Reviews for Hotel Famosa
Review 1:It's not that close to the center as advertised, but it's conveniently located. Weird elevator might be a problem for people with heavy luggage (it stops between the floors and you need to walk up or down one pair of stairs to get to your floor). It wasn't a problem for me but be advised.
Review 2:Good room, clean and well equipped. It's within walking distance from the station and metro/tram.
Review 3:why a minibar when it is only filled with two bottles of water?
Review 4:Good room, with good facilities. Even a minibar (but why a minibar when it is only filled with two bottles of water?) Good bed, quiet room.
Review 5:Room doors don't block sounds well. Close to station, but rather far from the city center. Some of the engineering choices are weird (e.g. elevator stops half the flight of stairs between floors).
Review 6:Very clean; all the toiletries provided
Review 7:The staff speak very little English, they tried to make me to pay extra when I checked out because the toilet was blocked. They locked all of the doors and would not let me out untill I threatened to call the police. I also tried to have breakfast at 9:30 and they wouldn't let me to eat because they said I was too late even though it finishes at 10.
Review 8:The room was very nice, very comfy and modern.
Review 9:Nothing special.
Review 10:This is not first time to stay at this hotel but I see they are trying to do their best for improvement. E.g. Bathrobe is available now for the room with private toilet and shower room at the corridor. This is handy to go back to the room after shower.
Review 11:No bar, enough other opportunities in walking distance though.
Review 12:Great bed, good shower, friendly staff and proper breakfast. No private parking available at that time, but free parking in the street from evening to 8:30 AM or €8 per 24h in the garage one block further. Excellent value and will definitely stay again next I'm in Düsseldorf.
Review 13:It was essentially a single room with the bed pushed up against the wall and therefore no bedside tables. Only one glass for a drink in the room and only one glass in the bathroom. The was little or no room for belongings and although it was on the fifth floor it was fairly noisy
Review 14:The receptionist was very friendly and helpful on our arrival. It was good to have a balcony and the room was well decorated.
Review 15:All was perfect.
Review 16:Was here the second time and once again this is my perfect place to stay in Dusseldorf. My request for a quiet room was fulfilled by the very friendly female receptionist. Staff were all very friendly. Breakfast is very good with fried eggs and fresh products. I will stay at the Hotel Famosa again.
Review 17:Facilities are not very comfortable, especially a weird elevator which does not go to the ground floor. Breakfast was average.
Review 18:Location - close to center and next to bus stop Price - quite affordable
Review 19:Noisy rooms and thin walls between rooms we could hear couples havingsex. We asked to change the room and a very unfriendly man told us norooms available and then he took us to the roof top and gave us a coldroom with six single beds, dirty tiles, dirty towels, loud ventilationin the bathroom, dirty carpet. Terrible experience we do not recommendit to any one. He refused to give us outer money back when we wanted toleave earlier.
Review 20:Location
Review 21:No coffee or tea making facilities. No comfortable chair in room. Not good views.
Review 22:Very clean and modern furnished room. Helpful staff. Easy access to airport (train or bus), city shops and old town(walking distance). Good breakfast.
Review 23:Many things about the hotel shown in the listing were not exactly accurate.. yes, there is a lift but you must first climb 3 flights of steps to access it and then climb another set upon exiting it to reach your floor. The hotel is easily a good 20-25 minutes walk away from the core downtown and riverfront area. In the daytime it felt fine to walk nearby but at night, having a casino right next door and 3 adult stores only steps away didn't feel very comfortable as we were travelling with our children. On the booking.com site, we had requested a family room for 4 persons and were assigned two rooms for 2 people in each. The first, #31 was so tiny that we could barely walk in it when our suitcases were placed there. The second, room #34 was much bigger and in it were beds with sleeping space for 4, yet only 2 of the beds were made up. Logically, we approached the girl at the reception to question why on earth we'd been assigned both rooms when one would have been sufficient. We had no qualms about paying for the 4 of us to be there but clearly we did not need room 31. The girl was not at all pleasant and became very sarcastic with us.. totally inappropriate manner and very offputting. Having spent almost 3 weeks visiting Europe, this is the only negative review I am writing. So unfortunate because the hotel itself is quite lovely but the description definitely needs to be more accurate.
