Reviews for Chalet RoyAlp Hôtel & Spa

Review 1:It's a shame for a 5 star hotel to have this menu in the bar. If you don't want to spend €150 per person in their restaurant, you are offered a menu in the bar with an extremely poor and expensive choice of food. A burger for €38, a green salad for €16 and few more positions. No bar drinks menu was offered even once. I would not come here with kids.

Review 2:Clean rooms, very nice breakfast, friendly staff

Review 3:There was a wedding on the first night. The loud music went on until 3.30am. We had paid for an expensive suite and had to move to an apartment in the middle of the night, carrying all of our things. There was no offer of any refund or anything else to compensate for our experience. We feel that for a 5 star hotel having loud music late into the night is unacceptable.

Review 4:The staff were kind and put us at ease very quickly (we aren't familiar with such high degree of luxury and quality of service). The hotel is beautiful, clean, perfect finishings and the room service is simply the best.

Review 5:Restaurants very very very expensive. Would be nice with a bar menu with "European" prices. Pool and jacuzzi way too cold!

Review 6:Spa is nice to have especially when it's raining and you are traveling with children. (Pool and jacuzzi should be looked at though , temperature is way too cold!) Staff very nice and attentive.

Review 7:Our only criticism of the hotel was that the 2 coffee pods per day for our in-room coffee maker were not replaced on 3 out of the 7 days we stayed. It was frustrating returning from a day out to find a coffee machine with no coffee - and the hotel provided no milk (not even long life pods or powdered milk in sachets). The hotel offered additional coffee pods for 4CHF each! The hotel is situated a few hundred metres above the centre of Villars and there is a small mountain railway stop (Roche Grise) adjacent to the hotel. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to and from the village but frustratingly this can not be pre-booked even when departing the hotel to catch a train/plane with luggage, although it was always available when we needed it. During the winter season, if you are not a skier there is not a great deal to do in Villars. The scenery is stunning but we found hardly any walks and these were not properly marked. The available walking maps were not very accurate or useful.

Review 8:Chalet RoyAlp Hotel & Spa is a beautifully constructed and well appointed hotel which is generally well run and managed. The rooms are certainly very comfortable with all amenities. As frequent visitors to the Swiss Alps, I can say that this was probably the most spacious and best appointed room we have stayed in. The inclusive and very extensive buffet breakfast boasted every possible food preference. The hotel director (Philippe) was often present at breakfast, greeting guests. The two à la carte restaurants (one offering gourmet food and the other with Swiss specialities including fondu) offered a good selection and the standard of cuisine was very high. However, if you are on holiday with children, the food was quite fancy and pretty expensive. It was a shame that they did not offer a fixed price daily menu which might have suited families staying for a few days. Visiting other local restaurants in Villars almost seemed to be encouraged and the hotel Concierge was very helpful in booking these. The hotel spa facilities and pool are excellent although my wife and I found the pool temperature rather chilly and the treatments offered by the spa were quite pricey. Most days the spa and pool were not open until 9:30am.

Review 9:Ski back to the hotel has a 200 m or so flat / slight incline section (can however always take the mountain railway back).

Review 10:Great mountain resort hotel, ideal for skiing and most likely very lovely in summer too. Rooms very comfortable. Particularly liked breakfast in restaurant, pool and spa, hotel shuttle service (any place / any time within the village of Villars), link to slopes by mountain railway (stop just outside hotel), reception, hotel arranged ski hire drop off service.

Review 11:The service for drinks at the bar was very long, the service for lunch was a catastrophy, dirty restaurant, swimming pool cold. Quite disappointing for the price!

Review 12:The location, the spa and the carnozet restaurant!

Review 13:NOTHING!!!

Review 14:Rooms were immaculate. Outdoor balcony had Table and chairs & ashtray for smoking guests. Booked Jr. Suite Plenty of space in room. two large tv screens for viewing 1 in living room area, 1 in bedroom area. slept three comfortably. I was thrilled to find a Pet Bed with Food and water bowls for our family Yorkshire Terrier! Bar Lounge & Restaurant service was excellent Food was superb! Priced reasonably & well portioned. Spa & Sport Gym well serviced & equipped Pool & Jacuzzi a plus! Excellent Hotel

Review 15:Amazing staff!

