Reviews for Cabinas Icaco Tortuguero
Review 1:The accomodation is a good value for money, however the breakfast that is available to order apart is way overpriced for the place and what it offers. As well the drinks that you can order during the day (coffee, juice) are expensive for what you get.
Review 2:Super clean rooms. The little village itself is very dirty and there is trash and mess in the streets and between the houses where locals live - so its a relieve that the hostal is nicely located by the beach and a bit apart from the main center, but still very closed to it and few steps to the park. The laundry service very fast and well done.
Review 3:Two out of three beds in our room were really terrible. Fans where super noisy. The hotel only accept payment in cash.
Review 4:Good location. Nice Caribbean colours and vibe. Also nice with seeting outside rooms. Fairly well cleaned.
Review 5:An absolute bummer was the bathroom. Super tiny. I am 6,1 and I could hardly move. Could not close the door while on the toilet. With my girlfriend in the room and an open space towards the reception this was not very private as you can imagine. Beds and shower could be cleaner.
Review 6:Friendly staff. Made us traditional CR breakfast upon request (was not on the menu). Great location right on the beach. Hammocks to chill in the entrance area.
Review 7:Minuscule rooms, dodgy electrics on the shower, hot as the hobs of hell rooms, order breakfast the night before...I could go on.
Review 8:Hmmm. Maybe as its by the beach?
Review 9:Room felt hotter and more humid than outside. Lack of AC was a bigger issue than I expected.
Review 10:Decent location. Good value. Guests were welcomed at the boat landing and escorted to the hotel.
Review 11:Didn't dislike anything.
Review 12:I loved the location, beach front, slept listening to the wave sound. The owners are very helpful. The rooms are very clean and safe.
Review 13:The rooms had no airflow. Even though the fan in the room kept us alive, it was still rather hot at night.
Review 14:The location was the best part, right on the door step of the Caribbean Sea. The rooms were basic but had all you need for simple island life.
Review 15:would be nice if they offered breakfest
Review 16:Great location by the beach, the hotel guide waited for us at the bus station in Cariari and helped us to get to the location
Review 17:We had cockroaches and flies in room despite it being clean, but didn't really bother us.
Review 18:Location by sea. Hammocks, turtle tour was great. Big room, hot water, good wifi. Cheap breakfast.
Review 19:Payment was not clear: different prices if paid in cash or card, taxes applied in one case, not in the other... not professional. Also, no airco
Review 20:Good value for money
Review 21:Wifi was fairly inconsistent. Shower head was surrounded by wires which was a bit worrying. There was a spider web in the bathroom, with spider and flies.
Review 22:Staff picked up from the dock and gave useful information on the walk. Was a nice touch.
Review 23:Room layout meant that they didn't benefit from cooling sea breeze. Floor Fan in room was good quality but needed a longer cord so could move around in the room.
Review 24:Staff were excellent. Very helpful Hammocks were great - beachfront location gave a breeze that made the hot humid weather more bearable
Review 25:The breakfast was bad and the toilet was not working really well.
Review 26:The location was good, right at the beach. They cleaned the room every day and they did a good job. The staff was helpfull.
Review 27:Nothing
Review 28:Great hostel with friendly host. Wonderfull place to stay. Close to the national park en across the ocean. For tours; ask for the guide Roberto, great tourguide.
Review 29:There is no wifi access in the room, but there was from the hammocks.
Review 30:Cisco has turned towel origami into a from of art. Snails, swans, hearts; everything can be made from a well folded towel. Always great fun to come home to.
Review 31:Hotel is really cosy and colorful. Separate bedrooms provide privacy and comfort and common hammock and dining zone let you meet the othere guests if you want.
Review 32:Bathroom was a bit small
Review 33:Really excellent location right on the beach, even though it's tucked away behind the village a bit. Breakfast coffee was good and they offer many tours around the island. Staff was overall pretty helpful.
Review 34:Great place to lie in a hammock and listen to the Caribbean. The guided tour from the hotel was the experience of a lifetime - howler and white faced monkeys, iguanas, caiman, green macaws and so much more. Highly recommended.
Review 35:No air con in the room so was very very hot but two fans. Otherwise no complaints whatsoever.
