Reviews for The White Swan Halifax by Compass Hospitality

Review 1:Breakfast excellent staff good and makes you feel welcomed

Review 2:Central position have been a few times before but 1 negative you have to pay for parking. Why not give a voucher for lunch then we would come more often. £7.00 a nights parking is too much on top of the rates of the rates of the hotel

Review 3:Wifi reception not the greatest but that's only a minor fault.

Review 4:It's an old Victorian building which is very grand, and has been well adapted for modern needs. But it has the advantage of not feeling like a chain hotel, though you have to expect a few quirky features such as slightly uneven and squeaky floors. We were lucky to have a place for the car in the hotel garage, though spaces there are limited. The staff were very friendly and the room cosy on a cold night. It's great value for money, and the breakfast was delicious.

Review 5:There was some kind of club opposite our room where it didn't shut till 9 in the morning!! No sleep with the music and laughing!!I would have thought the hotel would have known this so why put people in these rooms

Review 6:The staff in the breakfast room were fantastic as was breakfast

Review 7:The decor and rooms are all getting a little bit tired.

Review 8:The staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very acceptable. The location is handy for the town centre and, if you are lucky enough to be able to get in, there is some secure parking.

Review 9:The care and attention we received from our arrival to departure was immense. Our car was securely parked within minutes. They then happily changed our quilt from feathers to man made fibres as my wife is allergic to feathers. The room was spotless and our full English breakfast was second to none, with top ups on drinks and toast ongoing throughout our meal. Excellent.

Review 10:Our stay was only short but we couldn't find anything we didn't like.

Review 11:The hospitality of the staff was excellent and they couldn't do enough to make our stay as pleasant as possible. They went out of their way to make us happy.

Review 12:The bed was so comfy and the breakfast was absolutely lovely . Staff were so nice and helpful . Couldn't fault anything ... hope to come back soon .

Review 13:This visit the room was a tad on the small side, not a problem as such, we will visit again soon

Review 14:Been to the hotel a few times now, always a pleasant stay

Review 15:Everything was clean but some of the decor was a little dated.

Review 16:Great location. The staff were very helpful upon arrival. We he a lovely breakfast in the morning.

Review 17:The staff were great and gave some of the best service I have had in a hotel. V friendly and without asking, the waitress at breakfast made sure that I was sitting in a quiet corner because there were a loud group coming down and she didn't want me to be caught up in the middle of them.

Review 18:We booked in advance to get a good deal. When we arrived there was a sign saying we could have stayed another night for a £1 more than we paid for 1 night.

Review 19:Great breakfast. Comfy bed.

Review 20:Apallingly cooked breakfast. After being confronted 'chef' admitted he cooked the scrambled egg in the microwave despite only us and another couple in for breakfast. Burnt sausage , undercooked tomato and black pudding, bacon asked for well done and was under done and merely warmed up as was most of the breakfast. Shockingly bad for a slow Monday with an empty dining room. At £10 per breakfast I was disgusted but despite an apology was offered nothing else and was still charged.

Review 21:Friendly staff

Review 22:Nothing

Review 23:The rooms were really nice the bed was so comfortable the breakfast amazing but most of all the staff were wonderful efficent & friendly this hotel was a gem.

Review 24:Lift was out of order - but it wasn't a big deal. No car park.

Review 25:Very friendly staff. Good breakfast - lots to choose from. Very, very smiley, very friendly and lovely receptionist. Nicely presented large room and large en-suite bathroom. Free parking outside from 6pm to 8am.

Review 26:Not enough cooked vegetable options for breakfast if you're a paleo diet eater. I would have liked to see fried kale available.

Review 27:Great staff, good value, great location.

Review 28:The breakfast was bad! Scrambled egg looked like it had been nuked in a microwave. Most disappointing.

Review 29:Very comfy rooms, friendly staff & beautiful surroundings

Review 30:Parking was a bit of an issue as building works going on around the hotel area but the staff were helpful in suggesting places.

