Reviews for Arenal Manoa & Hot Springs

Review 1:Driving on the road from Liberia was challenging (!) although I know you can't control that! Would have liked a cabinet or drawers for unpacking clothes.

Review 2:Staff was excellent, room was very clean. Pools were great. Bartender at swimming pool was exceptional. So was the lady who cleaned our room. Liked the guide and driver we had for the "jungle/bridge" walk. Very knowledgeable and personable.

Review 3:Very remote, difficult to get around unless you have a car - we felt a bit trapped and is far from town

Review 4:Clean, helpful staff, good facilities if you would like to stay on restort

Review 5:Everything is great.

Review 6:This place is amazing if you get the right room which we did. I feel like the stay wouldn't have been as good if we hadn't been on the edge of the resort.

Review 7:Rooms were basic, no king beds, and distance between rooms and reception & other facilities. My daughters room had bug problems and she was bitten a number of times in the night- ours was fine

Review 8:The pool, gardens and restaurant

Review 9:Stunning volcano views from the room. Very clean comfortable place. Scenic property to enjoy while walking to pool, restaurant. Delicious breakfast with lot of options to chose from (that accommodated our dietary/vegetarian needs) Wonderful helpful staff (to help plan your trip or suggest places to eat, drive around, etc.)

Review 10:It was a little pricey for restaurant. The staff were decent, but definitely did not go out of the way to make it feel incredibly special

Review 11:It was a really good place to stay that was very clean, had a gorgeous view of the volcano, was private, and the pool was great.

Review 12:We did not like the feeling that the staff were conditioned into a training in order to try to reach a resort standard. The feeling of not being natural with us, and a bit fake sometimes. We did not like that a gaz vehicle is used at all times to drive us from reception to the room, and vice versa, while trying to protect the environment in Costa Rica. We hated the unflavored and sanitized food served at the restaurant, while the breakfast was trying to give a look of abundance but was actually always the same cantine-type stuffs. We were looking for savory local food, or at least local tropical fruits that we cannot find in western countries like passion fruit...The food definitely needs some love. And the rooms are really not soundproof, we could hear everything in the room nextdoor. The worse was to be in such a remote location in order to have some peace but hearing the loud party music from outside at night, or hearing the loud soccer match and having the giant soccer screen spoiling the view of the volcano while in the swimming pool.

Review 13:the view on the volcano, the pool, the gardens

Review 14:Nothing

Review 15:This is a beautiful hotel and the grounds are breathtaking All of the casitas are spacious, clean and have awesome views of the volcano! I would definitely stay here again and the breakfast buffet is great and free! Don't miss this resort with happy hour at the hot spring pool!

Review 16:Loved the rooms and the beautiful views from the patio. The hot springs and pool were pleasant after a long day of activities. Such pleasant and friendly staff that made our stay even better. Would Definently stay if I returned to the area

Review 17:Room was very hot and humid when we first arrived but cooled dow after a few hours of running the AC.

Review 18:Excellent hotel with very comfortable and clean rooms. The facility was beautiful with amazing views of Arenal. Hot spring in the hotel was very nice. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 19:Seemed a bit like a retirement community. I would live to have seen more young people there.

Review 20:The facility is well maintained and very clean. The food is delicious and the staff were wonderful.

Review 21:The hotel is very big and there is a feeling of privacy which I liked. Also everything is very green and u feel like u are in nature. The staff was nice & helpfull. Good breakfast.

Review 22:The accommodations. The Room was beautiful and very spacious, the bathroom was very clean and nicely decorate, the view was stunning, the food was delicious. Everything was lovely.

Review 23:Each day after hiking the areas around the volcano, it was great to come back to the resort and relax in the thermal pool next to the swim up bar. The breakfast is also great sitting in the open air dining area watching tropical birds and their own resident caiman in the lake below.

Review 24:Hot springs were great, room was very nice, loved the plants in the shower touch, breakfast buffet was awesome with a great view. Took the free dairy farm tour which was informative and a nice walk. Service was outstanding - when our tour was just 10 minutes delayed they called down to the breakfast buffet and located us (not sure how) to let us know about this slight delay and then we didn't have to rush through breakfast.

Review 25:Unpaved road to the hotel was really bumpy and hard to travel over. It rained too much and too hard but not the fault of the hotel.

Review 26:Beautiful hotel grounds.

Review 27:Loved the Beauty of the Property; Staff was super friendly and helpful; loved the hot spring; we will definitely come back! We had to cut our stay by one day because we didn't realize how far the property is from Liberia Airport. It would be helpful to mention that on the website.

