Reviews for Hotel Lomas del Volcan

Review 1:There was a spring bed which was not very comfortable to sleep on but the location, amazing views, and price made up for this.

Review 2:Sweet little bungalow in a gorgeous location with views of the volcano. The bungalow was surrounded by beautiful plants and trees which were well tended to. There is an infinity pool and jacuzzi with views of the volcano which is really nice. We asked the front desk staff for directions to our destination and she was was really sweet and drew us out exactly where we needed to go. The location of the hotel is right outside of the La Fortuna town so it is really close to all restaurants and activities. This was a great value hotel - good bang for the buck!

Review 3:Not their fault but it rained the whole time so only time we saw the volcano was on our waiters iPhone.

Review 4:Lots of animals around the property and landscaping was lush.

Review 5:The lodging was beautiful, and the scenery was amazing. We enjoyed the restaurant, the pool and hot-tub, and the staff was really helpful and friendly.

Review 6:- Breakfast was repetitive but reasonably tasty, dinner menu was overpriced and underwhelming. - When running the air conditioner in our cabana both my wife and I became very congested; it's possible that there is significant mold growth somewhere in the A/C system. - 1km bumpy road to the hotel from the main road

Review 7:- Great location just about on the slope of the Arenal Volcano, and a fantastic pool view. - Cabana was comfortable and clean

Review 8:Our 3 days of illness began with their food and water. Reheated soup, food left in warming pans... and the water? Safest is a small place where you get fresh cooking. The "lomas soup" may have been a culprit. It may have been something else, but the timing points here.

Review 9:Beautiful grounds, landscaping, pool.

Review 10:The road to the highway is rough and the wifi was a little unreliable.

Review 11:Beautiful location, excellent breakfast, great rooms, nice pool and sauna, convenient access to phenomenal attractions.

Review 12:Not really possible to walk into town due to long dark track to get to the hotel, but a can was relatively cheap. Not much to do at the hotel but if you go to Arenal it's to be out and about!

Review 13:Very nice surroundings and peaceful

Review 14:wished we booked a bungalow instead of the connected row of rooms.. Our fault!

Review 15:Loved this place! Traveling with a friend and did a day at SkyTrek and wish we had more time to explore. Nice tucked away location so you're not trapped amongst tourists. Beautiful surroundings...

Review 16:We had a bungalow with capacity for four people, but because we are only two we had a lot of space. The room was clean and the view from the terrace was awesome! The included breakfast was good, so we would definitely choose this accomodation again. To reach the hotel a 4 wheel drive is mandatory.

Review 17:The jacuzzi could have been a bit cleaner and hotter. The bumpy road up to the accomodation wasn't great but is what Costa Rica's roads are like.

Review 18:The accomodation is much better then the pictures. The pictures make it look very dated and it is not. The huts look brand new inside, they're clean and spacious. Great view of the volcano, fab breakfast, lovely and quiet with rainforest atmosphere.

Review 19:Have stayed with my parents in law and was a very nice hotel, the rooms are quite nice, the view was great, the food delicious, I like everything about this hotel

Review 20:Breakfast staff was weird Food quality (breakfast and dinner) is low and restaurant too expensive for that Town center is 1 h walk and no shuttle service

Review 21:Nice cottage with great view of the vulcano Big green property Very friendly and helpful reception staff Big outside jacuzzy with roof

Review 22:Staff didn't seem very happy.... The volcano made a full appearance for about 5 mins in 4 days! Restaurant is expensive. If you have a car make the trip into town for meals.

Review 23:Facilities; Nice hotel; Location is good.

Review 24:The trail next to the hotel is not well maintained, even finding the starting point was difficult.

Review 25:The rooms have a great view, all looking to the volcan through a tropical forest. Love the open restaurant, and the fish soup was very delicious. Also the hot pool was very entertaining.

