Reviews for Fairmont Royal York Hotel

Review 1:Absolutely nothing.

Review 2:We stayed at the Fairmont Gold....worth the extra for total luxury.100% commitment from all the staff to make your visit a memorable experience.5*+

Review 3:check in line. noise in the room. poor response from staff. awful breakfast at Epic restaurent/ i called to complain twice in the next few days and left a massage for Collin, dir. of guest services. never called me back. waste of money. you wont see us again, not that you care. i dont treat my patients in this rude and disrespectful manner

Review 4:From the minute we checked in we were greeted with warm smiles. The property is immaculate, room was spotless and the location is as convenient as ever.

Review 5:See above. Also extremely noisy between 3 and 4 am.

Review 6:Very small room for money. Stayed at Queen Elizabeth last wknd. In Montreal for half the price. Park ing very pricey and ability to enter hotel a nightmare

Review 7:There was no thermostat in my room. I was up all night ordering extra blankets and trying to have someone from the mechanic staff in my room warmer. It never happened. I will never stay there again and will warn others about the archaic nature of climate control there.

Review 8:Beautiful peppery and kind staff.

Review 9:There was only one robe in the closet when there were obviously two guests we stayed two nights at 8 am the first morning the cleaning staff knocked on the door and we said it was too early but they failed to come back later in the day to make the bed We were charged wifi at a cost of over $15 we did not request it as we were offered a no fee connection and to make it worse we couldn't get a connection on the morning of checking out. We felt this was an unreasonable addition to our bill.

Review 10:Beautiful hotel my husband lost his wallet while we're there but it was returned within two days The room was beautifully appointed and I was surprised how quiet it was we would definitely return

Review 11:Looking forward to a relaxing long weekend in Toronto. First night kept awake by the sound of roadworks until 3am. Second night moved to a better room away from roadworks - thank you hotel. Third night kept awake until 3am by noisy drunk people having a party a few doors down - not the hotel's fault, but perhaps quicker response to drunk and noisy guests is needed.

Review 12:Location was good across the road from the Union Railway Station. Hotel is iconic and well maintained. Refurbished rooms are nice and beds very comfortable.

Review 13:There are sensors in the mini fridge. You cannot take out the items and put your own items in.

Review 14:We had a lovely bell boy, Scott. He was from Australia and was very nice and friendly. Made our trip. We took the upgrade to the latest renovated room and it was lovely. Very comfortable. Worth the extra although we did not see the room previously.

Review 15:Our room didn't get ready till 1hour and forty minutes passed the check in time, despite asking for possibility of early check in in our reservation . The very high price for wifi access.

Review 16:The hotel's location is fantastic. The newly renovated rooms are really beautiful and comfortable. The hotel's restaurant and bars have brilliant food and drinks and fab afternoon tea. The hotel was really clean.

Review 17:Too many children in pool area, who can be very loud while their parents ignore them.

Review 18:Professional and extremely helpful stuff, amazing decorations, clean and cozy room, great spa area. We had CN tower view which was unforgettable experience.

Review 19:Room was small and cramped. Bed didn't have comforter or duvet and when a duvet was requested what was delivered was like an old flight blanket. In the end cranked the heat.

Review 20:Location and proximity to amenities is great. Fit and finish of the rooms are also awesome. Food was brilliant. Internet works as expected.

Review 21:They "upgraded" us to a recently renovated room. But since renovations are still underway, the windows were covered and and couldn't see out of them.

Review 22:Waiters on occasion intrusive during meeting but attentive and prompt service and good food

Review 23:Quiet, great location, restaurant facilities available at lunch for business meeting

Review 24:The couple in the next room made a great deal of noise from 1:30 am to 3:30 am. It woke us out of a sound sleep. We initially thought the woman was being beaten but then realized they were enjoying their activity. It ruined our experience and our sleep. We were too embarrassed to call the desk but felt compromised by the experience.

Review 25:As an person with a sensitivity to scented products I found the scent that was being used at the hotel could be felt everywhere. This was very difficult for someone such as me or anyone else with this disability. That being said, I would not hesitate to stay at the hotel in the future as I have always done in the past.

