Reviews for Buccaneer Inn
Review 1:Nothing.It was like Home.
Review 2:Great Value. 1 Bedroom and Full Kitchen.Comfortable and Great location close to Ferries and City.Nice to find Sodas and water in the Fridge and Snacks on the Table. Nice Touch.
Review 3:A bit out of downtown but not bad. This place would be excellent if catching an early morning ferry to Horseshoe Bay.
Review 4:Friendly staff; clean rooms, comfortable sitting area and very comfortable bed. Good kitchen facility (although we didn't use it). Good selection of cable tv channels and good wifi reception.
Review 5:The motel was very close to both very BC ferries and also the location where our wedding reception was planned to be held. It was well within walking distance along a pretty walkway.
Review 6:Shower head was really low even for me who is only 6/5. Weather stripping could be applied around the door to keep drafts from coming in.
Review 7:Although it is old it was very well kept and comfortable.
Review 8:Location was convenient, and scenic. The suite was comfortable , bed and linens very good. Although the building was older, it was well maintained and super clean.
Review 9:Price too high compared to other places, without breakfast and in need of renovation.
Review 10:friendly staff and great location close to harbour. Also nice to have separate living room area so kids could sleep and my wife and I watched television
Review 11:For three adults the space was very tight. Two of us have sleep issues so the extreme traffic noise was a real problem. We would not likely stay there again.
Review 12:The property was clean and we'll appointed. The beds were great. Supplies in the bathroom were ample.
Review 13:The traffic in this location can be noisy at night .
Review 14:No pets allowed! Staff were very friendly and helpful with information on things to do in and around Nanaimo and area. Very clean property all around! Location was good and easy to get around the city from by car and walking!
Review 15:I little more expensive that I wanted but still worth it
Review 16:I loved this place ! Came with my parents, small and cozy suite, super clean and with a sea view, only 10 min from the ferry so perfect cuz I didn't bring a car. I checked out at 11am but the host was super nice in letting me leave our luggage on the reception and go with my parents to another beach before taking off. Super recommended ! Gonna come back here with my hubby, sister and her family !
Review 17:Easy to find. In a very pretty area. Convenient to several "destinations" on the island. The staff was friendly and helpful. In fact a quick chat at check-in about my short 2 day stay led me to change and significantly improve my itinerary. I would definitely stay here again.
Review 18:lovely owners made us very welcome, great location overlooking marina, spacious accommodation, walk to restaurants, will definitely stay again if lucky enough to be in the area
Review 19:Excellent location for BC Ferry and very friendly, helpful staff. Facilities in suite were all you needed for a few days stay, with well equipped kitchen
Review 20:Buses infrequent and we were unable to hire a vehicle at reasonable cost..so we walked alot
Review 21:Beds are really comfortable.staff friendly and obliging. Beautiful views of harbour and very nice harbour walks to downtown.
Review 22:The WiFi was very weak and kept losing the connection. The decor could use some splashes of colour to really add a homey inviting atmosphere. Other than that no complaints.
Review 23:Older motel but very clean and beds were amazing for comfortable sleep. Like having kitchen facilities and well stocked for having meals and liked the stocked fridge and pay as you use.
Review 24:Car park is a bit tight especially if you have a full size car. Out of town so a reasonable walk if you don't want to drive.
Review 25:Clean tidy motel. Friendly staff.
Review 26:The Buccaneer is perfectly located for marina access, with decent kitchenette facilities. I'm always impressed by how the owners always remember us from our occasional visits in the past. On this visit, we made use of their laundry, which was a real bonus!
Review 27:We arrived quite early but were made to feel at home by the owner. The lacation of the hotel not far from the ferry terminal is great. The accomodations are spotlessly clean and comfortable with everthing we needed for an enjoyable stay.
Review 28:All rooms are up stairs (minimum 7). Tough if luggage is heavy or legs are weak. Thought it would be noisy due to location - but it WAS NOT. NO air conditioning - old hotel. Was a VERY HOT weekend.
