Reviews for Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai

Review 1:Buffet breakfast lacks variety and quality.

Review 2:Good location - very close to subway lines. Taxis are a little difficult to get from the hotel during peak times.

Review 3:English poor by hotel staff - breakfast quality of food average . Hotel decor very grand but need updating . coffee ridiculously expensive at £8/cup

Review 4:Location

Review 5:The bed was firm for my taste -- a futon mattress, reflecting the Japanese ownership and clientele.

Review 6:A luxury hotel at very moderate price. Fantastic shower -- like a massage! Wonderful heated toilet seat with built-in bidet. Clean and well-kept hotel with excellent and elaborate breakfast buffet. Location couldn't be better; in the French Concession, an easy walk from great restaurants and a huge quantity of clothing boutiques.

Review 7:The location and the amazing view over the city. Excellent room and very comfortable bed. There is a French patisserie nearby, an enjoyable alternative to the expensive hotel breakfast!

Review 8:Did not like the same breakfast day after day also did not like the fact that if you chose the Japanese breakfast you cannot come back to the buffet. So if you don't like the Japanese breakfast you are. Out of luck that morning. They should include seasonal fruits not just what they budgeted for.

Review 9:I like the purified water from the faucet

Review 10:Very hard bed for Westerners... I think it was just a box spring (?). The hotel staff did try to compensate by putting a comforter under the fitted sheet but I would suggest having a choice of softer beds in some of the rooms.

Review 11:Excellent customer service, quick to help with anything we needed. Great location, easy transport services (taxi, mini van to airport, etc.). Very nice, well equipped room.

Review 12:The bed was rather firm.

Review 13:Location is good to roam around the French Concession, it's about a 10 minute walk to the subway. The lobby is very nice and there is a pool.

Review 14:No enough safe and security .any body can go up to elevater , dont need key to access the floor , this is a little bit dangours for client .

Review 15:I got a upgrade room, it is so wonderful ! Service is excellent , every body is so friendly ! location is wonderful ! a lot of nice shops around these area . the garden is beautiful . However i will select this hotel next my trip.

Review 16:The room airconditioning would not lower temperature sufficiently so our sleep was disturbed each night by being too hot. Windows don't open to allow fresh air flow to counter the problem.

Review 17:Staff are clearly well trained to provide excellent service to guests. The garden in front of the hotel is a pleasant place to stroll and get out of the building.

Review 18:When I checked in there were some chestnut shells under a chair, and a very long dark hair on the shower knob. Didn't see why a guest should pay to use the pool. This has never happened to me anywhere and should be spelled out somewhere on booking .com

Review 19:Pleasant setting, very helpful staff, great garden view

Review 20:Breakfast was poor for gusts with western habits, and its price (over 200 yuan) was ridiculously high.

Review 21:Okura is situated very well close to many historical attractions. The hotel itself is nicely designed in a traditional style. The lobby housed in a former french mansion is beautiful. The room was sparkling clean.

Review 22:The bed was very hard. Imagine sleeping on an ironing board. The free WiFi is slow and unrealiable.

Review 23:Very helpful and friendly English speaking staff. Location.

Review 24:The bed was very hard and not comfortable.

Review 25:Not one of the many random 5 star hotels in Shanghai - great location at the heart of FC, easy access to underground and shops in the area. Great views of the Garden from the room as well.

Review 26:especially room is so cold! and breakfast.unvaluable! Staff unkind..no motivated.. just chinese style mixed strange japanese manner. If u wanna have good memory in shanghai, you can try other hotels!! Price really cannot agree. It is Just OLD motel..with big garden...

Review 27:only swimming pool, few people use.. so water is too clean!

Review 28:Bed was hard as a rock and so uncomfortable Rooms are in serious need of an update

Review 29:Staff was quick and friendly French restaurant on 33 was surprisingly good and the service was the best compared to other places I have visited on the trip Wireless internet is free and pretty quick

Review 30:There could be improvements in the service of coffee and tea during breakfast time; it was not self-service nor voluntarily offered until requested. The garden could be perked up for example with colourful flowers or benches.