Review 26:Noisy heavy doors on rooms

Review 27:Perfect location if travelling in to pearsson airport .. Get the UP express to Union Street station and cross into the hotel!

Review 28:The hotel, its staff, and their approach to the essentials of making their customers welcome and relaxed is quite remarkable and seldom happend upon in major cities. Added to the location of this hotel and its unique history makes for a wonderful stay.

Review 29:No complaints!!!

Review 30:Great stay! We were going to a hockey game and a basketball game and the location was perfect. Also visited the Hockey Hall of Fame and the Aquarium...all within walking distance.

Review 31:7-181 was next to 7th floor housekeeping closet and the ice machine; both were way too loud. Housekeeping had the door open as they talked and organized carts for the day. And glasses restocking was very noisy. Save 181 tier for when you're sold out.

Review 32:love the remodel of hallways and sleeping room; so pretty and soothing. Wonderful, friendly staff -- bellmen, front desk, concierge, housekeeping in particular, Epic Lounge.

Review 33:The room was cold, and the thermostat was not functioning, there was no ventilation in the bathroom, so it was impossible to ready myself, since it was steamed up from the shower. Unfortunately our meal in the library room was dissappointing, the cheff seamed to have a problem with oversalting evetything. Will definately not reccomend it .

Review 34:The location and the overall ambienceof the hotel was very enjoyable.Staff were friendly, and helpfull.

Review 35:Had a bad experience with food but restaurant manager took care of it promptly and correctly.

Review 36:Convince to Toronto union station. We traveled via rail from Toronto to Vancouver.

Review 37:On arrival the receptionist told me that I was not recognized in the system as a presidents club member! She wasn't very polite at all. The toilet in my room 10156 occasionally made an extremely loud gushing noise which sounded very strange. They sent a maintenance man and he told me the toilet was new, checked the tank and gave me a strange look.

Review 38:Good conference facility

Review 39:Room was tiny.. This is not New York! Minibar "cannot be used for personal items".. I can't keep my yogurt cold? After requesting a quiet room, checkin staff put me right across from the construction.. Had to change rooms. For the price, I would expect cotton, not polyester sheets. Extremely overpriced at $300 and would not book again.

Review 40:Right across from the train station, which is why I conveniently booked here..

Review 41:Can't think of anything.....

Review 42:great location, amazing service, great tea service, wonderful food! Can't wait to go back!!! It may be my favorite hotel in the world.

Review 43:The room was small and I felt both the room and restaurant was very over priced for what was offered . I have stayed at the delta and the holiday inn both in the same area and feel the dollar value is far superior .

Review 44:Staff was very helpful and pleasant t

Review 45:Room was very small and the bed even smaller. Attempted to update from Queen bed to king without success.

Review 46:The staff were helpful when i attempted to upgrade my room. Unfortunately they had no vacancies at the time.

Review 47:I have nothing negative to say.

Review 48:The Staff at the RY are amazing and extremely helpful and welcoming. My room was a Luxury King and it was beautiful. There is always enough towels etc in the room. I had an experience to stay at the King Edward recently only to be totally disappointed and moved to the RY,

Review 49:That kind of place where they know what they do and they do it fast from the second you get in to the moment you leave. No mistakes, no need to repeat or ask for something as All was exactly as reserved and prepared with précision . Will go back

Review 50:Room was spacious but looked tired. Painted trim was lumpy, windows sported mismatched sheer curtains, hunk of green painting tape left on one wall near the ceiling - just the small details that were overlooked which added to the overall tired look.

Review 51:The lobby

Review 52:Noisy rooms. On multiple nights other guests were loud, either yelling or playing loud music until 1:30-2:00am. I contacted the front desk and security never came.

Review 53:It is an elegant looking hotel. We stayed in the Fairmont Gold 12th Floor, so we had access to the Gold Lounge, so we had free drinks and hors d'oeuvres which was great.

Review 54:Disappointed we couldnt see view from window because of construction.

Review 55:It was a beautiful hotel. Exceptionally clean. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious.

Review 56:A very welcoming and helpful staff. Top-notch, as it should be for a hotel of this caliber. A class act all the way. Perfect location, right across the street from train station (which is how we arrived).

