Reviews for Tabacon Grand Spa Thermal Resort

Review 1:This was our first vacation together, first time in Costa Rica, and first experience with a hotel that was 100% service oriented. The way we were greeted was amazing and all the help we received with travel information and guest services was incredible.

Review 2:Beautiful place, very nice staff, the spa is awsome, the hotel worth it's price. But the food in the restaurant is not only the worst you could have in a restaurant but it's the most expensive worst food. If you not eat there, it's a very good place to stay.

Review 3:The changes to the area of the falls. We are returning guest and prefer the hot springs without all the cement benches. We arrived at the springs 10:30 am and there was nothing available to eat until noon.

Review 4:The staff was professional and accommodating to our needs.

Review 5:it is far from the city and it is difficult cu by something you need. The food price at the hotel is very expensive

Review 6:The personal are verry veryy friendly and location is beautiful. The thermal spring area it is amazing: there are a lot of natual and atrificial pools surrounded by lush vegetation.

Review 7:Loved everything about the Tabacon (service was beyond superior) except bed was a bit small. Didnt seem like a typical american king size bed. Hot Springs were amazing!

Review 8:The food is outrageously expensive. The pillows we're too flat and the bathrooms are dated and a little dingy.

Review 9:The hot springs and staff are incredible. Everything is clean and comfortable. Great place.

Review 10:Overpriced for what it is. Better places in arenal area for the price. Hot springs nice for a day but hotel cost includes for entire length of stay ~60 dollars.

Review 11:Most of staff pretty helpful. Front desk understaffed particularly for 8am morning checkout. Quick walk to springs. Far from everything else.

Review 12:The only thing that isn't so great is how far it is located from the center of town. A ride into town will cost you 8,000 colones/ $16 each way.

Review 13:The newly renovated rooms are beautiful! Breakfast was great, just a bit pricey. The hot springs are a great experience.

Review 14:From the minute we drove up to reception we were greeted with smiles and welcoming faces. After a very long and crazy ride from San Jose airport it was comforting to feel so relaxed as soon as we stepped in the lobby. Reception was professional and accommodating of any requests. Our room was huge , the in room jacuzzi was such a treat after a very long day of travel. The room had every thing we needed and more! The grounds are immaculate. The restaurant on premise is a bit pricey but worth every penny, portions are huge ! If you are a small eater you can easily split meals and be satisfied. We split the typical breakfast every day it was perfect. The atmosphere is very relaxing with a large pool fountain near by. If you are expecting to see the volcano from here as in the pictures , don't. We were told come to see everything else, if you happen to see the top of the volcano you are lucky. The spa a short shuttle or nice walk away made the trip worth while. We did not want to leave! The hot spring pools were so relaxing and fun, it was a day worth spending..

Review 15:The food was no good. It is much better to eat in local restaurants. Very exspensive meals for the quality of a supermarket-restaurant The staff was very nice but totally stressed The room was fine with lots of extra's but not special

Review 16:Super-location with very good service Hot-springs and the exceptional enviroment were a special experience

Review 17:I had requested two beds for Maureen Murray room but this was not what we got. Very inconvenient as a sofa bed needed to be used for the second female in the room. I understand your agency is notorious for not passing along the correct booking request. I won't be using your service again as my friends were quite upset with this error.

Review 18:Buffet is $40 per person!! If you eat a lot its worth it. Italian buffet was the best, not so much Asian. The resort is also located far away from a town so it ends up being an $18 cab fare each way!!

Review 19:Each night after a long day of activities, we got to soak in the hot springs. What better way to end off the day! The resort has an enormous springs bath and you can find private areas to hang out with your friends. It's also situated in the jungle so its very mystical at night .Favorite part of the stay!

Review 20:hotsprings is gorgeous but not all rooms have been renovated and are overpriced for what they are. its not an issue to stay somewhere else and use the hotspring facilities

Review 21:hotsprings are beautiful and the spa is truly worth experiencing. a very special place.

Review 22:Breakfast buffet was amazing but quite pricey.

Review 23:The resort allows you to escape to a world of beauty, relaxation and pampering. The hot spring pools are spread out so that you have privacy and a variety of settings. Don't miss Shangri la!

