Reviews for Hotel Los Lagos Spa & Resort

Review 1:We originally booked a "superior" room, but when we got there, our room (#230) had 3 AC units attached to its external wall. With all of them working, it felt like sitting next to an airplane. And bed headboards are next to this very wall. Fridge was also very noisy. We were luckily upgraded to a much better room at no charge, but it took them about 3 hours to figure everything out, which led to us not being able to enjoy the hotsprings that evening. Restaurant is pricey and better skip their fish casado, those are half the price and double the quality in local sodas.

Review 2:Overall, the staff was very responsive, putting us in a better room after we were disappointed with the original room. They were also able to extend our stay despite fully booked. The facilities are nice, the 2 km hike to a volcano viewpoint is great! Breakfast is good, though selection does not vary too much day over day. They have a variety of pools, but all of them have the same water, just different temperatures. They have a great butterfly garden, ant conservatory, crocodiles and myriad of birds. It is heavenly.

Review 3:No concierge to help with tour info. Front desk English competency was med to Happy new year how is Michael? Very spread out, couldn't walk to restaurant.

Review 4:Pools were great and entertaining. breakfast. Was varied and expansive -didn't need lunch! Shuttle service around the property was very convenient. GreT view of Arenal volcano. Close to la fortuna.

Review 5:The lights in the bathroom could be brighter. The design could be more modern.

Review 6:I fell in love with Hotel Los Lagos. The astonishing view to: 1- The volcano from different angles. 2- The rain forest from the main restaurant. 3- The landscaping and pools designs as you walk to explore the hotel surroundings. I enjoyed the thermal pools by the wet bar. There are so many activities at this hotel. The service from all the staff is excellent!! I highly recommend this hotel for a great vacation. Great food...I'm definitely going back soon.

Review 7:The breakfast was too simple. The food in general wasn't the best.

Review 8:I loved the location and facilities. Everything looks beautiful. The pools were amazing and very clean.

Review 9:Not a good customer service at check in. Our room was only cleaned after we called in the afternoon. We got a wake up call at 5:30 that we did not ask for. I would try a different hotel at the hot springs next time. The pools are nice but the check in stuff put a damper on my stay.

Review 10:Our room was clean and large. The hot pools are amazing.

Review 11:Room seemed smaller than what pictures showed. Hot water diminished quickly.

Review 12:Resort was maintained amazingly. Multiple pools and hot spring pools were awesome with the additional benefit of having water slides and a wet bar. Restaurant was fantastic as well, free breakfast buffet.

Review 13:The rooms were below average for the area surrounding arenal/la fortuna. It was just okay. The hot springs were just warm, not hot.

Review 14:The hot springs and gardens were really nice. Beautiful surroundings and location.

Review 15:My only criticism is that for the amount of money we paid, the rooms themselves were rather basic/standard. At first I thought this was just the lodging standard for Costa Rica in general, but I went on to stay in some places that were less expensive and more luxurious. So for the amount we paid, I expected a bit more in terms of in-room amenities...

Review 16:The grounds were incredible… Simply gorgeous. Between the many pools and waterslides, and the lush tropical landscape, the resort truly felt like paradise. I personally loved the swim-up bar. :) Also lots of kid-friendly activities, so overall, the resort was great for families with kids. All the meals we had in the restaurant were also excellent.

Review 17:Lots of bugs, a few inside the room. Policy does not allow entering food or drinks to the hotel, so what is the purpose of the mini fridge in the rooms? Drinks are more expensive there.

Review 18:Great breakfast and nice pools. They should be opened for longer hours till midnight at least. Staff was nice. Bed was really comfortable. Awesome view

Review 19:Could use an update or refresh of facilities, not bad at all though.

Review 20:Great place for family vacation. Pool and slides were perfect for our kids 9-16 in age.

Review 21:Hot springs on site and breakfast. Also hiked to volcano lookout. The shuttle driver dropped us at the bar and came back when he found the monkeys for us to look at on the property awesome!!!

Review 22:Limited seating by pools. A few more lounge chairs would be welcome.

Review 23:Horse backing riding available onsite (additional fee). Water slides, hot springs were wonderful for all family members. Shuttles to get around property arrived within a moment every time.

Review 24:The Standard room is exactly that. Very standard. The grounds are the highlight and the standard rooms not very good value. Especially if you happen to be staying on the ground floor. I recommend that you do not stay in a ground floor apartment. We could hear every step taken by the people in the room above us. Not to mention their room had the World's loudest shower and toilet. We knew exactly when they were showering and flushing.

Review 25:There is a lot to see and do around the Resort and you can be kept busy easily. The wet bar was great until it was invaded by loud teenagers on a school trip who were allowed to overtake both pools and sit at the wet bar drinking non-alcoholic cocktails. Nothing relaxing about being pool side as upwards of 20 teenagers shout, scream and splash anyone and everyone. I would advise that you stay here early in the week as it started to get very crowded come Thursday afternoon. Even worse was a school trip from the US dumped up to twenty 15 year old kids who ran amok.