Review 24:The actual rooms were clean and well-appointed.
Review 25:I had a room for 45€ with the WC & shower outside while the normal cost is 35€, they told me the extra 10€ charge was due to booking. The elevator is two floors upper before you could have access to the upper floors
Review 26:The kindness and help from the night man. This hotel is totally renewed and the bed is really very confortable
Review 27:No elevator (we were on the first floor, so no problem) and quite noisy when the windows are open.
Review 28:Perfectly acceptable hotel, great service, decent rooms. Would book again.
Review 29:It was warm those days and the hotel does not have an AC system like most of german hotels. It is 20min walk to city center.
Review 30:Everything A high quality hotel.
Review 31:Other quests don't come or go according to your sleeping schedule - not for light sleepers.
Review 32:Friendly personnel, close location to the railway station and the neighborhood offers good dining options. Bathroom was clean and the bed ok.
Review 33:Prices were completely out of line compared with the quality of the rooms. Because there was a huge exhibition in the city, they multiplied their normal rates 7x !
Review 34:Limited elevator :( Only between 1,5th to 4,5th floor. Need to use stairs with luggage between 0-1,5th and 4,5-5th.
Review 35:Silent and clean Easy to reach Main Railway Station
Review 36:The hotel is in the good location near the Dusseldorf Railway Station, not far from Old city. The room is clean and comfortable. The sleep was excellent in bed. The bathroom and rest room are clean and well-equipped.
Review 37:Neighborhood,,,feel a bit unsafe when got back during night. Not that recommendable to solo female traveller
Review 38:The wifi works so well and all the facilites are comfortable.
Review 39:-The wifi wasn't great and kept dropping out. -No tea makingfacilities in the room
Review 40:-Ease of access to the main part of town -The staff were lovely and veryhelpful (their English was infinitely better than my German!) -The bed!It was so comfy!- I arrived very early in the morning and was immediately offered a cup of tea. HIGHLY RECOMMEDED!
Review 41:The hotel is very clean and comfy, in 3 minutes from 721 bus station (15 minutes from airport). The stuff was very pleasant, they have small ready maps with route to the city center, having just several hours in the morning before flight I could walk down Dusseldorf with that map.
Review 42:the little fridge in the room was not working. so it was hard to store a yoghurt or any dessert, that has to be kept in a fridge. It would be nice, if the room had an electric kettle for making some tea in the morning.
Review 43:It was in a walking distance to the train station. You can take a tram or walk about 12-15 min to the hotel. This area has lots of international restaurants of the immigrants - like arabic, iranian, korean etc. Our room was spacious and clean and had two windows, but it was a room for 4 people normally. The towels were changed every day. The young lady in the lobby was very polite. there is a tram stop close to the hotel, 3 stops and you are in the old town. I didnt try the breakfast. There is a big grocery store Netto next to the hotel. I would stay here again. There was nothing I could complain about.
Review 44:Nothing I dislike.
Review 45:Good value for money. Nice design room with comfortable big pillow and mattress. Bottle of water is free of charge, which you can find in refrigerator. Wi-Fi is strong. It's close to central station and little Tokyo area. I will definitely come back.
Review 46:Very bad neighborhood, noisy, clean nor well maintained hotel.Do not be mistaken by the good rating. Certianly not for the normal price. This might give you the idea that it should be good (claimed normal price EUR 240/night, I paid half), but it is not.
Review 47:-
Review 48:по приезду ресепшн вызвала полицию, потому что мы из России - нас разбудили посреди ночи для проверки документов. Русским в этот отель ни ногой!! The window frame in our room was under repair while we stayed; as we left room in the morning they installed new parts of frame with a sealing that awfully smelled and caused bad headache so we had to sleep with wide open windows at winter.
Review 49:nothing
Review 50:The Staff, the location.... the room have a private bathroom on the same floor, just a few step from the room, nice and clean, I had no problem concerning the bathroom...
