Reviews for Hotel Alpenruh

Review 1:To us, when travelling, it is more than just the facilities, it is the service. No matter how beautiful the surroundings are, if the service is not good, then we will not stay again. We felt that the staff at this hotel just 'tolerated' the guests, and were not in any way keen to offer anything more to make our stay enjoyable and memorable. Requests for information about the town were met with disinterest and actually no knowledge. Despite being clean, comfortable yet basic, we will not stay here again because of the disinterested staff. Ate one meal at the restaurant, 3 meals ordered, only 2 turned up, and with one of these with only half the ingredients. Loads of excuses, still charged full price with no attempt to compensate. It goes on. Just poor service. Plenty of other places to stay next time! It's ALL about service.

Review 2:Very basic rooms for the price. Outstanding views. Location was actually great for access to the ski lift, but the fact that the hotel did not provide any help with moving luggage from train station at the other end of town, leads us to rate the location as less than we would normally. Dragging 4 suitcases 700m through snow is a challenge!

Review 3:The rooms have everything you need and often a balcony but can be a little compact.

Review 4:Our second stay at the Alpenruh, as good as our first many years ago. Great staff and good food. The terrace is a great spot for lunch and some traditional Swiss food.

Review 5:The staff were very helpful. We had dinner there as well, which also was very good.

Review 6:We had a room with a mountain view. Never stayed anywhere with a more gorgeous view. The hotel was very nice and in a perfect location, right next to the Gondolas that delivered us to Murren and that takes you to Piz Gloria where a James Bond movie was filmed.

Review 7:Not much!

Review 8:Welcome drinks on arrival (free gluwein) although not always the case - we got lucky as local function on! Amazing views from the room with balcony! Great wifi, friendly staff, delicious food in hotel restaurant !! And option for breakfast up chairlift in Schilthorn is the best (albeit you must pay the hefty fee to get up to your breakfast) Murren itself was amazing quaint little alpine village we loved!

Review 9:This hotel was amazing! The view from our room was beautiful, the staff was very friendly, and the location was very convenient. I would definitely recommend it!

Review 10:We got a superior room with balcony and it was the most beautiful room we've had in all our travels. The view was stunning of the Jungfrau, the Eiger, and the Monch. The balcony was a wraparound with tables and chairs and completely private. Beds were really comfortable. Will definitely be back as soon as possible. Excellent location, too.

Review 11:When they say the room is small they mean SMALL!

Review 12:Got there late and left early so not a lot of time there but friendly staff. Facilities were ok - nothing to note good or bad really - a very neutral experience. We arrived after 9:00 pm and it is a VERY dark walk from the train station ( not the hotels fault). Woke up to a phenomenal view out our window / balcony in the morning!! Great area, so much to explore, see and do!

Review 13:They say they have laundry facilities. It is in a hotel about a 5 minute walk away. It's not in Hotel Alpenruh.

Review 14:Staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a very nice room for us and our 25 year old son. It worked well. View is AMAZING!

Review 15:Our room did not have a very nice view.

Review 16:The town was beautiful. This was furthest from the train station but close the the access to the Shilthorn. The breakfast was good.

Review 17:They said it would be a double bed however it was two singles pushed together. I fell down the crack!!

Review 18:This is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in. Friendly and helpful staff and amazing food.

Review 19:Our room was on the first floor and window was directly in line with people walking to and from the cable station. There was no privacy unless we closed the window and curtain. Very uncomfortable on the warm evenings. We probably got the worst room in the hotel and definitely was not worth the money.

Review 20:Restaurant and service was very good. Proximity to cable station was good except for above.

Review 21:Far from Murren staion, but it takes only 10~15mins. on the way to hotel, we can look around the town. so it was okay.

Review 22:Just next to schilthorn staion!!

Review 23:The wood on the balcony is getting old and should be replaced soon. My daughter did not feel safe out there.

