Reviews for La Casona de Tortuguero
Review 1:The breakfast needs to be ordered a day in advanced and I only missed a chair or cloth hanger on my room. I can recommend this place!
Review 2:The centre is small so everything is close by. Hotel is located at a soccer field, very quiet, you hear the birds all the time. Room was good and very clean, soap etc provided. Helpful staff. Good tours.
Review 3:There i no restaurant at the hotel but next door and you can use the kitchen
Review 4:Helpful people at the reception, get any info that i want. Had a nice room with balcony, they have a nice garden.
Review 5:The room was really dirty: a sock was hanging on the curtain-rod, there were a plastic bottle and tissue under the bed, mold in the bathroom...
Review 6:The hotel is really well situated, in the village so you can do everything on foot.
Review 7:Wifi was not good, the guy picking us up from the boat terminal was quite pushy in selling us his tours.
Review 8:Central Location, nice little cabinas located in a green garden, 1 min walk to the beach, 2 min to 'main street'. While feeling sick the manager served us tee for free.
Review 9:not the best if you don't speak Spanish, breakfast was very uninspired, toilet did not flush well
Review 10:wifi worked fine, location is good, room looked nice
Review 11:You wake up with the sound of the fauna. The little floral patio gives a nice atmosphere in front of the rooms. The breakfast on wooden tables is so romantic.
Review 12:Very weak breakfast - dried bread with butter Lack of activities when it's raining (happening a lot in Tortuguero!)
Review 13:Good location, nice comfortable room
Review 14:Great and very helpful, phoned several times our guide if the Tour would take place although it was raining Location very central- but quiet. 2 minutes to the principal road
Review 15:??? We couldn't stay longer! 3 nights were wonderful note: do not leave ANY, I mean any unwrapped food out in your room, you are sure to have hundreds of tiny little ants capitalizing on your folly. This all acknowledged by one semi melted candy in its wrapper exposed to air in a bag... amazing little creatures. Make sure you eat outside your room, or only store food in air tight containers.
Review 16:Jenny and her staff were great at communicating options of food and out door adventure of Tortugeuro. Jenny is a humble business woman, who has called this area her home for many years, and has built this quaint and cozy hostel from the ground up, welcomes you to hostel as if you were her guest in her home. The love of flora and fauna is apparent with wonderful variety of flowering plants and layout out, it is sure to help you decompress, while swinging in a hammock, or eating one of her delicious banana pancakes for breakfast. Always had hot water, except when we didn't have water at all, just for a short while, as one day mother nature took other and gave us heavy tropical showers for the day, that would have messed up any modern system of control! This was a great, safe, cozy space, that allowed simple living and a good nights sleep. When in Tortugeuro, value for money, I happily give my colons$ to stay right here, again.
Review 17:fruit salad and pancake with banana as breakfast Great tips about the tours which you can book in the hotel for the same price 50 meters from the beach
Review 18:We went to tortuguero on november 2nd and it was the last day of the turtle end season carnaval. The place is just NeXT to the dance school were was the disco night. We almost did not sleep because of the noise.
Review 19:Nice staff very helpfull. We took a boat to moin and the lady owner came in the morning with us to the departure point just to make sure that everything was ok. Healthy breakfast with fresh fruits.
Review 20:La Casona is a simple place to stay, its not a 5star hotel so if you are the kind of traveler that likes to be in luxury this is not the place :) but remember, you are in Costa Rica and specialy in Tortuguero, so there will be wild life! take that always in consideration before! that said......La Casona was Perfect!!! great quality/price!!
Review 21:La Casona was a great place to stay!!! they came to pick us up at the dock, explained everything aboug Tortuguero, and Roberto, one of our guides even went with us for a walk to see baby turtles!!! great breakfast and great owner! super nice!!! the internet worked :)
Review 22:Nothing
Review 23:The family that run La Casona are lovely, going out of their way to help at any opportunity, helping out with tours etc. Breakfast is pretty small and basic but always nice. Rooms are also basic but comfortable, with a fan provided. Common area with hammocks is a really cool place to chill out. Tortuguero isnt big at all so everything is pretty close and the beach is just 50 metres away. That said, it is set away from the bars etc near where the boats dock, so you´ll always get a good nights sleep. Would stay here again if in Tortuguero.
Review 24:We shared the room with the one or the other cockroach and flying bug ...
Review 25:La Casona is a great place to stay while in Tortuguero. It is located very close to the beach and particularly the food in its own restaurant is great! The staff is very friendly and the turtle tour with Andres was a real highlight of our trip!
Review 26:Friendly and helpfull staff. Simple but tasty meals in the restaurant. Can't beat the price/quality ratio in the tourist place Tortuguero. One minut walk from the central boat dock.
Review 27:- the room was a complete disaster... Supersmall and filthy... Filled with small termite which we complained about after 1 night, but the owner told us she couldn't help it. They woud clean it, but they never did. - we booked a Turtle tour at la casona as well, the guide wasn't very nice, we were together with 2 spanish people, she kept on nagging about the fact that she also had to speak English and she appeared to not be very enthousiastic. The tour is supposed to be following lots of rules to protect the turtles... Which we support of course. After 1,5h it looked like we all weren't going to see one. But one appeared anyway... Because our time was almost out... All rules seemed to be forgotten (complaint about whole organization... Not just our guide) and everybody (approx. 60 people) stormed to the turtle, she got scared of course and quickly left without laying eggs. It made us feel bad to intrude nature like this. -breakfast was a joke...only dry toast with fruit and bad coffee while costa ricans make a great breakfast everywhere.
