Reviews for Burghotel auf Schönburg
Review 1:every thing were perfect, suggest you spend more time to this castle, garden, room and dining, beautiful castle, room was perfect, surprised mini bar were free, diner also very nice
Review 2:Bathroom is not very comfortable. The castle garden becomes a dirty place when it is raining. It might be noisy in the room from wind, neighbours, and trains.
Review 3:The castle looks amazing from both inside and outside. The restaurant is good. Most of the staff is nice and helpful.
Review 4:Staying here was one of the highlights of our two week trip to Europe. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had our one year old and they were very accommodating to her needs and making sure we had everything we needed for her including a baby bed, diaper pale, her own high hair and bib at dinner and even her own dishes and utensils for eating. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. They had complimentary fruit and drinks for us when we got there. The property is beautiful and well maintained. We loved walking around and seeing everything. We would love to stay here again.
Review 5:What a view from our room #35. 65 steps up from the lobby. Had to leave early to get our flight , so hotel set out a breakfast for us at 06:30. Normal time was 08:00. Had dinner one night we were there, very nice
Review 6:That we only stayed one night.
Review 7:It's a castle, impeccable staff, it's a castle, the scenery, it's a castle, the restaurant, the breakfast, amazing rooms and did I mention it's a castle?
Review 8:Unfortunately, the toilet kept running throughout the night, which was distracting.
Review 9:Loved the castle and friendly staff! I mentioned it was my birthday and they had a banner on our table waiting for us when we arrived for dinner.
Review 10:Breakfasttime ended too early (at 10:00 AM).
Review 11:The old castle transferred in such a romantc hotel. The furnishings, also of the bedroom, were really ashtoishing eye catchers.
Review 12:surprisingly noisy from nearby train lines, on occasion.
Review 13:Unique property in a superb location Convivial, helpful staff Feels like a country house party
Review 14:Setting, staff professionalism, food/drink selection and tradition. Rooms are comfortable and charming and overlook the Rhine.....one really can sense how the original residents lived.
Review 15:Access, couble stones difficult for aged couple 80,
Review 16:Salle de bain, plackard with utensils, shoeshine rag, umbrella etc. The lady ( receptionist ) helping us.
Review 17:This hotel was very fancy but what I most enjoyed about it was how much character it had. Strolling through the extensive gardens and seeing the beautiful castle from all angles was amazing. The inside held just as much intrigue as the outside. I can't really put in to words how amazing this hotel was. I would travel to Germany again just to visit this hotel.
Review 18:There was not already staff in the reception room which kept us waiting for minutes when we looked for them for help.
Review 19:Perfect view, fantastic building which gave us an unforgettable and very special experience in this hotel.
Review 20:No wifi! The hotel could get lots more publicity if you could upload while you are staying there. They have hard wire but only if you are traveling with a computer.
Review 21:This is how you want to travel in Europe! Beautifully renovated and kept the charm. Comfortable bed and lots of windows for fresh air. My favorite meal of the entire trip - enjoy the 4 course wine pairing! Breakfast was delicious with a wide variety. Grounds are lovely to walk.
Review 22:Ideally located, with views of the town and Rhine River below. The castle is impeccably maintained and includes a castle garden that is worth viewing. It is a history buff's dream stay, where remains of ancient structure blend with reconstruction. The hotel included nice touches, such as a decanter of sherry in the room with strawberries and chocolates. Although our room was small, it could be described as cozy and comfortable. The breakfast buffet included many options and was quite good.
Review 23:We were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and the castle made it a very special occasion to remember. We were presented with extra greetings and amenities in our room which had access to a balcony overlooking the beautiful Rhine River.
Review 24:Nothing.
Review 25:Beautiful location, well-trained staff, and the amenities of a 5 star hotel. The rooms and the property are well-appointed without being overdone, and the little extras (brandy and chocolates in the room on arrival, for example) are classy touches to an already classic experience.
Review 26:We loved staying at Burghotel auf Schonburg! It was so fun to stay in an actual castle. The guests get special access to the old castle wall. We Loved all the nooks and crannys. We also enjoyed the museum tower for the views and experience. I would totally recommend staying here!
