Reviews for Rodmay Hotel
Review 1:We wish the bar was open
Review 2:Very cool old building we stayed in the sweet it was like stepping back in time it was clean it doesn't look like much from the out side but supper cool inside
Review 3:Need to keep expectations in line with age of building. Room was very retro / clean and in good repair
Review 4:Rustic feel to an older building. Building is being redone but keeps the old school feel.
Review 5:The room that we were promised was given to someone else and we were told that we were given an "updated" room. After seeing the rooms our friends were staying in, we knew this to be untrue. It took forever to get hot water for a shower. Our one room light flickered incessantly and the beds were extremely uncomfortable. And we came in with low expectations....
Review 6:The only things that I liked about this hotel were the proximity to the hall where I was attending a wedding reception and the fact that the towels looked clean.
Review 7:We paid extra for a view room and a fridge and the view was mainly of the paper mill and the fridge was incredibly noisy. However, we only paid $76.50 a night so are not knocking it, it was great value for the money, clean, and we would recommend it.
Review 8:It was an interesting old property with antiques and old photo's and walking distance to the Brewery, heritage houses and a good Indian restaurant. It also took dogs which our friends had with them and that was why we stayed there.
Review 9:Real close to the mill
Review 10:It's an old hotel from days gone by and has the accompanying charm. Good basic accommodation that works if your needing to be in the Townsite area.
Review 11:At 8:45 we were struggling to find a restaurant that was still serving food.
Review 12:We arrived late and left early. The hotel looks quite run down but was clean and pleasant inside.
Review 13:When I first checked in the bed lamp was missing it's bulb. The next morning when I tried to shower there was no hot water.
Review 14:I liked the old pictures and how the history of the building was show cased.
Review 15:It was definitely old, which was a lot of the glamour of it as well, but not real nice. I would say that it was not totally restored even inside the rooms. Old bedding and towels, but they were okay! No air conditioning but there was a fan.
Review 16:I loved the history in the place. It was like going back 80 years with all the old furniture in the lobby and the big old staircase. It was like staying in a museum. - it had a charm about it.
Review 17:The pulp mill was to close. No landscaping around hotel.
Review 18:History and pictures in hotel. The replica 50's diner was great. To bad it was closed indefinitely.
Review 19:Would be grate to have a breakfast at the hotel. Also an air- conditioner would add a bigger comfort during the summer hit stay.
Review 20:The atmosphere of the place back to time, also reasonable price and exceptional cleanness.
Review 21:The 'old building odor' was overwhelmingly strong, the carpet seemed ancient, and the security to our room very questionable. I would never stay here again.
Review 22:A small thing, but I found the bathroom fan to be very loud. I left the bathroom light off when I could.
Review 23:The location was quiet but close to town, and there was a nice historical atmosphere.
Review 24:Old big band 20s music playing when we entered, old 1911 pictures of the original hotel, Ross the Beer Store/hotel employee was very nice. We absolutely loved this unique slice of history!
Review 25:Small TV Reduced amenities, no pub no restaurant
Review 26:Spacious Clean Value Size of small apartment Quiet Out of town but close enough to do all business within 5 miles History of hotel quite interesting
Review 27:The building has such great character, it is expected to be sold soon, then we expect the hotel to be restored to its former glory. The hotel's location in the Powell River town site, is one only 7 such designated town sites in Canada.
Review 28:its right next to the pulp mill, thank god room was facing away...if it was renovated it would be something grand like it was back in its day...room was huge but the door felt like anyone could push it open...and oh yeah the plastic flowers in the window sill
Review 29:about the only thing that was intriguing was the age of the hotel...
Review 30:this treasure is not treasured by the province of b.c. and the owners of the Powell River Mill (Catalyst) are not conducting tours through the very impressive Mill.. shame on Catalyst
Review 31:great treasure of history, needs to be preserved.. the working mill added to atmosphere...the smell of pulp and the sound of the machines operating where great! the owners told stories of the early years, full of characters..great place for a mystery weekend, and or a seance !!
Review 32:We reserved a double room with fridge. We were the only ones to stay in the hotel that night, yet they seemed to go out of the way to find us the worst room in the place. We had an awkward dorm room instead of a double, no fridge, no hot water, and a sign in the shower telling us the tub leaked. There was hair in the bathroom, an old razor case and a smell from the factory directly next door. The check in lady was pretty obviously looking to leave and made us feel like quite the inconvenience If you're looking for a cheap place to sleep for the night, look on, this one isn't worth it.
Review 33:They did not close until after we arrived.
Review 34:No air conditioning. Windows wouldn't open properly. Coolest room in the suite was the bathroom. Keys wouldn't work in the main hotel doors. No staff around at checkout. Pulp mill is right in front of the building. You can tell that this building needs a lot of work.
Review 35:Bathroom was nicely updated. Free wifi.
Review 36:Still lots of renovation work to be done but could see light at the end of the tunnel and I will likely stay once they are complete.
Review 37:spacious room, cleanliness of room, lobby with historical photos and equipment. Was like a museum - loved it!