Review 29:Located very close to the ferry terminal, easy access to downtown and the main highway to shopping etc, Across the road to Marina for fishing boat rental, pubs and restaurants 5 minute walk. Very well kept older facility, clean and proud of it.
Review 30:Cleaning staff a little over zealous. Be sure to use your Do Not Disturb sign if you don't want your space unnecessarily cleaned and tidied while you are out.
Review 31:Location, family run, friendly, super clean.
Review 32:Restaurants are an easy walk and right on the waterfront of a small marina. Rooms were well kept. Beds were very comfortable (and I can say that because the night before in Vancouver, I was at the Westin). This is not a chain hotel by any means, but no worries to stay here. I would come back again. Staff were very friendly and helpful
Review 33:They were to anti smoking.there were non smoking sings everywhere even in the car park.there was room for a table with a ash tray on it. We did respect there rules.
Review 34:It was clean. Comfortable. And well kited out for cooking.
Review 35:The free WiFi was very helpful, though a tad spotty depending on where you were in the room. Still, hard to complain.
Review 36:The location and amenities were exactly what we needed. We needed to stay a full week, so having the kitchen facilities, and great local information from the staff, were a great help.
Review 37:I was on crutches at the time, so I found climbing the stairs a bit challenging - but they were upfront about that .... and I knew that going in.
Review 38:Extremely comfortable bed!
Review 39:Clean, friendly with added charm of flowers and a picnic area. The location was central to everything Naniamo has to offer. A walk to the downtown area and the marina was easy and pleasant. The traffic noise from the roadway was barely noticable and only short periods with some ferry traffic. We would definitely stay here again.
Review 40:No gym or swimming pool, no restaurant on-site, no elevator. It's an older wood-frame building so the soundproofing isn't as good as in a concrete one. The shared outside balcony walkway is old plywood and it was filled with puddles from the rain.
Review 41:Great ferry location, clean and pretty studio suite (ours had a water view). Good bed, decent mini-kitchen. Friendly reception.
Review 42:A bit noisy room to room, especially the water pipes in the morning.
Review 43:Location perfect for meeting or catching ferry as within walking distance. Couple of pub/restaurants also within walking distance. Accommodation basic but clean. Good for one night stay.
Review 44:Had to carry all our suitcases up a very long flight of stairs to reach the second floor, which was difficult for two 70+ people. Photos were deceiving; not directly on the water but across a very busy street.
Review 45:The bed was super comfortable. Only did a quick overnight so didn't use the kitchen, but it looked more than adequate.
Review 46:Second floor stairs. Ilike ground floor, however, got a better view of the Ocean.
Review 47:Love the location and the owners. They are very hospitable and being right on the ocean is great. Watch the float planes come in and out.
Review 48:How the hotel we stayed at in Vancouver afterwards didn't even compare to how great this one was!
Review 49:Bed was super comfy and the room was very quiet. They had all the little things covered like super soft robes and books about Vancouver Island to read, plus everything you could need in a kitchen. They also had full cans of pop & bottles of water in the fridge, and full size chocolate bars & granola bars perfectly reasonable prices, which is very convenient when you've been travelling with no time to stop. Those kinds of things are what take a stay to the next level :)
Review 50:The heater was rather weak. It took few hours to warm up the room.
Review 51:Staff was friendly and very helpful, the room was clean, the kitchenette had all we needed. Located near the ferry terminal which is perfect if you just need to spend a night before leaving the iceland.
Review 52:I love older character hotels, and this met our need perfectly. Did not actually meet staff because of the lateness of our arrival and early departure, but they were very accomodating. Loved the room.
Review 53:From the moment we arrived, very friendly welcome the clean and comfortable apartment, our 2 night stay at the Buccaneer inn was brilliant, I would defenetly stay there again and recommend to anyone wishing to stay in a great location for views, parks, walks and short walk into town, great wee journey up the coast and so handy for the ferry terminal. The cleanliness was second to none, beds were so comfy. The owners were so friendly, gave us a great amount of information for in and around Nanaimo. All in all our stay at the Buccaneer inn was brilliant, thank you Dave and Marlene
Review 54:A little far from the town centre or shopping.
