Reviews for The Dreamer Hostel

Review 1:The address on Booking.com is incorrect so the taxi got lost and took us to the wrong place. The hostel is not in a happening area per se, but at least it is near transportation routes and taxis...etc.

Review 2:The pool and kitchen and overall facilites are nice.

Review 3:The place is smaller than the wide-angle promo photos imply. The average client is in their early 20's and into partying, which is okay, but there's no room on the property to avoid the scene.

Review 4:Location was good for avoiding downtown Santa Marta traffic.

Review 5:Out of town so must get taxis or local buses in and out. Also ridiculous 5% card payment charge so bring lots of cash or expect paying more. I also specifically asked for the transaction to be charged in COP Pesos but the staff member changed to GBP£ which meant I received a much poorer rate charging 3.5% commission. I told her of this but she seemed not bothered that I was now going to be charged more.

Review 6:Great facilities with pool, free wifi, restaurant and bar on site. Great hostel to socialise with people and book day trips or trips for a few days to Tayrona, Lost City etc. They offer free luggage storage which is fantastic and all rooms are either air con, fan or both.

Review 7:Location out of town so need taxis to go to central Santa Marta, approx 6000 COP. Also the ridiculous 5% card charge. All drinks, meals etc go into a Tab and you pay at check out but 5% is too much and taking people's custom for granted. Given that card payments are becoming more common for travellers this needs to be reduced. I travelled around Colombia for 3 weeks and this is the only hostel I stayed at that charged for card transactions.

Review 8:Swimming pool, great value cooked breakfast and options to get lung/dinner. Bar area is very social and great to meet people, play pool. Rooms are fan or a/c or both. We stayed in Jamaica room and was fantastic value(double ensuite air-con and fan), great value for money. Close by to shopping centre, atms, Bolivar's house to explore.

Review 9:5% charge for credit cards...

Review 10:Very friendly and catered for all our needs coming and going to trekking lost city and tayrona. Shopping centre very near and had supermarket and cash machines

Review 11:The location is not very good because the street where the hostel is located is dark and lonely so sometimes is not nice to walk alone late. When me and my friends walked to the mall we didnt like it to much. The mall is very close though so it want that bad.

Review 12:The environment in general is great. The staff is very nice and the people are also very friendly. The bbq was really good and the different activities they do everyday are fun. The pool is big and clean, the food is good, the rooms were clean too. The staff helped us with everything we needed. I would like to go back and I can recommend it with no hesitation! The house is big and confortable and has everything you need!

Review 13:My World Top 5 hostel it is really hard to find any downsides

Review 14:Excelent stay!I have been traveling more than 20 years thus thought that nothing can suprise me,but this hostel is just supergood.

Review 15:Only thing I can say which isn't directly with the hostel but we booked it through the hostel, was the door to door service to Cartagena. We paid extra to get an air condition efficient service which didn't happen. The buss had no air condition for the 4hour trip and when we arrived it stopped in Cartagena for us to transfer to a smaller van that didn't have enough seats for the passengers, it then an hour to fix whilst we seat in 25degree heat in the van! But the hostel and staff were great just don't purchase the bus service.

Review 16:Staff were great and accommodating

Review 17:It's not the fanciest place and our bathroom wasn't the nicest, however we weren't expecting 5-star accommodations. I think we got what we paid for and we really had a fun time.

Review 18:Loved meeting all the travelers from across the world and hanging out at the awesome hostel. Really had a blast! Food was great!

Review 19:Nothing

Review 20:A little bit far from the centre but really convenient to do day trips like Tayrona, Minca, and Taganga. There is not much interest in staying in the centre anyway. The staff is extremely helpful and will always offer you another option aside from booking with the hostel. It has a great party atmosphere that is well balanced; we strongly recommend the Chivas bus party on Friday nights! They offer a free service to print boarding passes, for exemple. The cleaning is done on a regular basis many times a day, even late at night. The kitchen is clean, modern and well equipped. Wifi works well. We stayed in a private room with bathroom on the second floor, it was quiet enough and people respect the curfew. The pool and common areas are exceptional, with many long chairs and hammocks. Definitely a place where to stay, more than one night!