Review 36:Lovely accommodation. Cabinas staff friendly and helpful. Right next to beautiful beach. Less than 5 minute walk to centre of village and restaurants. Would stay again.
Review 37:Didn't like how far away the pool was or how hot the rooms were. Not really the hotels fault though.
Review 38:Loved the area near the beach where you can sit around in hammocks.
Review 39:we were next to the reception, so there was always noise starting in front of our window at 5am. In the rooms its very hot, even with open window. In front of the room is a wooden bench where you can sit, but it's not very comfortable for a longer time (to read, etc.). At the reception was sometimes a woman who clicked her smartphone during answering and wasn't very helpful.
Review 40:we stayed for 3 nights. They transport the luggage from the ferrystation to the room. It's close from the beach.
Review 41:I think a basic breakfast should be included. But if you are on an early morning tour then the fresh food place in the "square" does smoothies and pancakes from heaven.
Review 42:Family run by warm hearted team. Location was great
Review 43:Nice staff. People in the village were great. Great food. Fishing unbelievable Got to go there to see this place. Will differently go again next year
Review 44:The staff, there is one rude person working here, I asked something the first day I came here before reaching the hotel. It was something general about the location of the national park and i got such a bad response, its almost threatning. Like Mister you don't understand english? With his bad english saying that to me. Then he told me I already told you a couple of minutes ago. I swear i didn't hear him say anything about that or he must be mumbeling and I didn't understand. Anyway thats not a goood way to treat people. I don't like this guy.
Review 45:Breakfast not provided but is available if you give prior notice the night before. Only my opinion but I felt it lacked a little bit in atmosphere. I felt this a little with the staff as well, not that they we're horrible or anything but that may have just been my experience.
Review 46:Cabinas Icaco was a reasonable priced guest house. My room was quite nice and clean. Cabinas Icaco is set back from the main area but next to the beach which is a plus. Nice little area with hammocks to chill. Next to the beach
Review 47:Wifi wasn't very consistent. For the cost, would have been nice to have free breakfast. I was shocked that this was an additional charge.
Review 48:Good location, just a few metres away from the beach. Even so the tides were too high to swim, going to sleep and being able to hear the ocean was very soothing. Bathroom was spacious and staff was always available for inquiries. I liked the hammocks out front for relaxation.
Review 49:Very friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant Doña Maria was recommended to us, which was really really delicious. Cabinas Icaco is close to the ocean. The rooms are clean and comfortable.
Review 50:We stayed for 3 nights and it was an absolute pleasure. The staff is friendly and the rooms are clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again!
Review 51:There is a restaurant but it doesn't serve guests (lunch or dinner), although it will prepare food for outside groups. There are no kitchen facilities. The rooms were clean but basic (e.g. no TV) and there's no common area. We had a lot of rain while we were visiting so we spent a lot of time in our room. It's a bit of a walk to the main area and restaurants. At night we had a flashlight and it was fine to walk. but I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it as a single female traveler. I would choose another hotel if we were back in the area.
Review 52:The staff was friendly. The room was clean and was cleaned during our stay.
Review 53:No onsite restaurant so you have a bit of a hike to get to restaurants... kind-of a pain when the weather is bad.
Review 54:Good Value & Great Location next to the ocean. Hot water shower with good water pressure. Simple basic rooms.
Review 55:Would be better if the restaurant stayed open for more than just breakfast as it means having to walk (not too far) to get food.
Review 56:Friendly staff and comfortable room.
Review 57:We asked the staff to reserve our boat transfer to moin. They told us it to be secured for the next day. However, this was not the case and the boat was already full when we came to the docks. We took the alternative route with boat and bus to get to limon, finally. Better book with the agency at the docks directly! Except this, everything was great!
Review 58:The staff of the hotel is great and tries to help you all the time. We had the bungalow with ocean view and our own terrace, which was very clean and quite. The price of the breakfast is reasonable. Nice chill out area with hammocks.
Review 59:Wifi signal wasn't always completely available, which is understandable in the jungle.
Review 60:We (2 young couples) had one big room with five beds and private bathroom. The accommodation was directly located at the beach and offered six nice hammock to relax. We left Tortuguero one day earlier than planned and the staff was courteous to give us 50% discount for our cancelled night.
