Reviews for Marine Inn

Review 1:That my room blew its fuse and I lost power not even 10 minutes into my stay. There was no phone in the room for emergency purposes and there were few plug ins.

Review 2:The negatives: no elevator; rooms need to be painted; tub was badly chipped; rug was worn; mattress was terrible; very small rooms; 1/3 of staff did not speak English or French. Breakfast at restaurant was mediocre.

Review 3:The harbor view, despite also looking at four fuel tanks, was excellent. The harbor activity (ferries, tugs) was fun to watch. Sunsets over Vancouver Island were terrific. The location was walking distance to good restaurants. Air conditioning worked well.

Review 4:We found the charge of $20. a day to have our dog stay with us too much. We will not stay there again.

Review 5:The hotel is central and although the owners do not speak very good English they were friendly. Internet is included,

Review 6:Older wiring in hotel can cause room breaker to trip if air con and microwave on at same time. English is second language for owners who have great difficulty understanding. New english speaking receptionist is great so hopefully she is on if you have problems.

Review 7:Microwave, fridge, air conditioning, pet friendly. The rooms were very clean although main hall carpet was stained (even though it looked brand new)

Review 8:We asked for extra bedding and possibly a cot for the room, since we have 4 children; however we were told we couldn't have a cot and were not even given extra bedding or towels.

Review 9:Close to ferry and marina, and comfortable beds.

Review 10:Communal areas could do with a general update.

Review 11:Great location . Right by the ferry. Lovely view over the water and enjoyed watching the ferries coming in and out.

Review 12:in the morning beds were made, no fresh towels or coffee and mugs. That evening I requested these items and they were immediately delivered but why was this not done in the morning?

Review 13:There was a bad smell walking into the lobby...seemed to permeate the place. Rooms were absolutely basic...and in bad need of basic upkeep...paint peeling from a few spots on the ceiling and walls...no door on the closet. Immediately behind the Inn, between it and the ocean are a few large oil/fuel storage tanks...very industrial atmosphere...not really what you want on a vacation.

Review 14:Every thing else was awful. Utterly awful, the worst place we have everstayed. They are only pretending to be hoteliers and have no idea whatthey are doing. Anything you ask for, towels, toilet paper, chest ofdrawers, anything will be withheld. They blocked fire exits, the airconditioning was broken, the blinds were falling down, the list isendless. I took photos for proof.

Review 15:The diner is retro and the food was good.

Review 16:No elevator and as a family you have a lot of luggage. Some of the wooden furniture old, but parts with tissue/covers all replaced.

Review 17:We had a room with an amazing Ocean view, room 215, personnel was superfriendly, room Equipment was especially for the critical parts like Sofa Cover, bed, towels... new and clean, even the carpet seemed quite new. Microwave and coffemaker. Crispy clean bathroom. I liked the classic diner style resto-area. Price- value- Relation the best in all BC so far for us. Harbour is in 2min walking distance.

Review 18:This hotel is very grubby and generally has an unpleasent smell. Not enough towels, pillows too firm, could not sleep on them. Would not go back

Review 19:The rooms were okayish. Bed seemed clean.

Review 20:This is a family run business and it kind of feels like you're in their living quarters all the time. Once there was someone sleeping on the couch in the lobby. The hotel is old and run down. It needs a tonne of work.

Review 21:The room was clean and the linens were fresh. That's all we really cared about. It was a cheap place in the middle of town to sleep. We had low expectations and they were fulfilled.

Review 22:The hotel is really old and has an unpleasant smell when walking into the building. Plaster was falling off the walls and the doors to the rooms barely closed properly. Was concerned about bed bugs too!

Review 23:The Inn is run down on the outside, in a not-so desirable part of town; parking was strange; my window (second floor)overlooked a rusty roof and the gas tanks. Quite an old building; Although there have been renovations inside, there was still evidence of cracked walls and old light fixtures. The old-style tv didn't work, even after I figured it needed to be plugged in. The small frig wasn't on because other appliances had to be plugged in. There was no free continental breakfast. The reception people could barely speak English.

Review 24:The bed was very comfortable and nice. The room was also fairly clean. Great shower pressure.

Review 25:As a person with a mobility issue, the lack of a elevator made it hard to get to the room. I think any advertisements should state that there is no elevator. The TV remote didn't work and a higher wattage light bulb would be helpful.

Review 26:The bed was comfortable.

Review 27:Not anything I care to comment on, noise levels were not bad, fruit flies would like to visit us if we had some fruit out if you had a car there was free parking so not to much to say.

Review 28:Very close for us to catch the Ferry & within walking distance to my daughter's home, good breakfast available. Also a number of eaters available within walking distance.

Review 29:Parking area is inconvenient.

Review 30:I spent two nights at the Marine Inn - one before and one after a camping trip with friends. The facilities are old-fashioned (e.g., no elevator) but clean and functional. Plenty of hot water in the shower.

Review 31:The staff were friendly, accommodating, and helpful. When wifi on our floor went out, I was offered use of wifi in the restaurant, with fresh pastry and unlimited coffee The restaurant is comfortable and the meals were fantastic. The room was basic, clean, with a view of the harbour; renovations are scheduled, and I'm sure that'll be a timely improvement. A great place to start from on our adventure to discover Powell River.

Review 32:Thrumming sound that started at 5:30. My room mate did not notice it! Not enough light on the stairs. Carpet needs replacing I think based on colour.

Review 33:Eager staff, tiled floor in foyer is awesome. I needed ice and the staff were great in helping with that. Beds a little firm, but I was able to sleep on them. Very close to sea wall walk, quaint stores, lots of restaurants.