Review 26:Loved this place. I normally don't care to give reviews, but I trulybelieve that this place needs to be known. The staff were so friendlyand caring!!! Both receptionists( Josie and the man with redish hair)were the best; they were able to resolve some issues I had booking thistrip with Booking.com. Free breakfast. Free room service (maybe becauseI made friends with the guys at the bar). The pool was great(not reallya pool guy). The activities that Josie and the man with red hair bookedfor us were amazing. Really, this place was just awesome. I would highlyrecommend. Pura vida.

Review 27:Did have some flying ants in the room but after all we are in the tropics!

Review 28:It didn't require to long of a bumpy ride off the paved road. Quaint bungalows, excellent staff and a really great restaurant on site.

Review 29:Get a room away from the forest. When it rains, the bugs and geckos find a way in the room. Wifi doesn't work in rooms.

Review 30:location, breakfast, staff.

Review 31:Taxis were $6-12 one-way to downtown or Catarata waterfall. Best for people with their own vehicle (or only doing tours). Beds and pillows weren't that comfortable. Restaurant prices were double that of downtown.

Review 32:Breakfast buffet was nice and volcano view was amazing. Staff were friendly except when it felt like they were trying to rush us out at the end of dinner (loudly talking and cleaning up other tables around us - even though we were the only two in there.) Free WiFi, except it didn't work on my boyfriends phone.

Review 33:It is hard to say what I didn't like because everything was above my set standards of excellence. The only con might be that the wifi is only strongest in the lobby. It was hard to contact family and friends from our room.

Review 34:The breakfast was absolutely amazing! The staff was friendly and helpful. We couldn't have asked for a better location. Surrounded by the rainforest and the volcano. You could hear the wildlife from your bedroom.

Review 35:the shower floor os very slippery. be carefull. breakfast is good but not changing. every day its the same. little boring.no vegetables...

Review 36:privat cabins very green around we got a room in front of the mountain. it was great. clean.

Review 37:Not that important if you on vacation but WiFi is bad .

Review 38:Lovely cabins with amAzing views and grounds ! Perfect location if you like to stay away from the city but not too far so you Wont spend a fortune on taxis ( around $7 each way) . Stuff was nice, not all over your business - just professional - I prefer that over fake smiles . I think we never stayed for so cheap in such a nice place ($75)

Review 39:Food not the greatest but the service and staff by far made up for that.

Review 40:The trails behind the resort, the beautiful landscaping and the friendly staff were amazing. We stayed in the economy and it was perfect - if we stay longer or with kids will get one of the cute bungalows next time

Review 41:Unfortunately the hotel was overbooked, but they made reservations for us in Casa Luna. This was a great place to stay! And we got compensated by a free diner at Lomas del Volcan. This was excellent!

Review 42:While the food was varied and plentiful, it was not as savory as I would have liked.

Review 43:The landscaping is superb -- an attraction all by itself. Being virtually on the side of the volcano is very special.

Review 44:My teenagers were very frustrated that the WiFi only worked in the lobby and I felt that they recommended only particular attractions, not necessarily the best ones or ones we wanted ( public hot springs). The bar wasn't open when we most wanted it to be (afternoons and after dinner). Every night brought a new bus of tourists, who sometimes took away from any local flavor in the dining room.

Review 45:The room was clean and spacious and had a pool that was comfortable. The grounds are lovely with a great view if the volcano is not covered with clouds. The front desk was also somewhat helpful. Food was ok. You can find a cappuchino in the am but it costs extra. The hotel is also set off from the town - great for security reasons, but not so great for getting around without a car.

Review 46:Clouds on Volcan Aranal robbed us from a fantastic view.

Review 47:Beautiful gardens Nice pool Great cabins Awesome breakfast Quiet at night (except on New Year!) Coatimundi roaming on the premise.

Review 48:Nothing.

Review 49:Everything ! The fact that it si out of the city, the view, the beautiful bungalow, the pool, the restaurant... Really a fantastic hotel ! We will definitely go back there !

Review 50:Inside the spacious bungalows, decoration is very simple. Beds (queen) are fine but very noisy when one moves. Bathroom is huge, almost like a garage, basic. Some staff was friendly, others looked really bored and managing the hotel more as a camping site.

