Reviews for A&O Aachen Hauptbahnhof
Review 1:WIFI very weak. They need to sort out the doors as they kept slamming shut every time someone went to/from their rooms
Review 2:Good location next to railway station
Review 3:Very very rude employee at the reception. Even though there were 4 free parking spots and we had made a reservation over booking.com, he said he sees no reservation and would not let us park at the hotel. We complained to the hotel about this but never got a reply. The hotel is also a hostel, the room was a lot worse than the pictures show. Two bunk beds and a double bed stuffed into a tiny unwelcoming room with white walls, we had no place to put our bags around the bed. Fat people would have trouble getting through between the bed and the wall. Also the room was next to a terrace. While we stayed there it was cold and noody was outside, but in warmer days it will be pretty full and very loud.
Review 4:15 min walk to the city center.
Review 5:Be careful, hidden expenses: if you stay in dormitory room you will have to pay for bed linen about 3 EUR or have your own. This is not mention on Booking.com, nor on Hotel/Hostel site.
Review 6:1. Personal is open to help and speak English very well 2. Location is perfect 3. Hotels looks very new and clean. I can't call this hostel anymore, it is actually nice hotel 4. easy access to room, good bed linen quality, free Wi-Fi in hotel hall
Review 7:The toilet door in room 216 was missing.
Review 8:The Location was excellent. Right next to the station yet not noisy at all. Within walking distance of all major sites. The room was adequate for a family of 4. Buffet breakfast was amazing (excellent value for money).
Review 9:Overall, the staff was friendly, only the guy at the reception when we checked in was impolite and visible irritated. I bet he had a bad day. He was so rude that it became hilarious :-).
Review 10:The hostel is clean and easy to find.
Review 11:• I had to move the room because the heater makes loud cracking noise in the morning (4 am!), probably due to excessive calcification. In the new room, the same problem occurred again. • The process of re-assigning the new room took around half an hour. The staff blamed that the computer was slow. • The floor of both rooms was sticky.
Review 12:Everything was in a very good condition in our room, everything looks like new. The beds are very comfortable which is very important when you are on a long trip with a lot of walking and siteseeing.
Review 13:My room was at the ground floor next to the parking lot, the noise from the road/ ppl chatting / smoking outside the hostel all over the night
Review 14:Good location, 2min walk from train station
Review 15:Very clean, large room. Toilet and shower were in seperate spaces in the room. Staff very friendly. 24 hour reception. Safe parkingplace at the hotel for 10€/day.
Review 16:I booked a parking. But, they rejected it. They said that they had not received the request from Booking.com. It was not sure whether the hotel or Booking.com was wrong. I had to find another parking. Although I could find it just behind the central station, the price was higher...
Review 17:Good cost-benefit
Review 18:The room are small so sometimes is quite difficult to manage the luggage there. Just one bathroom per room, but with just 4 persons it's not so difficult do manage.
Review 19:The room are great and clean, with good beds and mattress. The bathroom is inside the room and it's so complete that is unbelievable for a hostel. It is besides the Hauptbahnhof (Hbf) Station what also make this a great option. Near taxi stop and bus stop. The city is quite small so it is easy to go to almost all touristic places by foot from the hostel.
Review 20:My roommate was quite noisy.
Review 21:In a 4-bed-room we stayed only 3. The bed was very comfortable. The room& bathroom was clean. There was hot water for free. It's very close to the railway station. The minibar at the reception was great. I was travelling alone but never felt unsafe.
Review 22:The noise from the streets and sound of transportation
Review 23:The location was good but noisy, I like how clean and neat the place was , I had a single room and everything was included
Review 24:Optional breakfast quite expensive for what it is. I asked the staff for a small repair in the bedroom in the morning, the guy in the balcony took note, but nothing happened when I came back to the hostel in the evening.
Review 25:Just in the corner of the central train station you can sleep well if train noise does not disturb you (yes, trains can be loud even in the night).
Review 26:Friendly staff were very nice and supportive. Great location, large reception hall & bar with TV, people could watch football match with beer and friends.