Review 31:Clean, warm and cosy room. The staff are all very friendly and efficient. Breakfast was excellent and as the hot food was cooked to order it was very fresh and hot.

Review 32:A very good Saturday night stay. Rooms warm and clean with all the extras that you need for a comfortable night.Situated in the town centre and only a few minutes walking to all the amenities, parking on site a plus as well at £7.00 a night.

Review 33:Don't sleep on the front as there is a night club that plays loud music, although they did stop about 11.30pm

Review 34:Good central location. Fabulous breakfast, nothing too much trouble. Staff very good.

Review 35:With it being an old building it was only single glazed and it was very noisy outside the hotel.

Review 36:The staff were really friendly and helpful and the bed was incredibly comfortable.

Review 37:All the staff are so helpful and friendly- nothing is too much trouble.Stayed here several times and the staff really do make this hotel something special - plus the breakfasts are fantastic!

Review 38:Hotel had limited parking but advised if you wanted car out and in regularly it was not suitable as other cars might block you in son used multi story pay car about 300 m away £8.50 for 24 hrs soon reasonably priced.

Review 39:Hotel was central and relatively easy to find. Breakfast service and food very good. Reception staff polite and helpful at check in an out. Ate in attached Italian themed restaurant which was good.

Review 40:Outdated interiors and facilities. Stuffy room with noisy club/bar on street side. Old fashioned key which just doesn't feel as secure as new cards.

Review 41:Location and helpful staff.

Review 42:Staff are really superb - without exception polite but friendly, and extremely helpful. Breakfast is above the average for hotels with a supposedly higher star rating - with pleasant and efficient service. Decoration of the public areas is fresh, stylish, and appropriately elegant. Wifi works perfectly, without any fuss with codes and delays.

Review 43:Our executive room was lovely and spacious. Great wet room! The staff were very friendly too. A very enjoyable stay even though it was for only 1 night.

Review 44:Great location, bedroom was a great size with a very comfortable bed and the bathroom was outstanding. Best cooked breakfast weve had in a long time. All the staff were exceptional, couldnt do enough for us, very friendly and approachable. Had a great stay.

Review 45:This was our third stay at The White Swan; and again it was a pleasure to be here. The staff are wonderful; the rooms are excellent and the breakfasts superb. It would have been our fourth stay had the hotel not been fully booked; it is easy to understand why. Terrific service and value.

Review 46:Rooms a little Spartan and everything was brown. Definitely could do with a makeover. Woken very early by refuse collection vehicle.

Review 47:Julios Italian in basement was fantastic and saved me having to hunt elsewhere for dinner. Hotel staff friendly and professional.

Review 48:construction opposite hotel started at 5am would have been great if they had have disclosed this prior to booking with the noise it was hard not to know this was going on.

Review 49:not much

Review 50:No free parking

Review 51:Loved the cosy atmosphere of the hotel. Lovely generous amounts of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits provide in the bedroom. Bathroom had soap showed jel and shampoo bottles which was very lovely. Overall a lovely room comfortable room.

Review 52:The staff were joy, from the friendly welcome of the evening staff to the bubbly personality and helpful guidance for ongoing directions from the morning receptionist. Waitress staff during breakfast we friendly too. Great older building too which makes a change from the modern chains.

Review 53:When we turned in to sleep at around 10.30pm after being tired from travelling down from Scotland, all we could hear was some sort of extraction fans from kitchens going all the time. Very annoying. Tried to muffle the noise by placing my pillows between my ears. Thankfully after about 11.00pm it went off then we fell off to sleep eventually. In the morning the receptionist did apologise as I was saying I was on the verge of requesting a room change.

Review 54:The space we had in the room. Central in the town. Clean and comfortable. Reception Staff. The breakfast.

Review 55:The friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff was outstanding. Location right in the centre of town is great. Building is charming and part of Halifax's history.

Review 56:No bar area.but there are plenty of bars within walking distance so not a problem.