Review 51:Bed was a bit small, but comfortable enough. The parking was convenient, but for us a bit expensive, since parking at night on the street is free, and we arrived late and had to take the car in the morning and pay for it on the street, since we couldn't leave it for an hour after check out time. Not a complaint, but something to consider before paying €15.
Review 52:Very friendly staff, very clean & everything you need in a hotel, parking next door, in the city centre. Would for sure stay here again!
Review 53:Street is a little sketchy, but didn't feel unsafe while we were walking around.
Review 54:Close to the altstadt. Easy access to public transport. Large family room with plenty of space!!
Review 55:Having to walk both up and down stairs to use elevator- not great with heavy suitcases or small children
Review 56:Generous room size, good breakfast, very clean
Review 57:Some noisy was made when someone open the door or go the bathroom which locates next to our room.
Review 58:The staff is really nice and give u a lot of help. The price and the location are prefect. The room have every thing we need.
Review 59:This hotel is in a depressing neighborhood, the walls and/or ceilings are paper thin, and the wifi was terribly unreliable!
Review 60:Beds were quite comfortable!
Review 61:It would be nice to have some space beside the bed but it's not a big issue.
Review 62:The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was basic and comfortable. I think it's a fair hotel.
Review 63:I was on the 4th floor and the lift only went from the first floor, a pretty minor point, but this is all I could think of
Review 64:Very spacious room, modern and comfortable. Very comfortable place with great WiFi which was important for me. The staff were very good and very friendly. The place didn't look much from the outside, but was quite a gem on the inside.
Review 65:The elevator starts operation at the first floor (after you walk up two flights of stairs).
Review 66:Staff is really helpful and friendly; the location is just close enough to the center to be practicle (10-15 minute walk). The rooms are spacious and clean; the breakfast is good.
Review 67:Rooms were a little old fashioned but the one I had was spacious and very clean
Review 68:The staff were helpful and it had a homely feel. I would certainly stay there again when on business in Dusseldorf. Its position , a 10 minute walk from the station was perfect for getting to the Messe and around at night.
Review 69:The location can be unsafe sometimes. At night people who get drunk walk around...
Review 70:I stayed very comfortably, and the room was really clean. I used refrigerator, radiator and Wifi usefully :) And the staffs are nice.
Review 71:Unfriendly staff by arriving. We asked about german cuisine (restaurants) and guy on reception send us to turkish restaurant! Dirty quarter.
Review 72:Very big room. Good bed.
Review 73:Given that I booked at the last minute and there was not a lot of choice, I was not expecting anything very good given the price, and that near to a central station is not normally the best location. However I received a very warm welcome to a friendly and clean hotel which had everything I needed - comfortable, clean, good shower and free wifi!
Review 74:Everything was OK
Review 75:The Hotel Famosa has a perfect location. There is very fast WiFi - and it was a big surprise for me! Staff speaks English well and was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was OK as well. Hotel has an elevator and there was no noise during whole our stay.
Review 76:Well, my room had a pretty dirty rag already. Fortunately I had some slippers with me.
Review 77:Check in was very efficient and the female receptionist very friendly and forthcoming. Breakfast was excellent, there were even fried eggs. I asked for a room at the back so the room was totally quiet and I had a good sleep.
Review 78:We stayed during the summer and so had the window open as there was no air-conditioning. We were on the street side and the noise was really bad.
Review 79:On three occassions we had to seek advice and directions for the staff, they were always very helpful, cheerful and chatty. Made us feel very welcome. We had a twin room fantastic value, small but clean, tidy and had everything we needed.
Review 80:Despite best attempts to accommodate, their WiFi is just in-n-out, unreliable. Probably just need to upgrade routers, since it works well around 2am~6am. Normal hours just means no reliable bouncing out WiFi
Review 81:Great Staff, tidy, solid
Review 82:Everything, staff were great, nothing was any trouble to them. Rooms clean and spacious.Ideal for using as a base to travel around Germany by train watching football.Already booked up for 5 nights in November.