Review 38:Pub in hotel didn't serve food there should be a cafe in the hotel as they seem to have facilities there for it
Review 39:ClAssic old hotel quiet in the old townsite close to all amenities
Review 40:The hotel itself was run down and right out of a bad 70s movie. The hotel is not at all what it looks like in the pictures, and the rooms weren't either. The rooms were small and poorly decorated and had no air conditioning on very hot days. It was not a very comfortable stay although it had a bed and we could sleep there....
Review 41:The desk staff and owners were very nice and accommodating
Review 42:Our room had a name "luxury" and there is no air conditioner! It's too hot on a hot days. Bad smell around the building because of its age. There is no elevator, it's hard to get on a second floor for those who have trouble walking. Water pump is too noisy - when people in the other rooms are using water, it's quite disturbing.
Review 43:Not much
Review 44:No desk and chair in room. Room looked right onto the paper mill across the street so I was woken by operations at 5:30. No breakfast (although the breakfast at the Old Courthouse down the street was excellent).
Review 45:Amazing history to this hotel, that retains some of its former style.
Review 46:Poor night lamp. Dim light, burned out the second night. Initial difficulty connecting to wifi.
Review 47:Historic location and surroundings if you do not mind the factory noise. Well maintained.
Review 48:it stunk - old mildew
Review 49:handy to our destination and low price
Review 50:pub closed, diner closed, very dusty lobby
Review 51:The room which we stayed in face to west,it is really hot.Tere is no an air conditioning. Hot water sometime come sometime go.
Review 52:WiFi didn't work no breakfast
Review 53:Cool old heritage hotel
Review 54:It's old and rundown.
Review 55:Inexpensive. Good location.
Review 56:Didn't like how close to the mill it was.
Review 57:We liked the fact that it was a heritage building with lots of history.
Review 58:I like having clean room at an affordable rate. Very few services, but I don't need them. Staff always respectful.
Review 59:Just not as represented.
Review 60:The historical charm.
Review 61:Because i was working and the hotel wasn't busy wished i could have booked out at end of shift at 6;00 pm
Review 62:Close to where i worked
Review 63:Stairs are a problem Rooms tend to not have a desk Noise from liquor store customers No cafe
Review 64:Price and general ambiance Liquor store on premises
Review 65:A block away from Townsite Brewery :)
Review 66:lack of resteraunt,and pub
Review 67:Hotel was close to my place of buiesness (mill)
Review 68:Rarely does one get to stay in a hotel that is over 100 years old, very quaint.
Review 69:No hot water
Review 70:Fast Wifi - Nice Historic feel - Nice price
Review 71:No hot water available
Review 72:Great atmosphere
Review 73:No ac.
Review 74:The customer service. They lied about room availability and the manager Marion was quite rude.
Review 75:Honestly it was the only room available
Review 76:Slight odour from nearby mill, 1st impressions on arrival
Review 77:Price, and cleanliness in general
Review 78:No air conditioning. View of the paper mill. The restaurant was not open.
Review 79:I liked the old fashioned feel of the hotel. I liked the friendly staff. The room was nice.
Review 80:Room was very small and tired looking....there was plenty of vacancy so not sure why the staff put us in this room. Outdated furnishings and TV.....this Hotel needs new blood that is creative etc etc etc. So much possibility !!
Review 81:Needed something quick and convenient. This Hotel has Good Bones and with a little Face Lift, re-decorating, some color this could be the Goose that lays Golden Eggs.
Review 82:There was a smell that was offensive. It wasn't musty, but a sour smell. It needs to be thoroughly aired.
Review 83:The hotel was an interesting place to stay. I liked the old pictures of the hotel and city.
Review 84:Beds were a bit hard for my taste, but…not a game changer.
Review 85:Hotel was quiet. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Room was clean. Had cable for that down time. And the 20's theme they had was charming. They also had the softest towels I've ever had at a hotel. All in all a very nice experience. Would stay there again.
Review 86:My room was two floors above the bar and there is zero sound insulation so it was difficult to rest until the 1 AM closing time.
Review 87:The classy old hotel and its history.
Review 88:Getting in and out of the bathroom was a bit of a squeeze, and it was perpetually freezing cold in there too. Having to let the water run for 10 minutes before it became hot was a bit of an annoyance too.
Review 89:The room was really elegant: lovely hardwood, nice decor, clean smelling.
Review 90:I get decent room at a decent price, services and staff are minimal, but all I'm interested in is a room for the night. When I deal with the staff they are very pleasant.
Review 91:Some of the furniture in the lobbie were very old and falling apart. The facade still needs to be renovated. The lighting in the room was poor,so was hard to read.
Review 92:It was a heritage hotel and it had a great atmosphere with lot of antiques. Some of the staff were extremely friendly. Because there were few people staying there they upgraded our room. It was very good value.
Review 93:No airconditioning but we bought a fan so that got sorted out. Thefridge in the room did not work very well.
Review 94:Loved the character of the hotel. Beautiful twin staircase. Reallyenjoyed reading about the history of the hotel.
Review 95:Service was excellent! Beautiful heritage hotel, slowly being brought back to its original charm and historic background. There are even resident ghosts...