Review 26:Breakfast was just basic, but sufficient.

Review 27:We liked very much the hotel grounds, which were immaculate, and the thermal pools. We had dinner twice at the restaurant, enjoyed the setting, and everything we had ordered was tasting very good and was presented in an excellent way. The stuff was very friendly and helpful. The trails around the lakes, the crocodiles and butterflies made the grounds especially interesting.

Review 28:No negative experiences

Review 29:We arrived on Sunday from Atenas. No traffic on the road. Arrived at 1 PM and were allowed to check in early. Had time for a "sweet relaxation" massage and more in the spa and then a dinner in the restaurant. All good. The next morning had 5 minutes of heavy rain followed by mist and then sun. Spent the morning in the warm volcanic pools and then walked thru the jungle area on the property with butterflies, birds, giant crocodile and much and varied flora. By the time we left at 2 PM, 75% of Arenal was visible. We would definitely return to Los Lagos.

Review 30:The pool area was a bit theme parkish. We couldn't check in right away so waited for 3:00 and room still wasn't ready. It was nice but personally prefer smaller hotels.

Review 31:Cleanliness of hotel and well kept grounds was excellent. Had a variety of things to see and do. Loved the birds and iguanas in the restaurant. The sports bar was good and very accommodating. Good place to walk for strenuous exercise. Excellent views. Food was good and plentiful.

Review 32:The only thing I didn't like was that rained the 3 days we were there but we still had a great time.

Review 33:We were in los lagos 3 days, we had the best time ever. Los lagos has everything you need for a great vacations. The food, spa and the utilities are Amazing.

Review 34:The bed was really old ande the sheets sheets were scratchy. The toilet ran unless you giggled the lever and the toilet paper holder was broken so the toilet paper was just sitting on the sink. Overall the room was okay but not anywhere near luxurious.

Review 35:Loved the many pools and waterslides as well as the butterflies and crocs on the property. The best part of this property is the lush landscape and pools.

Review 36:Room in very poor state; air conditioning broken, fixtures and fittings in a poor state. In definite need of a refurbishment. Definitely not recommended, many other better options in La Fortunate. Made a mistake by listening to the kids who were seduced by the pools.

Review 37:Excellent location. Great pools and hot springs.

Review 38:Can't think of anything.

Review 39:Great place to bed down for a few days to explore arenal volcano and lake. Close to everything and hot pools with water slides provide a great way to finish off your night.

Review 40:Unfriendly and unmotivated reception staff, our first room smelled like a dirty toilet, rooms very old fashioned, no internet access in the room. Do not book this hotel!

Review 41:view of the volcano, slides in the pools

Review 42:This resort is great! The mineral pools- warm and wonderful! We loved the privacy of the mulitple mini-pools and the fun of the wetbar/large pool complete with waterslide. Food was FANTASTIC! Best arroz con pollo dish we've ever both had. Compliments to the chef! There are crocodiles, butterfly and frog gardens on site, a volcano viewing hike/lookout as well as zip lining and other activities. We would definitely stay here again.

Review 43:The grounds are AMAZING, the pool and hot springs were INCREDIBLE. The rooms were clean and comfortable, though you won't want to be in your room much... this property offers everything a visitor to the area would need, all in one location. Good restaurant (hot breakfast is included), zip lining, horse back tours, butterfly garden, frog garden, crocodile enclosure... all ON SITE! I cannot say enough good things about this resort.

Review 44:The hotel is overpriced for what you get, perhaps in it's heyday when the volcano was erupting you would expect to pay nearly $200 for the location to watch the lava flow at night from the hits prongs but not anymore. Coffee maker in the room but no actually coffee or tea, this had to be purchased, very poor and unacceptable when you are paying the price of a 3-4star hotel.

Review 45:The hot spring pools were nice enough, with different pools at different temperatures. The concrete rocks and trees surrounding the pool are a bit tacky. We enjoyed having a piña colada out of a pineapple from the swim up bar and the water slides are great fun for kids. Buffet breakfast was quite good.

Review 46:Courtains Should be darker to avoid light coming in, providing a better resting environment

Review 47:Variety of activities, gardens, volcano look, variety of Food

Review 48:walls in the rooms are a little thin, there was a student group there at the same time as us that it was a little too easy to hear them talking at night. But was not a big obstacle to an awesome place and experience.

Review 49:Right next to the volcano, wonderful views, pools are very nice with fun slides that the kids loved, swim up bar, food at the restaurant is excellent and a good breakfast. Very good value and we will definitely return there.

