Reviews for Oak Bay Beach Hotel
Review 1:I had booked a suite room for my family because I required an additional bedroom for my 4 month old child. Upon check in the staff informed me the room we had was not a suite, however they did upgrade us to a suite for one night. However we had to move rooms the second day, and again were faced with not having a bedroom for our child. We decided to leave. Upon leaving the manager offered us a nicer room with a bedroom, but we had already packed our kid and were ready to go. This became a very stressful stay for us as a result and unsettled our child which pretty much ruined our new years. If someone is paying $300+ a night for a room, I think it important they get the room they felt they booked, especially when travelling with small children over the holidays.
Review 2:The hotel is beautiful and a very comfortable and relaxing place to stay.
Review 3:The change rooms in the spa area have very little space. There were two other men at the lockers when I was there; we were squeezed together, I had to move away from the locker to get changed, and we typically kept saying "sorry" to each other. My wife had the same experience in her change room, to the extent that she had to leave and dry off elsewhere. The location in Oak Bay is a fair distance from downtown Victoria, so a car is pretty essential. Also a deep wallet: $16 + $5 service charge + gratuity + sales tax for a bagel & cream cheese in your room x 2 with coffee= $ 50+
Review 4:This is certainly a well-appointed hotel looking out over the sea with an outdoor heated pool and a couple of hot tubs. The rooms are quite spacious with really comfortable beds and a large bathroom with a separate tub and a wonderful walk-in shower. There is an English-style pub and a fine dining restaurant. We ate at the restaurant and the meal, service and quality were outstanding if a bit pricey for us--2 entrees, bottle of wine (no appy or dessert) and tip--$160.
Review 5:The mineral pools were great. The staff went out of their way to be helpful, especially as we needed to change rooms due to proximity to the coke machine which was noisy. We ate at the lovely dining room. Parking is easy and free as is the Wifi. Will definitely return.
Review 6:My Stay in your hotel was pretty great . The helpfulness of your staff was awsome . Very nice staff. Our room was so clean. Loved the decor. We even had a bit of a view . Next time will bring a bathing suit.Wish it was a bit closer to shopping. I did not book the hotel and didn't really pay attention of the location. But in the end was very happy.
Review 7:Stunning hotel. We splurged and got the oceanfront suite. Worth every penny for our 20th anniversary. The hot tubs and pools overlook the water. Staff was very helpful. Free parking. Only thing I would complain about was the fireplace outside was never running while we were there. The hot tubs and pool were from time to time closed but it was due to bad weather. Nothing the hotel could have done.
Review 8:Suite was absolutely beautiful but located directly above the theatre on a weekend. Noisy.
Review 9:Great atmosphere , delectable coffee shop with wonderful detail. We would stay again anytime.
Review 10:Dining room staff were not as chipper as the front desk. They seemed a bit under staffed and stressed.
Review 11:I loved the room, the view and the food. The reception staff are super friendly.
Review 12:Nothing was wrong.
Review 13:Outstanding on all ways. Highly recommend. We liked getting away from hustle and bustle of Victoria by still being reasonably close.
Review 14:Best hotel bed I have ever slept in, very well appointed room, and what a bathroom! Loved the food, stunning views from the dining room, and wonderful service.
Review 15:I don't know exactly what makes our room smell like something's burning all the time, I guest it's electric heater or it could be that smoke which comes from chimney at the pool...anyway I felt sick and got headache in the morning and evening all 2 days staying in the room.
Review 16:room is very beautiful
Review 17:The location, the amenities and the resort were even better than the pictures. From the friendly staff to the ultimate spa experiences, this was totally a 5 Star vacation. Cheers!
Review 18:sofa bed uncomfortable. issue at check in which led to bad first impression - hard to shake despite best efforts of others
Review 19:amazing pool and hot tubs. loved the bathrooms staff in kate's cafe were lovely.
Review 20:Our first room suffered from very poor internet, a phone which didn't work and a highly sensitive smoke alarm (set it off making light toast). The IT people were unable to resolve the technology problems and upon checking out we were offered an upgraded suite for our second stay a few days later.
Review 21:We stayed twice, each for a period of 3 nights, as we toured Vancouver Island. This hotel is new construction in a traditional style, with high quality finishes and is beautifully maintained. Our first room faced the internal courtyard and was very comfortable with a small kitchenette. Our second room was a 1 BR suite with a large kitchenette and had a beautiful sea view. Both rooms were very quiet. We only ate in the Snug, but were satisfied with the food and the liked the friendly service and sea views. Underground parking was very convenient.