Review 96:Tired, in big need of sprucing up. Internet not working, suspect theydon't really have it, was told it was being fixed. Room was clean, but very tired, old.
Review 97:Kind of an interesting old hotel, memorabilia was interesting.
Review 98:Hotel gives you the feeling it could be haunted. right near the paper mill.
Review 99:The hotel was in the historic district within walking distance of the Patricia Theatre & historic buildings built in the early 1900s & the locals were the nicest people you would ever want to meet.
Review 100:Rooms sparse, located out of Poewll River so had to drive at night to get to it. AND looks out on billowing smoke coming from the Powell River Mill....rather unfortunate. An old heritage hotel out in the middle of nowhere...matress squeaky, shower door wouldnt close
Review 101:Friendly staff....somewhat clean but dont sit on the duvet...no removable washable cover...
Review 102:Stuffy inside the room. One small electric fan only. There should have been a big stand fan considering the room is big and there is a big living room too. Opening the windows and doors are good though but it let in the mosquitoes as well. We killed 3 of them when the mosquitoes tried to suck our blood. So we had to close the windows and door. It will be great if there was a screen in either the windows or the door so we can let in fresh air while inside the room. Other than these concerns, it was a very interesting stay at this hotel. I know the owners are slowly renovating the place and we know it will become a beautiful landmark when it is done.
Review 103:Very accomodating owners. We didn't know there was no elevator and they readily gave us the king suite with a few dollars added for we were 4 people. One in our group can not climb stairs due to health reasons. We just needed a place to sleep for the night. It was interesting to see old stereos, sewing machines. Quite informative. And the lovely music of the early 20th century! It's like being brought back in a time machine!
Review 104:Service Room - The window overlooked the ground floor roof. Tv did notwork Internet unusable In general the property is rundown and it wouldappear that it is run by people who should not be in the business.
Review 105:The main foyer and staircase was beautiful.
Review 106:Historic Hotel, Fantastic Lobby/stairs as in "old" days. free parking. Breakfast location "Mag Pie" (franchise?), in the hotel, don't miss the great breakfast.. Renovated room.
Review 107:The hotel was a great place to stay. The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was quaint and the bed was comfy. The hotel has a very old world feel to it. The pub was not open however the adjoining restaurant served a great breakfast. There are a couple of bars within easy walking distance. We will definitely stay at the Rodmay again on our next trip to Powell River.
Review 108:Rodmay is a Powell River heritage site (ie very old). We had the master suite on the main floor - which from our perspective - was excellent and affordable. Staff were very friendly. We genuinely enjoyed out stay in which was truly an historical setting. Thank you for the experience!
Review 109:Needs tidying up outside as first impressions could be off putting !.And try to get a front room 1,2 or 3
Review 110:A nice quirky place to stay, old fashioned ,and a liitle out of date, and first impression could be upsetting BUT we really enjoyed our stay.We initially were given room 19 ,but noise from kitchen and view of street was off putting .So a move to room 1 sorted the problem
Review 111:located too close to the pulp & paper mill
Review 112:clean, simple rooms in an old heritage-like building; breakfast at Magpie's was good; close to the Westview ferry terminal
Review 113:It is unfortunate that the back door is used instead of the impressive front lobby.
Review 114:For us, the location was perfect. We also liked the atmosphere of long ago in this old company hotel. The touches of luxury are nostalgic of past good times. The rooms are o.k. with wooden floors, but there is no luxury; however, for a place to sleep while attending a nearby festival, it was quite satisfactory. The restaurant has a reputation that draws crowds especially for the weekend breakfasts. No one leaves the table hungry!
Review 115:No phones in the rooms, very hard bed, no air conditioning or fans, smell outside was so bad that it meant that you could not open the window. Old heritage hotel located near the mill
Review 116:I really didn't like being so close to the pulp mil--I was hoping for some nice quiet time away from the city and the mill's machines made their noise 24/7. Also, I was dismayed to find the fireplace was electric and I couldn't get it to work. Finally, it was advertised that the room had a flat screen TV but it didn't. (I didn't come to watch TV anyway). I do think you need to say in your advertising that the fireplace is electric (I wouldn't have rented the executive suite had I known it was electric). And, I don't know what you can do about the pulp mill. So unfortunate because the hotel is really nice.
Review 117:I liked the atmosphere of the Rodmay Heritage Hotel, very much. And the executive suite #40 was very enjoyable.
Review 118:bed way too soft - mattress needs to be changed.
Review 119:awesome historic character
Review 120:A really lovely welcome, we look forward to returning to the Powell River and would recommend this hotel to all
Review 121:No food available in restaurant.
Review 122:The historical pictures and memorabilia that was placed all around the hotel
Review 123:Everything!
Review 124:historical photos, furnishings
Review 125:there is no elevator
Review 126:location
Review 127:Located directly in front of a paper mill
Review 128:Gorgeous country side in the area
Review 129:The bed head sloped downwards.
Review 130:We liked the rustic old charm, very historical old oak double staircase. Has real atmosphere.
Review 131:Old squeaking mattress.
Review 132:Very friend staff.
