Reviews for Hotel Alfa Soleil

Review 1:A great location with wonderful views of the mountains. The chef was fantastic and prepared superb food for us during our stay. Discounted public transport is also available which is very efficient.

Review 2:Nothing

Review 3:A short walk from town center but great restaurant on site made it no problem. Seemed to be the most popular restaurant in town with locals as well as visitors. Exceptionally helpful hotel staff. Nice sized room

Review 4:WiFi signal need to be improve, that's all.

Review 5:Honestly I am not sure what to start with as every thing was perfect starting from the moment we arrived with a warm welcome from Receptionist and and Nico. one of the best things that i had in this journey to Europe was meeting Seiler family the owners of this nice hotel. Thank you for the pleasant stay that me and my family had in your hotel and for sure if I am going to go back to Switzerland i will plan couple of days to spend in your hotel again. Ahmed Alshehri

Review 6:الواي فاي جدا بطئ Wi-Fi is very slow

Review 7:الموظفين جدا متعاونين. The staff is very helpful موقع الفندق The hotel location مطعم الفندق The hotel's restaurant

Review 8:The wifi was not working very well, the breakfast buffet could have had many more options, (there even wasn't any fruit), the walls are thin and I could hear the man in the next room next to me talking and snoring.

Review 9:I loved that the price of my stay included free access to cable cars, there is a swimming pool, small gym, and sauna in the hotel, the room was comfortable with a wonderful view and a BATHTUB :-) I liked that I was given a ride to and from the train station upon request as a courtesy. It's a family-run business.

Review 10:Breakfast - a bit limited choices and variety, however the fresh orange juice is a positive point.

Review 11:- Free ticket to cable lifts is included during our stay - Restaurant - Attentive staff and owner, friendliness.

Review 12:Nothing to complain about .

Review 13:Nico ,Romy and the staff at the hotel were very friendly and could not do enough for you. The restaurant was not officially opened that night but Nico and his chef served us a wonderful meal.

Review 14:Understaffed which resulted in slow service, not catering to special dietary needs, poor quality of breakfast items (we have eaten much better breakfast in a Swiss youth hostel)

Review 15:Clean facilities/rooms, large ski/wax room, the cross-country skiing trail is immediately opposite the hotel

Review 16:Expensive family room. They do cook fresh, so if the restaurant is busy expect a long wait. We had a long wait for meal to be served (1hour after ordering), so if with kids take some snacks and entertainment while waiting.

Review 17:Location for ease of access to the Kandersteg- Goppenstein car/ferry.

Review 18:From the minute we arrived we felt at home in this family run hotel. Excellent service, friendly staff and the most amazing dinners! We will return!

Review 19:Very minor remark - Would have liked some more alternatives for the breakfast buffet. It was good but not excellent in terms of variety of choice.

Review 20:We had a large, newly renovated family room that took all four of us plus our dog. Very nice room overlooking the main road and the mountains across. Excellent restaurant - if you stay here go for a half board option. Kids enjoyed using the pool

Review 21:Nothing!

Review 22:Quality of food in the breakfast buffet Excellent suggestions for days out Space to sit and play cards in the bar Wifi Small indoor pool Convenient location on the main street

Review 23:It's a long walk from the train station, but they have a shuttle service which I found out about after making the walk with my luggage.

Review 24:Very unique hotel and room. Certainly not like chain hotels in U.S.

Review 25:Friendliness of staff.

Review 26:Very good breakfast, nice view from the balcony. The food at Nico's was very good, but a little bit on the pricey side.

Review 27:The food was rather too rich for my taste

Review 28:The friendliness of the staff

Review 29:We were not told that there would be a charge every time we used the sauna

Review 30:Location, evening meal excellent, room

Review 31:The location - wonderful The staff - couldn't be more helpful The hotel - lovely

Review 32:The food was excellent.

Review 33:The dinner

Review 34:WiFi connection

Review 35:Spaciuos Room Pet friendly Staff friendly and helpul

Review 36:Staff are fantastic and steaks you feel right at home.

Review 37:No fridge or tea making facilities in the room

Review 38:Great location, very helpful staff always going a little bit further than just good service. We had a superior room with a great balcony and views.

Review 39:Not much. Room decoration could do with some updating, but this did not affect our stay at all.

Review 40:Wonderful staff, very helpful, friendly, accommodating and understanding Great food at restaurant

Review 41:Are you looking for a hotel with personality, this is it. Very friendly and helpful staf and owners. The kitchen serves you excellent dishes after exploring the wonderful surroundings.

Review 42:Nothing.

Review 43:The family room had a dividing door to separate adult and child sleeping areas. The room had a great view. Easy access to cross-country ski runs. Kids liked the food as well as the adults.

Review 44:The stair well from the 3rd floor rooms could be better lit. Other thanthat all good.