Review 51:The location is amazing, the gardens beautiful and very well kept, The bungalows (many…) are nicely situated in this wonderful green open space with fantastic views (when weather allows…) to the Arenal volcano. There’s enough space between bungalows to have privacy. Breakfast was one of the best in Costa Rica, fresh juices, fruits, pancakes, omelettes or fried eggs, etc. The views from the breakfast room are spectacular, as a gigantic full HD screen oriented to the volcano; one spends here more time than usual… Location: not far from Fortuna, a couple of kilometers on a dirt road, ok for a normal car but you will feel more comfortable driving a 4x4.

Review 52:WiFi cut out whilst we were in our room. Location of hotel is between village and volcano so no good for walking into village.

Review 53:Great buffet breakfast with freshly made egg station. Restaurant has great views of volcano. Every room has a view of volcano. Trekking routes at back of property. E

Review 54:Could not tell any negative details, but would recommend to come with a car as traveling without could require more detailed planning for day trips.

Review 55:If you enjoy hiking and have an interest for pure nature experiences this location is definitely worth a stay. Not only the comfortable lodges with private balcony, but furthermore the entire athmosphere is really special including a direct view up to vulcano Arenal - if the daily fog allows ;-)

Review 56:Beautiful location however far enough from town that taxis can be expensive, no hair dryer in room.

Review 57:We stayed at Lomas del Volcan for 2 nights while we visited the Fortuna area. The grounds are beautiful, from the view of the volcano (what a wonderful way to wake up) to the gardens. The staff was always extremely helpful, calling taxis and helping with tours. The bar/restaurant had a great view and friendly staff. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return!

Review 58:The wireless connection was moderate in the cabin and the breakfast buffet was the same every day - but this is rather normal for most places and did not impact my great stay at the resort.

Review 59:The resort is close enough to the volcano to have a great view and far enough to feel safe. The cabins and the resort grounds are really really nice and La Fortuna is only a few minutes away by car. A great location to relax, explore the volcano and its area and to roam around town.

Review 60:The beds were a little uncomfortable.

Review 61:I love the lactation and privacy we got by having our own cottage. The staff were excellent, very friendly and they help with everything.

Review 62:We didn't really see any wildlife around the hotel as indicated by other reviewers - maybe we just weren't lucky in that regard.

Review 63:The staff was excellent and very helpful. My kids loved the "bungalows". The location was convenient to everything - the volcano national park, the waterfall, and La Fortuna.

Review 64:There was nothing that I didn't like

Review 65:The views were fantastic, waking up every morning to see the volcano from my window was worth every penny. The staff were very friendly and helpful

Review 66:The promised wifi in the room was not there, but only at the bar.

Review 67:Great place, great view, friendly staff, nice swimming pool. It was apleasure having breakfast with a view thrue the garden and seeing the"House" coati.

Review 68:The long, bad gravel road entrance is not comfortable to drive in and out. The spa water is not hot and the tiles was old.

Review 69:The view and the environment were so relaxing. That helped us to forgot our busy life for a few days. The foods are well cooked and all the services (room cleaning, food services, reception) are exceptional.

Review 70:There were only two minor negatives. One is that the room was very dark (low-light bulbs) so if you are a reader, it is a bit dim inside. Secondly, I did not like that the windows do not open.

Review 71:The rooms are very clean and nice, good quality bedding and towels. Wood floors, large bathroom, two little private decks (one in front, one behind). The WiFi was good in all locations. On check in we had been assigned a location next to the lobby. I asked Joselyn if she could help us to find a quieter location and she changed it for us. Breakfast is wonderful: fresh fruit and made to order eggs in a gorgeous restaurant open to a beautiful garden with the volcano behind. We only ate dinner in the restaurant once, the food was fine, but we preferred to try the many awesome restaurants in town. I broke my foot while there and the staff at the front desk were SO kind and helped me phone doctors, hospitals, etch. (thank you Robert!!). Don't be put off by the long driveway if you have a car. Its only 5 minutes to town and the driveway makes for a pretty drive. All the staff here are great, bartender, waiters, housekeepers, front desk... very friendly and professional. Another note: instead of going to a more expensive spa, we got massages at a little place across the street from the plaza next to the pizza place. Best massage I've ever had!!

