Reviews for Hôtel Windsor
Review 1:The area of the hotel is in a somewhat seedy district. Coffee machine available with no coffee :(
Review 2:Very modern and stylish hotel 2 minutes away from the Central Station. Good for a short stay since it is close to the station, but far from where all the action is.
Review 3:In a bit of a strange area, could be quite noisy at night.
Review 4:Very friendly staff, very accomodating. Great facilities, fitness centre was great to have. Breakfast simple but delicious.
Review 5:Very close to the train station, 3 minutes on foot. Staff was friendly and helpful, updated to a superior room for free. They also turned on the heating by request. Breakfast was delicious.
Review 6:Noise coming from the streets at night. Usually internet is good, but during last visit it was not as stable.
Review 7:I am a regular visitor to Windsor Hotel and consider it to be value for money. Easy access to the centre shopping area, train station and conference area (UNCTAD). Walking distance to the seaside. The egiptian born male receptionist and the other who takes care of the breakfast area are excellent staff.
Review 8:Annoying guy at reception. Pokey room. Shabby interior (severely peeling wallpaper, curtain off hook). Maids not replenishing toiletries. Tepid coffee every morning at breakfast.
Review 9:It was clean.
Review 10:The hotel is on the outskirts of the red light district(a real eye opener),coffee making facilities didn't work, hotel bar not very welcoming ,almost seemed like we were intruding in someones living room.
Review 11:Centrally located, very comfortable bed, good size room and good value for money on the offer we got through booking.com
Review 12:The room was very small, bathroom was also small; not much space to hang clothing, no space to sit while watching TV besides the bed.
Review 13:Breakfast was quite OK, better than I expected.
Review 14:It was kind of in a bad area. But it was still centrally located.
Review 15:I liked that they gave me a transport pass and that they had a gym. Everything was pretty clean and the staff was friendly.
Review 16:The coffee machine in the room didnt work
Review 17:Good location, nice modern room. The breakfast was great and they even cater for gluten free if you let them know in advance
Review 18:The room we were initially allocated was dirty and as you walked in smelt damp. There was blood on the duvet, mould and damp on walls, bad paint jobs, dirty shower curtain that was pulled off the rail. We were upgraded for free to a Superior room. Again the staff were great about the situation and explained cleaners were outsourced and they apologised. The superior room was better. Clean. Bigger. Did not smell. However it was of a basic standard and what I would expect of a standard room.
Review 19:The staff were incredibly polite, patient and understanding.
Review 20:It actually didn't bother us at all, but the hotel is in the red light district. The staff drew our attention to the fact and warned us to be careful at night. We were only there one night but didn't have any issues or feel threatened. Something we found strange - a Nespresso machine in the room but no pods, or even cups. Probably an oversight.
Review 21:The staff were wonderful. The room was a good size, quiet and very clean. The wifi was reliable and fast. The breakfast was light but, for us, perfect. The bed was comfortable but maybe a little hard for our liking (but that is subjective). Location was quite convenient and the price was very reasonable for Geneva.
Review 22:Not very clean, room exceedingly small, no place to sit or write, just a corridor and a bed. For the price is not really what one should expect.
Review 23:Friendly staff and good location
Review 24:The room looked a bit shabby, the bathroom was very small and the view was onto the construction site. However, everything was very clean.
Review 25:The location is very good, just 5 min walk from the main station and 10 min walk to the old town. Good connection with other parts of the town.
Review 26:nothing..
Review 27:Close to Cornavin train station... Acess to tram and buses besides that train station.. Staff are friendly and kind name Thomas and Inga-the beautiful Russian lady. 3 minutes to Quai du Mont Blanc or Geneva lake where you can have a different boat trips and ride in mini Train and sightseeing bus..They are close all together... I like our room, clean and comfortable with private shower and toilet with Wifi...Breakfast is excellent like ham salami and everything you want as continental...
Review 28:On a negative side: 1. The hotel is located in a dirty part of the city. Not a big problem, though, if you don't intend to spend the whole day in hotel.
Review 29:On a positive side: 1. Friendly and helpfull staff 2. No expensive compared to other hotels in Geneva 3. Close to main station, car rentals, pier, places of interest etc.
Review 30:Ac wasn't working in our room which meant keeping window open. Lots of noise from Street below.
Review 31:Location - close to main station and Lake. Free Wifi. Helpful staff. Very comfortable beds.
Review 32:The AC did not work for the whole time, while Geneva became very hot during my stay. I know Geneva is not supposed to be that hot, but when the hotel charges me for a room with AC, the AC should be working!