Review 34:The carpets were worn and looked dirty. The blinds were falling down. Although I requested a room with a view, the initial room given had a huge air conditioning unit and only a sliver of ocean view. Staff gave me a second room, where the view of the ocean was better (although obstructed by four huge oil tanks and power lines).

Review 35:I liked that it was close to the ferry terminal, close to the sea walk, downtown and a local beach and walking trail. I liked the large windows in the second room I was given facing the ocean. The bed was firm. This hotel has potential but needs an upgrade, especially new carpets.

Review 48:People at front desk had difficulty speaking English.

Review 49:Couldn't be closer to the ferry.

Review 50:Food in the cafeteria expensive

Review 51:Very friendly and good location near the ferry terminal

Review 52:Very outdated - really needs an update to rooms

Review 53:Good air conditioner, close to restaurants

Review 54:It was a bit run down, carpets in the hallways were very old and looked a bit dirty.

Review 55:The bed was comfortable

Review 56:The room was quite small.

Review 57:Good value for money.

Review 58:No elevator to second floor .

Review 59:Very friendly staff and good location. Room was very clean. Charming "old time" dining room.

Review 60:Great bang for your buck.

Review 61:Older hotel in need of TLC There are no elevators

Review 62:The location and views of the ocean and ferry terminal Staff were very helpful and friendly

Review 63:The hotel is close to the marina and has a good diner on the main floor. The rooms are dated but were very clean and the bed was quite comfortable.

Review 64:Room was small. No hair dryer. Door to room not very secure. T.V. volume did work on remote. No elevator?

Review 65:The( $10 )view and location.

Review 66:close to ferry and walking distance to main street shopping very friendly staff .

Review 67:noisy people above us

Review 68:Comfortable bed, pillows, and linens. We paid the extra $10 for a water view room and enjoyed watching the ferry terminal.

Review 69:Truck noise (while window open)

Review 70:Cleanliness Nice side view of the water

Review 71:Very old building, no hair dryer, no cable TV

Review 72:Clean room, friendly staff, nice little café downstairs

Review 73:An older hotel, needs some updating

Review 74:Stairs

Review 75:Price

Review 76:There was no elevator and the stairs going upstairs was very steep. They need new carpets in the hallways.

Review 77:The view from our room was excellent.

Review 78:Close to ferry terminal Close to restaurants

Review 79:The staff were very helpful and the view from our window was spectacular fantastic view of every sunset during our stay

Review 80:None

Review 81:Sleep good with air conditioning and close to everything.

Review 82:Closeness to ferry terminal, since I was travelling by bus and ferry.

Review 83:The carpets were filthy.

Review 84:Good price. Staff was very helpful and nice.

Review 85:Staff was amazing, went out of their way to keep you happy!

Review 86:Very friendly and helpful staff

Review 87:I believe the property was for sale. The hotel clerk was on the phone making payment arrangements to keep the telephone service running. The hallways were filthy and chipping paint everywhere. Our door to our room was loose and felt like it could be pushed open without any effort. Not in a good part of town so that was worrisome. The electrical outlet in the bathroom did not work. There is no elevator. I watched a drug deal going on out the window. The windows looked out on the ferry terminal and oil storage facilities. The general feeling was that the hotel was barely staying open. I think there were only 3 guests in the hotel. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Review 88:It looked like the bathroom floor had been replaced and the carpet in the unit wasn't too bad. The shower was ok.

Review 89:The location wasn't the best. The hallways were dark and dirty. The doors to the rooms were very flimsy and didn't feel secure at all. When we made coffee in the morning we had to put the coffee pot on the floor where the power bar was because there was no where else to plug it in. This trip was a last minute thing, and we should have looked a little harder to find a better room. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Review 90:It was a nice quaint hotel, the features were rustic, the staff were wonderful. Loved the restaurant again rustic, brought back the good ole days, I felt welcome as soon as I walked through the door.

Review 91:No room service, missing coffee, towels ect... Had to ask for service and toiletries. Plug ins didnt work and they gave us an extention chord to use. Parking horrible, cafe expensive for the surroundings. Old looking.

Review 92:The rooms are antiquated, no ironing board, iron or blow dryer. The old building smell was previlant.

Review 93:I liked the location and the restaraunt in the hotel. The staff was very nice and accommodating, couldn't do enough. The beds were clean and comfortable for me.

Review 94:in the washroom, there are no soap, shampoo and conditioner.

Review 95:Staffs are very friendly and generous. Nice location and very silent atmosphere and affordable price!

Review 96:The rooms were a bit tiny and lacked sufficient electrical outlets for plugging in electronic devices. There was no hand towels in the room, only bath towels and face cloths.

Review 97:The staff were excellent to deal with and very friendly. The location was perfect for my purposes. The restaurant food was very good and friendly staff. The rooms were clean and the cleaning staff was efficient. We could walk to the downtown area, the park and trails. The town had the usual shopping amenities required for day to day living. There is lots of restaurants to choose from. Appeared to be lots of night life for the bar scene person. Lots of local art was available for purchase. Seemed to be community supported events at the park. I plan on visiting again to explore more when I have more time.

Review 98:As we were travelling to Powell River just as it was getting dark, we found the Marine Inn very handy to the ferry which made things very easy for us. The staff, particlarly the night clerk that was working that night was very helpful. I really appreciated her consideration of not having to deal with stairs. We would stay there again anytime. Many thanks.

Review 99:I thought the carpeting on the stairs to the 2nd floor was not good. The room was fine, the bed was very good, the remote control for the T.V. didn't work, even after getting a new battery from the from desk.

Review 100:I liked how close it was to the Comox ferry.

Review 101:the stairs! no lift ,not for the elderly