Review 57:We were downgraded upon arrival with no explanation, and we were placed in a Queen room (having booked a King) that was incredibly outdated and had poor bathrooms. We were also placed next to the noisy service elevator, which ran all night. I think it's ridiculous that a hotel this expensive doesn't offer any amenities whatsoever, no even wifi.

Review 58:Beautiful lobby, and the newly-renovated King rooms are very nice, with comfy beds and nice bathrooms.

Review 59:Room great except closet so shallow could barely use it to hang clothes, and no space to reduce clutter in room

Review 60:Lovely old building. Great service. Great location

Review 61:My partner commented on having difficulty navigating the menu of the television.

Review 62:I was delighted with the opulent feel of the hotel. I enjoyed the opportunity to leave my bags at the bag check and explore the city, until I was ready to return. I loved having a robe for my use, this definitely reduced my packing and provided a wonderful comfort.

Review 63:Shower temperature fluctuated hot to cold at least 3 times in a ten minute shower.

Review 64:Great location, beautiful lobby, very good accessibility, lovely bath products.

Review 65:The room was very small and over-furnished. In addition, I had a terrible meal from room service. Finally, I was incorrectly charged for a movie that I didn't order.

Review 66:The location was great, as was the bed. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 67:Was first put in an old room . very noisy air con .upgraded to a newly renovated room .that was lovely

Review 68:We had a family emergency and I had to have some of my family stay with me. They staff were v understanding and accommodating .

Review 69:King luxury room was pretty small especially the bathroom. Parking is $50 EXTRA and must pay to use WiFi. Can't put anything in the mini fridge to keep cold as it is full and you will get charged for items taken out longer than 30 seconds

Review 70:Location is great, right across from Union station and closer to rogers center. Clean and updated room with nice furniture and comfy bed.

Review 71:3 days of a heat alert meant an already pretty old useless air condition system was bound to fail. So uncomfortable to sleep in we barely slept at all. The only options were cool and hot and a fan setting low med high on a Honeywell system older than myself . For a hotel as expensive and claimed as luxury this was really dissapointing .

Review 72:Staff were great . Beautiful building and clean rooms . Fast valet . Fast check in. Easy to request laundry service very quick.

Review 73:Paying for internet, expensive on top of room, etc. Only thing that distracted from overall experience.

Review 74:The staff are amazing. Friendly, competent. Good is good, great specialty drinks in the restaurant. Was in one of the renovated rooms, very nice. Nice pool and fitness facilities.

Review 75:Called the bell to collect my bags 15 minutes before checkout. While checking out, reminded the staff and she called them again. When the bags did not come 20 minutes after 1st call, I had to go back to my room and get them myself as my pick up was waiting.

Review 76:Wifi setup was free in the lobby but paid in the room - it made organising my trip awkward - just make the wifi free in the room

Review 77:Clean and very comfortable. Very convenient for my needs. The staff were very friendly

Review 78:Prices a little high fir food and drink.

Review 79:Great hotel, well located. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff who went out of their way to help. Would love to stay there again.

Review 80:Our check in was 2 hours late, didnt check in until 5:00. Also they didnt have my correct last name in the system, so for a while they said i didnt have a room. they had my middle name as my last name which made no sense.

Review 81:Room was small, with view of nothing but a wall, and mine happened to be next to the elevators. Sounded like an airport in the next room, I could only sleep a couple hours even with ear plugs. Unbelievably, had to pay extra for wifi; Only free in lobby. This is 2015! Front desk staff asking too many personal questions, like where have I been, why am I here, etc. I don't need a new friend, I just wanted a room. You can't use mini-fridge, cuz if you move things they automatically charge you even if you don't open anything! They offered to wheel in another fridge for $20. That seems a bit much for just wanting to keep my banana fresh. I've stayed in many 4 & 5 star hotels around the world, been to 46 countries; this is one of the most disappointing.

Review 82:Nice atmosphere in lobby, beautiful paintings/ art. Heritage hotel. Great location next to Union station and downtown. Nice gesture: after I mentioned I couldn't sleep, they discounted $50 from my room price, for putting me next to incredibly loud elevators.