Review 45:Excellent service and flexible help from the owner and his staff. Hotelwithin easy walking distance of the town 5 min, and the hotel picked upmy friends from the station. The rooms vary between more modernised andsomewhat more basic which is relected in the varied costs. All the roomsin our group were spotlessly clean, comfortable beds and good bathrooms. The breakfast was excellent with freshly squeezed orange juice and freshfilter coffee, bread, cereals and cheeses and hams. The evening meal atNico's was really very good, nicely presented, modern European, goodvariety and very well done. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Review 46:The hotel is not ski to door, you must cross a street. But not enough of an issue to make a difference in our amazing stay.

Review 47:The hotel and staff were amazing. It was in a great location. Also a great value for the price. We would definitely stay there again.

Review 48:The sparse information on off-season low activity

Review 49:We had a very pleasant stay at the Alfa Soleil, situated in marvellous Kandersteg. The hotel has an unusual blend of small-scale personal hospitality and large-scale ambitions. We very much enjoyed the large room and luxurious bathroom, the cosy swimming-pool with its massaging jets, the small but functional gym. Sadly, the famous restaurant was closed due to off-season low activity. But we were given the perfect advise by Peter, the host, to go to Ruedihus, further up the valley. This turned out to be an absolute gem of a Berner Oberland restaurant in a house from 1753! Breakfast at Alfa Soleil (which has been criticized by some in this thread) was fine. It was a fine, generous typical swiss breakfast with Birner Muesli, nice cheeses, fresh fruit and newly baked bread. We look forward to revisiting Alfa Soleil and the warm and welcoming Seiler family.

Review 50:Make sure you go for the 'demi-pension', otherwise dinner can be a bit pricey.

Review 51:The ambience of a family-run hotel. Peter and family have a style of their own, but it works! Neil from Marshfield has summed it up perfectly

Review 52:We planned 3 nights and stayed for 7.So we liked it and the staff is very friendly and always available for information to explore the beautifull surrondings of the area.Absolut top and our room was perfect. Mature couple from Holland

Review 53:Owner was rude when I asked for blanket and towels at 8:30pm - but did get us the things

Review 54:Staff (other than owner) were very helpful and friendly; room was clean and beautiful

Review 55:A warm welcome by Nicolas and his family and staff set the standard for a great weekend in the stunning outdoors of Kandersteg. I'd recommend AlfaSoleil to anyone intending to visit this beuatifull piece of the Berner-Oberland.

Review 56:It was a expensive, but we knew that it would be, and were happy withthe value received for the money. Otherwise, the only negative was thatwe couldn't stay longer.

Review 57:We loved our stay and will return again if we have the opportunity. Theproprietors were very friendly and helpful (spoke english), the food wasgreat and the scenery and hiking were outstanding. We stayed in room #21which was recently renovated, big, and had great views - it was awesome. It was our first visit to Switzerland and we thought Kandersteg was agreat alpine village to visit and the Alpha Soleil more than met ourexpectations.

Review 58:The breakfast was a bit spartan compared to others we've had atcomparable hotels. We would have liked some fresh fruit (the did offer afruit salad) and a bigger selection of meats or bacon and scrambledeggs. The restaurant gets such outstanding reviews for their dinnersthat we were expecting a bit more from the breakfast.

Review 59:This was a great hotel with fabulous views of the mountains, waterfalls, and valley from our room. The gentleman at the front desklet us check in early and get settled since our room was ready. He toldus about multiple hikes that were possible in the area. Very nicebreakfast staff too. This is a gorgeous town and great hotel that wehope to visit again some day.

Review 60:furniture needs updating: overused; but ok for skiiers rough useage. room was last room available, hence more like a standby, as it was a bigger than originally booked.

Review 61:exc restaurant, very good bkfst. top quality service. spotlessly clean. wi-fi is available. scenery is breathtaking. train there is modern. area is great for hiking ,mountain climbing etc.

Review 62:Noice from the traffic on the busy road. Noice from the opposite farm, some kind of ventilator is running 24 hours. Noice from other guests in the room above. The temperature of the water in the shower was not constant, it went from very hot to very cold.

Review 63:We have booked a superior room for 3 nights. Nice, spacious room with balcony. Lovely view on the montains. Good beds, bathroom ok. We had booked half-board and ate every evening a delicious 4-course dinner. Friendly staff.

Review 64:A family run hotel. Vey welcoming. The staff were excellent, cheerful and acommodating. The situation was ideal, just a little distance from the town centre with magnificent views. The food was excellent. The rooms comfortable. Overall, very good value for money.

Review 65:The Alfa Soleil is a small hotel, but has all the comforts and facilities of a much larger one. The food is excellent, including the abundant breakfast. However, the outstanding feature is the management and staff. The hotel is run by the owners, Peter and Agnes Seiler and their son Nico with the support of numerous in-laws and other Kanderstegians. Everyone is knowlegable and anxious to help, and there is always a smile. Kandersteg can speak for itself. It is one of Switzerland's hidden gems.