Review 28:- employees are very nice, cooperative and polite - cano tour was great, our guide Johanni (don't know how to spell his name) was a super guide, patient and he knows a lot about all the animals and plants. He also speaks good English. - location
Review 29:Staff lost reservation for 2 rooms. Manager was out. Ended up with four adults in one small room for first night. They provided a full, instead of continental, breakfast the next day. Manager apologized by email that mistake was hers. Would list the cold showers but they actually felt good in the heat and humidity. Each room came with a gecko which was fine but the bugs not so much. Stay busy with activities like we did so you don't have to spend a lot of time in your room. It worked out fine in the end.
Review 30:Breakfast was good. Location was convenient. Everything is relative in Tortuguero. The whole town is dirty when not muddy. A little gravel on the path from the lobby to the rooms would save guests and staff a lot of dirt in the rooms. Very rustic but the whole town is and I don't really know if you could do much better for the price.
Review 31:The room and the bed was okay. THe bathroom was a bit smelly and the water not always hot. The wifi acts up a bit but good for Tortuguero.
Review 32:Sara, the host, is very kind and will do everything to accommodate you and make your stay a great one. Have way between the beach and the docks, the hotel, in a nice setting, is well located to get around.
Review 33:Nichts
Review 34:Alles
Review 35:No wifi in the rooms, just in the common area
Review 36:Location of the hostel, the place, hot water in the bathroom and the breakfast!
Review 37:Rooms could have been a bit cleaner.
Review 38:Location and staff were excellent.
Review 39:No WiFi in the rooms
Review 40:Very welcoming and friendly staff, good atmosphere and loved the hammocks, breakfast comparably good
Review 41:It was very quiet at the complex
Review 42:The towels were not changed and the beds were not made.
Review 43:Location
Review 44:The wifi didn't work and there're another "cabinas" cheaper and in a better place.
Review 45:Close to the beach, staff very friendly. Equipment of kitchen very well. Breakfast was included. Sara gives some good tour advices.
Review 46:Room had a strong smell of mold, mattress had a bad smell, room wasn't very clean
Review 47:Friendly staff, hummocks, fresh fruit for breakfast
Review 48:Lovely helpful staff, nice cabins, good food!
Review 49:Nice location, Sara and her family were really friendly and helpful. The tours booked for us with Israel and Andre were fabulous!
Review 50:Included breakfast would have been a nice touch (for a few bucks extra would have been fine too). No wifi in the room, which would be nice when it poors rain for hours on end.
Review 51:Nicely decorated room and bathroom. Good price and location and friendly staff.
Review 52:Not the best value, wifi was poor as was the breakfast, not much to do in Tortuguero once you have done a boat trip and the short 2km walk..... out of 70,000 hectares!
Review 53:Good location, clean and comfortable
Review 54:This hotel offers simple, but nice double rooms with private bathrooms, as well as an onsite restaurant. The rooms are very clean and come with a proper ventilator (not aircon) and all you need. The moskito nets seal perfectly. The location is just about 150 meters from the boat arrival/departure point, so only short walk. The staff is very nice and even it was not part of our booking, they offered us free breakfast. In Tortuguero definitely one of the best places to stay for a mid budget. The restaurant is nice and surounded by a nicely maintained garden area. The hotel is very safe. Definitely recommendable!!
Review 55:We felt very welcome and comfortable. The location and the staff was very nice. We only stayed for a night, but we would definately come back. With best regards from Germany :-)
Review 56:No air conditioning - it gets very hot in the rooms. Extremely noisy if you stay below someone else.
Review 57:Good location - near the seaside and the center of the town. Friendly owner - Andres.
Review 58:The breakfast was poor. You just got a plate of sliced fruit, coffee, and toast with jam, which attracted a lot of flies so you couldn't really eat.
Review 59:These jungle-like cabins are situated in a perfect location between the beach, opposite the football field, and 20metres from the centre of town, the national park and the river. The cabins were comfortable, clean and very good value for money. It is also situated right next door to Miriam's who cooks up amazing Caribbean style food!
Review 60:Our ceiling fan was noicy
Review 61:We stayed here for 2 nights. What a wonderful place. Staff was super nice. Clean rooms nice showers. Very quiet area. Owner could help us out with information about the tours.
Review 62:Hard to get rid of mosquitos, so bring repellant and cover up.
Review 63:Very friendly and helpful staff. They let us have the entire second floor. They recommend Castor for canoe tours, which we did and lived. He seems to be the best in the area, very knowledgeable.
Review 64:No fridge in the room.
Review 65:Sara and Andres are great hosts. Andres is a great guide too. He can learn you anything about tortuguero. Food menu of the place is ok and not too expensive. Location is near beach, shops and restaurants. Rooms are very basic. Dont expect 5 star equipment.
Review 66:Bad mouldy smell in the bathroom.
Review 67:Staff was very friendly and helpful. We could use their own fridge and kitchen.
Review 68:Very friendly and helpfull staff - very clean room
Review 69:Great location, friendly staff, breakfast. The hotel offers excellent tours with a great guide!
Review 70:The staff was awesome- very friendly and helpful. The hotel restaurant was very good along with the complementary breakfast we got.
