Reviews for Hotel Cartagena Plaza

Review 1:room was not properly cleaned when arrived. window is very small in the room. AC made the room smell dirty. charged unecessary VAT.

Review 2:Big breakfast buffet, big pool, bathroom seems renovated, friendly staff.

Review 3:Checking in was a nightmare. You turn in passport and wait in the crowd until your name is called. They could not find my booking.com reservation. A four star hotel should not have a huge patch of mold on the bathroom wall.

Review 4:Great location in front of beach. Breakfast buffet was very good and enough variety. Hot shower with good pressure.

Review 5:Oy, where to start. This hotel is an absolute nightmare. The rooms are dingy, the staff was meh, and it's way overpriced. I try not to write bad reviews, but this hotel kind of ruined my trip to Colombia. On top of the poor experience, they sent me to 'their' beach where I proceeded to get ripped off for a few beers and felt threatened by the 'staff'. This place gives Cartagena and Colombia a bad name.

Review 6:laundry service

Review 7:Reception staff unfriendly and unhelpful. There was no hot water and we had to ask 3 times for them to send someone to look at it. Still wasn't fixed afterwards.

Review 8:Well located for access to El Centro and the beach. Great breakfast.

Review 9:swimming pool was so dirty and too small. we were booking the room with bath but they gave us with no bath and no view at all

Review 10:the location and breakfast was great

Review 11:Angie,mthe receptionist did not help calling a taxi, and she refused to give me numbers and i say if she call taxis in cartagena and she say no. Finally another person called a taxi because i insisted in security. The taxi driver said that the taxi station got a call but somebody hang uo. Thatbwas Angie who did not want to help. I noticed when she hang uo and said, there us not taxis. In colombia in better to call secure taxis in order not to get in trouble. They have coffe makers , No coffee in the rooms. No hot water, besides we inform.

Review 12:Breakfast,, but then again the staff is so lazy. So many people serving coffe, but still you have to get your own.

Review 13:Unfortunately, the housekeeping was not adequate. The first night I discovered the sheets had not been changed from the previous occupant so it took awhile to sort out and get comfortable. After the complaints, the housekeeping improved. But the vents in the room were very dirty. Attention to detail is needed. Amenities were acceptable. The pool on the top floor was small and unattractive. This hotel needs some renovations but for the solo traveler it was OK. The beach is close but you are immediately overwhelmed with locals wanting to sell you everything from a massage, an umbrella and chair to rent, food and drink. Just when you want to relax your privacy is invaded by someone rubbing lotion on your body and they don't take no for an answer easily. The beach is over-rated in my opinion. However, lifeguards on the beach were attentive.

Review 14:The view was wonderful. The breakfast excellent and fresh. The Wifi reception was the best I've encountered in Colombia...even on the 9th floor. Close to the beach and a comfortable but modest room. Only a ten minute taxi to city central at minimal cost.

Review 15:I think its time for an update of the facilities. Our bathroom has broken tiles, rusted shower rod, and no exhaust fan so lots of moisture damage.

Review 16:Breakfast was very good, staff were very kind and patient and helpful with nonSpanish speakers. Really the BEST staff!!

Review 17:The front desk woman was very thoughtful and kind as well as the bell man. Everybody treat us really well. My boyfriend and I were really pleased. The breakfast was okay, it can get better. The beds are comfortable althought that i think they are a little old.

Review 18:Big and noisy breakfast area. Got woken up by the cleaning lady at 08.00 the day after New Year's Eve. She wondered how long we wanted to stay.

Review 19:Close to the beach, nice pool, good beach activities windsurfing, kayaking. Cozy room.

Review 20:Almost everything. It is an outdated hotel and probably would not pass any US or European building codes! I recommend to stay somewhere else for the cost.

Review 21:The location is good.

Review 22:I would suggest that the double beds be queen size instead of full. However, the comfort of the beds were fine.

Review 23:The location right on the beach is just great, as well as being at the beginning of Bocagrande. Easy access to new shopping center Plaza de Bocagrande, the shopping district along Avenida San Martin, and the Walled City. Easiness to take any type of public transportation. Breakfast buffet was very good, with a variety of options among eggs, fruits, and freshly squeezed juices each day. Overall, we enjoyed out stay very much and will consider returning in the future.

Review 24:Many points to be critizised: Check-in and check-out process is ridiculous... waiting times of close to 1 hour, though there were only around 20 people around doing check-in/check-out at the same time. With some exceptions the hotel staff is unfriendly, incompetent and sometimes even rude. W-Lan at the room is very slow. Animation team is poor. It lasted three days until a safe was installed in the room. Breakfast is even for (low) colombian standard quite bad. The iron provided by the hotel was so bad that our cloths was damaged. Barmen tried several times to cheat when giving change.

Review 25:The only good things are the pool on the roof, the fresh juices at the breakfast and the location next to the beach. Only few nice and friendly hotel employees.

Review 26:It feels like a holiday hotel. This may be OK for some people , but if you like a bit of luxury this isn't the hotel for you.

Review 27:Location is good, close to the beach and only a 30 minute walk to the old town and Marina, or 5 minutes in a taxi. The hotel is kept very clean, the rooms are basic but good value for the price. The array of food at breakfast will mean that everyone is catered for regardless of taste. It's a good hotel, however if I visit Cartagena again I'll probably try somewhere that is of a higher quality.

Review 28:The hotel had problems finding the Booking reservation. The check-in and check-out procedure, too much bureaucracy that make this procedure take ages!! People assocated to the hotel handling the beach facilities allowing people to smoke marihuana in the area.

Review 29:Location Value paid

Review 30:I paid Cartagena Decameron prices and didn't get what I got at Decameron. Service was okay and the facility is okay as well.