Review 28:The dinner buffet. Disappointing.

Review 29:It was our second time visiting this place and it was as good as the first one. The place is quiet and well maintained, the swimming pools are nice and clean. We had the dinner buffet, which was only ok, not many options and mostly gone by the time we got there, would've preferred to order something from the menu. But the breakfast buffet was really good. I would come back again.

Review 30:There were some details like missing light bulbs and curtain rings that I noticed that made the room seem more rustic. Minor stuff but I think buttoning those up would be an easy fix to upgrade the feel. When we left, our driver that we hired to take us to Santa Teresa was delayed at the gate while they sent a bellman (via van) to get our luggage. It was inefficient and we missed our ferry. I was very frustrated by this nice thing they tried to do, the miscommunication, and the inconsideration to our needs even after I told them we wanted our driver to go directly to the room. We probably should have let them know ahead to let the driver come to or room directly.

Review 31:The breakfast was excellent with a good view. It was foggy so no volcano. The shuttle service is good and prompt. They end service by 10 pm. The grounds are nice and we liked the distance between units - you do share a wall with another room. This is somewhat resort-like but you still have to leave the grounds for activities. I think this place makes sense if you were staying for several days. We only stayed two nights. The room is big and the ac is comfortable.

Review 32:The hotel is far from Fortuna, but it is also an advantage because the city is not the real attraction there.

Review 33:The hotel is very well kept, with good quality facilities. Everything is very clean and the staff was very attentive to our needs.

Review 34:The beds were a bit too firm but I did enough activities during the day that I crashed hard anyhow!

Review 35:The location was fantastic. Sadly, it was rainy season so I never really got to see the top of the volcano but it was right there! I did an exfoliation and massage at the spa which was the best part of my stay. Food was great (try the ceviche!) and the hot springs were hot. I also really liked the swim up bar in the hot springs!

Review 36:The WiFi in our room was sometimes insufficient for bandwith-intensive tasks like VoIP, but functional for email, web-browsing, etc. It would be very difficult to have blazing-fast internet in such a location, though. There would have to be a separate router in nearly every bungalow, I would think, and this would compromise the beauty and privacy that characterize this hotel. The quality of the WiFi is about what I would expect given the magnificent layout.

Review 37:Our room was gorgeous and had a perfect view of the volcano. Everything was extremely clean. The food at the hotel's restaurant was delicious. Best of all, every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. They even made sure that our transportation on the day of checkout was confirmed even though another hotel had originally booked it. Thanks to all the staff at Arenal Manoa for a wonderful experience!

Review 38:The Internet was a bit slow

Review 39:I Liked the way is organised everything. They take care about the details Very clean. The breakfast was varied as well based on traditional food

Review 40:Just cannot say enough good things about this hotel! The location, the staff, the set-up of the rooms as separate private little lodges...would go back in a heart beat!

Review 41:The wifi was poor in the rooms. Breakfast could have more variety between days.

Review 42:Beautiful resort, nice large room, good service, wonderful swim up bars.

Review 43:It is about 5 min drive from town which is fine with a rental car but would be a hassle otherwise (but that's where Arenal is). Wifi was good enough for basic use but wouldn't support video or audio calls.

Review 44:Quite & peaceful bungalows with direct view of Arenal. It was cloudy the day I was there but the view was still interesting.

Review 45:Spotty wifi, VERY limited food options if you don't want to pay $15 each way for a taxi to La Fortuna-- basically forced to eat at hotel. There are more luxurious options nearby at similar price points

Review 46:Fine location, nice rooms with great views, good included breakfast, nice pool area

Review 47:It was a beautiful place, all the rooms faced the volcano. The food was very good. We had a car, so getting places was easy. I would recommend having a car.

Review 48:AC fan did not work to handle the heat, but when Natalie sent over Jesus, he fixed it.

Review 49:The people, Mario and Hilda in the dining room. Don't forget to try Juanita's omelets at the awesome breakfast buffet. Good food. Marcos and Antonie at the front desk and very helpful. They recommended great tours. Seek out Joseph the bartender, you will find out, great drinks. Be sure and notice the rookery of white egrets in the tree by the pond near the restaurant. If it rains, after all it is a rain forest hop in the hot springs! Rosibell kept our junior suite spotless. Try out the Swedish message and the spa with the nearby mountain stream and wild birds providing the background music!