Review 33:Free Wifi, Breakfast included in the room rate, very good price
Review 34:The swedish receptionist was very helpful and showed lots of passion for his work and the guests, my highly recommentions! The modern street art was amesing!!
Review 35:The walls were so thin, I could hear the person in the adjoining room snoring, in the other Adjoining room, hear their TV as though it was in my room. Consequently hardly slept.
Review 36:The quarter is extremely noisy even during the night. There is not mini-bar in the room.
Review 37:Good location - 5 minutes from the railway station in the direction of the lake.
Review 38:Tiny elevator, barely could fit. AC wasn't working, bathroom was dirty, mold in refrigerator, coffee pot, humidity fan. Small room.
Review 39:Staff, they tried to do their best to help out with our accommodations.
Review 40:- Air conditioning did not work in my room & no other room was available - it was over 38 degrees that day in Geneva. The guy at reception was very pleasant but told me his manager was not answering his phone calls. - Dodgy street full of kebab shops. - Orange juice at breakfast was disgusting. - Room was overpriced
Review 41:- Very close to train station - Funky decor in the lobby - Free travel pass
Review 42:A/C was too weak. Elevator was too small. Bed was too hard. Electrical outlets (near refrigerator) were falling apart and dangerous. No cups for the coffee/tea in the room and when I asked for it at the bar I was refused. Some bar staff were rude. Could not go out alone at night because of the sketchy area surrounding the hotel.
Review 43:Receptionist was responsive for my needs for changing the room (A/C was not working in the first room). Price was good because Geneva's hotels are expensive.
Review 44:Location in the middle of the red light district, we didn't feel comfortable walking through it during the day or night. Rooms were very dirty, the shower walls still had hair on them from the previous visitors. Walls had paint chipped away and mould-like stains. Very small rooms with no working airco! Advertised as "design hotel", but the few paintings in the lobby and a picture of a tree in the room don't make it so.
Review 45:Personnel at check-in was very friendly (a young man with perfect English), at check-out not so much (2 grumpy old men).
Review 46:- Room noise isolation (although it was just fine) - Wifi could be improved (pick hours but again if you are on vacation it is just fine)
Review 47:- Staff (very kind) - Hotel conditions (clean) - Big room and good double bed - Location to the lake (perfect) - Sauna and Gym (as in a 5 star hotel!!) - Breakfast (simple but good)
Review 48:I reported the lack of air conditioning to two different receptionists but nothing was done, so it was uncomfortably hot. The décor and furniture are minimalist to a degree which I found depressing.
Review 49:Convenient for the station, shops and restaurants. No street noise.
Review 50:The smallest toillete I ever had (but very clean) The wifi was not really good The area is not the safest at night, the waiter friendly warned me when I checked in.
Review 51:Good location near the train station Cleanliness absolutely perfect Very friendly staff Breakfast not the best but very good For a expensive city like Geneva, good value for the money
Review 52:Hotel is near Red Light district of Geneva. It does not look dangerous anyway (for a man at least) but not everyone like such neighborhood and people. Good thing is that hotel has two entrances (see Like section), the one to Rue de Neuchatel allows to avoid red light district.
Review 53:Good value for money. Good location, near waterfront and train station. Sauna and fitness center for free. Two hotel entrances
Review 54:Property situated between a party street and a quiet street. Ask for a quiet room if that's important to you.
Review 55:One of the last three family-owned hotels in a perfect central location with great Wi-Fi in rooms as well as lobby. Excellent value!
Review 56:Not the best area, but that wasn't really a problem for me. As always in a city, the noise is always with you, and the guy in the next room snored loudly - all night ,
Review 57:Close to Cornavin station, many restaurants and bars, and walkable to Lake Geneva. Clean, welcoming staff, and, for me, exactly the sort of breakfast I like.
Review 58:- the location is central, but I personally would prefer something more quiet, and actually at night the area did not look very safe - price for the room was high, but this is Geneva
Review 59:- clean and renovated hotel, comfortable bed - very friendly staff - close to the train station and to the lake
Review 60:Situated in an "animated" street when coming at night...i din't care but some people might.
Review 61:Confortable bed, close to train station, renovated
Review 62:Bed frame broken Peeling paint Smelly room Could have been cleaner
Review 63:Buzzing neighbourhood with fab restaurants and bars but beware this is also the street in Geneva where you will find prostitutes
Review 64:- Really small elevator (max two people without baggage) - a bit pricy, but hey, it's Geneva - heavy dust in the room, mostly on the ceiling's corners - Tiny bathroom - No parking
Review 65:- Free breakfast - Sauna and fitness - Location (even though it's in the Paquis area, where the action takes place - prostitutiona dn drugs dealing, so it depends on how tolerable you are) - renovated in 2010 - The guy at the reception (usually taked the night shift)
Review 66:My room was VERY small even by Geneva's standards. Breakfast is poor. Sometimes there is a lot of noise coming from the street or corridor (and that could be a problem at night). WiFi connection was far from perfect. Resume: place is OK if you stay for 1-3 nights, no more.