Review 31:Sushi restaurant is only a big joke, horrific joke

Review 32:The flowing from the street on front

Review 33:the fact it was close to the beach

Review 35:El precio no esta malo ,pero un poco mas bajo las ofertas esta bien.gracias.

Review 37:wifi was kinda slow,,,

Review 38:perfect breakfast

Review 39:Too many Cachacos staying in this hotel

Review 58:Location, comfortable bed, fast wifi, mini bar in the room

Review 59:the bathrooms, excessive humidity

Review 60:the location and breakfast

Review 61:breakfast(food from previous nights dinner)

Review 62:location

Review 63:run down facilities, chipped walls in restaurant, dirty fasade of the hotel,

Review 64:/staff, food, room size and space.

Review 65:The pool area.should have more activities for children.

Review 66:Loved the food.

Review 67:Many young people with no adults around them, running in the hallways and screaming until late in the night. The hotel didn't care about that

Review 68:Good housekeeping service and food

Review 69:The air conditioning in the rooms does not work very well and the rooms become hot in the afternoon. A group of 12 of us ate in the sushi restaurant the last night we were there. They were totally not prepared for a group that size and even though we were the only ones in the restaurant, it took almost 1 1/2 hours to get our food. In addition, staff members were talking about our group in the entry way and giving our group slanted glances from across the room. Drinks were taken directly from the buffet in the other room and given to us in this restaurant. Food was cold. Overall a very poor experience in the restaurant. I would not recommend eating there ever again.

Review 70:I really enjoyed the location. Very convenient walk to the beach across the street and a short 5 minute cab ride to the old city. Nice that the windows can open to a beautiful ocean view. I had a great conversation in english with a young man who was the head of housekeeping. Very polite and concerned about my stay. Wanted to make sure everything was perfect. He really made me feel special and treated me well. Overall a good value and pleasant stay.

Review 71:Old hotel overall but renovations are ongoing. A few safety hazards such as a broken blowdryer in the bathroom that displays all of its electrical wiring. The hotel's main restaurant is overpriced for the cafeteria food it serves. Best pop in to one of the many local restaurants. The staff is not bilingual, better prepare your Spanish diccionario. Good location but the beach across the street is particularly favored by vendors. Best stroll along the beach a little further to avoid this annoyance. Longest I've ever had to wait for elevators. Not sure they're adequate to a hotel this size. The waiting time also applies to checkin and checkout which take close to 30mins, queuing aside.

Review 72:The bedding and room overall are rather comfortable. The staff seems willingly there to help and make you enjoy your stay. The hotel location is perfect.

Review 73:Lots of noise and the elevators are slow.

Review 74:Service was great. Employees went out of their way to make one feel comfortable. Good breakfast, although it could benefit from more variety. The location was great!

Review 75:They recommended i hire their shuttle services to pick me up at the airport to save money at 17.80 dollars - when I arrived, I found out the local taxis charges 17 colombian pesos - more than half of price. When I told the lady in charge of these services, she told me that that is what the hotel charges - although she recommended i take the shuttle, that by the way was a regular taxi. I will never stay in this hotel again

Review 76:The bed was very confortable - the view was nice

Review 77:Wifi was not working well since the first day we arrived, keep complaining to the staff for 3 days and nobody fix it and no feedback. Just worked in our last day of stay after we complain to the manager, but the speed is very slow.

Review 78:Big clear room, breakfast, location is good, some cafe shop and fast food arround.

Review 79:Vendos, Vendors Vendors annoying vendors. But that is everywhere in Cartagena.

Review 80:This is my 4th time staying at the hotel. It is accross from the beach and close to everything. A little old but the room is discent and the included breakfast has agood selection, quality is OK.

Review 81:This hotel has the most ridiculous rules that are all over the place. I was there with my girlfriend who showed up and they wanted me to pay 16% VAT taxes because she was Colombian. The reservation was mine. I didn't do it at the Millenium nor the Hilton hotels prior to staying at this location. I had two of my friends who I met at the Hilton stop in with me who is male and we went to the Pool and hung out there for the day. The bellboys didn't stop them from entering with me. The next day, my employee who works for me in Colombia came to the Hotel with me to go through reports and she was stopped dead in her tracks with me and I was told tgat I had to pay 60,000 pesos so that she could visit my room. I told them who she was and that she was my employee. They still did not believe me and said that they were enforcing the policy. I asked them why didn't they stop me with the other two guys and they said that men were ok to visit. I was furious. The first morning that I arrived for breakfast, they gave me a bill. It was for 30,000 pesos for breakfast. I was the only one given this as it's a breakfast included deal. I had to fight with them to take it off. I will never stay there again.

Review 82:the location next to beaches and their pool

Review 83:The reservation we made by booking.com was not found on the hotel system when we arrived. The price offered by booking.com was not honored and we had to pay twice the quotation.

Review 84:They checked-in us very fast after our arrival despite no reservation was found.

Review 85:Poor service, several days the room not cleaned until 5/6pm. no hot water before 8:30am, even after complaining each day. Rooms quite shabby and basic for a presumably 4* hotel.

Review 86:nice view

Review 87:Unfriendly staff (reception desk) Rooms are too old (need renewal) Bathrooms are disgusting

Review 88:Close to the beach Restaurant is excellent

Review 89:it is a very old hotel it need to be redecorated

Review 90:ubication

Review 91:very slow staff. which results in very slow check in.

Review 92:big rooms

Review 93:It doesn't exist an available space in the beach, is not enough to the hosted.

Review 94:The price and the location

Review 95:They allow too many people that are not guest in the pool, where there is not a single umbrella or shade.

Review 96:Location perhaps