Review 22:The bed in my stateroom hada group of bugs, which destroy my whole night, and this is the only drawback of this five-star hotels
Review 23:The swimming pool is fully heated with mineral contents. Excellent!.
Review 24:Spendy, pool is far from room, Room service food was not good.
Review 25:Pool was very nice. Hotel was nice & comfortable. Staff was very kind. Parking was nice.
Review 26:We had a second floor balcony room which are unfortunately located directly over the bar terrace which we found a bit noisy and intrusive on a couple of occasions (maybe a room on the 4th or 5th floors would be quieter). The pool area can get quite busy and at peak times it was hard to get sun beds. As a swimmer I found getting up early I had the pool almost to myself and able to do laps.
Review 27:Beautiful sea view room with balcony. Helpful friendly staff. Fantastic location only 10 mins drive from centre of Victoria. Lovely pool area with ocean views.
Review 28:The staff made us feel quite welcome. We had a really enjoyable pub lunch which was tasty and not over-priced. I lost a bluetooth device which the front desk did all but stand on their heads to find, which they did.
Review 29:We booked a King size bed as that was a choice with Booking for the standard room. (Booked in January left in August) When I decided to verify our reservation a month before we left it said it was two queens. They were unable to put us in a King size room as they were fully booked. Despite this error we still had a wonderful time
Review 30:The bathroom was amazing, we loved the heated floor and the bathtub. The location was perfect, right on the bay and close to downtown Victoria.
Review 31:The service from ALL staff at this hotel was fantastic - going out of their way to ensure a happy stay. The food in both the formal restaurant and pool side par was exceptional
Review 32:Pool area was too crowded!! No chairs available
Review 33:Loved ocean view room!! Residential room view not so much. Pool area was too crowded. No lounge chairs! They can not accommodate the number of guests there!! Food was great!
Review 34:Had to ask for toiletries when they ran out, no balcony and flies in the pool and jacuzzi. Dirty plasters on the pool side when it first opened in the morning indicates the area hadn't been cleaned before it opened.
Review 35:Location, room and the Snug
Review 36:Not enough attention to detail such as pool area was not cleaned thoroughly enough on a daily basis. Waste bins in communal areas near elevators not emptied regularly.
Review 37:Location, views and facilities were outstanding. See-view room with balcony was amazing as was the restaurant balcony.
Review 38:Didn't like being singled out by being told we couldn't have drinks in the hot tub. People were doing it both days and evenings and no one said a word.
Review 39:Everything!
Review 40:The pool area was crowded during most of our stay. It also appeared that the hotel staff at the pool did not enforce the rule about saving chairs, lounges and tables. Was not happy with the room being on the ground floor with a limited view.
Review 41:The ambiance of the beautiful pool and spa area was ruined by loud children most of the day. You might consider creating an "adult swim" time to create a more relaxing experience. Pool area could have been cleaner.
Review 42:The views were stunning! The location was great and getting to and from downtown Victoria and Oak Bay was very easy. The amenities and facilities also went above and beyond - wonderful details! Food on site was delicious.
Review 43:our breakfast came in suite and was missing butter for pancakes and a straw and a few other small things. also the blueberry pancakes were asked for with the blueberries on the side but they came on top of the pancakes. we didn't have time to send back as we had to get breakfast done and make our ferry back home.
Review 44:everything but a few breakfast details were great! :)
Review 45:The light switches in the room are difficulty to find we had to call and ask. The bathroom fan cannot be completely turned off and are controlled by a timer. It's a bit noisy. We waited for 20 min for our breakfast in the dining room which was a bit too long
Review 46:Check in time is 4pm but we were allowed to checked in at 1:30. The staff were nice and helpful
Review 47:N/A
Review 48:We had a fabulous experience, with no need to ever look for another hotel in Victoria on any future trips ... Perfect location, great staff, stunning views and very comfortable rooms!
Review 49:Booked online and on arrival had a view of the road in our room. Feeling the point of staying at this hotel, we upgraded to a sea view - which was certainly worth the money. Also not a lot of options for breakfast and the restaurant can get busy in the morning, particularly at the weekend.
Review 50:Lovely location in Oak Bay. Excellent rooms and very friendly staff. Pool and jacuzzi, with a view, we're fab.
Review 51:Most of the hotel staff were attentive except for those working at the front desk and the concierge. Throughout our week at the hotel, we passed through the hotel lobby numerous times and were rarely greeted by anyone. They seemed indifferent bordering on rude which is not what one would expect from a hotel of this caliber.
Review 52:The property was absolutely gorgeous and situated right on the water. Our room was beautiful and we enjoyed the pool, spa and fitness room, too.