Review 83:Reception staff were amazing. Hotel was so beautiful. Rooms were well equipped and soft fluffy robes were very comfortable. Fantastic location right across from Union Station and five mins from CN Tower. Perfect!

Review 84:Nothing loved it all

Review 85:Staff very helpful right across the board, location fantastic room was huge with separate sitting area would highly recommend and would stay again thank you

Review 86:This hotel was perfectly located and within walking distance to the Hockey Hall of Fame, Rogers Center, and the CN Tower! The parking onsite is very expensive but there is public parking available right around the corner. We left our car there for 3 nights and it only cost us $60. The hotel staff was extremely helpful and very friendly. The bed was amazing! Pool and hot tub were very nice! Wifi is only free in the lobby which was a negative to us and the restaurants were very expensive, however there is a Tim Hortons on every block so it's only a short walk for morning coffee. We would definitely stay there again!

Review 87:We had intoxicated people banging on our door late at night screaming to let them in. Very disturbing did not sleep very well at all the second night. Not only did they disturb us but everyone down the hall. Where was the security to stop this?

Review 88:Very close to all tourist attractions! Beautiful building and nice employees.

Review 89:Paid wifi. Come on. Every cafe has free wifi. Hell, there are parks here in Montreal with free wifi. Tim Hortons has free wifi. Essentially, charging like $15-17 for access to wifi is, well, ridiculous. Also, it may help to be a bit more clear on promotional materials about reservations at the various restaurants within the hotel. I naively assumed a day or two in advance for making reservation for tea would be okay. Not even a chance. So I missed out on that. If the website was a bit clearer on the need to reserve in advance, I would have done so.

Review 90:The hotel is gorgeous, the staff professional and courteous. Didn't matter who I was, they treated me like I was a million dollars. Definitely will be sure to book other stays at the various Fairmont hotels.

Review 91:The room was not as nice as some of the other Gold Floor rooms I have stayed in. Was I given a lesser room because I booked it through Booking.com? The iPod dock did not work and there was what looked like a leak past or present in the ceiling

Review 92:Location and some of the staff on the Gold Floor offer excellent customer service !

Review 93:paying for wi fi and the fitness centre, should be included in rate. No safe in the room which you get at much cheaper places. Expensive valet parking.

Review 94:Very traditional old fashioned type hotel with a vintage feel.

Review 95:It is very annoing to pay fir the parking an extra $53/day. The barhroom are extremely small(it is a characteristic of all the Fairmont suites I've been so far. The bad is called king , but it is closer to my queen size bed from home

Review 96:When we got there to check in we had to wait over an hour to get our room because it wasn't ready yet. If you wanted to use wifi you had to pay 15 dollars, I have paid way less for hotels and the wifi was included.

Review 97:Perfect location.

Review 98:Absolutely nothing ... leaving.

Review 99:The level of service was amazing from the front desk to the made service, concierge, our waiter in the Library, and the valet parking attendants.

Review 100:Got there for our wedding night only for them to telus they didn't have our reservations (which was booked weeks in advance). Took 20 minutes to for them to finally find it while my bride had to stand and wait ion her sore feet, gave us a double bed room...for my wife and I to sleep separately?? Didn't even compliment breakfast or a bottled water

Review 101:Meh. Nothing grand to warrant $235 for one night

Review 102:Restaurant a little too pricey. Used to have a more reasonable option in a restaurant on Avenues level and disappointed that is gone. Some of the beautiful rooms need a little TLC (paint peeling, nicks in furniture.)

Review 103:Excellent staff and gorgeous lobby.

Review 104:Wifi is accessible in the lobby, but you have to pay for it in your room.

Review 105:Great central location. Walking distance to CN Tower, short cab ride to the ROM/Yorkville.

Review 106:Wifi should be free! Every room should have a safe! Entertainment system should have movies free on selection - speak to the Pullman Hotel chain if you do not understand, as they have a great entertainment system by selection, free wifi and valuables safe in room. Lovely old hotel but really not up to standard.

Review 107:Pretty hotel, nice location

Review 108:Somebody yelling during night. Find idiots everywhere you go.