Review 16:- housekeeping was rude

Review 17:Housekeeping should be instructed to observe the courtesy and the privacy of the guests

Review 18:The manager

Review 19:limited menu in the restaurant

Review 20:The inside of the hotel is cosy and warm due to the chalet style finishing.Very clean

Review 21:great attention to detail and fantastic service

Review 22:Excellent service and facilities, nothing too much trouble. Great location

Review 23:Better televisions in the rooms they didn t work very well...

Review 24:Everything

Review 25:New Year's Eve service was very weak

Review 26:atmosphere

Review 27:pool and spa facilities excellent breakfast spread friendly staff access card for free train and bus and the one gondola lift working nearby

Review 28:It was quiet time. It made us more relax.

Review 29:Location

Review 30:Excellent staff

Review 31:Spa facilities prices are too much higher then 2 years ago

Review 32:Size of room, Cleanless, Huge bathroom with all facilities

Review 33:Front office service

Review 34:Food Room Bathroom Facilities

Review 35:no dislikes.

Review 36:room

Review 37:Way too overpriced, particularly when ski season was over three weeks ago. I think they have more staff than guests.

Review 38:Fresh air and spectacular views. Excellent breakfast. Dinner was very good as well.

Review 39:wifi although i subscribed for the optional paying supplement was not available in the room nor in the bar where they told me the signal would be better. My guess they had not enough broadband to accommodate all customers . They took it off the bill after i complained though. The TV set in the room did not work, could not turn the sound on! Breakfast was not up to a Luxury hotel level, no more scrambled eggs when i went [and i assume this was powder, not real eggs..] and pastries [raisin rolls] were dry, i would assume from the day before. Finally when i arrive in the evening at 7:30 all restaurants in the hotel were fully booked, leaving room service as only option. so a lot of irritating issues for a top hotel . Way below Relais Chateaux in Verbier [le chalet d'Adrien] where i was the week before.

Review 40:nice large room quiet hotel nice location

Review 41:The pool at the spa was cold which was a shame because I so wanted to swim. A bit expensive, however.

Review 42:Excellent Service. Beautiful location. Clean and very well kept because it is new. Fantastic breakfast. Very attractive and pleasant Spa

Review 43:For somebody who booked 6 monthss in advance for 14 nights,I expected a better room with possibly an upgrade. In my booking I requested a quiet room away from any elevators(guests or service) yet my room was adjacent to the elevator.I had to leave two nites earlier and I was charged fully for one nite.

Review 44:The Spa,the bar and Restaurant, the breakfast, most of the staff. Elise(front office manager),Remy,Val,Ludovic,Tom,Rosanda,Madeline, jules were very nice and helpful.

Review 45:The smell of wood in the room - need ventelation and would be great to have it air conditioned

Review 46:The staff, The children room, the hotel decore and cleanliness.

Review 47:The waiter in the restaurant who was so slow and not attentive to the orders. In the end they wanted us to pay more than we had to.

Review 48:The view from the room, assistance of ladies at the reception in organizing my back trip to Geneve.

Review 49:nothing

Review 50:WOW!,the best hotel I ever been.Anything is excellent. Expensive but worth any penny. Each detail in this hotel is perfect and splendid. don't miss !!!.

Review 51:The weather - but I can't blame the hotel for that!

Review 52:The staff were absolutely fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble. Food also very good. We had spa treatments which were also first class, and as a therapist myself I'm pretty hard to please!

Review 53:Every time we stay we have a problem and this time was no exception. We were told room cleared and coats and bags in car waiting outside. On return home an hour later - no bags. Had to drive all the way back to collect. Spa pool too cold and noisy children ruin relaxing atmosphere

Review 54:Lovely hotel with charming staff.

