper floor may be better.
Review 25:Breakfast is delicious!
Review 26:The room had neither a fridge, nor air conditioning. And the breakfast was surprisingly limited and overall disappointing. The two times we went there was little food on offer and most of it was already gone. Beautiful hotel, but expensive for what you receive.
Review 27:Beautiful old building overlooking the Bavarian alps. It’s within easy walking distance of Berchtesgaden’s pedestrian zone, and relatively close to the train station. But if you arrive by train with luggage, you might want to consider a taxi, because the easiest route to the hotel is uphill and part of it is a dirt/gravel path (hard on wheels). The room itself was large, with roughly 16 foot (5 meter) ceilings and beautiful crown mouldings. It was spotlessly clean and the beds were very comfortable. We also had a small terrace off our room and enjoyed watching a lightning storm in the distance. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. But there’s no one at the desk after 10 o’clock, so be sure to take your key with you if you’re going to be out past then. Easy bus access to Königsee and the Eagle’s Nest among other things.
Review 28:Stayed in a suite which was excellent. Very comfortable beds with lovely bedding. Good parking although car park attached to hotel holds approx. 5 cars.
Review 29:The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The hotel is dated but the location was good. The service, in particular the young man called Franz, was terrific and very friendly. Breakfast was pretty good
Review 30:Hand Shower was not working properly , water pressure in hand shower was very low though pressure was good in other areas.
Review 31:Location is good in the centre of the town . I had a room with balcony facing the road so it was noisy sometimes but no problem with it . Room was clean and bathroom was also good . Front desk guy Franz was very helpful and helped me plan my sighseeing .I cant say much about breakfast being a vegetarian I had limited choice but whatever I had it was good.
Review 32:Rooms and lobby were dated. Parking is a hassle.
Review 33:A few blocks off the main part of Berchtesgaden. The beds were comfortable. Breakfast was free. Cleaning staff managed to service the room - very well - and leave before we returned from breakfast.
Review 34:1. Sofa cum bed for 1 room with 3 beds 2. Chargeable Wi-fi 3. No clock room facility 4. Breakfast food items could have been better
Review 35:1. Hotel Ambience 2. Helpful Staff 3. Room's cleanliness 4. God facilities in washroom
Review 36:We paid 5 euro extra to get wifi on our room, but it did not work. I complained, but the receptionist said there was nothing he could do. Also, we got a room that was under street level, very uncomfortable.
Review 37:Nothing.
Review 38:Located in center of the town, close to bus stop and lots of good restaurants in the neighbourhood. Staff very friendly and helpful, breakfast is excellent!
Review 39:When I booked our room online, I picked the suite because the pictures with it showed two rooms. Instead, we were given a single bedroom (they call this a suite). I returned to the front desk and explained that I reserved a suite with 2 rooms. He was very nice and gave us the keys to the room I reserved based on the pictures. It was freezing cold and since they turn the heat off during the night, we never got warm. We had minimal bedding and the two mattresses put together were uneven, making it very uncomfortable for my husband and I. The wifi worked poorly, and we could only use the wifi one at a time. The next morning, I went down to the front desk to ask about the lack of heat (I found out that our radiators would only work during the day) and also to ask for extra bedding. The desk attendant was very rude and abrasive and aske why I told the night desk attendant that I reserved the apartment with two rooms. I explained that I booked the suite based in the pictures, and he told me that I was wrong. He kept insisting that I was wrong and blaming me, but there was no appeasing him. I admitted that I reserved the suite (but to my standards, a suite IS more than just a room with a bathroom!) and that I had not booked an apartment, but I booked based on the pictures provided. Beware that the pictures might not match up with the room you get!!! They did provide extra blankets, and the room was warmer the 2nd night. I would not suggest this hotel. The free breakfast isn't anything to brag about either.
Review 40:Friendly staff in the breakfast room.
Review 41:We stayed as the season was coming to a close, were the last people in the hotel and all facilities were made available to us. Breakfast was excellent with lovely fresh bread, the staff were all very friendly, very helpful when needed and it was an excellent stay. The whole hotel was kept immaculate as always.
Review 42:The staff was very helpful and friendly. The facilities were comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. Perfectly situated within Berchtesgaden for touring. We will be back.
Review 43:No bar in the hotel Old fashioned decorations No view at all from my rear bedroom window
Review 44:Friendly, helpful staff Buffet breakfast Central location Great views across the valley
Review 45:We were disappointed that it cost for wifi as we are used to our hosts providing it free. Our solution was to pre-pay Telecom for one months service at about 15 Euro instead of 6 Euro per day. Do your math!
Review 46:The hotel is very conviently located in a quiet area close to Hubertostuben, Cafe Grassl, and Heng Heng Chinese Restaurants. Town center is a three minute with banking, regional information and many shops. The bahnhof is a bit further, down a long hill and takes some getting use to but some exploration will yield several routes of varying difficulty. The room was cleaned every day, usually while we were at breakfast. Breakfast room and our room had fantastic views and balconies. Desk staff very helpful and when they called for our taxi it took very little time for their arrival.