Review 61:Don't come here expecting the Ritz, you get what you pay for. But thought all in all was good value! Not a great hotel for honeymooners as no glass in the windows just mosquito nets ;-) ! (Temperature in room was fine and had a good fan)
Review 62:Great value, friendly staff with good English! Very close to beach so great for turtle season! Not in town, this can be a good or bad point, but only a 5 min walk.
Review 63:The water heater for the shower head had wires wrapped in electrical tape which was a little sketchy but just didn't touch them lol. A small refrigerator would be nice for leftovers and a couple cold drinks, even if they charged a little more for it.
Review 64:The owner was very helpful and accommodating and the rooms were cleaned daily. The price was good and breakfast available for about $5pp. It does get very hot/humid so being on the ocean-side of the village is great, get a little breeze at least. The sitting area outside each room and the hammock area is a nice addition.
Review 65:Colorful and very clean rooms. You can see the ocean from the hotel. Very simple and authentic breakfast with little extra money. The village is nice. Don't bring heavy bags with you cause it's gonna be a nightmare for you to carry your suitcases with the rain (you can leave them in the car that you'll leave at the parking lot).
Review 66:Wasn`t my problem (actually, I slept the best here from all my stay in Costa Rica), but I guess it can feel very hot and stuffy for someone in the rooms.
Review 67:Loved the location, right on the beach, a bit away from the village centre so very quiet for those dreamy evening hanging in the hammock and listening to the waves pounding. It's a very simple place - mind you, exactly as it is advertised - yet i loved the simplicity and exotic feel to it. Owner and his wife are very friendly and nice people. Very nice home made breakfast even though you pay a few bucks. Recommended!
Review 68:Tortuguera is such a nice place to stay, but you can' t expect real comfort, because it' s in the middle of nowhere. The room was clean, but very basic. The location was perfect. Next to beach and a 5 minutes walk from 'town' and the entrance of the National Park.
Review 69:The hotel is 5-10 mins walking from the town's center, there is no AC, you cant close the windows
Review 70:the staff are really nice and friendly and will help you with everything, there is a really good breakfast there ($5). Because the hotel is kind of far it 20 seconds from the beach, the wifi is excellent and there is even a swimming pool
Review 71:Electrocuted by the shower head (seriously - didn't see the electrical wires from underneath until it was too late). Overwhelming mold smell. Breakfast not included (for $40 it should be) and the server was really rude. After 4+ hours of travel, they try to sell you tours and make you wait before they take you to your room - made it feel like a tourist trap.
Review 72:Very close to the beach
Review 73:A bit of a humid smell in the room There was no pool, as they stated on booking
Review 74:Breakfast was yummie and very good price Friendly owner and staff One of the cheapest options in Tortuguero
Review 75:- pool is not at the hotel - shower was scary (we both got shocked) and more lukewarm than hot - bathroom was very small (sit on the toilet sideways)
Review 76:- good value for money - nice hammocks - breakfast was nice (not included) - manager arranged boat + shuttle transportation to cahuita for only 45 dollar (note: this boat trip was not a guided boat trip)
Review 77:There's no air conditioning and the location is about 5 mins walking from the town
Review 78:The staff are very nice and welcoming, the price is very reasonable very close to the beach and the rooms are very nice and have hot water 24 hours
Review 79:The only downside is the WIFI signal. I am a type of person that uses my cellphone a lot & WIFI couldn't reached my room. I have to go outside the room or at the lobby which convenietly have hammocks I can hang-out while using the WIFI.
Review 80:Mr. Calixto is a great host. I was alone when I went there, he advised me of what I can do and what I can't around Tortuguero first hand. I went there with a plan to just relax and know the town a bit, so I never booked any tour. When the owner saw me staying on the hotel while everyone is out for any tours they've booked, he even asked me if I am not going to check anywhere as if he's concerned I'm not enjoying my vacation w/c i really appreciate from him. I even overslept on time and woke up around 10:30 am, their breakfast time is until 10am only but the lady cook still offered me the breakfast. Rooms are newly renovated: 10/10, with fans and the windows are just perfect, I haven't even used the fans the whole night because it was fresh on the room anyway.
Review 81:No glass in room windows (just mosquito net & curtains) means you can be disturbed if there are noisy guests near you going to bed later or getting up earlier
Review 82:What made the stay for us was the wonderful hosts at Icaco, and the great service we received. Pura vida!