Review 57:Frindly helpful staff. Efficient. Comfortable. Staff had a sense of humour. Good breakfast. Very friendly relaxing atmosphere.

Review 58:Room at back very quiet in the evening, however loud thumping music from 10.30-6pm from building behind disturbed lie in and peace during the day

Review 59:Quality linen, very comfortable bed, large room and bathroom, great room service from Italian restaurant - very good value

Review 60:The fitness room had four machines. Only one was working - the treadmill. You have to go to floor two for an iron in the 'laundry room'. The boards were covered in stains and the room smelt. Even premier inn give you irons and boards on request! Breakfast was only 'ok', nothing more. The hotel is out-dated and I can't understand why it is getting such good reviews!

Review 61:The room

Review 62:There could of been more choice for breakfast also had a room facing the road the traffic noisey from 6am onwards.

Review 63:The ease of booking in and the friendliness of the staff.

Review 64:I have no complaints about the white swan hotel.

Review 65:The staff at the White swan hotel were amazing. So polite and would do anything for you. All staff looked as though they were happy to be there and that makes a huge difference to a stay in a hotel. The man that worked the evenings at the reception/bar especially was amazing and extremely helpful. There was a fair few of us staying there and stayed up late both nights for a night cap. I would highly recommend staying there.

Review 66:Parking could be a bit difficult but we managed to park in the hotel car park

Review 67:Right in the centre of the town within walking distance of everything. Staff were great and breakfast was delicious. We used the hotel's Italian restaurant and had a great meal. Would definitely recommend.

Review 68:We liked everything about the hotel. We had no complaints.

Review 69:The room was excellent. And the lady who worked on the reception desk was very charming and friendly. And nothing was too much trouble for her.

Review 70:no extractor fan in the bathroom and window tricky to open; curtains 3 ins too short so light flooded into the room next morning; Halifax town centre being re-developed with lots of roads being cut off and made one way and sat nav had no idea where to locate the hotel, really lucky that I had Googled the location and spotted it was round the corner from the Town Hall otherwise we'd never have found it. Reception area seriously in need of an upgrade, let's the hotel down.

Review 71:Took a de luxe suite which included a separate sitting area with settee and tv, made a lot of extra space. Room was large with spacious bathroom, all furnished to a high standard. Good breakfast; very helpful staff (well done Brett).

Review 72:Lack of disable (blue badge) parking, advised by hotel staff to use MacDonalds disable bays over 100m from hotel. On arrival garage was full.... But front desk sign advertised £7 a day for Garage parking. Lots of Stairs.... Really old lift. Kitchen staff could be a little quieter at breakfast ... Yelling thru the kitchen, sharing the previous nights mischief. Or mocking residents choices.

Review 73:Very Clean, fresh paint, obliging staff. On hottest day of the year, did provide additional cooling electric fan. Breakfast was very nice. Room 314 was clean comfortable, no views. Unable to use Free Wifi.

Review 74:The Hotel is centrally situated, an easy walk around the town. We were able to park the car right outside the Hotel the evening of our arrival and in the garage the next day. The breakfast choice was excellent. The Italian Restaurant next door offered an earlybird deal which was very good. The staff were welcoming and helpful. I really can't fault this place and would recommend it to anyone. The week end deal is very good value for money.

Review 75:I stayed there before and had a quieter (double glazed) and more recently refurbished room that time round.

Review 76:Good sized room. friendly staff, great breakfast. plenty of tea and coffee supplies in room. Drinks available frokm night porter if you want quiet evening in.

Review 77:One couple thought front of house room noisy at night but all others even with front rooms were fine.

Review 78:Visited Hebden bridge and Sowerby bridge as well as a walk around Halifax. Meal in the restaurant saturday evening

Review 79:There's no bar ! They serve a few drinks from reception. No pints or peanuts though ! They have the hotel standard issue thimble sized fruit juice glasses for breakfast.