Review 27:My room was extremely cold when I arrived. Breakfast was miserable, and you have to clean up by yourself, which is ok for the price of hostel, by I paid for hotel.
Review 28:Very close to the railway station.
Review 29:Even a wardrobe with few hangers in the room would be fine. Exchange of towels as well (you can get them at the reception only) Please no rotting bananas and somewhat smelly eggs for the breakfast! :-(
Review 30:Excellent location: Very close to railway station. City centre in 10 min. of walking distance. Perfect for short stay
Review 31:The room was spacious and very clean. Strategic position to reach the city center (10 minutes walking) and 2 minutes walking from train station. Good soundproof windows, we could sleep well even if close to the railways.
Review 32:We have to pay for the sheets separately? That was not expected at all. I have reserved a parking slot, when I got there, I was told that the parking was full and I need to find somewhere else.
Review 33:The hotel didn't have Internet connection for two days and nobody seemed to care about. Apart of a "I am sorry, what can I do" and sending you to the closest McDonald's the staff didn't do anything. We were practically disconnected for business.
Review 34:Good location
Review 35:We could find a good double room for the same price as 2 beds in this hostel. There is little place for luggage. Extra 3.50 for sheets and towels. Too loud because of railway station located nearby even when windows are closed.
Review 36:Not a gorgeous hotel but hostel-like. You need to come down to front to exchange your towel. Bed is a very simple one.
Review 37:Next to the main station. Room is very clean. Good value for money.
Review 38:Buy bed sheet
Review 39:Clean room Good internet Check out time is 10 am but I check out at 11:15 so it was still no problem Very close from central station Just 1 min walk to the left Price was good but need to buy bed sheet Highly recommend
Review 40:Want bedsheets? 10EUR EXTRA Wanna sleep alone in your room 80EUR EXTRA Want parking for your car? 10EUR EXTRA Checkong in earlier? 7EUR EXTRA Paying with credit card? 3,5EUR EXTRA The cleaning lady steps into your room every moorning regardless if you have the "Do not disturb" tag on your doorhandle waking you up just to ask if you need towels. No ventilation whatsoever with temperatures of 30degrees celsius in the room. Incredibly noisy.
Review 41:Nothing
Review 42:I stayed in a female dorm but space was pretty small to fit all the suitcases and stuff that we all had, the staff could have been more helpful as many time the reception was crowded and the service was slow
Review 43:one of the cleanest hostels I've stayed in, location is very good exactly next to the main train station and 15 minutes walking from the city center, very good free WIFI, hint: facilities offer a new and good equipped shared kitchen in the basement that most people don't know about
Review 44:Everything in the hostel (not in the hotel at all) was disappointing and poor: we booked a double room (supposed to be with a double bed) and they gave us two filthy single mattresses.. Not even the blankets were at their place and there were no cushions but some strange stuff-camping style. The room was small, uncomfortable, extremely noisy also during the night. The stuff was cold and stiff, not willing to help. A terrible experience Paid at a relatively high price even (almost 100 euros).
Review 45:The only positive aspect of this hostel (it's not a hotel at all) is the position, not too far (15 minutes walk) from the old city center of Aachen.
Review 46:Mattress of the bed was covered with rubber sheet. That's great for cleaning but make you sweat during a night. Communal toilet was with some water on the floor from a leak. Sink wasn't really cleaned in the morning and toilet's seat had inside dirt (not cleanable). Check out and breakfast times could be longer, 10 o'clock is really too early.
Review 47:Great location, close to everything. Friendly staff. Free internet, although you need to take some time to register whether on some hostels you just get a password.
Review 48:After the breakfast were not willing to cook more eggs when they ran out at breakfast we talked to the manager and he did not care and literally threw our money for breakfast at my wife. When I went back to try to talk with him he disappeared and no employees could tell me where he was. We will never stay at this hotel or any close to its name again.
Review 49:quite noisy outside, especially on weekend. I booked 3 days, after 1 day I would rather to cancel the booking, yet was told, not possible or too complicate....
Review 50:Traffic and train noise.no tea making facilities in room but free hot water downstairs
Review 51:City centre location great but noisy. Beds very comfy Family room spacious. Good shower.