Review 72:My family and I stayed at the Hotel Lomas for two nights in July. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast, tranquil tropical setting, and the privacy of the rooms. The woman at the front desk was very helpful in answering questions, and getting tours booked.

Review 73:Not hotels fault but the weather in July 2014 was terrible - a lot of rain and almost no sun. Volcano is now inactive and rarely visible so it doesn't add much to the experience Tours are expensive cheaper in town.

Review 74:Individual cottages set in beautiful grounds. Fantastic views of volcano when visible. Lovely pool and hot tub. Excellent breakfast

Review 75:Road in to the hotel was very bumpy.

Review 76:Room description on website not accurate.

Review 77:Location,good breakfast, stuff, good spa services

Review 78:We liked the privacy of each bungalow and that there was not only a front deck but also a back deck. The rooms were very clean and the staff great.

Review 79:The sound when rain so hard

Review 80:The best kitchen in a hotel ever

Review 81:The view was amazing, the rooms are great, very clean, plenty of space, quiet

Review 82:Wifi was useless, tour buses set the tone

Review 83:Cleaniliness

Review 84:Bungalows are really cool, and the place is ideally situated near Volcano National Park.

Review 85:Lovely views Good and polite staff Very comfortable beds- especially important after hiking

Review 86:terrible wifi!

Review 87:the place is very quiet and peaceful. very serene and atmosphrtic. the fresh juices were out of this world. definitely recommended!

Review 88:Poor internet connection and the rooms are a little bit dark

Review 89:Location and service

Review 90:No WiFi in rooms

Review 91:The location and very helpful reception staff.

Review 92:Quiet, nice location. Clean and comfortable, spacious rooms. Receptionist was friendly and helpful.

Review 93:Given that the hotel is in the rainforest, there were a good number of bugs that found their way into our bungalow. However, if you're staying in a bungalow in the rainforest and can't handle some bugs, you're definitely on the wrong trip. :)

Review 94:Loved Lomas del Volcan! It was amazing to have our own bungalow overlooking Arenal Volcano. Unbeatable views, great pool, yummy included breakfast, helpful staff, and wonderfully close proximity to the town of La Fortuna & Arenal's many adventure activities.

Review 95:The wifi seemed off and on for us but considering how far we were from places that is understandable...

Review 96:We had a huge group of almost 30 people which can always be hard to organize but they did a great job and we were all places in the same area which was great!

Review 97:Nothing

Review 98:Outstanding views of volcano. Room spacious and comfortable, back porch as well, bidet nice touch.Staff friendly and informative also great food at restaurant!

Review 99:Biggest complaint was at check in when we were given a room with two beds. I booked this hotel four months in advance with a very special note that it was our 35th anniversary trip and a king was a must. At check in they told us they had king beds but one was not available. They showed no record of my request……..yet I had a hard copy of my booking.com notation of this request and that didn't seem to make any difference. Didn't even really get an apology or anything….just an excuse of no king bed. Out of six hotels in CR this was the only one that our booking.com request was not noted or granted. Kind of spoiled the stay here. We made due. Also had an ant problem in the room….big ones in the shower and little ones on the sink. Notified the front desk at check out.

Review 100:We stayed at Lomas del Volcan for three nights during our three weeks in Costa Rica. The little Costa Rican huts (rooms) were very nice and made even more special by the tropical grounds and fantastic views of the volcano. The location of the resort made it an easy hike to town in La Fortuna where we could walk to grocery store, bars, and many nice sodas with great affordable typical food.

Review 101:The restaurant was not a good one, no good good value for money and no good taste.