Review 24:incredible views from our balcony; fantastic breakfast with a wide variety of offerings, dinners are also superb, and excellent location

Review 25:One evening we experienced extremely unwelcoming service in the restaurant. We were ubtuptly asked to sit outside as 'apparently' there were no tables inside. The member of staff was very unfriendly and quite loudly embarrassed us in front of the other diners. We didn't realise we had to book to receive a friendly service! After waiting for 10 minutes for a menu with the waiter ignoring us, we decided to leave and go elsewhere. On the other nights the service was fine, so I can only assume it was this one male waiter who wasn't very friendly! The room was very hot, a fan would be nice.

Review 26:Location was excellent and room was lovely and clean. Reception staff very friendly.

Review 27:More than 10 minutes walk from the train station. Why no free transportation service?

Review 28:Perfect location to take cable car to Schilthorn. And nice view. The day we arrived , it was strongly cloudy and we could not see anything at Schilthorn. But next day morning, it became sun shine and we went again to see beautiful mountain scene.

Review 29:Had a wonderful balcony overlooking the mountains. That is what we were paying for...room itself was neat and clean but nothing particularly noteworthy. Breakfast was very good and free voucher for Piz Gloria brunch buffet was great...but still have to pay to get there which you should do anyway. Convieniently located lto the trams up to Piz Gloria and down to the vally floor.

Review 30:Some of breakfast staff clearly do not like english people. Iron/ironing board not allowed in rooms "due to health and safety" !! This leads to a huge expense if ironing is required?? This sounds like a scheme.

Review 31:Views Receptionists brilliant and very helpful

Review 32:The only thing that bothered us was on our 2nd night we had a late dinner and arrived in the hotel restaurant 15-20 minutes before the kitchen closed. Since we were just getting fondue we figured that it wouldn't be too much trouble. Our waiters' attitude was pretty snobby and off putting but we made the best of it. The other waiter was friendly and pleasant. We did our best to finish up before the restaurant closed at 10 so they didn't have to work late. The food was fantastic but I would say our waiters attitude made it a less than pleasant meal.

Review 33:For us this was a great place to stay while touring around Europe. After being in a couple big cities the quiet of Murren was perfect and the hotel staff and owners were great. The rooms had all we needed for our backpacking trip.

Review 34:We stayed here in 2002 and hoped to see the Eiger,Monc and Jungfraus without cloud. Our room view was spectacular. We watched the sun rise over the Eiger. We didn't realize that there were new owners (since 2007) and the Alpenrhu is even better. Staff excellent. Food amazing.

Review 35:There is nothing we did not like about our stay at the Alpenruh. Our room was clean, comfortable and spacious. The staff (hotel and restaurant) absolutely excellent: kind, professional, knowledgeable. From our balcony, we could almost touch the Alps! Highly recommend this hotel -- and a trip to Murren. (We visited in May, the off-season. Snow blanketed the mountains the day before, but we spent the next 2 days walking walked around the village in shirtsleeves)

Review 36:We had one waiter in the restaurant on a couple of occasions that was efficient but really unfriendly

Review 37:We had a family room which was very spacious, clean and functional. The beds were a bit hard but it certainly didn't hinder my sleep. The hotel desk staff were extremely nice and helpful

Review 38:The bathroom is the smallest one can ever think of

Review 39:the suana facility was very good. Just book the timming in advance and the suana is all for you for the time booked.

Review 40:Nothing to criticise.....

Review 41:Perfect location in Murren - staff very welcoming and helpful in every way. Excellent food in restaurant. Superb views, easy access to skiing and ski back to Hotel in good conditions. Make the most of the 007 Breakfast on the Schilthorn if available - it's excellent....

Review 42:Restaurant staff af night could be friendlier

Review 43:Amazing views , excellent food in reataurant, extensive breakfast and private sauna! A dream! Internet is very fast!

Review 44:The whole hotel was older compared to other places in Mürren. Sauna was old. Higher price.

Review 45:Beautiful mountain views, close to the ski lift for Mürren. Ski storage. Staff was nice and helpful. Good free breakfast

Review 46:Any

Review 47:- Excellent view from my room; - Very close to the station to Schilthorn; - Having breakfast in Piz Gloria; - Enjoying Sonna in hotel; - Good breakfast.