Review 109:Location , location location. Close to everything. Friendly staff. Always a smile on their face.

Review 110:Room service took forever!!! We were waiting for some milk and cookiesand half the kids were asleep before they were delivered.

Review 111:You can't beat the location. We came from Montreal by train so itwas easy to check in and out and go directly to the station. Very easywalk to the cn Tower and Aquarium. The staff was great very friendly. Weeven got a photobomb with the bellman! The rooms were nice but small since it is a historic property.

Review 112:The fire alarm that had us stranded with our luggage, as we had just checked out of our room. We had also booked a room for our son and he was not impressed with the old and musty smell in his room.

Review 113:The location is great, the lobby, entrance is grand.

Review 114:We arrived around 6:15 to our hotel. There was a problem with my visa.My mom called and we used hers for the stay. They could not take herpayment over the phone for some reason. They needed to email her a formto fill out. She filled it out and they gave us trouble for 2 hours!!We finally got to our room around 8:45. 2 and a half hours afterarrival!! We couldn't even nap before our 10:00 show after a longday of driving.

Review 115:The Royal York lives on its image and location - both of which are excellent. However, the rooms are crying to be refreshed and modernized. Although we had a suite, the bathroom was smaller than that of a 2 star or Holiday Inn Express, and was lacking in many respect against expectations for this type of hotel/price range. And I was not happy with the ~$40 add on "DMP fee" (Destination Marketing Program), a voluntary program which is added without customer consent, without any explanation nor benefits to the customer. Is the Royal York becoming a tourist trap?

Review 116:The staff was very profesionnal and well trained. BeniHana restaurant in the basement is always a popular showstaurant - but the food was equally tasteful. Location of course is excellent...but is it enough to justify the ticket price? Not sure.

Review 117:I didn't like that after I paid almost 1000 dollars to stay there for the weekend they wanted to charge me to use their wifi.

Review 118:The hotel is really nice as a whole

Review 119:As in many other hotels, room should have free wifi. Should have slippers as other hotels AC shouldn't cut out at night. No bottled water even for making coffee, tea.

Review 120:Easy checkout process. Security. Staff pleasant.

Review 121:I know the rooms are being updated but we stayed in a room that was as old as the hotel!

Review 122:Have always wanted to stay at the Royal York, location, history etc

Review 123:Paid wifi in a hotel of this caliber seems a blatant attempt for profit. Wifi is free almost everywhere Not clear what acces in the room was paid service. Wine on the tae at cost or a gift of welcome?

Review 124:Nice room comfortable bed

Review 125:I was very impressed with the professionalism of the staff. they all appeared to enjoy their work, sometimes the "fake" pat expressions you hear from staff can be so annoying - this was not the case I did not feel any conversation was forced or empty. 20 out of 10 overall.

Review 126:Stairs do not allow for rolling up or down luggage - very inconvenient; construction everywhere - no access to hotel by car, only by taxi; valet parking 15 minutes from hotel. No mention about renovation and valet parking until one day before check-in(by e-mail).

Review 127:The room was nice and quite and hotel provided sofa-bed for our quest. Great location - easy access to convention center, Union Station and restaurants.

Review 128:nothing

Review 129:Loved the location - it was within walking distance of everywhere we wanted to go. Also loved the valet parking - drop the car off and no worries.

Review 130:1. The av units are turning off in the middle of the night. Disturbing our sleep. 2. The bathroom is has no space to put anything

Review 131:Good staff, very helpful

Review 132:Inconsistent ungracious wifi policy: Hotel staff assured other couple we were traveling with that (high) wifi cost would not appear on their bill, and encouraged them to opt for it. It appeared on ours. Breakfast options, which pushed for $33 buffet, were another case of penny-wise, pound-foolish pricing. (Other couple's room never serviced.)

Review 133:Location

Review 134:The wifi wasn't included in the rental of the room.

Review 135:It was our honeymoon. We were taken care of so well by the staff. Jane at the front desk went above and beyond to make us as comfortable as possible. The luggage man at the front was so friendly and helpful. Watching our bags for the day as we went around the city