Review 53:Beautiful location and fantastic service. Could see harbour seals from our ocean view room and sitting in the warm mineral pools whilst watching the stars come out was something we will rember for a long time. A brilliant part of our honeymoon.
Review 54:This hotel is outstanding in every way! Bedroom and bathroom were magnificent; we did not want to leave the room. Service was very cordial. The pool area and The Snug restaurant at the hotel were fun; while eating outside at the latter, we saw an orca surface in the bay near the hotel. Even the underground self-parking floors were spotless! This would be a perfect honeymoon stay. We will definitely go back and stay longer!
Review 55:Really loved the view and the atmosphere of the facility. It was in a nice part of town. It was maybe not as convenient to town as some other places, but the setting and the view more than made up for it.
Review 56:Too expensive for the value. Service not on par with price. Onsite restaurant not on par with hotel. Courtesy shuttle not always available.
Review 57:Courtesy shuttle to public transportation.
Review 58:No bad experience, just that hotel is very grand and luxurious which of course = expensive. Restaurant, pub and spa prices high. It is located on the beautiful shore of Oak Bay, which is about a 10-15 minute drive to the downtown & Victoria Harbor area.
Review 59:The hotel is beautiful and the spa facilities were very luxurious. The staff here was very friendly, helpful and attentive.
Review 60:The in room food ordering menu was weak, the room was not changed out our 2nd day there ie, no new towels etc. someone forgot....we received the towels when we informed staff, would have liked a screen door on the patio, keep mosquitos out....
Review 61:Good Location
Review 62:The views are outstanding and the hotel is very peaceful as it is not in the city. The staff, especially William on the front desk were incredibly helpful. they ran us into town when we needed to go. Perect.
Review 63:The restaurant staff weren't great. We sat outside at a dirty table. One waitress came and cleared it but didn't wash it. Then we waited 15min for another server to come. We moved inside because it was too cold. Then our waitress seemed to forget about us. Took forever to take our order. The food wasn't anything amazing. They smother the plate of mussels with French fries? The broth didn't have any flavour. The drink service by the pool was terrible!! We had to chase down a server to give her our order. It took 45min to get a drink and we never saw the waitress again. My bill when I went to check out of the room was most double what I was quoted through booking.com. We ended up getting it sorted out. Just took 3 staff and 20 minutes.
Review 64:The view
Review 65:I am smoker was made to feel like an undesirable! I was told to stand in street away from hotel, no security for personal safety, no ashtray, no seat.
Review 66:Location and comfort.
Review 67:Our family travels frequently, and Oak Bay is one of the most beautiful hotels our family has seen! There is a shuttle (Mercedes Benz SUV) that can be booked through the front desk for free, and I had them drop me off/ pick me up from work. That was a nice touch. Restaurant wasn't as good, got cold nachos and the Manager said "I'll go speak with the chef" and we never got the nachos refunded ($19 for nachos, really?). Go to Nautical Nellies for dinner- you won't be disappointed!
Review 68:Hotel staff were always welcoming, the property and rooms maintain high standards of cleanliness and the mineral spa pools overlooking the ocean offers a nice, relaxing stay, which is much needed when trying to get away from the the busy daily stresses of life.
Review 69:I liked the way the staff handled a little issue my wife had with our salad we ordered through room service (there was a hard non-edible object in the salad which caused my wife to scrape her hard palate in her mouth) We received a verbal apology, complimentary dessert and the charges for salad were dropped
Review 70:Room we had, had some issues like the washroom fan not working and the room thermostat not working. I think for the price the room shouldn't have had these issues. Staff was friendly and it was super clean. Food was good too.
Review 71:Nice staff
Review 72:Awesome soaking pools, gorgeous room, hospitable staff and fantastic view. Although a little outside of city the property provides free shuttle and city bus is easy!
Review 73:This hotel is a bit awkward because it has a prestigious air about it and can be a bit stuffy, but it is located no where near downtown and is marketed as a resort. So you're stuck in this awkward place where you feel uncomfortable walking around in shorts and flip flops, but it's really supposed to be the kind of place where that's what you'd like to do. Not a big fan of the designer's room finishings as they are dark and old fashioned. Really weird open window-way between the bathtub and the main room. Overall, this place is very expensive and not worth the price.
Review 74:The bed was nice, the pools are nice (not sure why they call these spa pools....they're just normal pools) and the foyer is really beautiful.
Review 75:No breakfast. It should be included. For the price being paid........breakfast should be free every morning you stay.
Review 76:I liked every single thing about oak bay
Review 77:The oak bay hotel was amazing! The room was spacious and comfortable for myself and my young child. We especially enjoyed going for a swim in the heated outdoor pool under the stars. Afterwards we watched a movie on the complimentary movie channel in front of our fireplace while eating a pizza delivered by the hotel staff. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom had a large soaking tub.
