Review 1：Room smelled like a combination of lysol & mildew.

Review 2：Staff was extremely helpful, courteous & professional. Matthew on the beach hardest working guy in Cartagena. Fernando in the restaurant was friendly and good server.

Review 3：Check-in : The room was not ready until 5 pm. this is unacceptable for a 5 start hotel. Gym: Poor conditions. Towels: Took one hour to bring another set of towels. They only put one set for 3 people. Checkout. : problems with local tax regulations.

Review 5：Thankfully we were in the hotel for only one night as it disappointingly felt like a three star beach package holiday hotel. Breakfast buffet was chaotic; more like a cafeteria. The hotel was in need of renovation. It was poor value for money.

Review 9：The swimingpool was overcrowded and in one day they were doing some construction near by (a lot of noise), but they stop when we complained. The dishes from the restaurant in the swimingpool were poor in terms of quantity, quality and presentation (5 star should do much better)

Review 10：The gardens inside the hotel transmit tranquility and have a lot of different animals. The breakfast is very complete and different everyday. All the staff were very friendly and helpfull. Very good price quality.

Review 11：Our room was noisy, because we had a door in our room to the adjacent room. That was badly sound isolated, so we could literally hear what the people in that room were saying. The only bad experience was the New Years Eve party around the pool. The show itself was very nice, but you can't let people wait 45 minutes in queue to get their food. The buffet should be open from the start of the party and not waiting till eveybody is in, which was causing the huge queues.

Review 12：The pool was very nice. Nice playground for children. The elevator, manned by a lift boy, is fun. Good breakfast!

Review 13：Service was very slow and poor Check in and check out process was tedious Food service was extremely slow. Over an hour to get lunch. 30 minutes to get a glass of wine at the sushi bar even though there were only a few people there. Phone ringing in hallway was disturbing. Pool area was crowded. Not enough seats to accommodate.

Review 16：The Caribe in Bocagrande is the flagship, the grand old lady among the hotels in Cartagena. Its atmosphere of a traditional Grand Hotel is unique.

Review 17：Didn't have private beach and the public vendors were all over us ! Hard to relax! Hotel El Caribe should have a more private beach setting for those who want to enjoy the beach without being "hassled" and abruptly chased by public vendors. on our first day at the beach we didn't know that el caribe hotel had Free white umbrella's with free chairs for hotel guests.,, so we had to pay for Umbrella , chairs etc,, plus people coming selling things every 5 min! Could security help with this? Thanks and please don't be fooled by the public vendors that are waiting outside the beach entrance ,, they are not part of the hotel! Ask for Mateo with the white t-shirt and hotel el Caribe logo! Good luck!

Review 19：The internet connection was OK in the room but non existing sometimes in the pool. There are some sections in the hotel that need a bit of maintenance and the hotel doesn´t have sunbeds on the beach.

Review 20：The room was very nice and clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The hotel has beautiful gardens, a very nice swimming pool, but the breakfast is the best!

Review 21：We had one unpleasant experience. They needed to perform some little reparations, and never let us know in advanced, so we returned from lunch and they we had to wait to be able to enter into our room. The next day they wanted to continue with the works, and tried to enter our room without knocking.

Review 23：The main part of the old colonial hotel is interesting, the other two wings look like a hospital. The rooms and plumbing leave a lot to be desired in a hotel these days. The hot water is luke warm to cold and runs out quickly. Providing a Hot shower is basic to any hotel in my book. There are better choices for a "beach" hotel in Cartegena.

Review 25：The only problem is the beach is unusable with the hawkers and there's mo hotel staff to set up the chairs and umbrellas and shoo them away. Just stay on the property. It's lovely.

Review 26：Old interior furnishing, rooms need fixing. New buildings' design did not follow the old style, now it looks very mixed, one needs to take many stairs to the lobby area, however the lush green garden makes up for the shortcomings.