Review 21:On our last day we ordered lunch. my food came out first but my husbands never arrived. We found out the food was given to someone else. Could do with more lounge area. 5000cop taxi ride to town - not bad but worth a mention.

Review 22:Staff were nice and helpful. Organised activities for guest ie water polo / bbq. and also local tours. Nice vibe. Shopping centre / cinema walking distance

Review 23:way out of the centre of Santa Marta which is fine if you are using it to get to the attractions nearby (Tayrona, Minca, Palomino etc) but not if you want to be in the city centre

Review 24:very social and fun staff were very helpful and friendly - great with remembering everyones names and making you feel welcome modern facilities

Review 25:Beware of 5% surcharge if paying by credit card (for me, it's a cost of doing business for them; perhaps they could up the rates and offer a 5% discount for cash).

Review 26:Staff were great, really went out of their way to make you feel at home. Ended up staying in their sister hotel in Palomino also (which I liked even more). They were happy to book my next hostel for me. Very helpful.

Review 27:No hot water but that's to be expected in a small beach town. Not a big deal.

Review 28:Normally we don't stay at hostels but we were traveling with some friends that wanted to try this place. I'm glad we did. Staff is great, drinks and food were cheap. Had a blast.

Review 29:Nothing :)

Review 30:Great food, great atmosphere, comfy rooms. The best part about The Dreamer is its staff - nice, fun, and very helpful - I left my passport at a hostel in another city and the staff at The Dreamer went way out of their way to help me get it back. Thankfully I managed to get my passport back quickly and make it back to Bogota to catch my flight home. Would love to visit The Dreamer again one day!

Review 31:My room did not have a private television which some of the private rooms do offer.

Review 32:The staff is very friendly and helpfull. The hostel, the rooms and the nice swimming pool are very clean. They have a good kitchen were you can order during the day. The location is nearby a shopping center and with a taxi or bus a few minutes away from the center.

Review 33:nothing

Review 34:Staff were amazing very friendly, helpful and always joking. Stayed in a 6man dorm as well as a private room, both were clean and confortable. Awesome pool and reasonably priced food.

Review 35:You dont really feel like being in Colombia. All the staff except the cooking and cleaning staff is from abroad, some of them dont really speak Spanish. I personally prefer places with a more local touch.

Review 36:There was no wifi. Lots of noise at night coming from the streets. Bed was very hard. Only ceiling fan which was not enough for the heat. They charge more if you pay with creditcard.

Review 37:Service and food are just perfect

Review 38:Friendly, knowledgeable staff, the pool, good resto on site, lots of hammocks

Review 39:Not much to do in Santa Marta!

Review 40:Such a nice hostel with amazing pool and fun people

Review 41:The staff is really nice! Best hostel I have been in Colombia. I would also recommend the Dreamers hostel in Palomino.

Review 42:Wifi is weak

Review 43:Excellent staff and nice hostel

Review 44:Staff!

Review 45:Outside the center, you have to take a taxi to get to Santa Marta

Review 46:Nice people Clean room It is a bit of a party hotel, but not to noisy

Review 47:Wifi didn't reach room

Review 48:The staff were very nice great Italian restaurant good vibe

Review 49:Not Tv in room Not Hot water in bathroom WiFi in room Room service

Review 50:Staff The bar

Review 51:The receptionist were nice and helpful.

Review 52:The on site restaurant, pool and staff

Review 53:The dreamer is truly a great place to stay! the nicest staff I ever had in hostels, they are always a great a help when it comes to organize trips on the carribean coast and Minca (sierra nevede) the facilities totally met my expectations, clean rooms, good aircon, the pool was amazing and the bar a good meeting point for a interesting groups of travellers from all over the world. The perfect hub to explore the carribean coast in particular for the Tayrona park wich is very easy to access from there! Also their other hostel in Palomino was very good!!

Review 54:Buffet breakfast very nice too

Review 55:We stayed for 2 nights in a double ensuite room. The hostel was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed--- pool, restaurant, bar, lounge areas, laundry service good wifi and travel information. The location was excellent; nice residential area, close to shopping mall, supermarket, ATM and bus stops to Tayrona and some nice beach.