Review 78:We could have used early notification that the dining room was busy with a private function. However, we went out and had an excellent dinner downtown.
Review 79:Aiden was fantastic at the front desk. So helpful and kind. The view was fabulous.
Review 80:Staff made several mistakes during both check-in and check-out (such as the total amount of the invoice and reservation time) which took us around 1 hour each time to resolve. The reception was not very welcoming and helpful.
Review 81:Great views, room is very clean and bed is super comfortable. Food is also delicious and affordable.
Review 82:Understaffed; Terrible Spa Facilities and path to Spa especially for winter; not by definition a Spa and Resort. Does not meet 5star standards. It is a great 4.5star
Review 83:Nothing
Review 84:We were upgraded to an ocean view suite, so tha was a wonderful surprise. The sunrise was amazing. We visited in early December so it was quiet but that's what we were looking for. Fabulous location 5 minutes from downtown. We loves the steam room and even the heated pools were wonderful outdoors. Amazing experience!
Review 85:The service was absolutely amazing with Shane at the front Desk and (Dayne?) managing the restaurant. One morning our breakfast was slightly late and he was so apologetic and professional and took excellent care of us! All hotel staff were friendly and approachable and were so accommodating to us, especially our cheeky 7 month old ! The hot pools were so luxurious and we spent out Christmas Day in the pool enjoying our drinks and the phenomenal views! The Christmas feast was delicious and the entire dining hall was so festive and beautiful, it really made our night! The beds were luxurious and soft and the rooms were large but cosy. All in all, an amazing Christmas away from our home in Brisbane, Australia and one we will never forget! Thank you Oak Bay Beach Hotel!
Review 86:Would have liked to walk more of beach from the pool area would have liked to see more exercise equipment and bigger work out room
Review 87:Location location. Awesome views of the ocean courteous staff - great customer service all around Delicious food Ambiance of the hotel with romantic setting room well appointed with comfy bed grounds well kept overall service is a 5 star
Review 88:I simply loved loved loved this hotel; the perfect blend of an ocean view, elegance and modern technology. Staff were amazing and responded promptly and with efficiency to requests; the bed and pillows made my time there feel like a home away from home:)
Review 89:There are a lot of mosquito's down by the pool/spa tub area!
Review 90:Location was amazing, looking right out onto the pacific if you're taking a swim or lucky enough to have a suite booking.
Review 91:This was our very first trip as empty nesters and the resort couldnt have been more perfect. Romantic room, tub and shower and soothing mineral pools with free parking in a beautiful setting. Wife was sooo happy.
Review 92:Bit outside Victoria, but the area itself is really nice. Dressing gowns were slightly dirty but not a big deal as we dont wear them anyway
Review 93:The location of the hotel is good, right on the coast. It makes for a lovely walk, the backdrop of Mount Baker makes for a great view. Hotel gardens are stunning, nicest i have seen in a long time. Room was lovely, large tv, fireplace, kitchen area, lounge area. Was top notch. A fantastic hotel wish we had more time there.
Review 94:the service at both the restaurant and the snug pub. wow. for a 5 star hotel, you would not imagine how bad the service was on both occasions we ate. the snug: i was amazed with how the server was more interested in talking to his 'buds' at the bar than asking us if we needed anything. each time he was talking to his pals, i had to interrupt him to get service. next morning, we had breakfast; it took forever to get our food, two other tables came in after us and got their food before we did. i could also hear the waiter/waitress talking to each other about the people they were serving (not very nicely) our waitress, was not around much, so i had to ask the other server for more coffee
Review 95:the hotel was great, the women at the front desk were very friendly. the room was spacious, clean, quiet and comfortable. the pool, hot tub, and steam room were just the best. open 24 hours. (they were all kept very clean) i was very happy that i didn't have to pay to park my car, that was two thumbs up in my books. it was very quick to get our room, and it was even faster to check out. the food at the snug and the restaurant were very good...
Review 96:The service in the snug pub, was not very good. We sat on the patio and the servers were more concerned with the people inside and a party of 8 that came into sit on the patio. My husband and I sat and was only served one drink in the half hour that we sat there. We had to go and ask for our bill from the server. Another couple sat for 15 minutes and not one server came to ask for a drink or apologize and would be right over and they received.
Review 97:It was a beautiful hotel everyone made you feel welcome. It was clean and very quiet.
Review 98:The doors into the rooms opens and close loudly which isn't a problem during the day but not so great when you leave for a 3 am swim.