Review 67:Location is good since the hotel located close to the Cornavin station (and yes, it is a 'red light' district, but don't see such a problem here. My room was clean and bed was OK.
Review 68:Horribly expensive for what it is. The rooms are small and you can hear the neighbours snoring. Very loud street at night (in the middle of the red light district), the mattress needs changing, the TV is extremely small, no coffee/tea making facilities, no small fridge. No the standard I would have expected from this level of hotel. The design looks cheap and used. Reception guy checked me out while in a private phone conversation with one of his friends and briefly explained things in between sentences to his friends. That's not what I call customer focus. I'll try something else next time I come not this one.
Review 69:Free wifi
Review 70:Very friendly and helpful staff who went out of their way to contact me after I left my necklace behind. Convenient location if travelling from airport and arriving to main station. Nice breakfast.
Review 71:The hotel might aswell be a brothel all night I was kept awake with people in and out, the walls are like paper and the staff have no problems letting prostitutes into the building! I assume it has good reviews because people go here to get drunk and easily sleep but for business it's not the place to go!
Review 72:Nothing
Review 73:People on the same floor/above were very noisy and I could hear everything they were saying. Breakfast was very basic.
Review 74:Room was very clean, great location, staff are extremely helpful.
Review 75:Nothing in particular. The value price relation is a Geneva issue and not specific to the Windsor...
Review 76:I like staying in the Paquis area of town. Its mixture of red light and bohemian bars, places and folks is interesting and the location is perfect. The Windsor has gone through a stylish renovation and I like it. This time, my room was a double bed, they have amaller rooms... Wifi connection is working well.
Review 77:Bathroom was very small and not very clean. Especially the bathroom door was dirty and also found blood splatter on it.
Review 78:Location is ok, not far from main station
Review 79:- In red light district - Shower, you have to keep it with one hand a dirty showercurtain. - Sink was broken. - On departure I had to take the back exit, because of ïncidents in the front"(on suggestion of the receptionist). - Room dusty, not a trace that it was cleaned, except for the bedlinnen.
Review 80:Staff is friendly Location is central.
Review 81:It was impossible to comfortably use the bathroom, so small it was. The distance between toilet and the opposite wall was so small you had to sit "diagonally". Also I did not like the noise from heating/AC - very loud. The hairdryer had the ON/OFF button missing but was replaced.
Review 82:great location, clean room, quiet room also. staff EXCELLENT. he gave me great advices about what to do in geneva, also many many other things we talk about.Great person, i'm happy I had the chance to meet this sir. I will definitely stay there again if i go again to geneva.
Review 83:Housekeeping not the best Bathroom lacks shelf and decent extractor fan
Review 84:Location to station, breakfast and coffee good Nespresso machine nice touch in room unfortunately didn't replace coffee pods so becomes a dust collector in a room with little free space
Review 85:The room was very tight especially the bathroom and shower area. It was acceptable for me at time as I was travelling alone but something to consider if you are a couple.
Review 86:The receptionist was a very nice person. He provided me with an umbrella during a rainy day, easily accepted me to check out one night earlier and even let me to use the hotel's phone to contact booking.com for the cancelation.
Review 87:Poor breakfast; The bedroom I stayed looked like a motel (the only thing missing was a catalog); Very tiny lift.
Review 88:Good location (very near to the gare station, if you don't care being close to a cabaret);
Review 89:The room window was double glazed, which was just as well since our room faced on to Rue de Berne and there was some noise from time to time during the night, though generally not too bad – we had asked for a quiet room and were given the highest floor possible for the price. The receptionist told us the hotel could be noisy from guests at the weekend. The main problem with Geneva is the cost of eating. A simple main course (eg burger/pizza/pasta) and a drink is going to cost £20 per person. Two nice places near the hotel are Diner American Dream across the road from the back entrance, which has a good atmosphere, and the more traditional Au Petit Chalet, which is a brief walk along Rue de Berne.