Review 56:This is a party hostel, so good for those who enjoy music til midnight and enjoy second hand smoke while in the kitchen or in the pool.

Review 57:This hostel is closed to the bus station so convenient from that perspective.

Review 58:I had a private room for two people though I were alone and it was not cheap: in the room there was nothing to hang my clothes, I had to keep everything into my laggage

Review 59:Good organization, a lot of information about sightseing and tours, lively site and staff is nice and helpfull There is a reztaurant and foof is good and cheap. Same for the bar

Review 60:I really enjoyed the Dreamer in Santa Marta. The staff was awesome and extremely helpful. Nice facilities and a lively atmosphere. The hostel is in close proximity to Parque Tayrona (a short 1 hour bus ride away). If you are in Santa Marta, this is the place to be!

Review 61:A little out from Santa Marta Central but amazing location for buses to nearby sights

Review 62:Such a lovely atmosphere with great staff & friendly backpackers - the type of place you hang around the hostel.

Review 63:I love the setting of the hostel. All rooms around a garden with a pool, a lounge area and a bar. I also love the food as the owner is Italian and his cooks really know their stuff. Especially try the fish. I can't say enough about this hostel. I was supposed to say only two nights I ended up staying four. Didn't want to leave.

Review 64:Amazing staff, really caring of the guests... they even remember every name!! They also have pretty good recommendations for those without a defined plan! :) muchas gracias chicos!! Perfect location to go to Tayrona o Ciudad perdida

Review 65:Shower/bathroom facilities could be better, no warm water, far from city centre

Review 66:Great staff, very nice and clean pool, pool table, good bar with OK-prices, laundry service, free luggage storage, a lot of tours are offered, mall very close

Review 67:Not much activities at night (apart from the Chiva bus) which I thought was a shame. Have to ask for towel they don't systematically give it to you.

Review 68:Most of the staff are friendly and do help you. Solid internet with the amount of people who uses it on a daily basis. The restaurant is open for breakfast and till 10pm for dinner.

Review 69:girls toilets not very clean, when it´s raining there is no common area (since the roof of the bar leaks)

Review 70:pool area, good food in the restaurant (although nothing local available), air con

Review 71:Can't bring in alcohol, drinks and dinner are expensive. Breakfast is good value though. Nowhere to hang wet stuff or do your own wash.

Review 72:Very friendly and helpful staff, very clean, ensuite bathrooms in a lot of the dorms, powerful fans for dorms without A/C. 5 min to huge mall and cinema, busses to other places like Tayrona. Very clean pool.

Review 73:The stuff was nice, but the internet didn't work for 3 days and the pool was under construction. For the old town of Santa Marta, it's too far away (5.000 Pesos with a cap).

Review 74:Nice atmosphere, stuff explained a lot, delicious breakfast (u have to pay extra).

Review 75:My wife and I had to sleep in separate beds for two nights! But it was ok, the place is always full, maybe because it holds up to its fame.

Review 76:What we liked the most was the staff, but mainly this guy Diego Contreras (the taller Diego). He was very helpful all the time and he made us feel like we were home. Just a great guy! And the place has a nice pool, a nice bar, and it's a good hub for you to go to the most interesting places around Santa Marta.

Review 77:Can't think of anything!

Review 78:What a truly wonderful place to stay at! The staff are all so incrediblyhelpful and the set-up of the place is unique for Santa Marta. We´vevisited other hostels and can say that the atmosphere is the best in TheDreamer. A perfect mix of fun and laid-back relaxing. The manager evensupported us because we were volunteering in Santa Marta. A man withvery good ethics, who is concerned about the surrounding communityaswell. The Dreamer was our home for almost two weeks. Very very veryrecommended!!

Review 79:the "scene", loud music playing continuosly and guest smoking everywhere. Except for leaving the hostel and cooking, I mostly stayed in my room.

Review 80:The location is good, near a nice mall. having a kitchen was good. I stayed in a private room with private bath and I thought it was nice, but a bit expensive. The staff were very helpful. Luggage storage is good too.

Review 81:Staff were brilliant. Good location for trips to minka