Review 31:Foremost is its great location in the French Concession area, a quiet elegant area with access to closeby modern shopping streets subway stations, and the historical sights. Helpful and efficient staff in line with Japanese tradition. Abundant East & West breakfast buffet to our delight! Fully equipped comfortable bedrooms with great garden and city views, as well as speedy elevators.

Review 32:Lounge area, over crowded. Needs another area to relax and have snacks or coffee. Not able to sit and do business in comfort, this is the reason we only stay if our preferred hotel has no vacancy.

Review 33:overall ok

Review 34:Great location in the French Concession, near metro station for getting to other areas. Great range of services, bars, restaurants (incl Japanese), especially Sky Bar on top floor with great views over the city and impressive wine selection. Good pool, gym and other facilities. Great value for money at 125 a night for good room with breakfast in prime Shanghai location. Helpful and friendly staff. We were upgraded on arrival, room excellent, large bathroom with great shower and space age toilet. Nice Japanese extras like dressing gown and kimono, hot water for noodles/green tea. Would definitely stay there again.

Review 75:woke up by housekeeping almost every morning, they are such noisy and talk loudly, very bad management.

Review 76:should have some Indian food too.

Review 77:Facilities and treatment

Review 78:The hotel is old and the carpets seem dirty. They should replace them with new ones.

Review 79:Location is great The sauna and spa is beautiful

Review 80:the room rate is around 3000 RMB each night, but the service is really really very poor, my bad experiences as below: - the staffs are not speaking English -The room are smelling bad, old smelling. - In last day of our staying, The shower gel and hair shampoo is not replacing new, as well as the tea bags and Nestle coffee bags, no more News paper as usual in the morning! very lousy management. -the food quality in Rose restaurant is very very poor, especially the dinner buffet, with cost of 298 RMB/Person, we did not expect a five star hotel will supply such limited and low quality food, we even can find the foods left from bread fast are still supplying for the customers in dinner time !!!! i asked the cashier woman why your restaurant supply such bad food for us, she said yes, we did not have a lots to eat in our restaurant..... we left with deep disappointments for this hotel, and swear we will never choose Garden hotel Shanghai again in our life.

Review 81:Hotel has smoking floors. We requested non-smoking rooms (booked 2 rooms), but had to stay at smoking floor/room for the first night due to hotel was fully booked. They changed us to non-smoking room second day and free upgraded our room to face nice garden.

Review 86:I did not like they charge me for three nights my booking for three nights and decided to check out one day earlier I payed one night and did not stay ,reason only I book three nights and I have to pay three nights

Review 87:Decor a bit old and in need of some refreshing; the bathtub, with its plastic curtain, was dowdy and uninviting, the minibar was a bit sad.

Review 88:The location.

Review 89:The location is excellent and the grounds are lovely. The hotel is older, but extremely well maintained and very efficiently run. The rooms are small but comfortable and also well maintained. The service was good. There is a good gym and a good range of coffee shops, bars and restaurants. I thought it was very good and will stay there again.

Review 90:Very interesting history. I was born in Shanghai in 1942 my mother and father both came to the French club often my father worked for the French Municipal Police and we lived not far from here in the French Concession.

Review 91:Location was fantastic just 10 minutes away from city centre. Trainstation just 100 m away. Buffet for breakfast was complete and as aforeigner most of foods were suit our taste.

Review 92:Unexpected charge of 50rmb per person to use the very old and outdated fitness center and pool. It was empty and I didn't use it either.

Review 93:Cool but dated hotel with lots of Japanese tourist. Good location. Free upgrade. Free wifi.

Review 97:The Okura allows smoking in all of its bars and restaurants. Yes, there are non-smoking tables but they are not in separated spaces. In reality, if you do not smoke, you are only safe in your room. It's like living in an enormous ashtray! In spite of the fantastic room, I wouldn't go back here if it was free of charge.

Review 98:Okay, the good news. The junior suite I had was excellent. Rooms are well decorated, practically designed with plenty of space and luxury amenities. Also, the location, close to a MRT station, is practical.

Review 99:Everything was excellent: spacious and clean room, impressive lobby, breakfast buffet with variety choices (both western and Japanese food),good service and good location (close to the metro station and shoppingstreets).