Review 30：One security gaurd and the guy in charge of the bell desk was very rude, and aggressive. I had a guest come over to visit, and they were very aggressive and questioning. He was not allowed to go to the room. I have never stayed in a hotel were a paying guest cannot bring anyone in to their own room. This is very archaic, and the hotel should really revisit this. I also feel the security gaurd and bell desk mgr, need a cultural sensitivity training. Were very discriminatory against gay people. Would not stay here again

Review 32：The hotel canceled our reservations one day before the arrived date, on December 30. I had a very bad time and wasted a lot of vacation time to convince the staff to keep my room. The person responsible for the reservation department avoid me on telephone and personally. Very untrustful during the seasons. Very bad Wifi Breakfast don't value the price

Review 34：On arrival, we were told that the Christmas dinner did not need a reservation, but when we arrived at the restaurant on the 24th we were told that we did need a reservation. Management did not care if we got to eat or not, said it was a communications issue and the restaurant supervisor did not care and walked off after telling us the restaurant did not have any spare tables. security followed us frequently when we walked into the lobby from the beach or town. 6500 pesos a day per person for accident insurance, did not see this until check out and they told us it was in the Booking reservation forms and not their issue, we should have known about it

Review 39：I presume the 5* rating is given for the quantity of facilities e.g. gym, sauna, solarium, games room, mini golf etc and not for the quality of the hotel. The air-con is quite old and only the temperature can be adjusted but not the fan speed. The bath had half a dozen chips in the enamel and needs replacing. The water was luke-warm so no hot shower. The wifi was extremely slow at the times when it actually worked. The quality of the food was very average and certain menu items were not available. Not what I expect if I’m paying a 5* star price! Checking in was painful. I had to e-mail the reception my reservation confirmation because they couldn’t find our booking. And the woman who was checking us in really needs to go on a customer relationship management course. On the day we were departing we were granted a later check out time. When we went to get our bags from the room we found that both our electronic room keys had been disabled, before the agreed check out time. Disappointing.

Ceilings are messy Facilities are just normal so why pay 250$US per night Worth max 150$ per night not more because of location and the historical status of the hotel yet it's not as beautiful and colonial than El Prado in Barranquilla....really there's cheaper better options in Bocagrande. Not going back unless I have a minimum 50% discount!

Review 45：The staff worry more about getting through their ridiculous bureaucracy than seeking to attend the client's interests. It ends up coming off as if they're constantly expecting you to skip on the check, even though they have your credit card as guarantee. You need "permission" to leave the parking lot with your car. We had some clients who were staying at the hotel and had an early flight. Even though the hotel had my company's credit card on file and we are registered with the hotel, I had to waste 20' paying the bill and getting the invoice properly made, while my car was in the middle of the driveway (they don't have enough space for a car to wait and another to pass beside it, and the valet guy was simply not there), and my clients were eager to leave since they were tight for time for their flight.

Review 47：this 5 star hotel is located at Bocagrande in Cartagena. The staff welcomes you as if you are a long lost family member, you feel at home right from the start. within the hotel you find a beautiful garden with all kind of trees for the younger (and older) ones there are tags placed near the trees with the names. there are even some deer running around. Great swimming pool with coctailbar. Exellent breakfast buffet with live cooking. We (2 grandparents with 2 grandchildren) really enjoyed our stay here.

Review 88：The builging complex is very nice and different from what you can findin this area. It was one of the first grand hotels in Cartagena, soalmost everybody in the city knows it. It also has a beautiful tropicalinside garden that helps you relax. The pool and the pool area are alsovery good. It has a private entrance on the beach and complementarychairs, but not sunbeds (you have to pay about 5 usd a day for it),although the beach is not private.There is no nice beach or sea inCartagena (it is written almost everywhere), so I recommend going to theIslas Rosario for a day trip, or stay one night on the Islands.

Review 106：The racist attitude of the personnel: my partner is half white/blackand could pass for a Colombian. As a result every time he wanted toenter the hotel he was asked to show his hotel id in an agressive way(and in Spanish, which he doesn't speak). White people like myselfcould walk in and out without a single question asked. Unacceptable inthe 21st century and a practice we never encountered in any other hotelwe stayed in in Colombia.