Review 52:• Very, very unfriendly receptionist at my arrival at the late eveningof July 15th • Very loud location between railway and main road •Insufficient isolation (in my opinion). I could hear my room neighboursfor many hours during the night • Room was not cleaned enough, I founditems of previous residents
Review 53:• The location is close to Aachen hbf
Review 54:This is a very nice hostel. The facilities are excellent, and everything was very clean. Breakfast costs a little more, but is very good. The view from my room was surprisingly good, as I was on the top floor.
Review 55:At three in the morning, I was awakened by a large group outside talking loudly. Then, metallic, banging noises all night. I got three hours of sleep. Two of four beds were not made, so there were NO sheets or duvet covers.
Review 56:Check in poor. Person on the desk helpful but overwhelmed by arrival of at least five people in quick succession; I have a problem with management who do that to their staff. I also have a problem with a credit card surcharge. Room facilities ok, but bathroom fixtures had not been cleaned. Noise in reception annoying. Poor value.
Review 57:Location. Easy to find. Building quite interesting. High ceilings and really good blinds to deal with the sun.
Review 58:The WiFi does not work occasionally (4th floor). Since it is a hotel&hostel, there were many teens in lower floors and made some noise at night.
Review 59:The hotel is just next to the station and you can find it once you step out of the station. There are several restaurant nearby and some of them are opened till midnight.
Review 60:advertised that they had reserved parking but that had been not true for some time. had to find space at a public garage with overnight parking rates
Review 61:simple but very clean. 10-15 minute walk to center of city / DOM
Review 62:3.8€ for a coffee at the counter (there's a vendor machine which sells it for 1.5€, though). A bed in a dorm 4-beds room too expensive. Users I've seen in the hall were mostly commuters, and families, not backpackers, but maybe was just the wrong period to visit, or maybe it was because the common space did not look cool to spend time, and people went somewhere else. Second even staff unfriendly.
Review 63:WiFi stable, I could work on a solid desktop (but there's only one) the whole morning and deliver my project. OK for a stopover. First evening staff very friendly.
Review 64:The rules for travelling with children are completely not clear at www.booking.com. Kids may stay for free but only in a specific type of room. There is no information on it while booking. The staff have got our reservation (few month before commoing to Aachen) in which we clearly wrote that we are going to come with a child. They didn't read it. After check-in our group were separated into two different rooms what demolish our plan. Additionally we had to pay more than it was at our reservation. The staff at hostel was not flexible to solve the problem.
Review 65:It easy to find hostel when you come to Aachen by bus or train. Rooms are clean. Good place for staying for short time
Review 66:check in was very slow - room was so basic they could not have removed anything more.. not even a plastic cup in the bathroom, no chair, no proper sheets on the bed, just some kind of rough mattress cover. apart from the fact it was close to the station I could find absolutely nothing to recommend it.
Review 67:Close to the station
Review 68:No electric kettle was provided when requested rather was a plain no , despite it was written at several places that kettle would be provided on request. also there was no glass in room , the glass dispenxwr in bathroom had only 1 glass left , there was too much of thumping noise on upper floor
Review 69:LocAtion cleanliness
Review 70:To pay with credit card you have to pay a abusive TAX. We didnt know we have to pay extra TAX to use the bed sheet. They don't have LOCKERS in the dormitories, if people can share rooms with stranger they must have to provide lockers. The staff is very bad, the two night desk staff were totally unfriendly with our questions.
Review 71:Room is clean, good shower, good breakfeast for 7€.
Review 72:The family room is small in size.
Review 73:I liked the central location.the young staff were very helpful, friendly and cooperative. we liked the kid's corner in the breakfast lounge. the back entrance helped us a lot with dragging our stroller and luggage (ask the receptionist about it )
Review 74:The double bed was small, the TV was mounted on a way that didn't allow me to watch it from bed.
Review 75:It is close from transportation, staff speak good English, close from aachen university.
Review 76:This really is only a hostel, not a hotel, even though they call themselves a hotel. I was misled. Booking a single room means you get a not-so-comfy single bed in a 4 bed-dorm room. Ambience of lobby and hall more like that of a train station. No desk, no chair. Wifi not for free, must provide and confirm email address.