Review 47:The hotel was a little dated and the breakfast buffet was not the best.
Review 48:What can we say other than a lovely little hotel in one of the most beautiful locations we have ever been to. The view of the mountains from the balcony was excellent. The Eagles Nest trip is an unbelievable experience for lots of reasons, but what a view when you get up there. Anyone not going to see Lake Titisee is missing out one of the most beautiful locations - it rivals the Italian lakes with ease. The staff were always helpful and polite.
Review 49:The hotel is seedy, needs major redo. Hotel staff could not make our telephone in the room work. Bathroom old with dirty shower curtain. Carpet old and room smelled like mold. Very limited parking. Tried to contact Booking.com via email and no response or support. So much for 24 hr. communication. Hitler's Eagle Nest was great, but would suggest staying in Salzburg as the town looks tired. Also the laundry next door had only 2 working washing machines and dryers.
Review 50:Not much.
Review 51:Bathroom a little dated and the toilet was constantly refilling when flushed. No wifi.... You have to pay for a card that gets you the hotspot which only cost €6 but my iPad wouldn't connect strong enough to upload photos or Skype home... Go 5 mins down the road in the square and you get it for free and quite good so I found out later!!
Review 52:We had balcony view to front and a slice of heaven... Gorgeous!! Beds comfy. Despite the negatives stated ~ we would stay here again when we defiantly will return one day!
Review 53:the bed was the worst I've slept on in all of our European travels. I'm used to them being really hard, but this one had springs everywhere that were poking you all night. also, the parking situation is less than ideal--there were only 7 or 8 spots, so cars would have to block each other in
Review 54:location, high ceilings
Review 55:We love the Wittelsbach for its wonderful location to the town center as well as many restaurants. The staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were wonderful. Rooms were large enough and clean. This was our second trip back and we were again happy.
Review 56:No wi- fi in room . This could be purchased but was a little expensive. No tea/coffee facilities in room but there was a vending machine in lobby. Neighbouring cafe opens late, coffee available there.
Review 57:Our room was a spacious suite, facing the street with a partial view of mountains from a small balcony. Elegant entrance and stairway and there was a lift from the lobby. Breakfast standard and adequate. Plenty of warm water and very clean. Staff friendly and helpful with useful local knowledge.
Review 58:Hotel is a little dated and tired but clean. Shocked that Wifi was an extra 8 euros and parking 5!
Review 59:Central Locations of the Hotel is good, the staff are friendly and the Breakfast good.
Review 60:Breakfast was a bit limited for choice
Review 61:Excellent location near town centre for choice of dining, post office nearby, laundrette next door, could walk from train and bus stations but didn't, discount card was included in price.
Review 62:Parking could be an issue. Using the few spaces the hotel has cost 5Euro a night. Otherwise you had to feed the meter at the publicparking lots or pay for parking in the nearby garage. WiFi also costs5 Euro a day.
Review 63:Our room with a balcony had a beautiful view of the mountains. It wasa short walk to the center of town and all the shops and restaurants(although the best restaurant by far was right next door called theHubertus). The staff was super friendly and helpful. The room was notcramped although the bathroom was a bit on the small side....butclean and modern. Breakfast was good with an excellent attentiveserver. Thanks!
Review 64:Above all, the manager is unbearable. He is so disagreeable that his behaviour is not to be believed. The breakfast is not at all good, both in choice & freshness. Far too expensive for such out-dated rooms, tired-looking breakfast, and horrible service. Keep looking and don't settle for this place.
Review 65:Very friendly young man at reception in the evenings and quite friendly breakfast woman.
Review 66:Travelers coming in July and August need to know that like most hotels here, there is no air conditioning and the hotel does not provide fans. Better bring your own or buy one locally.
Review 67:Friendly, professional staff Very clean and tidy Other travelers have commented on the breakfast, but we thought it was fine for a "continental plus" meal.
Review 68:Breakfasts were barely adequate (stale bread, tired selection each of 3 mornings we were there); staff unhelpful with simple requests, never could seem to offer positive solution to whatever was asked, such as to make the extra bed for 3rd person less like a wooden board, very noisy room.
Review 69:NA

Review 76:big traffic when we were on balcony, and we had to close the windows during the night

Review 78:Wifi worked very poorly in the first floor where our room was (upstairs okay).
Review 79:Very friendly staff. Room was clean. Location.

Review 81:The room with its high ceiling, balcony with table and chairs (and view), and comfortable chairs was most pleasant.

Review 89:The quaintness is enticing and the location is perfect. Felt as if we had gone back in time to the days of elegance and grace.
Review 90:Some of the receptionists were very unhelpful. Had to pay for wifi.
Review 91:We were upgraded to a suite
Review 92:The price doesn't meet the quality.