Review 83:No a/c (but there was a fan) Bathroom door was a little snug on the knees while using the toilet haha
Review 84:We checked in very early (8:30 am) and they had our room ready with in 10 minutes They have hammocks out front! Breakfast is not included but they have a restaurant on site and it is well priced Beautiful place :)
Review 85:noisy air blower. was difficult to sleep. small bathroom.
Review 86:Easy and clean, nice staff. sitting possibility in front of the room. situated next to the beach.
Review 87:I was under the impression that the pool was part of the property, not a few blocks walk away.
Review 88:Marlene the receptionist was super caring and accommodating.
Review 89:Room was dark, hardly any daylight, and there was no air flow. Needed to use the fan constantly.
Review 90:Value for money. Breakfast is offered at a very reasonable price. The owner organised to get our clothes dried, since it rained during most of our stay and everything we brought was wet.
Review 91:We had a 8 months baby with us and the would not change the hour for the turtle tour! 8 to 10pm or 10 to midnight! They considere our baby is not a "handicap" so we went 10 to midnight!
Review 92:The kindness of their host!
Review 93:I loved Cabinas Icaco Tortuguero because it was on the beach front, the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were really clean and painted beautiful bright colours. This little village was like heaven on earth with birds and wildlife and flowers everywhere. I felt very safe and the tours I took organised by the hotel were great with excellent guides. The hotel was great value for money.
Review 94:Their rooms are quite basic and we didn't get hot water despite it being advertised. Be cautious of a local tour guide named Adolfo who despite being very friendly will over charge you for any tour. Arranging your tours in town or by the tourist office at the boat dock will save you money.
Review 95:Although we visited in one of the wettest months for 10 years we were greeted with smiles by all the staff. The hotel is on the edge of town however it faces out onto the beach.
Review 96:A little worn with no frills. Need to be OK with no AC. Fans worked pretty well. They Do not take Credit cards on site and no bank or A T M in village.
Review 97:Right on the Beach you can see where the turtles have nested if you go out early! Super friendly and helpful owner and staff! Hammocks over looking the beach are Awesome!!!!!! Good breakfast at a fair price.
Review 98:The location is perfect next to the beach and very close to the grocery store and restaurants. I particularly like the room upstairs on the beach side. It is much cooler there with the breeze coming from the ocean. The room also smells a lot fresher. It isn't a five star hotel but it is a good place to stay. Calixto is a very good host and answers all your question. He would help you out in any way you can. It's a very good price for the money you pay.
Review 99:It was right by the beach, had a nice pool and helpful staff.
Review 100:Meh - rooms a bit cell like - Better nicer cheaper places in tortuguero -
Review 101:Away from the centre of the village - relaxed
Review 102:The hammocks and the sound of the waves. Good connections to nice tour guides :)
Review 103:Location and value
Review 104:The rooms are simple but comfortable. The staff is really nice, and makes sure you have a pleasant stay. Very good value for money!
Review 105:The cabinas are next to the beach and you can walk straight into the forest. The cabinas look nice. Breakfast is delicious.
Review 106:No airco, swimming pool was very dirty and far from the hotel
Review 107:Friendly staff, nice location and good breakfast
Review 108:Breakfast was incredible, bed very comfortable staff were amazing.
Review 109:beautiful surroundings and wildlife. The hotel is very simple but exactly as described. Turtle watching was great
Review 110:Beautifull spot with nice and friendly people! Great value for price!
Review 111:The nice and helpful staf, the excursions they organise and perfect location.
Review 112:Was charged a bit more that what was quoted on booking.com
Review 113:Good budget option. Clean and comfortable. Good location and helpful staff.
Review 114:Nice charming place
Review 115:Beds a little uncomfortable.
Review 116:Superb location on beach. Loved the hammocks.
Review 117:Location, only 20m from the beach
Review 118:the room has no good view,
Review 119:Calixto and Maybell make you feel at home
Review 120:It has a beach view.
Review 121:Nice patio
Review 122:You hear the roar of the ocean all the time, because you are that close. The wonderful staff kept the rooms clean and friendly.
Review 123:Nice place close to the beach
Review 124:Very inviting. Bright colors and beautiful landscaping. Loved the hammocks and proximity to beach!