Review 50:Breakfast was plentiful but ok. Our outside patio light didn't work, and there may or may not have been a peeping tom grounds worker.

Review 51:We enjoyed the happy hours at the swim up bar. We did not see the volcano the whole Time due to weather, and this is something that happens often so know you may never see it. The massage was really good too and they changed our time so they gave us a free facial. Staff was very accommodating. The whole arenal area is very touristy and seems pricey so this hotel was a decent alternative, and they had nice pool/spring area. We never ate dinner or any meals here. The bathrooms were cute too.

Review 52:Room minibar: expensive, unnecessary. Cluttered up the room fridge space.

Review 53:Each of the rooms was thoughtfully sited with a private garden view. Room was furnished nicely, very clean. Unique bathroom!

Review 54:The staff was very accomodating. Grounds are beautiful. Breakfast included and tasty with lots of options. The views from the dining area were spectacular. We all enjoyed the hot spring pool and hot tub after being in the chilly water of Arenal Waterfall. The rooms were lovely with a huge walk in shower including live plants.

Review 55:Lighting in the guest rooms is terrible. Fluorescent lights in a harsh hue, not enough light to read in bed. No table lamps. No true desk, no comfortable chairs in room. Minor little things that made the experience frustrating.

Review 56:Excellent grounds and landscaping. Friendly staff.

Review 57:food was quite pricy, very tasty, but didn't really want to have a "special" dinner every night or for lunch. Not located conveniently to other food options. Cabs add up with a $12 round trip

Review 58:Beautiful landscaping, lovely facilities, helpful, cheerful staff, awesome massage

Review 59:We ate at the restaurant on two evenings and the food and service were very acceptable. This location was ideal for the volcano and we would have had a view from our room had it not been raining most of our stay. We enjoyed the thermal pool and the Happy Hour there provided some fun - an indulgence!

Review 60:WiFi in our unit was unusable. The restaurant and reception lodge have good WiFi. Restaurant was typical resort fare and prices

Review 61:Overall we had a very good experience here. The location was perfect. We had a spectacular view of the volcano from our room, restaurant and other areas on the 3 days of sun and clear skies we experienced (the locals said that only 15% of the days are clear skies). The staff is pleasant and helpful. Well maintained buildings, landscape and pools. The hotel’s restaurant is what you would expect from a resort. The breakfast buffet was included and had plenty of choices including awesome local fruit. We ate lunches at the pool that had more local options and better prices. Dinner at the restaurant 2 nights was ok but not great. There weren’t enough local options for my taste. Prices were restort-like. The service was slow and forgetful.La Fortuna was great for meals if you know where to go. We had the best meal of our vacation for $25 at Soda Viquez. It’s local food. Best Sea Bass I’ve ever had and only $7. You must go there. “Soda” means small restaurant. Soda Garapatta in La Fortuna is another local place. We didn’t get there but the tour guides raved about it.The private transfers (airport to Arenal) are a good idea. I was bumming that we spent the money on them instead of a car but after two runs changed my mind. The ride from SJO to Arenal was in the dark. There are two ways to go. The driver chose the one with more turns through small towns and on bad roads. We never would have found our way. The other route is easier but still difficult especially in the fog which starts around 3 PM in the hills.Taxis between the hotel and La Fortuna are $6-12 depending on what the driver asks for.WiFi in our unit was unusable. The restaurant and reception lodge have good WiFi.The Manoa was a good choice for us. If you’re going to spend most of your time on activities and don’t need a pool or restaurant there are many other choices from hostels to small hotels. One person we met fond a clean, nice hotel in La Fortuna for $60 a night.

Review 62:Very little - to be picky breakfast was varied but cakes disappointing, no tea in rooms and a real bonus would be a gym

Review 63:Beautiful manicured huge grounds, lake. Great pool and hot spring pool. Breakfast in open restaurant with volcano views

Review 64:Inflexible service in the restaurant. We asked for a salad without cheese or meat, and they said it was "impossible". Would also not return to restaurant because of loud obnoxious musak. Eat outside.

Review 65:Beautiful gardens.

Review 66:Poor wifi reception. Poor lighting of the property at night. It would be nice to walk around, but it is too dark. Room is large, but it needs a chair and more drawer space.

Review 67:Good size room. Beautiful grounds. Each little chalet has an excellent view of the volcano. Restaurant is beautifully located.