Review 55:Nothing! I'm a very demanding guest and I couldn't find anything wrong with this place!

Review 56:EVERYTHING! This is my second stay in this hotel and it's amazing! You get a real 5* service and I totally recommend it! It makes it really difficult to stay anywhere else in Villars.

Review 57:The rooms could be a little colder (you cannot control the roomtemperature) and finally, this is an expensive hotel, not so much on theroom rate but mainly on the food and beverages, but don't forgetthat you are in Switzerland

Review 58:If you want to ski in Villars Gryon, this is the Hotel to stay. Firstly, the location; the Royalp is located 3 minute drive from the town centerand right in front of the train that will take you to the slopes. If youprefer you can always ask for a complimentary shuttle between the hoteland any place in Villars. The rooms are very generous in terms of spaceand very very confortable. There is a lot to do in this hotel, thelovely spa where you can relax after a ski day, 3 restaurants where youcan eat (all of them very good), as excellent bar with top-notchcocktails, a billiard room, a cinema room, a games room and severallounge rooms. The service was always excellent and sympathetic.

Review 59:For the price we paid the staff could have been friendlier. And there was a suspicious hair lingering around the bath tub tap. All in all I expected more and the coffee was pretty awful. Shame because it looks like s pretty resort.

Review 60:absence of a balcony and access from slopes ie had to go through garage at the end of the day and black ice on road

Review 61:restaurants were good and efficient service for car

Review 62:Excellent serviceminded staff. Lovely athmosphere. Large junior suite.Prompt roomservice. Spa and pool first class. Met and exceeded expectations. Expensive but value for money.

Review 63:Apart from the price of the hotel, food and drinks (expensive, but you get what you pay for...), the only minor dislikes were that the pool was a little cold and the steam room and sauna not hot enough.

Review 64:From drivers to concierge, reception, restaurant and spa staff, the service was friendly and truly excellent. The location was also great, with a shuttle service to town on request and the mountain train station less than 100m away. Walking from the hotel was also a real pleasure.

Review 65:Excellent service and amentities. Magnificent decor and staff that really takes care of their guests. Will not be able to stay anywhere else in Villars!

Review 66:I payed in Euro's and was amazed that I got the change in Swiss Franks. When we arrived, nobody came outside to help us with the luggage and until later we heard there was the possibility of valid parking, nice after a 10 hours drive. And to pay extra for parking on the huge parking lot when you are an expensive hotel like this, is a little overdone. But thats all, my brother and me had a lovely stay:)

Review 67:I liked the atmosphere, service, design and spacious rooms with view and modern designed bathroom. Pool with wonderful view and at breakfast a lovely friendly waiter Ron?Born in Canada, with a french mother and he could speak his languages fluently, even a little Dutch!

Review 68:perhaps the swimmimg pool at the SPA sould be heated up more...

Review 69:Excellent weclome and very good customer relationship management (have been there 4 times already)- service is consistently very good. Decoration and quality of facilities is great.

Review 70:The food at the restaurant (dinner) is too limited. Charged for theparking. Wish the reception are more informative.

Review 71:Cosy hotel with spacious room.We were offered to an upgraded room. A beautifully designed hotel that you feel comfortable as home, and even better. Many comfy sofas and romantic quite corners.

Review 72:the rooms are far too hot like a sauna and also the lack of choice on the menus and the 3star hotel food very poor!

Review 73:the free shuttle bus was handy and also the views delightful.

Review 74:Everything about the hotel was superb. Staff were polite and friendly, the room luxurious and clean. The attention to detail was top class. The spa facilities are excellent. A fantastic stay and would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Review 75:the rooms are to hot and u cant turn down the heating as its central controlled whicj made it uncomfortable to sleep, the food is very expensive and very average for a leading hotel of the world its for sure the worst i have stayed at!

Review 76:the views are amazing nice bathrooms

Review 77:It would be great to have child-free times for the spa for people who come to relax. The pool and jacuzzi temperatures could have been a bit warmer.