Review 80:Nice comfy hotel, right in the town centre, but in a quiet side road. Spacious rooms, possibly a little dated, but spotlessly clean. Working TV and Internet ! Super filling proper English breakfast.

Review 81:The light bulbs in the wall lights were far too bright! 60w is overkill considering the closeness of the fittings to the bed and the Widness of the shades. 25w bulbs would be sufficient! I woke during the night and was blinded when I switched the bedside light on.

Review 82:Friendly staff, immaculately clean, very close to the city centre

Review 83:- Room was dated with an old yellow carpet with stains in the corner - The room I was in is right opposite McDonalds in the centre of Halifax and very noisy both late at night and at 4am in the morning! - There are no plug sockets by the bed which would have been useful while my phone was needing to be charged whilst using it as an alarm clock - They charge £10 for breakfast! Not made clear at the time of booking and extortionate when you only want cereal and toast. - The bathroom is old and dated

Review 84:- Staff were helpful

Review 85:Bed had memory form mattress, which we were not used too, but not a problem, just need to be aware.

Review 86:Great hotel in the centre of the town so lots of choice, including restaurants and cinema, also closed to local bars for a relaxing drink. Hotel was clean, very friendly and when we asked for a different room due to the eaves being a problem with my boyfriend being 6ft 2, this was not a problem and sorted straight away, car was also parked in a secure parking area and returned on your request.

Review 87:It is such a shame that drunken people on the streets in the early hours of the morning cause a problem for everyone else. It is not your fault. But the Police need to clean up their act. Why is alcohol at town venues still obviously being sold until the early hours of the morning ?

Review 88:A beautiful building. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Lovely bathroom.super breakfast No complaints whatsoever.

Review 89:Wrong information given by booking.com about parking facilities on site. There are only a few spaces available on site. I only book hotels that can provide on site parking and secure. Very disappointed with booking.com on this time.

Review 90:Staff were helpful and very friendly. As there was no parking available we were told to park in the multi-story car park. As we drive a VW transporter our vehicle is too high for these kind of parking areas. The staff rang to find out the height the car park would take. We had about 2 ins above our roof. The staff at the hotel were fab. They even gave us a complimentary drink for the inconveniences. I only book hotels that can provide parking on site and secure. .

Review 91:They parked my car in a secure garage. the staff were so lovely and friendly. The room was modern and the bathroom was new with a great shower. Also the free wifi was fast.

Review 92:Parking, if there was any for the hotel I don't know where it was, then again I never asked.

Review 93:Friendly and organised staff who were genuinely happy to help.

Review 94:no proper bar to sit and relax in,, we had traveled down to halifax to visit relatives and would have preferred to stay in the hotel with relatives joining for short while and relax

Review 95:comfort,, friendly staff,, cozy

Review 96:Nothing!

Review 97:Spotlessly clean, perfect location, the staff was friendly and helpful, lovely cooked breakfast, All round pleasant time, could have stayed longer!

Review 98:The staff were excellent and did everything they could to help. Due to arriving late on the Friday and limited parking we managed to get a spot round the corner on a meter charge but had to move it by 10:00 am the next day. The receptionist informed us as to where to re-locate the car to a multi storey for £7:00/24 hrs. On going to move the car she told us that a space had become available in there garage and we just gave her the keys and it was sorted by them. A thoroughly enjoyable stay. Thank You.

Review 99:Large airy and very clean room. Good central location. Staff very polite, professional and friendly. Secure parking. Excellent Italian restaurant linked to hotel.

Review 100:All the staff were really friendly and helpful. They even got our car out of the garage for us when we left. The room was very clean, comfortable and quiet. The bathroom was if with lovely toiletries. Breakfast was really good.

Review 101:The only minor quibble was the breakfast waitress who was very pleasant but didn't listen to what people said to her and insisted on playing music very loud - we had to ask to have it turned down 2 mornings out of 3.