Review 68:We were greeted with a smile and by name. It wasy 60th birthday celebration and as soon as we got settled in our room, room service delivered a beautiful large plate of fruit arranged by Shirleny! Then after dinner the staff brought me birthday cake and sang. I thought my husband or friends arranged it but no, once again it was from Shirleny Rojas. She is a shinning star at this resort!!! The beds were comfortable, rooms were extra clean, the hot springs pool was the best and the staff is wonderful!

Review 69:They change the water in the thermal pool every day. The water made my skin super clean and soft. The breakfast is super. The location perfect, and the staff super helpful.

Review 70:internet signal in the room was poor at times (although worked fine in restaurant) overpriced meals at the hotel (other than breakfast)

Review 71:great hot springs with swim up bar great happy hour terrific breakfast buffet very clean and comfortable beautiful property convenient parking convenient location close to la fortuna (5 min away) easy to find

Review 72:The location is one of the furthest past La Fortuna, and the property itself is 800 meters off the paved road. The free breakfast was okay but not great.

Review 73:The casita building was beautiful and incredibly clean, with a private terrace directly facing the volcano. Incredible! The hot springs pool was lovely and the swim up bar was convenient. Overall the grounds are fantastic and very well maintained. Would highly recommend this facility. 8 out of 10!

Review 74:The staff were fantastic! Receptionist Marco helped us with booking great tours, he was very knowledgeable, polite and friendly. Restaurant staff were also very attentive and friendly, Carlos especially! The hotel setting is breath-taking, we had an unobstructed view of the volcano from our room.

Review 75:Did not get the room we booked. Title and pictures is misleading. Instead of a room with 3 beds we only got a room with 2 beds.

Review 76:Location, room and staff was nice.

Review 77:Nice room but not plush. No chair in the room to sit, just a stool. There was a closet but no dresser.

Review 78:The setting of the entire property was one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. A multitude of flowers and plants surround the room's patio which has rocking chairs and table for outdoor relaxing. The included breakfast in the restaurant had plenty of variety. Hotel staff was very friendly.

Review 79:The rooms are very spread out which made it hard to meet up with all of our people.

Review 80:The grounds were beautiful. The hot springs pool and bar were great. The food at the restaurant was good but the service was slow. Getting tours was simple with the help of the excellent staff at the front desk!

Review 81:All employees expected tips. For everything.

Review 82:Everything was perfect!

Review 83:+ very green resort with big private bungalows

Review 84:breakfast was a bit poor.

Review 85:beautiful place and high class rooms, with a great view of the volcano. hot spring included with a bar.

Review 86:all extras are quite expensive, for instance dinner

Review 87:very good breakfast, nice room, beautiful surroundings.

Review 88:Beds and pillows overstuffed and too rigid.

Review 89:Beautiful hotel with an amazing staff! Very friendly and helpful with things to do in Costa Rica. One of the best hotels I've stayed at!

Review 90:Could hear the couple next door to us.

Review 91:Beautifully manicured grounds, private accommodation, great views of Arenal Volcano.

Review 92:Pool and bar should stay open later or never close...

Review 93:Everything was great

Review 94:The entrance to the hotel was an unpaved road.

Review 95:I loved the view of the volcano, beautiful grounds, wonderful staff.

Review 96:Wifi

Review 97:Good building. Good service.

Review 98:Pool jacuzzi could do with a bit of tlc.

Review 99:View from room

Review 100:Confusing entrance

Review 101:Price , views, food, nice size room

Review 102:I liked the private bungalows, the food, and the staff !

Review 103:The hotel restaurant

Review 104:I liked everything, since I went off season the place was not crowed at all. Privacy of the room were excellent.

Review 105:The restaurant! They need to improve a lot!!!

Review 106:The excursion desk was great! Very nice and helpful staff. They recommended us some great trips

Review 107:Location is killer, just off the main road. Great value for the money. Highly recommend.

Review 108:Everything about it

Review 109:food

Review 110:location and room

Review 111:Bathroom, restaurant menu could be more fresh with dishes of the day

Review 112:Staff, location, facilities

Review 113:Nothing.

Review 114:Everything: clean, pretty, new, comfortable.

Review 115:Could hear everything adjacent couple was saying.

Review 116:Little cabanas are nice. Grounds are beautiful. Massage was awesome!

Review 117:None

Review 118:Great view of volcano, when weather cooperates.

Review 119:beautiful, well maintained grounds

Review 120:This time Arenal didn't open its top to us

Review 121:Excellent rresort to relax!

Review 122:Great people, awesome food, fantastic facilities, fun and informative tours!

Review 123:Wifi was an issue in my room and they couldn't fix it

Review 124:Location
