Reviews for Schwarzwaldgasthaus Goldener Engel
Review 1:The moment we walked in the door we where made very welcome, the room was ready & it was a very nice surprise to have such a nice room with a balcony. The location is in the centre so very easy to get around.
Review 2:the mosquito's
Review 3:The hotel is in a nice small village. There is not much to do but we didn't need that. It has a good bed and plenty of choices for breakfast. You can get free tickets to travel in the area with bus/train. I recommend to take the bus and train to the nice city of Freiburg am Breisgau.
Review 4:Church bell is very close and sleeping for late morning is hard unless if you travel around so it can be like a wake-up call. No English speakers.
Review 5:Location and stuff are friendly. Clean and beautiful rooms.
Review 6:Nothing at all!!
Review 7:This is family run and you feel like your family when you arrive. The staff were super sweet, although we didn't speak much German it was easy to figure out everything. It was an amazing place to stay with tons around to visit. Beautiful area of Germany.
Review 8:The hotel is right next to the church, whose bells still toll at 6am to wake up the villagers. There is no snooze button, but thankfully they desist after a couple of minutes and let you get back to sleep!
Review 9:The Goldener Engel is full of character, with its classic Black Forest apperance and incredibly warm and welcoming staff, all dressed in traditional costume. The rooms are impeccably clean and well-equipped and the breakfast buffet was a real feast of local produce. We dined on several occasions in the hotel restaurant, which wasn't cheap, but was well worth it, the staff taking pride in introducing us to a variety of Black Forest specialies (the "Mini-Menu" was a great way of doing this on the first night). The village of Glottertal is beautiful, bordered by vineyards (you must try the local wine!), and serves as a gateway to one of the Black Forest's most scenic valleys.
Review 10:Nothing!!
Review 11:A very lovely hotel in picturesque surroundings within a village setting. The hotel marries a Bavarian atmosphere of beautiful antiques with splendidly modern, comfortable rooms and a generous breakfast.
Review 12:One disadvantage was that the hotel kept "closed" on wednesdays, for instance the restaurant was closed this day and reception closed early. Not easy for us northerners to know in advance, but I guess this was normal in this region. All in all it wasn't a problem.
Review 13:We truly enjoyed this place. The staff was really helpful and friendly. The rooms were charming and had a homelike atmosphere. No doubts about recommending it to others!
Review 14:Friendly staff and good restaurant downstairs for dinner and breakfast. It was our third visit, we always enjoy our time there.

Review 27:Church bells waking us at early hours
Review 28:THe food, the location and the scenic paths to walk along near hotel.
Review 29:Expensive hotel. Wifi doesn't work. Not very clean.
Review 30:I absolutely LOVED this place! It was in a very authentic, quaint German town. It was the most precious bed and breakfast and the location was so relaxing and the perfect way to unwind after traveling. It truly felt like I was staying in a home.
Review 31:I liked everything about the hotel. Staff very helpful. Food was excellent. 5 minutes from the hotel I was walking in the hills (spectacular views especially at sunset)
Review 32:Nothing. Everything was goiod.
Review 33:Service and staff are first class. Isabelle, the owner leads by example. The breakfast was good and plentiful, the dinners were excellent. This friendly hotel is typical of the region and is a superb example of good hospitality and customer awareness. Well done to all.
Review 34:Nothing. We were only stopping overnight, but if we had stayed longer we would have requested a room nearer the back of the hotel as the road was a bit noisy.
Review 35:Very charming traditional hotel in a delightful village. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. Our room was beautiful and had a pleasant balcony for sitting outside in the evening. Beds were comfortable. Overall would recommend to anyone who wanted a village location and a traditional hotel. Food in the resaurant was particularly good.
Review 36:I was there on business so would have appreciated to find a computer. Nowifi and they didn't provide me a wire for my tablet neither. Alsono phone in the bedroom - so no awakening service possible. Not a bigdeal ! but it is just clear that the place is for a holidays stay :-)
Review 37:Typical Black Forest farm house. Inside the hotel the christmasdecorations (based on angels referring to the hotel's name) weregiving a real homy welcome. Even my little balcony was illuminated !Very nice traditional painted furniture and tiled furnaces to be back intime, but the nowadays comfort (heating, big bathrooms, plenty of hotwater, etc.) was perfect. Easy to find from the expressway, locatedcentral to the hamlet, so probably close to a bus stop (?) and lots ofother good restaurants around. Very nice view on the illuminated villagechurch. Very quiet nights though ! a barn with a few horses at the backand a hiking path starting right at your door... The entrance of thehotel is actually at the back but not a problem if you enter through therestaurant in front. The restaurant is the perfect complement to a staythere, with many local specialities and fresh season products to try(venaison, wild trout, apfelstrudel..)all copious and delicious. Threetables full of goodies for the breakfast buffet ! including a widechoice of cheeses and deli and breads of course, 3 different yoghurtsand homemade jams by example and a big fresh fruit salad ! The staff isfriendly and efficient. The ladies are wearing the nice traditional"dirndl" costume !
Review 38:Stairs to climb with suitcase. No WiFi connection, but a cable for LAN connection is supplied by the guesthouse personnel.
Review 39:Hospitality, friendly reception even when we made a late check-in. Good location to start trips in the black forest area. Good breakfast

Review 41:The rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel staff was friendly and very helpful. The selection at breakfast was very good and the food (dinner and lunch) was excellent. Well done to the family who runs the hotel and their staff. Highly recommended by us. We would like to go back one day!
Review 42:No elevator which was not a big problem for us but could be for theinfirm. The wifi did not work and the wired internet connnection was anold fashioned on I could not use. The inn is right on a busy road buthad very thick windows. Might ask for a room on the back.
Review 43:Good service and value. The room was good for the price with a goodshower. The dining room was excellent for breakfast although it wasclosed that night for dinner. Very cozy and good atmosphere. The peoplewere very friendly. Built in 1520 so very charming.
Review 44:The staff and service in general were the poorest we have ever experienced. Unfriendly hardly sums it up!!