Review 77:cleanlyness was perfect, both in public areas as well as in room/shower/toilet.
Review 78:The reception staff was extremely slow, rude and disorganized. Our car was towed from out front of the hotel from a parking space they said was fine to stay in. We came to find out from the towing company that they tow a car from that spot almost daily and it's the hotel patrons that pay for it!
Review 79:The family room was very spacious, clean and comfortable.
Review 80:The staple bed, is a very bed for some one with a bad back. the printout you get at the reception doesn't include room number. and there English is sup par.
Review 81:good location,
Review 82:Heating wasn't good. Room was cold. Wifi didn't work well in the room. Staff was friendly but not very efficient or just too low in numbers. But overall would visit again.
Review 83:Good quality rooms, beds and bathroom.
Review 84:Not the cheapest hostel ever, so for this price bed sheets and towels should've been included. The free WiFi is ok, but the login mechanism was a bit clumsy. Check-in time could've been a bit faster.
Review 85:Basic, clean rooms with comfortable beds. Free WiFi! Friendly and helpful staff. Online reservation yet paying on the spot. Overall a pleasant stay.
Review 86:To be honest nothing, this is a hostel aiming to be a hotel, it is more than I expected!!
Review 87:We stayed at a family room, double bed with bunk bed for kids. Very new and clean bathroom with shower an seperate toilet! Beds and sheets clean and room big and very comfortable!! Oke the television did not work bu hey it is a hostel/ being almost a hotel. I would definately recommend this hotel for its location, the size of the familiy room, the new bathrooms and seperate toilet!
Review 88:During the check-in be ready for the charge of 3 euro per bed lining. Also you can pay for your stay only in cash. These two issues were really uncomfortable as I wasn't notified ahead.
Review 89:I've booked a place in room for 4 people and was accomodated in the empty room without anyone. The balance of price/comfort is really nice as I had a separate baathroom in my room. Staff is very attentive and helpful.
Review 90:Strange lock on toilet door (inside out?) They don't make your bed/clean the room every day Some noise from the nearby station, but that could be expected
Review 91:Close to station Friendly and helpful staff Walking distance from the center Pleasant practical room (good heating, enough power socets)
Review 92:- staff although friendly, seemingly they did not received sufficient training (or any training at all) to run their shift properly, but that is not their fault - some of the arriving guests were a bit intimidating at check in (it was late), but no major drama at the end. Also we have seen a couple of guys who were not even guest, just came in to the lobby to discuss a "business" grievance (late at the evening, guess what the business was...) - the hotel is near the train station. It is not the best area of Aachen. (to say the least) - there is no manual lock on the front door inside of the room, I believe this could be a safety issue.
Review 93:- Central location, easy to find - Friendly staff - Good breakfast - Clean and tidy, spacious family room - Reasonable price - Pet (dog) friendly - Despite of some of my negative points, the hotel felt safe overall and we had no issues whatsoever. - The place is much friendlier at the morning than it was the night before. - Free parking at the back of the hotel
Review 94:Very noisy! No carpet and a door at the end of the hall that slammed was quite a nuisance. Getting to sleep was difficult.
Review 95:Good place for the location.
Review 96:Noise of trains, noise of people walking around outside the rooms
Review 97:Clean, decent beds, good shower, Cathedral and Christmas Market on walking distance, acceptable breakfast, pool table
Review 98:You have to rent bed linen, luckily I had a sleeping bag.
Review 99:Located very close to the Aachen Hauptbahnhof, and only a short walk from the city centre. The room was clean and warm.
Review 100:Bed linen costs extra and not included in the price The price for breakfast is overestimated - its better to have it in the cafe nearby
Review 101:Just beside the railway station and really close to the city centre. Bathroom was really clean
Review 102:Parking: the hostel charged 7,5€ but the parking was full when came back at 23:00!!! Had to look for other place to park outside. Expensive and limited in time in railway station area. Noise: came during Weihnacht's Markt and hotel was full ofDrunk Christmas Fathers. One side of the building have nice view on the rails & trains (+ sound!)