Review 48:Extremely noisy at night as the winds were blowing the partions on the balcony back and forth all night. We tried unsuccessfully to figure out how to secure them so they wouldn't bang. The second night had no winds and all was quiet so we could sleep. But still being up at 3am the night before really did us in. Beware if you happen to be there when it is windy.

Review 49:Located right next to the canle car station. Extremely important since we arrived sfter dark and had no clue where to go. View from room was good. Water pressure and temp in the bathroom was awesome. Not a single problem with speed or connectedness for WiFi.

Review 50:Wifi isn't the best. But we are vacationing!

Review 51:Views are superb! Very close to lift to Schilthorn. We have been here before, we will go back again. Breakfast choices are very good. Restaurant food excellent as well.

Review 52:The location at the cable car end of the village was very handy The restaurant in the hotel was excellent - try the afternoon tea Views from the room balcony were stunning

Review 53:WiFi is not available in all rooms. Some rooms in the rear end does not have WiFi.

Review 54:Location of the hotel is great and the view of mountain from the room is fantastic! Room is very clean and comfortable!

Review 55:We only stayed three days and would have liked to stay longer.

Review 56:The stay was wonderful. The location for hiking, the lift and to other places to eat was fabulous. We enjoyed the sauna. Everything was clean and well maintained.

Review 57:the free sauna was just excellent, reserving in advance allowed private sessions for one hour most excellent breakfast included, delicious coffee, great cheeses and breads, warm food too - very impressive.

Review 58:We arrived late and most of this small town was closed. But the front desk clerked arranged for their kitchen to stay open to prepare dinner for us. The food and service was wonderful. The rooms were charming, clean and comfortable. My in law's room had a view of the alps that was spectacular! After booking we exchanged a number of emails regarding special arrangements needed for my father in law and they were very accommodating. Hotel Alpenruh is a gem perched on a cliff overlooking the Swiss Alps. It is magical!

Review 59:The room was sparse and really small. Felt like a dorm room. Way too expensive. No lobby. Owner was not accommodating. Received bad information from the owner about a voucher they gave us that didn't work and ended up costing us $60.

Review 60:The view but every hotel in this small town has a nice view.

Review 61:Small shower, but typical of most European hotels we have stayed at.

Review 62:Location, friendly and helpful staff and service. Beautiful views from our room of the Eiger.

Review 79:Tremendous staff and the view from the room was amazing

Review 80:Bathroom does not have doors

Review 81:Really close to the cable car station. View from restaurant was wonderful.

Review 82:Breath-taking location, very cute, homey, friendly, yummie breakfast, mountains all around, next to the ski lifts.

Review 83:Lauterbrunnen location ... use of swiss Pass ... better access to outside world than Wengen and Murren

Review 84:staff assistance

Review 85:We enjoyed the breakfast buffet. Asparagus soup in Alpenruh restaurant is a must try. Location is perfect if you enjoy nature hikes.

Review 95:The room with a view of the snow mountain and comfortable beds is good. The Personal is nice and the breakfast is good

Review 104:Nice view from room with a balcony overlooking the snow mountain! The best breakfast that I have eaten in my 10 days trip in Switzerland.

Review 105:none

Review 106:everything

Review 107:The hotel has a sauna available for use by the guests; tried to use it, but there was nobody there to turn it on for me. It would be good for the hotel to hire a few extra staff to attend to things like that.

Review 108:Nice, clean rooms and friendly staff. Excellent location in the town, very close to the cable car station. Excellent breakfast buffet and a restaurant that serves good indigenous fare.

Review 109:Not much open in town, tourist season doesn't really begin until June and we were a bit early.

Review 113:The location is good because of the close to the cable and nice view. Food and wine selection was also good, and I like the family atmosphere. Thanks, Teri

Review 114:Wi-fi was spotty.

Review 115:Stand on the terrace and see the Eiger to the far left and a panorama of the Alps so close it seems like you could touch them, that's the magic of Hotel Alpenruh. It's near tram to Shilthorn. The staff is amazingly accommodating, from check-in to check-out. Highly recommend this place. It is a long walk from the train from Gatschalp, but it is worth it.

Review 116:I liked everything. The location was perfect, the room (and view) superb, and the staff were the friendliest I'd met in a long while. Absolutely no complaints.