Review 83:Terrible wifi as kept cutting off. No lift from ground floor. Average breakfast
Review 84:Staff were helpful and spoke English, easy location to get to from the main station. Great shopping nearby and beautiful walk along the Rhein. Clean hotel and comfy beds. 24hr reception
Review 85:The room #22 went with the private bathroom, but it wasn't inside the room, you had to pass a small corridor to get to your private bathroom.
Review 86:I like the quality and fair price. The room was clean, with a fridge and a water :) Only 15 minutes walking from the main railway station.
Review 87:Some stupids and drunken people are trying to make visitors uncomfortable by playing dirty tricks (like switching the Fuse off and making noise while the other in sleeping norm.
Review 88:From the location it is easy to reach all important access and the was fluent well the hotel is family business and the management are really conscious about that Weldone.
Review 89:It's ok for the private bathroom in the hallway but I think is better for them to have a sink inside the room. It's a bit far away from the central station.
Review 90:The staff is friendly, the room is big and clean. Close to the shopping area.
Review 91:Location is very dodgy- I walked outside in a suit, during the day, and some junkies nearby were staring at me awkwardly. I didn't dare return unless I was in a taxi. They should get a security guard, and/or throw a carpet / entry way in the front to distinguish it from the surroundings.
Review 92:Nice staff Cleanliness Wi-Fi Breakfast Good price
Review 93:The window in our room was broken (could not close) so the noise from the street was unbearable all night. The gentleman in the reception said "Yes, it is broken", with a smile. He said he could not give us another room. Next morning, the lady in the reception (did not speak english) said they would fix it some day. I said I was completely disappointed with the room, she did not care. I said they should not sell the room to customers with broken window, she was smiling as if she was making fool of me. It was very humiliating for me and I will definitely not stay there again. Please keep in mind that there is no elevator unless you climb three flights of stairs.
Review 94:Pillows weren't great but that's my only qualm!
Review 95:The room was lovely, spacious with loads of wardrobe space and a fridge. The front of the hotel doesn't exactly sell itself well but inside is much better. Staff were brilliant, so helpful the hotel is within easy walking distance of the old town where most of the bars are.
Review 96:The toilet was outside from the room
Review 97:The idea of climbing up after a stressful journey. The lift should be working
Review 98:Very beautiful rooms
Review 99:A huge thank that they waited and checked in me almost at midnight. And pretty nice room for that money.
Review 100:Nice hotels. Good service.
Review 101:Wall between rooms not sound proof.
Review 102:Surpricing good room for the price
Review 103:All the above and the breakfast was fine as well.
Review 104:Nothing bad to mention
Review 105:The staff were polite and helpful. The location was central and the room was very clean
Review 106:No tea and coffee making facilities in the room
Review 107:Really close to the shops.
Review 108:The hotel was clean and the staff were polite and very helpful, nothing was to much trouble.
Review 109:- Far from center (10-15min.) by foot - No parking - No soundproof walls, so hope you will have calm neighbors
Review 110:- Hotel is clean - Friendly staff
Review 111:No lift at the reception of the hotel, you have to carry your luggage to the first floor to use the lift.
Review 112:Location is good
Review 113:Expensive for what they offer. Room was extremely small, unconfortable, dark and loud. Not near the train station as advertised.
Review 114:Nothing, really.
Review 115:N/A
Review 116:Friendly staff, nice, clean room, only a 10 minute walk to aldstadt and city centre
Review 117:None.
Review 118:The hotel is just excellent. Worth every cent. Infact, I'm leaving Dortmund to come back to Famosa.
Review 119:staff not very skilled in english but nevertheless able to communicate.
Review 120:best quality for the price. very clean room and late check-in included!
Review 121:Friendly staff, clean, good location. Good value for money...
Review 122:Good value, nice people running the hotel, location not perfect, but ok, many supermarkets in the neighbourhood.
Review 123:do not be late with a friend
Review 124:The room are nice and clean,

Review 126:Well-run, polite, cheerful. Nice, comfortable and very quiet.
Review 127:Elevator is useless.
Review 128:Personel was kind. Great rooms.
Review 129:Nice and clean room, good value for your money.
Review 130:the location is perfect, very close to Japanese restaurant and centre of city
Review 131:In general the value for money was really good