Review 99:The pool is open 24 hours a day. The staff and quality of service is impeccable. The ambiance is quiet and friendly. The venue is one of the highest in quality that I've seen.
Review 100:The WiFi connection was a bit wobbly at times.
Review 101:The Oak Bay offered high class service and excellent facilities. Especially the pool layout was exquisite and the personnel was highly professionell, very attentive but not pushy! Excellent food in the restaurant as well, very tasty dishes with nice service and superb sea views. If you are going to Victoria and want a great location, go to the Oak Bay Beach! In my opinion outdoes the location of the Empress by miles.
Review 102:We specifically asked for a quiet room but were put above the area for a wedding reception, with an extremely loud band with the base on full. Had to listen to it until midnight, not good.
Review 103:Room was pleasant, excellent bathroom. Aqua class in the hot mineral pool was good. Buffet in the bar area also very good, reasonable price.
Review 104:The hanging lights in the corridor at the spa are dusty and the light by the door to the pool is full of insects.
Review 105:Literally everything. Food, spa, pool, room. The steam bath is awesome.
Review 106:We have been back in Australia for 5 days ,we stayed on Sept. 10th. 20 days ago,but our $100 deposit has not been returned in spite of having already contacted to front office. We were assured this would happen 2 weeks ago.
Review 107:Almost everything. 24 hour mineral hot tubs and heated pool were fabulous.
Review 108:Location was a bit far from the centre but they offer a free shuttle there and back if you pre-book.
Review 109:Beds were very comfortable. Hot tubs stayed open 24 hours and they served wine to you in the hot tub. Very quaint surroundings right on the seaside.
Review 110:Nothing!
Review 111:EVERYTHING! Possibly the best hotel I have ever stayed in. The room was sumptuous, a great view of the bay from a patio door and balcony, a pair of huge double beds, wide screen TV, lovely armchairs, sliding doors exposed a large bathroom with a huge bath, separate shower, enclosed WC, very well appointed kitchenette. Outside is a mineral pool at 104 degrees F and a hot tub which was even hotter; both with great views over the bay. We tried it all, even the steam room and it was all great fun and highly enjoyable. The restaurant wonderful with and the food is 'fine dining'. I cannot say enough about this place. It's worth every penny!
Review 112:The hotel is quite hard to find if you are not from the area.
Review 113:The beds are lovely and comfortable the spa is fantastic with the pools overlooking the sea so you can relax and enjoy the view, the food in Kate's café is good.
Review 114:As the hotel is fairly isolated we ate at the hotel restaurants both nights. The food and service was excellent. Thank you, Bess. We were very pleased to have you serve us both evenings.
Review 115:the Wi-Fi is kind of slow...
Review 116:everything about this hotel, the decoration is totally new, classic, elegant, extremely great view! We can actually see an open ocean right through my bedroom window, it felt like living above the ocean. Choose the King size bed studio because it's got everything you need -nice poor, located inside the garden and right above the sea, just a few glass windows on the edge of the pool.
Review 117:My husband and I chose Oak Bay Beach as our honeymoon destination and we would do it all over again. Staying at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel felt like a dream. The staff made us feel at home and as though we were regulars at the hotel. We would definitely stay there again!
Review 118:nothing
Review 119:We chose the location outside Victoria and it worked well for us as easy to get in and free with the courtesy car, whilst having benefits of seaside location. great modern rooms good food great bar
Review 120:We were on our honeymoon and we thought we would try a nice hotel. Boy, were we out of our element there. We felt very uncomfortable from the time we walked in the door. No one made any extra effort to help us when we walked in and through out our entire stay. We were charged almost $300 dollars for smoking on our patio. They never told us that we were not allowed to smoke on the property at all, so we smoked outside and still got charged for it. We were treated like we should've never stayed at the hotel. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone or the area. Very disappointing stay for our honeymoon and not worth over $450 a night.
Review 121:Rooms were beautifully furnished and very spacious with kitchenette. Huge bathroom with option to open shutters for stunning views over the bay while in the tub. All loved the spa area and heated pool. Superb
Review 122:Surprisingly limited menu in the dining room. Lack of description of the costs and facilities provided to travel into Victoria
Review 123:The courteous staff. The dining room food. The room and view The hotel location
Review 124:Top quality wine glasses and cutlery, but not much of a kitchen area in our room. Did have bar fridge, microwave, coffee maker and toaster.
Review 125:The room was very well appointed. I took pictures of the bathroom and shower, I liked it so much. These were the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in. We want one at home! It was extremely quiet at night even though we were on the street side. The layout and pool were fabulous. The Snug, a darling eatery. The staff couldn't do enough for you. An excellent experience, and we will be back.