Review 24:I reserved 2 queen beds in case my husband coiuld come with my daughter and myself at the last minute. Sure enough he could come! But I couldn't find how to change the reservation for 3 instead of 2. I didn't think it would be a big deal since breakfast wasn't included in our rate anyway, and I had reserved 2 queens. Well they told me I reserved a king and it was the last room they had. They also charged us an additional $68 per day! Suddenly it wasn't such a bargain!

Review 25:Mediocre food, lack of a coffee shop where we could have picked up something quick and cheaper to go

Review 26:Staff were first rate; entrance fee to Thermal Spa included in room rate a big help

Review 27:On arrival I was asked to pay in advance, despite offering to guarantee the stay with my credit card. The hostess in the restaurant refused to assign us the table we were asking for in advance for our anniversary dinner booking - although we were the first booking of the day. We decided to have dinner in town (Btw a great decision). No bath mat and no hand towels supplied. Linen not changed despite the fact that we asked for it. No replacement of amenities. Although staff tends to be very friendly, the level of customer service is very low - at their rates you can expect a lot more... very disappointing stay

Review 28:Awesome hot springs

Review 29:Just that they were extremely strict about check-in at exactly 3:00 p.m. and we had arrived very early due to our transport service. Even when we checked back at 2:00, they would not even check for us. Also would have appreciated their telling us that the hot springs are open at 8, just no towel service, because we told them we like to go early in the morning.

Review 30:We really enjoyed the flowing hot springs with waterfalls and lush tropical garden setting. Our dinner at Los Tucanes was also memorable for the fine guitar and violin musician who played on the night of Saturday, March 07. The service staff are friendly and helpful and the turn-down service very nice.

Review 31:A bit too americanised.

Review 32:The hotel is a typical 5* with all the facilities. However, I would recommend to stay in this hotel for the hot springs which are the best in Arenal and truly exceptional, we had a fantastic time there! You can go to the hot springs without staying at the hotel but you have to pay an entrance fee whereas it is free if you are a guest hotel and they provide a free shuttle service, even though it is a 5 min walk.

Review 33:nothing is bad, but they don't need the heavy comforters.. they also don't need to insist on valet parking (which we avoided)

Review 34:great restaurant, pool, and of course the hot springs

Review 35:not enough tables for dinner in the hotel's only restaurant. need to reserve a day in advance for getting a table. no other good options if you don't like buffet at the spa.

Review 36:the spa is fantastic. the suite was huge and very comfortable.

Review 37:Most of rooms don't have terraces or balconies, lack of privacy, no benches or hammocks in the gardens, very isolated, no hiking trails or other places to walk, overpriced

Review 38:Hot springs, very tasty lunches

Review 39:The Shangri-La Pools at the top of the Spa and Resort were amazing! Michael the bartender and host was extremely accommodating. Enjoyed a nighttime downpour in one of the Cabanas...outstanding!

Review 40:The bathroom in our room was not clean. at first they were trying to say that maybe left the do not disturb sign on but we just checked in into a dirty bathroom. At the end they changed and upgraded our room.

Review 41:The hot springs

Review 42:none

Review 43:the hot spring is very good and free entrance if you stay. Free shuttle from the hotel to the hot spring. Staff very friendly and room is very spacious.

Review 44:- We were assigned one of the hotel rooms with a door into another room. Unfortunately, a family with noisy young children was staying there and disturbed our sleep

Review 45:- The spa is amazing and makes it absolutely worth staying at Tabacon

Review 46:Food price too hight, small portions, in the restaurant. Further, lunch and dinner in the buffet in the spa are pricey.

Review 47:Friendly, warm and luxurious. A place that spoils you.

Review 48:Dark rooms, I couldn't even read by the light in the bedroom. Saggy beds, they have seen better days. Offhand staff with very poor Americanized English, neither my husband nor I could understand them. To us the place had no character nor style whatsoever. Overpriced.

Review 49:Compared to other hotels in area in same price range the Hotel is dated and expensive and can do with an update.

Review 50:Close to Thermal Spa and convinient location

Review 51:Resturant at hot spring only offered salad buffet due to low visitor traffic. The staffs at the restaurant in the hotel were not very friendly. We asked for a missing silverware set and glass after arrival. The waiter first tried to defend that there was no missing set and then shows impatient attitute when brought us the missing silver set. The tip is included in the bill so the waiter might not care.

Review 52:HBeautiful hot spring and friendly front desk staff and bell boys. Fast shuttle service between hotel lobby and the hot spring.