Review 90:The hotel is about 5 minutes’ walk from the station and a few minutes to Lake Geneva and the public transport boats (mouettes - seagulls). If arriving by air, you can get a free ticket for the 8 minute train journey from a machine in the baggage reclaim area. When you check in you will get free transport tickets for the whole of your stay! The hotel has two entrances, of which the nearest to the station is on Rue de Neuchatel, which is a reasonably nice street with restaurants and shops. The other (main) entrance is on Rue de Berne, which is one edge of the red light district. The hotel consists of 2 towers, one on each street, with reception in the middle. The gentleman on reception was very nice and made quite some effort to explain to us various aspects of Geneva with the help of a map. There are two lifts which are efficient but tiny – just room for two people and hand luggage! Apart from a bit of superficial damage to the paintwork, the room was very nice and the bed was huge and firm but comfortable. The bathroom had a shower (plenty of hot water in a morning) and a hairdryer and was just big enough. There was a smallish TV with no English channels. There was a safe, but no kettle or fridge (I believe they are available in the more expensive rooms). There was free Wi-Fi in the room of variable speed. There is air conditioning, but it was set to heat for the winter and the room was quite warm enough. Breakfast was fine. The cold buffet consisted of juices, cereals, yogurts, croissants, meats, cheeses, tea/coffee and hard boiled eggs on request. The quality was quite good. The hotel is well placed for sightseeing, with a lot of bus/tram lines going past the station.
Review 91:The hotel is a budget option near the train station, in the "shady" part of Geneva. Not suitable for travelers with children, probably. Very nice reception area but the cheapest rooms are very basic and dreary.
Review 92:Best price at that moment in Geneva, except for hostels. Nothing really to complain about, friendly and efficient staff.
Review 93:Non-smoking room smelling the cigarette... Not the hotel's fault and maybe not easy to make the smell go out...
Review 94:Less than 5 minutes from train station, decent included breakfast, cosy room, not far from the lake, and a price surprisingly low.
Review 95:Breakfast is poor. Not enough choices. Internet was off for more than 5 days due to technical problem. Rooms on rue de Berne are so noisy ! We couldn't sleep the whole night. The staff changed our room for the second night.
Review 96:Staff was nice. They were helpful.
Review 97:The first day I arrived, internet was not working and they said it won't work till next week,so during my whole stay I didn't have internet!! The reception told me to go to a bar near the hotel where I couldn't do my works late at night there, besides their internet was not working too! My travel was business and that made lots of problems for me. Besides, when I reserved in Booking.com the price was 172 Swiss franc and 164 euro, but they charged me 190 francs in the hotel! Breakfast was not worth it too. just something very small that because I had to go early to other places to find internet, I preferred to eat on those places.
Review 98:The location was really good, it was in the red avenue part but I think it's less now as I didn't have any problems. The room as for one person was not so small and it was comfortable. Rooms were clean.
Review 99:Walls very thin could hear people talking all night. No lock on bedroom door. WiFi wasn't working. Smallest elevator I've ever seen. Paint peeling off walls. Non smoking room stunk of cigarettes.
Review 100:Hotel was very near station. Not in best area overall but for the money you can't complain on location.
Review 101:it will be expensive if you get the normal price, so always wait for the offers, it may get less than half the normal price :)
Review 102:we tried many hotels in the central Geneva and this one beats all! I must say it is value for money only becaus we good a great offer via booking.com (one night for 110 Swiss Franks, where the normal price is 250 for double room. so I recommend it if you get a great price like this to go for it! great decor, great room, great reception ..etc, it even offers the sauna room for free !
Review 103:The room is gloomy and really cold. There is only air conditioner in the room and doesn't make the room warm. On television there are only French channels.you have few options at the breakfast buffet. You don't feel safe around the neighbourhood.
Review 104:The hotel is a stone's throw away from the main train station and five minutes walk away from Lake Geneva. You can also go to center by walk. Double sıze bed is comfortable.
Review 105:-it's a little noisy outside at night -no kettle in the room
Review 106:-the staffs are kind, especially the one who did the night-shifts -the location is close to train station and the lake. There are many restaurant around
Review 107:small room, not that good bed condition, old furniture
Review 108:Value for money, descent breakfast, (++)location, helpful staff, being in red dinstrict not a problem
Review 109:There were druggies hanging around near the entrance to the hotel. The room was very small with depressing (grey, black and purple) decor.
Review 110:The staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the town. The hotel is conveniently located for transportation.
Review 111:Located Red light district and drug pusher roaming around the hotel......use 2nd entrance to avoid them!
Review 112:Good hotel, almost close to Train/Trum/Bus Station, Good Breakfast, WiFi works superb, lots of restaurant just adjacent to the hotel.