Review 50:When we checked in they drove us up the hill and left. When we entered the beds were torn apart, mattresses on the floor, no sheets, no power, and no phone to call the desk. I walked the long road down and the manager accompanied me back. When he saw the room his hands went to his head: "I Yi Yi!" But they gave us another fine room immediately. Be sure you check the room before the van leaves! Ha!

Review 51:The view of the volcano from our back patio was stunning. Be sure to ask for a room at the top of the hill. The staff was excellent, and the facilities are wonderful - a warm and cold pool, wet bar, and small pools all up the mountain offering privacy and more moderate temperatures. You may also book a massage, horseback ride and the sky trek zipline which is a must if you're a first-timer. This is my fourth visit to Los Lagos and it is my favorite in the Arenal region.

Review 52:Poor sleep both nights due to rock hard mattress. All facilities far from rooms. You had to call for a shuttle bus or drive your car to the pools, restaurant, spa and shops. Half of the hot spring pools didn't work and were under repair. They all need to be repainted as half the paint had flaked off. I have stayed at much nicer spa resorts in the area!

Review 53:Nice setting at the foot of the volcano. Staff was nice. Free breakfast was average.

Review 54:Staff was helpful but very business-like, not too friendly We had one extra guest in the from and the hotel charged us $50

Review 55:Beautiful facilities Hot springs Full breakfast buffet

Review 56:It is entirely up to you wether you want to have a day of adventure, total relaxation, or anything in between due to the resort settings and all the options surrounding it. From the resort's own thermal waters pool with pool bar to zip lining within the resort grounds. Great bicycling opportunities around the resort and great nature environment with the volcano and overall mountain feel.

Review 57:I believe the hotel rooms could use some refreshing the styling, but they are not unpleasant to stay in.

Review 58:The location really stands out and you can do a variety of things right on the compound. The spa was really outstanding! It is definitely very attractive, comfortable, and pleasant, both the physical and the staff.

Review 59:The food was terrible and terribly expensive. There were a ton of bugs and mosquitos. The kitchen staff were not exactly polite either.

Review 60:The staff was friendly and the resort was a blast. Great spa staff, the massages were amazing.

Review 61:The facilitys were amazing

Review 62:Only thing was raining. But any way it was beautiful place!

Review 63:Everything

Review 64:Individual pools need to be warmer

Review 65:This is a paradise on earth!

Review 66:Simple but beautiful location, view to the vulvano. Nice pool area thermal baths and spa. Perfect when travelling with kids

Review 67:Location

Review 68:Bed was bad, not comfortable Food was poor quality; lack variety

Review 69:Staff was very good and helpful Water Slides are great fir the kids

Review 70:The pools were great! Awesome view of the volcano. Definitely take advantage of the zip lining!

Review 71:We loved our stay!!! So much to do & so relaxing!!!!

Review 72:The bathroom for employes in the restaurant at the main pool had a bad smell

Review 73:My kids had a lots of fun!

Review 74:room

Review 75:location, landscape

Review 76:Nothing

Review 77:The entire experience

Review 78:the most amazing pool & water slides, beautiful & relaxing hot springs, close to beautiful La Fortuna!

Review 79:My boyfriend

Review 80:No internet in the rooms

Review 81:Crocodiles, butterflies, pools, canopy and nature

Review 82:Rooms were clean and adequate but really had no extras.

Review 83:Pools, gardens were beautiful.

Review 84:No beach furniture.

Review 85:Beautiful sunset on the beach.

Review 86:The value of our stay here was amazing and the location was perfect. The staff was amazing! I'll be visiting again!

Review 87:LA VEGETACION Y JARDINES

Review 88:We found the rooms with no maintenance and the beds really poor

Review 89:We like the environment and the landscape

Review 90:Pools, breakfast

Review 91:Volcanically heated hot pools Service

Review 92:- The room is pretty simple and not to well decoraded

Review 93:- Nice hot pools - Very good location - Amazing view froom every spot in the hotel

Review 94:Bar man at the wet bar was super unfriendly..:(

Review 95:Nice location with breathtaking view to the volcano.

Review 96:Came for peace and quiet, this was not the hotel for that.

Review 97:Not much

Review 98:We visited during the "off" season so many maintenance activities were going on. Water slides closed for work, pressure washing around pools during the day while we were trying to swim. My daughter cut her foot on a piece of glass by one of the pools. Overall disappointed in the property

Review 99:Very close to volcano. Best view in the area.

Review 100:The hotel is very unique, as it is built around a mountain. It could use some updating, but the rooms are very clean! The manager and staff are great! And the BAT BAR is a must!! Juan Carlos is a great bartender, thanks for making it one of our favorite bars in the world.

Review 101:The only tem I did not like...was having to leave. I highly recommend this resort...and please make a point to talk and befriend the staff.