Review 102:Room was huge, spotlessly clean, well equipped. Free WiFi very quick. Comfortable bed, slept really well. Centrally located in Halifax but pretty quiet, even in front rooms. Reception and housekeeping staff very professional, friendly and efficient. Will definitely stay here again!

Review 103:The rooms were very dated in fact I felt like I was in a room from the 70's really needs a re-vamp.

Review 104:The staff were very friendly and helpfull and the breakdast was lovely

Review 105:Wife found the bed a little firm, but I thought it ok. Room warm, but with window open a noisy street cleaning vehicle (I think that's what it was) was driving back and forth for some time between 3 - 4 a.m. Thought it was in room.

Review 106:Made to feel very welcome by cheerful staff. Excellent wi-fi and superb breakfast.

Review 107:It's close to late night entertainment which might be issue for some but exception point for others.

Review 108:A well located hotel with great customer service. Room was clean, tidy and a good price. Staff were friendly and polite.

Review 109:Finding a previous guest's underwear in the bottom of the wardrobe, but reception quickly removed this. Parking is limited so you may have to park on the street.

Review 110:The restaurant in the basement, Julio's, is fantastic. You can enjoy a meal there and head back upstairs when you are ready which works well.

Review 111:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing too much trouble. From parking our car on arrival to delivering it back outside our hotel ready for our departure the next morning. The breakfast was well presented and the cooked food was excellent.

Review 112:Hotel had great original features and all the staff were very friendly and genuinely wanted to please. Room was quite small but had all we needed and bed was very comfy.

Review 113:Nothing maybe a bar where you can sit at but the small one behind reception was adequate but I haven't a bad word to say

Review 114:The staff were excerlent the young lady on reception was very helpfull and nothing was too much and was nice to be greeted with smiles

Review 115:No Complaints we could not find any faults

Review 116:We stayed for one night the staff where very good the room was large and very comfortable and the breakfast was also very good. This is our first visit to this hotel but we will return keep up the good work.

Review 117:This feels more like a 4* hotel. Admittedly the public areas are nothing to write home about (although perfectly serviceable) but the bedrooms are great. Beds are comfy, bathrooms modern and clean. The staff here are enormously helpful and nothing seems to be too much trouble. There is an Italian restaurant next door which I haven't been to, but the food can be ordered up to your room and is very good - hand-cooked food with fresh vegetables. The price is comparable with a Premier Inn, but the location is better, the food is WAY better and the rooms are nicer.

Review 118:All staff but especially reception were exceptionally friendly, helpful, and a pleasure to be with! Other Hotels need to see this example of how properly trained staff make all the difference to a stay at a Hotel.

Review 119:i am being very very picky here, i like a firm bed but this was a bit too soft. Cant fault anything else.

Review 120:room, location, price, helpful and friendly staff

Review 121:A bottle of water in the room (else minibar or at least a hint that tap water is very good / drinkable - if applicable) would be helpful. Hair/blow dryer would ideally be stronger. No safe deposit box in room.

Review 122:Strong in what's really important: sturdy bed, substantial shower with good hot/cold separation, free and instant WiFi, personalized breakfast with very good choice.

Review 123:Secure parking was a bit restricted and the bed spread appeared very slightly grubby. However this wouldn't deter me from returning.

Review 124:It was an ideal location and our room was very quiet, which was what we wanted. The staff were very helpful.

Review 125:Not at all it was brilliant

Review 126:All of it especially the large seated area in the reception. Also the room was excellent value and very spacious and well thought out

Review 127:disappointed with our bathroom this time when it was so spectacular on our last visit. Good location but no real effort to sort out easy decent parking.

Review 128:easy registration; nice room; lovely breakfast; and good location at the heart of a hidden gem - Halifax

Review 129:Car parking inadequate at the busiest times.

Review 130:Very friendly knowledgeable staff. Extremely comfortable bed and an amazing breakfast. As we had our big dog with us we found the size of the room very adequate. The bathroom was modern, nice and clean with a good shower.
