Reviews for Arenal Paraiso Resort & Spa
Review 1:No wifi in room Room was old, outdated, needs renovation Uncomfortable beds Very complicated shower knobs Far from town ($10 taxi) and only restaurant is expensive
Review 2:Hot springs Beautiful grounds
Review 3:Nothing negative, except couldn't see the volcano which obviously wasn't the hotel's fault. Loved it!
Review 4:Beautiful grounds, outstanding buffet breakfast, very friendly staff, great!
Review 5:The room wasn't that nice, it seemed quite old. Ants got into our food bag and they were crawls into the seams of the fridge. The only free thing at the "spa" was the gym which was a little sad. The WiFi is only at the restaurant or way over at the reception which was a hastle.
Review 6:The room had AC and a little fridge which was nice. Shower had hot water and the hot spring pools were nice and relaxing. Not many people in them.
Review 7:At the last night the hotel mengment decidedt to evacuate all the guests to other hotel for renovations. But still best hotel
Review 8:All was great, don't hesitate
Review 9:My friend and I arrived a few hours before the check in time. They told us they would let us know if it was ready sooner. They said was ready at the time of check in but the bathroom floor was wet and it smelled bad.
Review 10:The room was comfortable. The spa was clean and the treatment I bought was well worth the price. The resort's restaurant had a lovely view of the volcano.
Review 11:The hot springs pools are numerous but all small -- with two small ones containing the warmest waters (therefore where everyone goes) and the others cooler and gets no usage. Lighting around at night around the hot springs areas could be very helpful- in rainy times, one could slip.
Review 12:The restaurant facilites are top notch with attentive service.
Review 13:Lack of Vegetarian choices in Restaurant, bad delay while checking in.
Review 14:Great Breakfast varieties, close proximity to city and activities, beautiful landscape
Review 15:The resort should offer free shuttle transfer to town given how far away it is. If the restaraunt and tours were not so overpriced it wouldn't be a big deal however you can expect to pay nearly double for some tours if you book through the hotel. There are also much much better and affordable places to eat in town. A much better option is to stay at a cheap clean place in town (there are many and most will not appear online) and use the saved money to go to Baldi or Tabacon hot springs. Many reviews talked about how good the food was but it wasn't. I booked 4 nights. Biggest mistake of my two weeks in costa rica. My advice is to just show up as they seem to set some rooms aside for walk-ins and ask to walk around the place first before booking.
Review 16:Relaxing in the hot springs at night. Only two are worth getting into though and they will probably be overcrowded.
Review 17:Our Cabana was basic. Wi Fi only available in the lobby and the restaurant, not in rooms.
Review 18:Good Buffet, nice pools and spa, very good location to the volcano and town.
Review 19:Rooms could use some renovation (especially they could invest in new bathtowels!). I would also appreciate if some umbrellas were available since it rains a lot in this area. For me this hotel was not worth its price...
Review 20:Nice volcano view, hiking possibility from the hotel
Review 21:we didnt have wifi in the room, only in the reception or pool area.
Review 22:This is a great hotel. Beautiful garden and pool area...no need to go to other hot pools and pay a pricey entrance fee. The room was big, comfy and quiet! Breakfast has a big variety of fruits, cooked things as well as bread etc.
Review 23:credit card was surprisingly charged in advance! price was little higher than booked! (still waiting for booking.com replay) wifi reception weak, speed slow (probably a common issue in the area i think...?) there are cheaper options available in the area (but probably without the hot springs?)
Review 24:the resort is really nice, its bungalows are spacious and comfortable, with great view of vucano from the rocking chairs of the veranda. staff helpful and friendly, breakfast good and plenty really loved the hot springs in the resort, super relaxing to "chill" out in the warm mineral water until 10pm in the evening.
Review 25:The workout room needs upgrading Check in at 3 is ridiculous if they have rooms they should just let first come first serve have them .afterall people have been traveling from all over the world
Review 26:Grounds
Review 27:Spa treatments are very expensive
Review 28:Scenery is amazing. Hot springs are so relaxing. Large, comfortable lodge. Restaurant is good and not overly expensive, but not cheap at the same time. Breakfasts are great with a good selection.
Review 29:I arranged private transport to and from the San Jose airport. The Van did not have air which was fine because the weather was nice but we were blown to pieces by the time we arrived at our destination. the seats of the van were cracked and didn't look or feel great. It wasn't a great first impression and we were pleasantly surprised that the resort was much nicer. Also, the driver of the van on our way back to the airport was horrible!!!! He drove very crazy, getting way too close to cars and was even texting and driving. People were yelling at him because he was driving too aggressive.
Review 30:We loved the location and the individual lodges. The zip lining on the grounds were excellent and just right for all of us. The staff were gracious and helpful. View of the volcano was excellent and the hot springs were wonderful.