Review 102:The large room in the chalet The large shower place The location very near Arenal The very professional staff at the reception

Review 103:We stayed for 3 days in January and had a fabulous time.Views of the volcano were amazing. Staff were fantastic - big thank you to Robert on reception who was really helpful and made our "anniversary" special. Room was beautiful and loads of wildlife & stunning birds in the grounds. The swimming pool and jacuzzi are also extremely nice. You won't regret staying here.

Review 104:It was difficult to read at night because the walls and ceiling were all in dark wood and the energy efficient bulbs made it rather dark. Also, only one lamp with a dark shade. It's a bit far off the main road and we didn't have a car. However, it was easy to order a taxi into La Fortuna.

Review 105:Beautiful, clean cottages, a balcony that overlooked a wooded ravine. We had a spectacular view of the volcano. The pool and the hot tub were extremely well maintained as were the grounds. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Review 106:Just one of the waiters was a bit slow to serve two of us in the bar - he was clearly busy preparing for a large party expected on the evening. As a group of women we are used to being looked after - or at least treated professionally. However the rest of the staff were attentive.

Review 107:Pleasant and helpful staff. Breakfast good and buffet evening meal had a reasonable range of dishes. Most of the a la carte was very good with the exception of a misleadingly described prawn dish which was off putting because of the huge portion and unexpected sauce. The weather during our stay was too rainy for us to make full use of the lovely grounds but they looked beautiful and very well kept.

Review 108:Lovely, clean cottages. Beautiful gardens and view of the volcano. Great location as long as you have a car. Staff was very helpful with arranging tours; great advice without any pressure.

Review 109:The breakfast was the same each morning but this was minor. The hotel is quite a distance from the main road and the town itself so if you don't have a car walking might be an issue.

Review 110:This was less of a hotel and more of a complex with individual huts. When the clouds receded there was an uninterrupted view of the volcano. The rooms were very comfortable and had all of the necessities. The staff was very pleasant and helpful- we even had one staff member give our dead car battery a boost. A very nice stay.

Review 111:The location is prime and beautiful, the staff is friendly and attentive to every need. The accommodations are great and the food delicious. The gardens, flora and fauna are beautiful. We loved it and will be back!!

Review 112:Niets

Review 113:This is an amazing place to stay. Originally we booked for only onenight for the start of our trip trough Costa Rica, but because it issuch a beautiful place we booked an extra night. This is the place tobe when you need a restful place, a place to relax and enjoy thebeautiful nature. The view on the the volcano from the room we had wasabsolutely amazing. But also the gardens al over the hotel arebeautiful, with an enormous variety of plants and flowers. Thebreakfast and food in the open garden restaurant is very good. Thewhole staff is very friendly and helpful, whats makes it complete whenyou speak about excellent. The hotel has a good location for visitingthe area of the volcano, the waterfalls and the lake. You can do thison your own or organized by the hotel. We went for the night'frog' walk organized by the hotel. This turned out to be oneof our top experiences of our trip on Costa Rica. Leaving Lomas delVolcan to continue our trip was a sad moment, we knew that it would bevery difficult to find a place lake this ever again.

Review 114:Very friendly hotel and very good breakfast.

Review 115:Lots of bugs :(

Review 116:The view was amazing!

Review 117:Restuarant on location was expensive and food was just okay.

Review 118:Private with great views of the volcano.

Review 119:Location and huts

Review 120:location' location' locatin

Review 121:peacefull place/romantic place garden and swimming pool perfect location close to everything breakfast confort of bungallow

Review 122:Super good place and spiritual energy!!!Fantastic..

Review 123:Beautiful hotel with amazing and clean facilities. All the cabins have perfect view of the volcano. Highly reccomended!

Review 124:Would you fix that road, please? :)

Review 125:Great spot in the mountains, nice rooms;

Review 126:We had a great time. Our cottage was beautiful and very clean. The view of the volcano was incredible.

Review 127:The room was very spacious, with airconditioning, duvets on the bed and a nice big bathroom. Breakfast buffet as a treat.