Review 27:The 45 minute wait for the only taxi to get us from the jetty to the Hotel with our luggage.
Review 28:It was the best hotel experience in a month long trip in Europe. Wonderful!!
Review 29:The only thing they could improve to match more with the atmosphere, would be upgrading the ingredients of the breakfast like the cheese and the salami, I think regional products could be a solution (but not cheap uíndus trial as now)
Review 30:Very nice indeed. Seams not like a hotel but like a house. You feel in a castle. Avoid top rooms if windy, it can be very loud.
Review 31:One family member of the lessee/operator has a ego problem and probably no formal travel industry education. The dinner quality was good but the menu needed more variety.
Review 32:Just about everything!!!! It was a fairytale experience not to be missed!
Review 33:Felt a little in need of refining to be excellent.
Review 34:Enchanting to be in a castle surrounded by the Rhine Valley ...and the dinner at their restaurant was fit for royalty. Exquisite dining.
Review 35:There was a lot of traffic of visitors walking in and out of the castle and it's adjoining museum who could look straight into our room. The common room with the fire place could be a great spot to relax with a drink if it were not also the room that is connected to both bathrooms and the smoke room, which leads to lost of slamming doors or doors left open (and the wrong kind of smoke everywhere).
Review 36:We stayed in the watchman's house, which was a nice little spot with a great bed that is basically located inside the old castle wall, nice seating and a spectacular bath. Great startoff point for a hike or a boattrip along the Rhine. Food and wine were also great.
Review 37:The location and grounds of the property are so much fun to explore! The view from the windows to the river and countryside are like a model train set! The food and service were great and the rooms beautifully appointed. Complimentary apple sherry and mini bar made it so easy to relax and enjoy the property.
Review 38:Absolutely nothing!
Review 39:As a family we have traveled the world and stayed in places from -1 to 5 stars. The ambiance, the staff, the food.. all excellent. The owners will gladly engage in conversation and offer excellent wine suggestions from the local region. They have beautiful gardens you can explore and a genuine tree house! Our girls loved it. Wish that we would have planned more than just one night here. However we had a busy week traveling across Germany. We will absolutely return here again soon and plan a minimum of 3 days.
Review 40:The bed was a little hard, but I might just be picky. It wasn't that big of a deal.
Review 41:My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary. We had a great time! The service and food were both excellent. We even had the pleasure of seeing fireworks from our room balcony that over looked the Rhein river. It was a great and memorable night!
Review 42:Only had one night..
Review 43:We drove 500 miles from Vienna to stay at this Castle Hotel and I am glad we did, it was superb in every way the room, food, staff, views A+
Review 44:You're sleeping in a beautiful, historical CASTLE...what's not to love?! The staff take great care of the hotel and their guests. This was our second stay and I'm sure there will be a third someday.
Review 45:The fact that I had to go home.
Review 46:From the moment we arrived, to the moment we left, we were looked after to the highest standard! Every single member of staff was helpful and polite. The food was fantastic, the rooms were beautiful and we were even upgraded to the best room in the castle for our last night free of charge because it was my wife's birthday. I can't recommend this place highly enough! Other hotels should be training their staff here. It's simply the best!
Review 47:The tables were too close together at dinner so we had to endure the loud conversation of the couple next to us - not very romantic!
Review 48:Wonderful historical castle beautifully decorated and maintained with superb gardens. Unbelievable view over the Rhine. Excellent, helpful receptionist. Great breakfast. Sherry and apples on arrival were nice but to be honest I'd have preferred a cup of tea and a slice of cake...
Review 49:That we had to leave.
Review 50:Our huge room (#34) Breakfast (amazing) Dinner (amazing) Personalized Outstanding Service Views Mini Bar and Sherry included :)
Review 51:Steep walk up the hill but worth it!