Review 31:The restaurant was mediocre, except for breakfast. The bed wasn't very comfortable and the sheets were scratchy.
Review 32:We enjoyed the wet bar. The best part was the Mayin Special that we booked since it was a rainy day. This scrub/ wrap, massage and facial made me feel like a queen preparing for a festival. The breakfast buffet was really great too. The pools were really nice. There are at least seven which vary in temperate, getting cooler as you go down. These felt great and the landscaping surrounding the pools were beautiful.
Review 33:We tired of the constant rain, day after day, for a week. The only view of the volcano was by way of a post card. I would suggest you watch you credit card...I was charged twice for one charge...at least that's my assumption. I've left messages by e-mail, the phone # on the statement and internet does not connect you to the venue. I have not had a response so will be filing a complaint through VISA.
Review 34:The hot pools were wonderful.
Review 35:The toilet kept running and although the staff came to fix it in a timely manner, it kept leaking. Also, the shower was not well grout ed so after each shower the bathroom floor was wet.
Review 36:The staff was very helpful, courteous and friendly. It was very quiet and relaxing.
Review 37:Wifi only worked at the reception area.
Review 38:Location was perfect, all was clean, breakfast was complete, restaurant was really good with local and international options. You could park the car right in front of your cabin.
Review 39:spa.... booked spa for two... ordered volcano body wrap but it smelled a lot like the chocolate wrap.. my mother had the same experience... at the end of the spa treatment turned out that they only had one personal working on BOTH of US going back and forth between two rooms... also the spa room located near the pool... very noisy and didnt get to relax
Review 40:hotel and facility very nice and clean.... food is good...

Review 55:Small run down, noisy/very thin walls, worn out towels, miss leading ad for the room.
Review 56:Grounds and staff were great, restaurant was very good.
Review 57:Bed. Room No wifi in room Room was infested with bugs and lizards. Ant colony was in the shower. Hot springs not hot. But dirty.
Review 58:Location
Review 59:Horseback riding guide, Marco. Knowledgeable, courteous and patient. Whatever you pay him, it isn't enough!
Review 60:Pool, hot springs
Review 61:Small bed.
Review 62:The staff go above and beyond.
Review 63:Beds could use some better pillows. They were large and hard.
Review 64:Nice cabin. Great hot spring pools. Friendly staff in the restaurant.
Review 65:Only the wifi because it isn't available in the room.
Review 66:The room, the shower, the garden and the SPA
Review 67:Breakfast Poor wi-fi connection

Review 71:It was way to expecive comring to other places in this erea.
Review 72:Hot spirngs and wetbar are nice the resturant offer good breakfast.
Review 73:gray mist, not able to see the volcano
Review 74:Clean and Staff were great
Review 75:Loved the hot springs on site, especially at night
Review 76:NOTHING!
Review 77:The canopy guides (Ron and Raphael) were FABULOUS!They were very knowledgable, patient, friendly and helpful. Their love of their country, and pride in its efforts to maintain its pristine nature is evident in everything they share with visitors. ALL of the staff were extremely friendly, and took pleasure in helping those of us who speak little or no Spanish! The food in the restaurant was wonderful. I highly recommend Aenal Paraiso if you are in the area.
Review 78:My only complaint was/is: for the amount of money I spent on the room for two nights the hotel should have a shuttle that runs into town to pick up and drop off guests. They have their own van to drop people off at villas, so I don't know why it couldn't do a scheduled drop into town a few times a day (so multiple people would have to sign up for a single drop off time). Not a complaint, but just a suggestion for future guests. I would recommend finding another place to eat at night. I only ate at the resort one evening, but found the food very bland. I would have rather eaten at a soda in town.
Review 79:I loved that my villa faced the volcano. It was a wonderful view and the traffic from the road wasn't bad at all. All of the vegetation was very nice to see around the resort. The hot springs were also very well done. I loved being able to walk the path and choose the level of temperature I was comfortable with. Their main swimming pool was beautiful, perfect temperature. Their breakfast buffet is amazing! There were alot of options to choose from and fresh fruit available too. So impressed with the quality of food in the morning.
Review 80:The restaurant was mediocre and pricey. The beds weren't great.
Review 81:The hot springs were nice. The view and location were amazing. We had a fantastic time in the area.
Review 82:Everything was lovely, but at the pool side bathroom, the showers did not have a shower door - I would recommend for privacy.
Review 83:The staff were truly friendly and professional. We arrived at night, so I had no idea that my cabin was facing the volcano - it was such an amazing surprise to see the volcano when I woke up. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Review 84:Everything!
Review 85:Hot springs, breakfast
Review 86:the wrist bracelet made you feel like you had to wear a collar like a pet