Review 53:The food cost a lot here (breakfast/dinner) - so we couldn't afford to eat there at all.

Review 54:We really liked everything about this hotel! the staff, the room, the wifi, the hot springs!! Wait to come to Costa Rica again only because of this hotel. Highly recommended!!

Review 55:What' s not to like? We did not eat at the expensive on site restaurants either for breakfast or dinner, but drove our rental car to town to try out all the great restaurants there.

Review 56:I couldn't get enough of the paradise-like thermal springs. Everything was emaculate, serene & enticing. I wanted to try out each of what seemed like 20 steamy, natural waterfall pools. Staying at the Tabacon Resort for 3 nights let me access the pools morning & night.

Review 57:The drive to/from San Jose.

Review 58:Hot spring waters in the rain forest at the base of a volcano. Need I say more. Even the rain could not dampen the wonderful experience. The staff, facilities and the nature were absolutely incredible.

Review 59:We were a little disappointed that the thermal springs are not actually on the same grounds as the hotel. You can take a short walk to the springs, but you have to walk along a highway with no sidewalks. They do, however, have a free van service that runs throughout the day.

Review 60:The thermal springs are beautiful and there are plenty of different springs and areas to explore.

Review 61:Their vegatarian options on the menu were limited, but the food was delicious once we got it. Be careful when ordering drinks. They will charge you 10$ for a gin tonic and then charge you 4$ extra for the tonic. It took us by suprise, but seemed to be totally normal to the staff there.

Review 62:We stayed in October (low season) so we got a great discount on our stay. The room was beautiful and spacious. The staff were friendly and helpful and their hot springs are a must see.

Review 63:Breakfast is way overpriced and a bit confusing but still excellent service and setting.

Review 64:The natural setting well preserved and integrated with a wonderful display of local fauna. Dinner and service were excellent. Bed was top notch. Everything was very clean and great staff everywhere.

Review 65:Food quality at restaurant was average Breakfast buffet was decent but incredibly over priced.

Review 66:Accomodations, the suite was clean, spacious and modern Hot Springs were amazing! The Spa

Review 67:a bit pricey.

Review 68:great location for hot springs. hotel very clean and great if like hot springs. springs very clean and beautiful and natural. not overdone. family love it. definately stay for one night.

Review 69:- completely overpriced - this is 3 star standard but by no means 5!! - Breakfast is horrible - insects on food but noone seemed to care, overpriced, no options - rooms were not done by 4pm - had to call - concierge tried to charge us a $30 transportation fee - per person, for a 10min ride when we had a rental car ourselves - dinner buffet in Spa restaurant is very pool

Review 70:Spa facilities were nice - yet would never pay the daily standard rate to see it.

Review 71:a little hiccup with our room when we first got there but it all worked out.

Review 72:Our room was amazing, the beautiful setting, the hot springs and the pools,...we were there everyday...the rain and thunder only added to the atmosphere, we loved it!!!....and it has a great gym that we used everyday

Review 73:The food was very overpriced at the resort.

Review 74:The proximity to the actual hot springs (5 mins walk) and that the nightly hotel rate includes $60 passes to the hot springs.

Review 75:-getting to town cost 25 dollars for a 5 minute ride and there are no other options to town except in the expensive taxi. -the room at the hotel is comfortable but quite boring, nothing special, not worth 200 dollars a night. The property itself with the hot springs were beautiful though. -the restaurants are expensive, so yo hare forced to eat there or take a 25 dollar cab ride to town each way to eat for a little cheaper.

Review 76:The staff was incredibly helpful and polite and friendly and the hot springs were amazing!!!

Review 77:2 days is plenty unless you like all the adventure sports. A VERY long drive around the lake to get here-3-4 hours from Liberia airport. Nice experience but I would not do it again.

Review 78:Beautiful facility. Amazing maze of pools and waterfalls in natural hot springs. Beautiful lush landscaping. The hour before the pools open to the general public was nice. Very serene without all the outside guests come. Fantastic spa facility. A must do experience if you come here!

Review 79:Staff not helpful. Had to ask for ice, phone messages multiple times. Mediocre rooms not worth the cost

Review 80:Beautiful thermal springs

Review 81:None

Review 102:The hot Springs were wonderful. Definitely worth the stay just for that.

Review 103:No ala carte breakfast options