Review 102:The staff made all the difference in our stay. Eduardo provided a great tour of the animal habitat and we are so appreciative for that...he is very knowledgable of all the areas...what a pleasure it was. In the restaurant the food was excellent and plentiful . The Casado dishes were huge and inexpensive. The staff in restaurant was great...special mention to Alonso and Grace...they were warm and friendly and made all the difference. Like to also mention that the rooms and gardens were beautiful. Like to also thank Don Luis, for the free drinks he provided my family one evening...which never had the chance to thank him.

Review 103:Bathroom shower area could be upgraded a bit more.

Review 104:Staff were all fantastic. Pools and gardens among best I have seen. Loved the place and would go back

Review 105:The room could be more comfortable (nicer) and even the towels could be softer for the price we are paying.

Review 106:I liked a lot all the activities that could be done with the kids, the location and all the different attractions.

Review 107:Staff seemed overworked, unhappy for most part Not enough staff at pool bar Everything closes at 10pm shuttles to your room shortly after

Review 108:Grounds were beautiful and well maintained Water slides and pools great

Review 109:Our rooms were far from the activities and restaurant so we had to take a shuttle every time and the shuttles were sometimes a long wait

Review 110:Everything!! Except the shuttle

Review 111:They charged me twice for our bar tab and had additional drinks we did not order. We ordered mostly non-alcoholic drinks, so my memory was excellent.

Review 112:The facilities are amazing.

Review 113:The rooms are nice and clean but average. I prefer beds that have mattress pads. We still enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

Review 114:We loved the resort overall and the hot springs. The staff was polite and helpful. The breakfast was nice. The view of the volcano from the look out was amazing!

Review 115:Some of the areas around the pool were dangerous even when walking. Two people in our group slipped and fell, one was very serious. None of the staff seemed to really be concerned when we told them. A month later, I still have a bump on my head from where I hit. The area is somewhat isolated. You can´t walk from there to anywhere else really, but you can catch a cab.

Review 116:the pools are fun, the slides are crazy fast. There is a good path to hike up to a lookout to see the volcano by the water.

Review 117:The hotel was fantastic - it's a resort in itself with 7 different spa pools, crocodiles, zip lining and beautiful surroundings! The spa was also very high quality - massages take place in beautiful rooms that are open to the elements!

Review 118:We stayed in a standard room. It was clean but lacked some amenities that other hotels of this level have. Such as a hand towel and wash cloth for each person, did not like the shampoo and soap despensers.

Review 119:the grounds were beautiful. 5 star quality.

Review 120:- personal at check in unfriendly - toilet was broken and broken parts were suited in the bathroom instead of repairing it - too less towels in the bathroom - after a call for new towels, they promised to bring new once, but they never arrived - after explaining everything at the check out, not even a small, we are sorry

Review 121:The pool towel distribution closed at 8pm but the pools don't close until 10 or 11...it as a nuisance to have to go to the front desk for a pool towel.

Review 122:The landscaping was fabuloso; the staff was muy amable and so helpful; the variety of activities were stellar, the room was big and clean; the volcano is awesome!!

Review 123:Beautiful grounds to walk around with canopy bridge, butterfly garden, frog, crocodile, and leaf-cutter ant enclosures. The regular and hot spring pools were wonderful. Good food at both restaurant and wet bar. Nice breakfast buffet included. Nice small gift shop with good selection. Resort was busy but not at all crowded since we were there during green season. Some rain showers, but overall nice weather for our August stay.

Review 124:We thought it was a bit odd to have a coffee pot in our room without coffee offered, but the coffee at the restaurant was excellent.

Review 125:It was a rather large property and shuttles were available if you wanted a ride. However, there were also nice walking paths down to the restaurant & pools too.

Review 126:The room, (smell of warm urine in bathroom), dry rot. the need to sign a waiver for body fluid excess, not that I had to sign it but the need for one. I could go on about staff, food but I prefer not to think of it.

Review 127:The entrance was nice. The staff and treatments in the spa were good. Only spending one night.

Review 128:Room was fine but a little small and sparingly decorated. No fan, onlyloud a/C. Bathroom also rather tiny and closet is in same'hallway' as shower and bathroom. For the price per night a bitmore luxury would be nice, but all other amenities on te grounds make upfor that. Obviously popular destination for (American) families who canbe rather present in the restaurants but the table seats for two nearthe trees are more quiet and small animals pass by..!

Review 129:Restaurant: very tasty and great quality food; one of the bestcasado's we had in cr! View at vulcano: while the day startedclouded, in 30 minutes time the view cleared up completely and we couldsee the vulcano in full!! Hot spring pools: different varieties, temperatures, nicely hidden in lush gardens, not too crowded (Sundayafternoon!). Jardíns with butterflies, frogs, ants, cricodiles: all ifthem within a few 100 meters of walking: a great (and easy) start to atrip full of (real) wildlife!