Review 113:The breakfast wasn't that good, the street where the hotel is located is a bit intimidating specially at nite time.
Review 114:Good wifi reception, near the train station, lake Geneva and free travel card:-)
Review 115:no complaints at all
Review 116:we spent only one night, but could stay longer. The hotel was exactly what we needed. The location next to the train station allowed not to take taxi from the airport. Staff was absolutely great! Very, very helpful and frienly. The room was clean and really none smoked. The hotel is 15 minutes walk to historical part of the city. Breakfast was faily good. I would recommend this hotel to everyone
Review 117:For the price, not much I disliked about this hotel. I wouldn't suggest families stay here, it's located in the middle of the red light district. A decent amount of noise can be heard from the streets throughout the evening too.
Review 118:Good breakfast, close to main train station and tourist attractions. Staff were helpful when needed. Room provides basic needs, comfy bed. Good value for money!
Review 119:Not enough light in the bedroom. The area where you can feel a bit unsafe at night.
Review 120:The staff was very welcoming and helpful. Well situated if you need to take the train every day. The fitness center and the sauna are well equipped and clean. My bedroom was very comfortable and the breakfast is simple but really good.
Review 121:The street it's located on made me feel uncomfortable because it's full of people loitering. Shower curtain - terrible. Naked man in the sauna - there should be a sign that if you are nude you take a towel because I dont want to sit where some naked mans bum has been
Review 122:The location was good, close to the train station and close enough to the old town. Just a hop, skip and a jump to the Lake. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Good breakfast. Nice decor.
Review 123:1. Friendly and helpful staff. 2. Large room 3. Excellent heating system 4. Comfortable bed 5. Easy wifi access 6. Copious breakfast 7. Cool bar scene 8. Fun reception decor 9. Utmost cleanliness
Review 124:Wifi dropped out on occasion but overall was OK. Reviews say the hotel is in red light district, but we experienced no problems as staff advised us to use the alternate entrance to avoid this, which worked out well. Noise was not as bad as made out in other reviews
Review 125:Good central location close to transport and facilities; breakfast was excellent, good selection and gave all that was needed to start the day We enjoyed our stay here and would use this hotel again
Review 126:Red light district! Try (Beeing a male) no to be courted by a prostitute each time you leave te Hotel!
Review 127:Good staff, breakfast included, great bed and linens, free internet, clone to gare ano city center
Review 128:The 2 blocks of the street outside the hotel are a little sketchy with a lot of young men hanging about in doorways - nothing too terribly sinister though so not really a problem. The lift is very small so might require a couple of trips if you have a lot of luggage - but at least they have it!
Review 129:This is a nice hotel - breakfast was decent, they have a good exercise room, staff were great, room was clean, loved the complimentary transit passes for streetcars are lake ferries! The location is great as it is handy to the station and an easy walk to the lake and historic area. The street itself is a little sketchy but not too bad. There is an amazing Lebanese restaurant just down the road and across the street "Parfum de Beirut" so make sure you go there!
Review 130:Noise was overwhelming in the Berne rue side of hotel where my room was. Much better to ask for Neufchâtel side rooms. Hotel has a bar which has extremely loud music on weekends. Should be noise proof room but it is not. Also paper thin walls in rooms don't help
Review 131:Staff and price
Review 132:Room very basic. How can a bed and a chair be worth three stars? Seems more interested in the semblance of style rather than anything of substance.
Review 133:Friendly welcome, convenient for station and lake if you don't mind pushing your way past the prostitutes.
Review 134:Uncomfortable mattress Narrow Wall, everything was heard from the next room
Review 135:Great location Sauna and fitness Modern hotel Bigger bed then on the pics Breakfast
Review 136:Central for shops, station and the Lake. Arrived at 9am to drop off bags and they gave us our room It is in the red light district but this was not as bad as some reviews made out.
Review 137:Really rough neighborhood. Not at all suitable for people travelling alone or families. The room smelled like someone had smoked there for weeks. Was not able to change room. Advice from staff: open the window, though I did not want to do it, due to the location of the hotel.
Review 138:The room was not very cosy, no carpet on the floor, no glass, no tea/coffee making facilities. There were strong neon lights in the street that even the curtains could not block so could not sleep well. The bathroom was very small.
Review 139:The room was big enough. Location from UNO was only 4 tram stops. Breakfast was sufficient.
Review 140:The specific area (street) in Geneva isn't the best but the hotel was fine and better than the area itself.
Review 141:The location was very convenient for the main station and the lakeside. Perfect for my visit. The hotel was quiet and modern and well-staffed. Good breakfast too and free WiFi.