Review 66:Not much really.

Review 67:For a typical, traditional swiss hotel the room was very spacious. The fresh orange juice for breakfast, not too mention how copious it was. The bed matress was nice and firm as well as the pillow. Our son was with KISC so we went for XC skiing and needless to say the choice of runs is plentyful - there is also downhill and sledding (hotel has sleds to borrow). And finally, last but not least, the staff was friendly and very helpful.

Review 68:More relaxed sofa seating in an area of the lounge, not quite as formal.

Review 69:Great free pick up and drop off service to the railway station.Excellentfood both for breakfast and evening meal, whether eating half board or ala carte. The staff are nearly all from one family that own the hotel andthey all do their best to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.Therooms are kept very clean. It is in a great location for WinterWalking, very well marked tracks in all directions from the hotel, catering for all levels of fitness.A Fantastic traditional winterholiday venue.

Review 70:The weather was cool after 3 days of rain. The heating came on rather late. There was no one to show us where the breakfast was s erved in the morning. No meals were eaten here- the menu looked rather complicated.

Review 71:The single room was on the top floor, and had a lift to it. The breakfast menu was good.

Review 72:This was one of the most pleasant hotels we have stayed in. The locationwas great with stunning views. The staff was extremely helpful andKandersteg is an absolute gem.

Review 73:The Alfa Soleil Hotel is a family operated Hotel. The rooms on the south side are spacious and offer a beutiful view of the mountains. The cuisine is outstanding and the service friendly. Breakfast buffet generous with local products and home made dishes and the possibility to press your own orange juice. To welcome guests, the owners make good suggestions as to where the nicest hikes lead and which trails are preferable. A must are visits to the Blausee and Oeschinensee of which the latter can be reached either by cable car or a 1:1/2 hour hike. Also the Gasterntal with it's wild scenery is within reach by foot from the hotel. To end the day, Dinner can be enjoyed on on the trerrace on warm evenings facing the mountains and snow peaks. The Alfa Soleil is a Hotel we will come back to.

Review 74:The mattresses could use an update...quite hollow.

Review 75:Very friendly staff in both the hotel and restaurant. We arrived at night just after the restaurant had closed and the chef prepared a fantastic meal for us.

Review 76:My husband and I could not think of anything we didn't like! We go anytime of year too!

Review 77:Actually, everything! We had never been to Kanderstag before and we were very happy with the hotel because of the location, cleanliness, friendliness and helpfulness of owners and staff. We could not speak the language but they went out of their way to help us. The food and service were excellent as well. If you can't go to stay over night, you should go for a meal sometime. We really enjoyed our time there and hope to return. It was close to town but not too close and the view of the Alps from our balcony was breathtaking. Once you go, you want to return.

Review 78:We liked everything about the hotel and would be happy to stay there again.

Review 79:Family run, very friendly and helpfull staff. Great food at Nico's restaurant. The room was spacious and housekeeping was excelent. Great views from the room and balcony.

Review 80:Appreciating that it is a wooden challet style of building, but if we had known about the squeeky floors, we might have reconsidered this as our choice of hotel.

Review 81:A beautiful hotel with very friendly staff. Great views from the hotel itself. We had the half board, which was excellent. Breakfast was varied and tasty (make your own orange juice with their juicer!). Alfa Soleil is a luxurious starting point for great day hiking in Kandersteg.

Review 82:We didn't like the fact that there was an extra charge for using thesauna and that you had to pay a deposit for the safe, for example. Withmost hotels these "additions" are included as part of the package. Workwas carried out two doors down from us and at times that that wasn't themost relaxing. The rooms aren't soundproof as advertised.

Review 83:The rooms were clean and comfortable, with a nice finish. Each room hada balcony and good views. The restaurant 'Nico' is of high quality andthe breakfast is varied, with plenty of options for everyone.

Review 84:They claim to offer WiFi, but this was not available in my room on the4th floor. This is the only negative point otherwise the place is great.

Review 85:The staff were excellent. After I made my booking, they called me toconfirm my additional requirements. Breakfast was excelent too.

Review 86:Nice staff

Review 87:Old furniture

Review 88:Friendly staff,High quality restaurant food.

Review 89:Not near from town centre and places of interests.

Review 90:Silent

Review 91:Leaving! could have done a nother months stay if funds allowed!

Review 92:Everything!

Review 93:the restaurant prices were very high.

Review 94:the hosts, the pool, the area.

Review 95:Hair in the shower.

Review 96:Very nice staff, nice spacious room. Very close to the train, which was the reason for our visit. Fine breakfast.

Review 97:Nothing to add

Review 98:Friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Review 99:Beautiful location

Review 100:Very friendly staff,good restaurant,nice rooms

Review 101:Great location and helpful, friendly owners and staff

Review 102:Very friendly and flexible staff in a nice environment! Dinner and breakfast were excellent.

Review 103:Wonderful hotel in a stunning location. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anybody.
