Review 1：Don't like large pre authorization on my visa. Breakfast way overpriced in my opinion. Hotel rather pretentious for very average double hotel room. No smaller rooms available for 1 person.

Review 3：Ill Informed Desk Clerk; Told us, on the phone, breakfast was included in the price of the room. The Breakfast staff said it was not. Insufficient Bath Towels. One per person is not enough. Balcony room with view of traffic and McDonald's is not attractive. The hotel needs a coffee shop. Some repairs needed in Room 223 (Items in the bathroom loose on the wall) Unpleasant to be asked to leave the Lounge because it was to be used as an extension of the dining room

Review 4：The convenience of staying in the same Hotel that we had booked for Dinner. Most of the services and facilities are what one would expect and were done well at this Hotel

Review 13：Arrived early for check-in and room want ready. As I just finished walking to the hotel from down the island highway, I was hoping to get cleaned up in the change room of the indoor pool area. I wasn't allowed acces (from supervisor) and instead was given a towel and advised I could clean up using the tap in the lobby washroom. Even the front desk attendant looked at me with apologetic eyes knowing the supervisor made a mistake. Poor customer service. Poor decision making. Poor training.

Review 14：The carpet had stains heated pool wasnt heated, first time ever i had to put a deposit down AND pay for the room at check in then had to wait a week to get the deposit back. You would think this place would be more high end and clean as the entrance was nice but once get in your room it looks like a cheap motel. First and last time i stay there. I do not recommend.

Review 15：We found the entire atmosphere of the Grand Hotel to be elegant, warm and inviting. My husband was very impressed with scotch selection (he belongs to a Scotch tasting club) and was blown away by the choices and the knowledge of the staff.

Review 18：Very disappointed - freezing cold indoor pool - so bad we couldn't even stay in it. Hotel near busy intersection - no room view, etc. Very overpriced for a basic, dated room with a clunky old tube tv. Big disappointment and waste of money. For the money, expected much better.

Review 22：The balcony rails covered in spider webs and debris caught in the webs. The Crack in the bathroom tile floor grazed my toe. Dirty hallway mirror and doors and marked up walls. The hotel grounds view from the balcony was in disarray, dying plants and trees, garbage bin area atrocious.

Review 26：I didn't feel the quality of the rooms was on par with other hotels I have stayed at within the same price point. The room was pretty dated and the bed and pillows were very uncomfortable.

Review 28：I wasn't offered any continental breakfast, so I assumed one was not included. At $175 per night some type of food or snack should be included. Also, the 1990's TV doesn't cut it in 2015. I haven't seen a hotel with a small tube tv in several years.

Review 29：The decor of the hotel is beautiful, as are its surroundings; it felt very tranquil. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and quite large.

Review 30：I started to iron a white linen blouse and saw a small spot of something that came from the iron, so ironed a jacket that needed to be washed anyway, and the dirt that came from the iron was disgusting !The room was not very clean...hair in the sink and the rug looked as if it had not been vacuumed.

The front desk woman could have been a robot, she didn't offer me the wifi, she never made eye contact when she checked me in or out, lectured me on the fact that it a NO SMOKING hotel and pets are NOT allowed. I had no pets and I've never smoked in my life. The worst part about the stay though was the beds, they were horrible. The pillows are the cheapest, and if you suffer any kind of back pain this is NOT the hotel for you.

Review 37：For such a large room one would expect a larger bed. Proportionately the room looked odd. Pillows were not comfortable, and I was glad I brought my own. Old dishes found on patio. No heat in bathroom. The bedside lights were too bright. A lamp is much nicer, and softer lighting.

Was a very good rate, and it exceeded other hotels in the same price range. I stay in Nanaimo regularly at xmas and would definitely choose this hotel over others in the price range I paid.

Review 48：The perception in the marketing is that this is a high class hotel with a vintage feel. The lobby is of that nature but thats where it ends. Low end tv's, furniture, fixtures, etc. This should be priced lower as it is comparable to a budget hotel.