Review 103:The hotel/hostel is located 10 minutes by walk from the center. Design from the room: High celling, large windows, recent bathroom. Family room 4 peoples
Review 104:It looks a bit institutional.
Review 105:Great value and location. The bed is comfortable and the room is quiet when the window is closed. Overall a great spot for a short stay in Aachen.
Review 106:Pillows are crazily inconvinient, it's impossible to sleep on them
Review 107:Location is awesome, the room was clean. The hotel is facing a busy motorway but sound isolation is very good
Review 108:Not much space for the luggage
Review 109:Good location, very close to the railway station and just 10 minutes walk to the city center, clean, it was a hairdryer in the bathroom, nice decoration of the room.
Review 110:I didn't sleep well the first night partly because of the noise caused by frequent train passing by. And I slept well the second night.
Review 111:1. Good position, nearly beside the central train station 2. Quite professionally run; it's a successful chain hostel 3. Wonderful WIFI
Review 112:The directions from the train station to the A&O were not clearly written. We ended walking back to the train station to take a taxi and learned that it was only 500 meters away! That part was amusing to us and probably the to the taxi driver, too.
Review 113:We liked EVERYTHING about the A&O once we found it.
Review 114:All was well until the morning when there seemed to be too few staff, and no-one was around to sort out breakfast problems.
Review 115:Great location, welcome, organised, helpful staff. Staff helped with queries and listened to and acted on complaints. Great place to stay. thank you.
Review 116:Very small room: we got a family room for 2 people and it was already crowded. Very slow and unreliable wifi. Bed was not ok.
Review 117:Good parking slot, well located and clean. Shower separeted from toilet, each with it´s own sink.
Review 118:The wifi connection was very slow. The hotel is too noisy because of the trains.
Review 119:Very close from the train station and from the city center. Clean and comfortable. The prices per night are not so expensive.
Review 120:Close to the HBF means very noisy at night...... The dorm room is tiny, not enough space for putting the luggage.
Review 121:Good location very near to the HBF. Friendly staff.
Review 122:A big bed is composed by two merged matresses, it's not comfortable for only one person
Review 123:It's perfect for a stop if you are travelling or you need good transportation connections. The breakfast is fine and the room is clean and silent.
Review 124:Conveniently close to railway station, and bus stop, but also a comfortable walk to the main part of the town. Good restaurants close by. Staff at the hotel were exceptionally helpful and friendly.
Review 125:Low cost Equipment and organization, small rooms, design corresponding to a boarding school. Internet not working well during intense period of the day. Reduced service, only few personnal. Very simple furniture, hard chairs.
Review 126:Personnal with positive attitude. Very well located in Aachen. Clean.
Review 127:We had dark coloured room which seemed quiet depressing considering its small size for 5 people family.
Review 128:If you seaching for city centre hotel, is good value for money, in excellent location. Clean. Good wifi and all amenities around..
Review 129:Poor acoustic isolation from inside (neighbouring rooms, aisle) and outside (trains and traffic), despite double-glass windows. Reception personnel not very efficient at arrival, OK at departure.
Review 130:Very close to the train station. Low price for a double room with bathroom. Room clean and bed with comfortably (for us) hard mattress.
Review 131:They don't clean your room daily, they don't change the towels and they don't through the full rubish bag.
Review 132:Exellent location. The breakfast is also really good.
Review 133:The staff was great-friendly, helpful and ready to provide assistance. Great wi-fi reception and the room was well set up. Breakfast was very complete and had everything needed to start the day. A great place and best of all it is literally a few steps to the main train station in Aachen so you have access to wherever you need to go.
Review 134:we requested for car parking space in advanced but were told no space when we arrived. Luckily there was cheap all day parking by the motel across the road.
Review 135:location very close to the old town.
Review 136:Soundproofing poor - sounds of corridor and next room audible. Accommodation basic - limited space. Sold as an hotel at a hotel price, but essentially a hostel. Felt like a converted office block, and the dining room like a school refectory. The advert says, "It's not a hotel - it's a state of mind." No! It's just not an hotel.
Review 137:Clean
The Fine Print