Review 55:We were unexpectedly given a lovely one bedroom apartment with full kitchen facilities and were able prepare a meal which was nice after a few weeks on the road having to eat take out. The staff were friendly and relaxed. Convenient to Ferry. Definitely value for money
Review 56:The Bucanner Inn had its own kind of charm. The room was cozy and the kitchen facilities were the best we saw on our trip! The owners were very helpful and friendly and you could tell they took very good care of the property! There were a lot of small extra touches that made our start very enjoyable. We would definitely return!
Review 57:loved it here. It was so quiet and comfortable. There were many extra special details in the room. I was nervous about it being beside the main road but it wasn't noisy. would definitely stay here again and recommend it to people.
Review 58:Very clean, nice sized rooms with good kitchen and free parking facilities. Ideally located for BC Ferry terminal and for onward travel to the north of the island. Located a little way out of town centre so a quiet location. Very comfy beds.
Review 59:A bit of traffic noise.
Review 60:Comfortable beds. Windows open for fresh, sea air. Kitchenette was well supplied with cooking utensils. Very convenient to the Ferry.
Review 61:We had brought luggage bags for our cruise that we had hoped to leave in the car for our cruise, and a small overnight bag for our stay on the island. While we were grateful for our host's honesty regarding concern for a potential car break-in (based on a history of such in the area), it was disappointing that we had to lug our cumbersome luggage up the stairs to our room. That was the only downside (and a rather minor issue at that) to a wonderful stay at the Buccaneer Inn.
Review 62:We have paid the same price for shabby, cramped, and depressing motel rooms in other cities. The place had ample everything: space, rooms, closets. I was so pleased that I could curl up in the living room at night and read or watch TV for a couple of hours while my husband slept undisturbed in the bedroom. I was very pleased and would definitely return.
Review 63:Sofa should be cleaned(really awful smell on armrest covers and cushions ) Should have more chairs for table Rooms stuffy at night( had to use fan, no air cond.) Bbq. grill was in pieces ( chrome was coming off and grids all broken)
Review 64:Staff was accommodating Kitchenette was handy(fridge a bit small) Very close to ferry (2 blocks) Comfy bed(other bed start. to sag ) Very Clean room overall
Review 65:On busy main road, very close to port. Had not realised it was quite so far from Nanaimo centre, took a good 30mins walk, although you can get a local bus as well.
Review 66:Much bigger than expected with 2 double beds and a separate lounge/kitchen area. Very clean with well stocked kitchen and friendly staff.
Review 67:Just beside the ferry terminal, the motel was extremely clean and well equipped, with plenty of room to spread our luggage around! Also had a very comprehensive file of tourist information and advice
Review 68:Handy to ferry, easy parking. rooms nicely updated, well equipped for our overnight stay. Black out curtains on windows, lovely as it was a beautiful sunny day that we woke up to. Staff were very good.
Review 69:We booked the Buccaneer for its location and the reviews for two nights. The location is on a fairly busy street close to the ferry to Vancouver. At night the traffic is not too bad. The first two nights we stayed in one of their bigger rooms with kitchenette. Nothing fancy, but clean and practical. We added two nights to it, but only the smaller room was left. Still coffee and tea maker, tv and fridge. Overall good beds, the right atmosphere, across from the seawall, helpful and friendly staff and for every room a place to sit outside. Would certainly stay here again!
Review 70:The sofa bed was not working so one of the group had to sleep on the couch, which was comfortable
Review 71:It's location, the cleanliness and the setup of the room
Review 72:Internet could have been better and maybe a larger TV screen - kind of expected in this day and age. Isolated to our room perhaps, bathroom exhaust was not working or not there
Review 73:Beds were comfortable. Liked the separate sitting room. Staff was friendly. Overall good experience
Review 74:Friendly staff. All kitchen equipment provided.
Review 75:Kinda small. Not much room to move around especially with the hide-a-bed out.