Review 78:Cozy, refined ambiance, beautiful spa area, and great views from the rooms. We had a delicious meal in the brasserie/restaurant, and I was provided with gluten-free options which were much appreciated.

Review 79:Prices of the drinks in the bar are too high

Review 80:Reception: . The reception was prepared of the arrival and the check-inwas handled in a couple of minutes. After the checkin the receptionistgave us a round tour of the hotel explaining the various lounges, restaurants, spa and other facilities. The Room: The room was on the 6floor with a terrace, many cupboards for organizing the cloth, the shower, bathroom and toilet were each in separate rooms. Restaurants We visited twice the Grizzly Brasserie because the food is fantastic!. There is also a cigar lounge The breakfast buffet offer a choice of continental and English breakfast, the quality of the food was exceptinal. The Staff The staff is professional and friendly My ratings (score out of 10) Reception: 10 The Rooms: 10 Facilities: 10 Restaurants: 10 The Staff: 10 Summary: Definitely recommend the RoyAlp because of the Very high Quality. Prices are correct for Swiss standard.

Review 81:Breakfast was average. The first night since we arrived around 10pm it was too late for the restaurant so we had food at the bear bar. To be honest the club sandwich was as bad as those from the supermarket or the highway. And the mayonnaise was already open & used by someone else so we had to ask a new one...Very disappointing. Second night since we didn't book for the restaurant we went to the bar again and the beef tartart was not fantastic. Also the salad we had was very salty. In general the food from bear bar is more like what you have from the highway.. ofcourse with a price of 5 star hotel.

Review 82:The spa area is really perfect. And the open hour is also quite long (7-21). Most of the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Review 83:Our room was small; there was enough cupboard space for a family of 10,the bathroom and bathtub were huge, but the room itself was small incomparison. The room also seemed airless, and had a curious odour(perhaps from the wood - but the odour was curious, not "wood-like").View was of the entrance, but I guess you get whatt you pay for...

Review 84:Beautiful complex, tastefully furnished. Staff professional

Review 85:Once again the temperature of the swimming pool is far below comfort level. If you want to swim 100 lengths then its fine but to relax and gently swim, it is far too cold. Although there is one hairdryer, nowhere in the spa is there a socket where ladies can straighten/style their hair.

Review 86:Lovely hotel in a lovely area

Review 87:The food at the lounge is terripple . we are ordered a pizza and pennyfor the kids. The pizza was frozen pizze no taste and penny was notfresh and it was spicy although it was for kids.also we asked for an irone the hotel did not provide. tv channel selection was very limited .

Review 88:The style of teh hotel is very different , the location is great. Veryrelaxing atmospere

Review 89:The water in the pool was a bit too cool and unfortunately babies are not allowed in the pool area.

Review 90:Simply fantastic. Everything was perfect: excellent facilities, attentive and professional staff, great restaurants, beautiful rooms and great location.

Review 91:We stayed 2 nights, one day we had very bad weather but the hotel is so nice, we stayed at the pool, the sauna or the game room and the sofa-corners. The other day we went up hill , sunny day and the hotel is so close to the train that takes you up there. Fabulous stay!

Review 92:Absolutely flawless in every respect. Service was impeccable from start to finish, room was beautiful and surprisingly large, and hotel immaculately clean throughout. The spa was luxurious, and the fondue dinner and breakfast buffet was superb. The train to the ski slopes is a matter of minutes from the comfortable ski locker area. It certainly isn't cheap, but for once in Switzerland worth every penny.

Review 93:The only thing that bothered us was the coffee at the breakfast (which was otherwise excellent)! It tasted burnt and smelled bit funny and although we asked for another and different coffee, the taste was the same and not good. Normally I would not mention such a detail but againsts the overall background of excellence and luxury, it struck us as odd.

Review 94:Good location to go skiing (ski in-ski out), lovely views, very nice interior design, beautiful rooms, excellent service, attention to detail.

Review 95:Not much