Review 52:Attention to detail, four poster beds, room was cosy and warm despite being in an old castle, great atmosphere, were offered a free upgrade
Review 53:The castle is nearly impossible to find, especially if you arrive after dark. It was very hard to find the right road up the mountain. However, once you are there, the view is incredible. Its a beautiful spot in Germany
Review 54:It was an incredible experience to be able to stay in a castle, and everyone was extremely friendly.
Review 55:There were a group of parents staying the night to see a show next door at the youth hostel. The restaurant was not open before the show and closed before the show ended. There were a lot of people that did not get to eat that night.
Review 56:Wonderful combination of historical details with modern amenities. Great views. I highly recommend this hotel for a short or long stay in Germany. Thank you!
Review 57:Service... the guy that take our luggage to the hotel is unfriendly and drive reckless with his cart were guests also walk. Food is great and always make an exciting start, but annoys and make us loose the enthusiasms as it take forever from one dish to the other, as guests many times we are tired of our daily tours and love to eat good but not to stay forever in the restaurant... after eating we can decide if we stay longer for a desert or coffee, or feel free to rest. Most annoying of all is one male and one female waiters in the restaurant that seems to be feeling superior in relation to the hotel guests and providing a very poor service!
Review 58:Great view from my room, good food, beautiful place, good bathrooms and rooms, good housekeeping service.
Review 59:I wish it was less expensive, but you don't feel like they havent earned it.
Review 60:They thought of everything for my room and the dinner was exceptional. I will be back with family and friends.
Review 61:The staff was extremely accommodating, the breakfast was really well done, and the overall beauty of the place. The view was incredible and everything was squeaky clean. There is no doubt in my mind that I will be back one day!
Review 62:This is a wonderful place to stay. The staff was extremely attentive, helpful, and just plain enjoyable to interact with. When making our reservation online, I had asked for a balcony room--not only were we given one, it was huge and had a wonderful view! Our multi-course repast on Sunday night was terrific–every single item was perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. We loved the castle's public rooms filled with art and antiques throughout, and were totally impressed by the way the castle's nooks and crannies had been carefully transformed into delightful, and often romantic spaces--awash in the warm glow of the fireplace, or illuminated by the soft glow of candlelight or sunlight filtered by lead-glass windows. To sum up, it was unforgettable--we can’t wait until our next visit!
Review 63:Nothing
Review 64:This hotel was the highlight of my 3 week holiday. Everything was perfect from the room, the bed, the fruit and brandy in the room to the chocolates on the pillow. The breakfast had everything you could possibly want and the views were breathtaking. The staff was so accommodating too.
Review 65:It was very idyllic and unique hotel the bathroom was luxurious and the whole rooms were in a lovely cottage by the wall of the castle and the food was excellent
Review 66:From the narrow wood bridge to park, up the cobbles through the gate toward the castle, my eldest said "I think I am going to cry"because of the beauty. And we hadn't even checked in yet. Stunningly appointed, fantastic rooms, quiet location, courteous staff...lovely gardens, cool real treehouse, giant chess set. Really a special place.
Review 67:Too far from town. Not easy to stop into to grab a sweater. Staff not that knowledgable for US travelers they couldnt give specifics about trains etc.
Review 68:It was lovely overall. You got a castle expetience but had modern comforts. Breakfast was included and was excellent. The viewd were amazing. The only problem was it was a big hike uphill from town so the hotel is not easy to just stop into if you forgot a sweater. Would recommend if you want a luxury unique experience.
Review 69:We weren't told that dinner was included with our room the second night we were there. Also, the walk from the car park up to the hotels was steep and would be difficult for anyone who has a hard time getting around or is traveling with a lot of luggage (although I'm sure the wonderful staff would help if needed).
Review 70:We stayed in two different rooms, and each was wonderful. The attention to detail was fantastic, from the room furnishings to the expansive gardens. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful, and most of them spoke English very well.
Review 71:The dinner was just ok and not worth the money- at least the night we were there. But we didn't have to leave the perfect castle to eat.
Review 72:The room was unbelievable. Exploring the castle was a great adventure. Our room was amazing and the gardens are incredible- spent hours exploring. Only wish we had been there for much longer. The staff was so helpful and friendly
